CSS - Drop Down Menu Overlapping Content
http://www.larreamma.com/kids_programs.html
On the PC the last 'About Us' menu overlaps the body content when it is expanded. Does not occur on Mac (FF, Safari, Chrome). Tried playing with 'z-index' but if that is the issue then I am not putting it in the right place. Thank you in advance. Similar TutorialsWell I managed to find a partial solution by adding "clear" to the "statusDiv" like so: Code: .statusDiv { clear: both background-image: url(../png/disclosure_triangles/blue_block.png); height: 20px; margin-bottom: 1px; } This kicks sibling divs onto their own line (which is what I wanted) but the spacing between divs is 2 pixels and I can't seem to find any combination of padding, margins etc to get the spacing down to one pixel. Does anyone know of a way to control the inter-div spacing when "clear" is defined? Thanks Ken --------------------------------------------------------------- Original post --------------------------------------------------------------- I'm trying to make a few divs to create the same basic functionality as an outline (with disclosure triangles etc...) and am having alignment problems. The first row renders perfectly but the text of subsequent rows overlaps the text of first row. Here's the html: Code: <div id="contentBlock" class="bodyText"> <div class='statusDiv'> <div class='disclosureCollapsed'></div> <div class="disclosureDivLabel">New</div> </div> <div class='statusDiv'> <div class='disclosureCollapsed'></div> <div class="disclosureDivLabel">Open</div> </div> </div> And here's the CSS: Code: #contentBlock { position: absolute; top: 130px; left: 200px; height: 101%; /* Hack to force vertical scroll bars */ right: 280px; min-width: 400px; visibility: visible; display: block; } .statusDiv { clear: both background-image: url(../png/disclosure_triangles/blue_block.png); height: 20px; margin-bottom: 1px; } .disclosureCollapsed { background-image: url(../png/disclosure_triangles/blue_collapsed_wide.png); display: block; text-align: right; /*position: absolute;*/ float: left; top: 0px; left: 0px; width: 18px; height: 20px; } .disclosureCollapsed:hover { cursor: pointer; } How would I make the text in each subsequent row (statusDiv) line up? Thanks for any help Ken whats is wrong with my code???? why is css-drop-down overlapping my category text??? can u figure it out???? Code:- http://aquaciti.com/tools/index.htm thnx for your help Dear all, I have an iframe, and the page contained has many divs with absolute positioning in various positions (it is a calendar, outlook style). I can scroll up and down the iframe to view the divs, but the divs actually overlap the scrollbars for the iframe which makes it difficult to use. This happens in IE6 and 7, but not in FF. has anyone come across this before? Many thanks, Mark Hi everyone I have a 3 column layout with a footer. If the content ends up being too wide for the middle column (ie a large data table) I can't get the middle column to push the right hand column beyond the width of the screen. If the right column is absolutely positioned, the middle column just continues underneath the right column (overlaps). If the right column is floated right, it just drops down below the middle column. What I want it to do is bring up a horizontal scroll bar in the browser and let people scroll across for the right column. Based on the code below, if anyone has any ideas I would be unbelievably greatful. I've been pulling my hair out all day... My HTML is as follows: Code: <div id="content_container"> <div id="lft"> ... </div> <div id="mainbody"> .... </div> <div id="rght"> ... </div> <div id="footer"> ... </div> </div> My relevant CSS is as follows: Code: #content_container { position: relative; min-height: 100%; top: 0; left: 0; width: auto; height: auto; border: 1px solid red; } #lft { float: left; left: 0; top: 0; width: 24%; visibility: visible; } #mainbody { position: relative; left: 0; top: 0; width: 50%; height: auto; visibility: visible; } #rght { position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; width: 22%; visibility: visible; padding-right: 10px; } #footer { float: left; bottom: 0; left: 0; top: 0; clear: both; width: 100%; margin-top: 40px; padding-top: 15px; padding-bottom: 15px; visibility: visible; } Hopefully an easy fix and I'd appreciate any reference links I can bookmark. I have the following site with a navigation bar and content: jimspace.dreamhosters.com/whirligig The content is first in the source with a float: right and the nav bar next in the code with a float: left. In FF the items in the nav bar flow out of the DIV box as they should. When I switch to IE6, the DIV box expands to the size of the longest text causing a float drop. An overflow: hidden solves it, but then of course the nav bar items are cut off. Here's the relevant HTML: Code: <div id="content"> <h2>get whirligigged!