CSS - Altering Css On Mysql Generated Text
Hi everyone,
I have some text generated from my database as a menu and it automatically puts it in a list. I want it to go side by side so I can overlay it onto an image. My code that generates the text is: Code: <?php $sql = "SELECT * FROM cms_recent_news ORDER BY timestamp DESC LIMIT 5"; $result = mysql_query($sql) or print ("Can't select entries from table cms_recent_news.<br />" . $sql . "<br />" . mysql_error()); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { $date = date("l F d Y", $row['timestamp']); $title = stripslashes($row['title']); $entry = stripslashes($row['entry']); $id = $row['id']; if (strlen($entry) > 0) { $entry = substr($entry, 0, 0); $entry = "$entry<a href=\"journal_rn.php?id=" . $id . "\">$title</a>"; } ?> <?php echo $entry; ?><br /><br /> <?php } ?> Is there anyway for me to do this? Thanks in advance Similar TutorialsHello why wont this change the effects of my td Code: #tabs td.start { background:url("/pdp/images/style_images/default/section_on_left.gif") no-repeat left top; } #tabs td.start a { background:url("/pdp/images/style_images/default/section_on_right.gif") no-repeat right top; font-weight:bold; } #tabs td.start a:link { color:#fff; } #tabs td.start a:visited { color:#fff; } #tabs td.start a:hover { color:#64bfdb; text-decoration:underline; } #tabs td.start a:active { color:#64bfdb; } any help much appreciated Hi all.. i'm new to php... ive got a php genereated page that i need to display in a css generated font... i can kind of get it to work using the normal <class="font"> at the top of the page but it seems to ignore the pixel size. Am i doing it completely wrong? i need a *simple* solution if thats possible, and without too much jargon much appreciated.. adi I've inherited a page that uses CSS and Javascript to drag and drop objects. For reasons unknown, this feature has stopped working. My investigation has determine that there is a CSS error involved: Error in parsing value for 'left'. Declaration dropped. Error in parsing value for 'top'. Declaration dropped. Since this is an inherited page I am not sure what the problem really is but the only references to left and top a Code: floater = document.getElementById("floater"); . . . floater.style.left = fx; floater.style.top = fy; . . . fx = floater.style.left = active_card.x; fy = floater.style.top = active_card.y; I'm pretty sure it must be from one or both of these statements. I tried adding +"px" to each just in case but that didn't help (nor did I expect it to because it was working at some point in the past and no, I don't know what may have changed). Not being a CSS expert I need some help debugging this problem. FWIW, here is the "floater" HTML object: Code: <img id=floater src=../cards/large/bottom01.gif class=hidden style="position:absolute"> Any help pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to develope http://www.hotlinkforums.com/, but why does the doctype that is generated by the forums screwup my styles. When I take it out of my homepage it makes my stylesheet work correctly, but when I use it it doesn't. Does it matter if I don't use the doctype? Will that screw up search engine ranking or anything? Also what the heck is all of this in my homepage?: <html dir="ltr" lang="en"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache" /> <meta http-equiv="Expires" content="-1" /> <meta http-equiv="Cache-Control" content="no-cache" /> <title>HotLink Forums - powered by vBulletin</title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" /> <meta name="generator" content="vBulletin 3.0.0 Release Candidate 3" /> <meta name="keywords" content="vbulletin, forum, discussion, bulletin board, hotlink, hosting, linux,vb,domains, reseller, affordable, cheap" /> <meta name="description" content="Message Boards for HotLink Hosting" /> Does the direction and lagnuage statements in the html tag matter towards anythign important? What do all these weird meta tags such as pragma, expires, cache-control, generator do and do I need them there? Do the meta tags below the title need to be below the title because I know I can put them above it with the others. Also, why is there a blank white space at the top of the forums? And why does the background to my td at the bottom not work? I'm trying to get a dynamically populated logo to center in a div. I've found a solution which works in FF, IE7 and safari, but I've tried everything and I can get this to sit centered in IE6. The html looks like this: <div> <table width="100%" height="100%"> <tr> <td> <a href="/somelink/"> <img src="dynamicallyGeneratated.jpg"/> </a> </td> </tr> </table> </div> The URL is sportsmembership.com.au/boxhillhawksfc/ and the logo is in the top left corner The dtd is valid xhtml transitional, and IE6 is rendering