</h2> <p>CONTENT</p> </div> <!-- content --> <div id="navcontainer"> <ul id="navlist"> <li class="a"><a href="#">Item one</a></li> <li class="b"><a href="#">Item two</a></li> <li class="c"><a href="#">Item three</a></li> <li class="d"><a href="#">Item four</a></li> <li class="e"><a href="#">Item five</a></li> <li class="f"><a href="#">Item six</a></li> <li class="g"><a href="#">Item seven</a></li> <li class="h"><a href="#">Item eight</a></li> <li class="i"><a href="#">Item nine</a></li> <li class="j"><a href="#">Item ten</a></li> </ul> </div> <!-- navcontainer --> And the relevant CSS: Code: div#content{float: right; margin: 90px 25px 0 0; height: 420px; width: 700px; clear: right; border: 1px solid red; } #navcontainer { float: left; width: 200px; border: 1px solid blue; } How can I get this to behave in IE6? Hello everyone, I have a drop-down menu that is currently working well. The only change I need to make is to have the right edge of the drop-down menu to align with the right edge of the parent menu. When you hover over the menu, it currently "drops" down and to the right, with the left edges aligned. I want the menu to "drop" down and to the left, so the right edges are aligned. I have tried fiddling with floats and absolute/relative positioning. I'm not sure what needs to be changed. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated! I'm learning via "cut and paste", so please go easy on any terminology you may use. Thank you! Here is the page: http://www.littlebuddymedia.com/site05/012.html The menu currently drops like this (aligned along the left edge): http://www.justskins.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/drop-down-menu.gif I want the menu to do this (align along the right edge; see how "Artists" is aligned under "Music" along the right edge): http://artatm.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/mtvmenu.JPG Here is my code: Code: .chromestyle{ width: 100%; font-weight: bold; float: left; height: 29px; } .chromestyle:after{ /*Add margin between menu and rest of content in Firefox*/ content: "."; display: block; height: 0; clear: both; visibility: hidden; } .chromestyle ul{ border: 0px solid #BBB; width: 100%; background: url(chromebg.gif) center center repeat-x; /*THEME CHANGE HERE*/ padding: 4px 0; margin: 0; text-align: right; /*set value to "left", "center", or "right"*/ } .chromestyle ul li{ display: inline; } .chromestyle ul li a{ color: #000000; padding: 4px 7px; margin: 0; text-decoration: none; border-left: 1px solid #DADADA; } .chromestyle ul li a:hover, .chromestyle ul li a.selected{ /*script dynamically adds a class of "selected" to the current active menu item*/ background: url(chromebg-over.gif) center center repeat-x; /*THEME CHANGE HERE*/ } /* ######### Style for Drop Down Menu ######### */ .dropmenudiv{ position:absolute; top: 0; border: 1px solid #BBB; /*THEME CHANGE HERE*/ border-bottom-width: 0; font:normal 12px Verdana; line-height:18px; z-index:100; background-color: white; width: 200px; visibility: hidden; } .dropmenudiv a{ width: auto; display: block; text-indent: 3px; border-bottom: 1px solid #BBB; /*THEME CHANGE HERE*/ padding: 2px 5px; text-decoration: none; font-weight: bold; color: black; } * html .dropmenudiv a{ /*IE only hack*/ width: 100%; } .dropmenudiv a:hover{ /*THEME CHANGE HERE*/ background-color: #0000ff; color: #fff200; } http://www.yentiming.com/ just play around with the menu on IE7 and you will see what will happen. i have tried messing around with z-index but i have found no success any ideas on how to fix this? I am creating a dropdown menu based on suckerfish. The top level appears correctly, however the first submenu level puts all the menu items