in standards compliant mode. I've tried display block, and margin:0 auto on the image, and i've tried text-align center on the td, a and img tags, and I cannot get this to sit properly in ie6. The image vertically aligns correctly but always sits to the left of the div, no matter what text-alignment I give it. I can't find a way to center this with margins or padding because the image is dynamically called from a database, and can have different dimensions. Hi all, I have created a tree menu that is dynamically loaded from the directory structure on my web server. Because it takes a while to load, I was wondering if there is any way to cache the menu so that the browser doesn't have to load it again and again. My idea is to cache it twice a day maybe (to keep up to date as it is accessing the report). Does any one know a way of doing it? Regards, Sameer. Good Morning All, Been having a slight problem with the visual in the screenshot below. The blue line is our H2, and the purple one is our H3, however, as you can see, the underline spans the entire width of the column, not just underneith the text, which is our requirement. ***As i am not allowed to upload a url as a new user, the underline is as follows. With the text centre aligned. text ----------------------------------------------------------- rather than text ------ and obviously by the css, the underline on the headers is a small image, repeated - x. Please see relevant css information. * (line 23) { margin-top: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-left: 0pt; padding-top: 0pt; padding-right: 0pt; padding-bottom: 0pt; padding-left: 0pt; } h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 (line 101) { font-size: 1.2em; font-weight: normal; padding-bottom: 4px; margin-top: 0.6em; margin-right: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0.8em; margin-left: 0pt; text-align: center; } .contentArea h2, #secondaryNavigation h2 (line 114) { background-color: transparent; background-image: url("../images/h2_gradient_bg.gif"); background-repeat: repeat-x; background-attachment: scroll; background-position: left bottom; color: #0066cc; } Many Thanks in advance. Marc. I would like to pop up the text, that is, make it bigger when the user hovers on it. but the problem everytime the text gets bigger, the whole row moves and the surrounding texts gets displaced. any idea ? tutorial? let me know if i need to explain more. can someone help me with this? here is the page&css I have been working on... the page file the css file I might be silly to use a template that I did on illustrator (with all the banner, boxes and navbar read and just use that as my container background. then I made some transparent boxes for puting in text, images or form elements. Is that why I am not able to select any other those things on the site? this is the first time I try using css to make the whole webpage, so I would appreciate any guidance...thanks!! I know how to position regular text using the in-line style "text-align:right", but when I try to do that with a link I get nowhere. Simplified example: Code: <html> <body> <td><p style="text-align:right">Google</p></td> <td><a href="http://www.google.com" style="text-align:right">Google</a></td> <td><a style="text-align:right" href="http://www.google.com">Google</a></td> <td><span style="text-align:right"><a href="http://www.google.com">Google</a></span></td> <td style="text-align:right"><a href="http://www.google.com" style="text-align:right">Google</a></td> <span style="text-align:right"><td><a href="http://www.google.com" style="text-align:right">Google</a></td></span> </body> </html> The first body line works fine to move the text to the right, but the link in lines 2-5 of the body are stuck on the left. Any suggestions? (My actual code invokes a class from a css page in a particular <td> and I'm trying to force a link in that <td> to the right using an in-line style; while I can do that for regular text I haven't found the secret of doing that for a link.) i have almost perfected the text wrap for this page.... http://defunctgames.com/helpfix/relevent.php4 problem is, i put a margin-top:50px on the image, and i want the text above the image, to flow all the way to the left. thus fully wraping the text. I saw a website that was throwing text that was written and recalling it with a link into a textbox...are there any tuts or anyone help me out with this one thanx aim rpduece Hi. See code below. Why does the outer SPAN in TABLE not grow with the image height. If the text is longer so it is forced below image then it looks as it should. Please also read some comments in the code. Code: <html><body><center><br><br> Why does image not force the outermost span to be at least as high as image?