stacked over top of eachother right under the top level. Everything is correct except the items are overlapping. My html and css are below. <ul id="nav"> <li style="border-left: none;"> <link here> <ul> <li> <link here> <ul> <li> <link here> </li> </ul> <ul> <li> <link here> </li> </ul> </li> </ul> <ul> <li> <link here> <ul> <li> <link here> </li> </ul> </li> </ul> <ul> <li> <link here> </li> </ul> </li> <li> <link here> <ul> <li> <link here> </li> </ul> <ul> <li> <link here> </li> </ul> </li> <li> <link here> </li> <li> <link here> </li> <li> <link here> </li> <li> <link here> </li> </ul> #nav, #nav ul { padding: 0; margin: 0; list-style: none; } #nav a { display: block; } #nav li { float: left; padding: 0px 10px 0px 10px; } #nav li ul { position: absolute; width: 200px; color: #FFF; background-color: #000; left: -999em; } #nav li:hover ul { left: auto; } #nav li:hover ul, #nav li.sfhover ul { left: auto; } #nav li ul ul { margin: -1em 0 0 10em; } #nav, #nav ul { padding: 0; margin: 0; list-style: none; line-height: 1; } #nav li:hover ul ul, #nav li.sfhover ul ul { left: -999em; } #nav li:hover ul, #nav li li:hover ul, #nav li.sfhover ul, #nav li li.sfhover ul { left: auto; } #nav li:hover ul ul, #nav li:hover ul ul ul, #nav li.sfhover ul ul, #nav li.sfhover ul ul ul { left: -999em; } #nav li:hover ul, #nav li li:hover ul, #nav li li li:hover ul, #nav li.sfhover ul, #nav li li.sfhover ul, #nav li li li.sfhover ul { left: auto; } #nav li:hover ul ul, #nav li:hover ul ul ul, #nav li:hover ul ul ul ul, #nav li.sfhover ul ul, #nav li.sfhover ul ul ul, #nav li.sfhover ul ul ul ul { left: -999em; } #nav li:hover ul, #nav li li:hover ul, #nav li li li:hover ul, #nav li li li li:hover ul, #nav li.sfhover ul, #nav li li.sfhover ul, #nav li li li.sfhover ul, #nav li li li li.sfhover ul { left: auto; } My CSS is pulled pretty much straight from suckerfish. there are a few small changes like the widths and background color, but the issue was there even when it was a direct copy. Currently I am only trying to get this to in firefox, as I am getting the same issue in every browser I try. Just an fyi, I am using umbraco as the CMS for this site, and it is generating the html for the menu. There are actual links I just cant post them as I am new here, they contain just the hfer attribute. Thanks I'm using The Man in Blue's "footerStickAlt" code to ensure a footer sticks at the bottom of the page even with *short* content. No problem there til I resize my browser window. When the browser window shortened and I scroll down, the footer has jumped up and is concealing part of the menu. Yikes. Pages where the content is longer than the menu are fine, so I haven't uploaded them. It's only when content is shorter than the menu that this issue arises ~ which is the exact issue it's supposed to be tackling! Flaw/s in the code? I've already tried ripping out the horizontal min-widths and it seems there's no conflict there. From what I can make out, it's just a matter between the menu and the footer.... altho, when the browser is shortened in the way I've described the actual footer moves higher than it should be. Still, can't believe it's blueman at fault here. Must be something I've missed or tagged wrong. Or maybe it just doesn't work with this kind of menu? For reference, Blue Man's original code is he http://themaninblue.com/writing/perspective/2005/08/29/ Am just hoping the clever folk here will have some advice. I've burnt the whole day on this to no avail :| I've worked out most css problems but I can't find any css that will make the drop down menu on my site sit on top of the YouTube video that you can see he www the-bizness .co. .uk If you click on Home Page or Multimedia the drop-down menu is behind the video clip. Very annoying. Any help appreciated! Following sample is from http://www.code-couch.com/jeff/snippets/general/tektips-navigation-example.html is what I am trying to reference to create a template. But how do I how keep the state of Menu on each requested page any help is appreciated. The following menu is saved in a separate jsp file i.e. navs.jsp. I include this navigation jsp file in all of my files. Initially the drop down looks like: Code: . Ask.Jeeves . [+] Google.com . [+] Yahoo.com Now clicking [+] in front of Google.com will look like. Code: . Ask.Jeeves . [-] Google.com . Google.co.ie . Google.co.ie . [+] Google.co.nz . [+] Yahoo.com Lets's say now if I click on Google.co.ie it takes me to sample.jsp and on this requested page (sample.jsp) how can I show the following menu hierarchy with Google.co.ie bold/underlined/colorchanged showing what menu content I clicked and am viewing the appropriate content i.e. Code: . Ask.Jeeves . [-] Google.com . Google.co.ie . Google.co.ie . [+] Google.co.nz . [+] Yahoo.com Same way clicking Google.com or Yahoo.com or Ask.Jeeves shows you the following hierarchy on the requested page with higlight/bold/colored the link we just selected. i.e. Code: . Ask.Jeeves . [+] Google.com . [+] Yahoo.com Any time clicking on the menu takes me to some page but on that page I want to show th hierarchy of the menu all the way to which is recently clicked with different color setting. In IE it's almost there, except that the submenus will only appear one level deep. The menu is created with nested lists. The :hover functionality is simulated via JavaScript for IE 6. The IE developer toolbar shows the 3rd level menu is correctly being changed to display: block when its parent is hovered, and the border the dev toolbar draws even puts it in the correct place, it just doesn't actually appear. You can find the page he http://www.perceptes.com/topdog/ The CSS and JS (uses jQuery) can be found he http://www.perceptes.com/topdog/css/screen.css http://www.perceptes.com/topdog/css/ie.css (loaded with a conditional comment) http://www.perceptes.com/topdog/js/tdps.js http://www.perceptes.com/topdog/js/ie.js (loaded with a conditonal comment) For a specific example of what I'm talking about, try hovering over the second item, Filters & Parts. This will give you another level with four choices. Each of those also has child elements, but when hovered over, the next level doesn't appear. Try it in something other than IE 6 or 7 to see how it's supposed to look. Thanks very much in advance! i am working on an autocomplete, and in firefox it works beautifully, in IE when the drop down occurs it falls behind all the other content on the page. i have tried using z-index to bring it up and that didnt work, what else is there that i can do to try and get this to work? http://www itsdavesworld com / divbehind.jpg I working on a CSS to display a round-shouldered-tab menu. Here is the page: http://www.whitecapgraphics.com/bates/front.php If you look at it in IE, there's actually no indication that it is dropping down at all, but I know it is as I moved the drop downs up a few pixels and I could see them dropping behind the div. Is there a way to vertically center the <a> inside the <li>? 2) The word-wrapped drop down options are extending outside of the menu - which of my styles is causing this? How can I solve it? *SOLVED* please delete this thread I have made a menu which I love because it is the layout that I want. However, I am having problems with the menu when I try to add a "Drop Down" feature to it. The menu I currently have and use is: http://www.gc40.com/menu2.html I would like to turn some of the tabs like services into a drop down menu. I found a script that was a drop down menu and I tried to customize it to match my original menu but failed. The script that I found is: http://www.gc40.com/menu1.html Is there anyone that can customize http://www.gc40.com/menu2.html for me using http://www.gc40.com/menu1.html so that I can have drop down capabilities? I would really appreciate the help. Thanks guys. Hi all, I am trying to style a drop-down menu. I'd like the hover state to have a transparent cut out on the menu... and the bottom of the drop down to be rounded. Probably makes more sense in the picture... which I am apparently not allowed to post. grrr. So think little triangle, but instead of being a different color, it is a transparent cut out. I've been banging my head into the keyboard for a couple of hours and can't seem to find the right way to tackle this. The problem is compounded by some of the menu items not have submenus. I'd like those to hover as if they were the bottom link in the drop down... ie, a notched edge and rounded bottom border. I would really appreciate anyone pointing me in the right direction here. Many thanks, -helga |