<br> If the text are long enough and gets below the bottom border of image it look good though.<br><br> NOTE: I need to put Image and text either within separate span or in same span as the examples below.<br> In my real application I'm using an <a href=" ...> around the outer span in examples below.<br> <br><br> <table border=1 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 width=200px><tr><td> <span style="display:block; background-color:#ffa827; padding-top:10px; padding-left:10px; padding-right:10px;"> <span style="display:block; float:left"> <img src="landscape.jpg" height="40px" width="40px" alt="" border="0"> </span> <span style="display: block; color: white;"> Text here. </span> </span> </td></tr></table> <br><br> <table border=1 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 width=200px><tr><td> <span style="display:block; background-color:#ffa827; padding-top:10px; padding-left:10px; padding-right:10px; color: white;"> <img src="landscape.jpg" height="40px" width="40px" alt="" border="0" style="float:left"> Text here. </span> </td></tr></table> </center></body></html> Ok, I saw a topic that touched on this, but it was left unanswered, and was from 2002. I am attempting to build a web application that can be used by people to alter their profile design and style in their personals profile (dating site). I have managed to do this already manually by using the @import css command. This gives pretty much total control over the displayed profile. However, instead of creating an individual css file for each person (which could be alot of people) I want to use one css file, or rather a php file. I have managed to use php, style.php, and alter the heading to make it read as a css file via Code: <?php header("Content-type: text/css"); Ok, I have even tested this out, with a certain text class, and managed to alter its color via variables in the php. Eg - set the text color for the text labeled .g-s-n to be Code: $text1 = "119922"; then I insert that into the css via Code: .g-s-n{color:<?=$pageFG?>; THIS WORKS.... However, in order to make this one file work for everyone, I need it to query a database (sql) which I have done, it does return the values, the correct values too, but then it just doesnt work. Its like it takes too much time processing the query, and the page displays before the numbers can be retrieved. The result is that instead of a green text color, I get stuck with a dull grey. It does get the value, Im just unsure why it doesnt show it. Anyone know anything that might help? I am unable to use javascript in this circumstance because the dating site blocks most javascript commands, and the text fields in their profile section are limited in character space. Ok...so I want to create a photo gallery with dynamic content and layout. The hardest part was formating the page to make a php script that would pull the data from the DB and lay it out in a table. But if I used a standard HTML Table tag then the layout would not be dynamic. I searched around and found this script... <style> div.float { float: left; } div.float p { text-align: center; } </style> <div class="float"> <img src="image1.gif" width="100" height="100" alt="image 1" /><br /> <p>caption 1</p> </div> <div class="float"> <img src="image2.gif" width="100" height="100" alt="image 2" /><br /> <p>caption 2</p> </div> <div class="float"> <img src="image3.gif" width="100" height="100" alt="image 3" /><br /> <p>caption 3</p> </div> This will make the pictures wrap to the next row if there was an overflow. How would I make it so that instead of an image wrap...it would just display the images in X amount of colums? I am new to CSS...but not HTML, I understand how the above script works...but I do not know enough code to figure the probem out myself. Thank you for your help. If interested feel free to send me e-mail: theitf @t theitf | net Regards, Lubo well, I have a habit of making every one of my websites also an experiment with something new. Last time it was PHP, now it was CSSes and MySQL. They both were easy to learn, but I've already had to rewrite much of all of it to make my code cleaner and more proper. I've still got lots of that to do though, and I suppose I should do it before really promoting my website. So any feedback would be great: URL my site uses php and mysql database but the html has some nested tables on several pages, is it worth me changing my code to implement using css and no tables? whats everyones opinion on this? is it just better to leave it in tables, they are pretty messy i must say! i have 3 tables nested, and loads of php mysql code in there too any advice appreciated, Hi all, I dnt want to retype my situation, i put my 1st thread in the wrong forums. U can read up on what my query is in this link http://forums.devshed.com/t188904/s.html Thanks all Jim |
