CSS - Firefox And Chrome Not Styling Span Elements!?
Chrome and Firefox aren't styling any of the span elements I have-in IE they load fine. For example the css..I'll check back in this book I have and online to see if I can find the issue. I appreciate any help. For example heres a span I have.
Code: .title {background-color:CCCCCC; font-family:Verdana; margin:0px; padding:0px; border:2px double blue; height:70px; width:200px; } the html.. Code:
 home home

sidebar to the right

text

Title of something

some text sdfdsdsfdsf

It may be that the divs and spans are conflicting because of their properties or that they are not properly nested or named..? Here's my whole css document. Code: #container {margin-left:25%; margin-right:25%; } #header {text-align:center; background-color:grey; border:solid; border-width:2px; border-color:black; margin-bottom:20px; } #menu {background-color:white; border:solid; border-color:black; border-width:1px; font-family:Verdana; padding:8px; margin:0px; } .button {background-color:#FFFFCC; margin:3px; width:90px; border:solid; padding:2px; border-width:1px; border-color:black; text-decoration:none; color:grey; text-align:center; font-family:Verdana; font-size:small; } #content{background-color:white; font-family:Verdana; padding-left:20px; padding-top:0px; padding-bottom:0px; border:1px solid grey; margin-right:0px; margin-top:20px; height:900px; } .title {background-color:#CCCCCC; font-family:Verdana; border:2px double #000000; height:70px; width:200px; } #footer{align:center; background-color:grey;font-size:.60em;} #sidebar {float:right; width:150px; height:900px; background-color:white; border-left:1px double grey; margin-left:0px; padding:8px; } Similar TutorialsI'm trying to figure out how to do something like this: Code:
Lorem Ipsum Dolor jan 10 2006
And make the heading line up to the left side and the span on the right. It's close. It's lining up on the right but on the next line down rather than the same line. Take a look. Any bright ideas on why this is happening or how to fix it? Thanks. What I want is a result that looks like this: 1. (+2) --2. (+2) ----3. (+2) ------4. (+2) -------4.1. (+1) --------4.2. (+1) Where "-" is 1px, So: all parents should be positioned +2px relative to the previous parent item. All childs should be positioned +1 relative to their parent. What would be very very cool is to implement math function (eg each parent item should be previous indent * 4). I guess that one can not create a kind of dynamic indent (as in to write it all in one 'simple' statement). I assume that I should indeed write the css for each item. Is their a way to add such a code (something like 'padding-left: (ul li) * 2; and so forth... Given the following list: Code:

1.

2.

3.

4.

4.1.

4.2.

How does one get that kind of result and is it possible in the first place? Hi all, I've got a problem on my hands. I've been restructuring the site I work on from their FrontPage code to complete XHTML + CSS. I always thought that by using span's that I could make a block level element display inline, but keep all of it's block level uniqueness, such as height and width and other items, but would display right next to other elements. Works great with headers and such but not with boxes. I created a 4 system inside a centered div, figuring they'd all work. But span's don't keep their block level uniqueness, so nothing displayed at all! I fixed 3 of these 4 by putting their background images inside the spans, which I wanted to avoid, but it works so I won't complain on that. Now I have this. Code:

This is where things will go.

Span id featbot has no images, it has a repeat-x background so that I can place and change text in there at will. Because of this, and it being a span, it wraps only to the size of the text, which isn't good. I found a display: inline-table (displays as a table, but inline, pretty obvious), which works great in Safari for OS X, but not in IE 6 or Firefox on Windows. How would I structure this correctly so that it actually does work? Here is an image showing the design and how it's set up (ignore the gradients, they're not being used). As you can see where featbot is, that's where text will go, the others are images, so they display right. Suggestions? I'm really confused here... Thanks. I have this code that works fine in firefox and MSIE and the whole page validates with tidy (Green checkmark). I can't post a URL because its on a private server. The part that isn't quite right on safari is these: I have a table load of these that are part of a big form named commit.

This is the javascript code for mapbutt function mapbutt(myform, dex) { myform.action.value='map'; myform.qnum.value=dex; } The javascript does not return false so after clicking and setting the action and qnum values it is supposed to fall through to the form's serverside action, which it does. The problem is the styling of the submits. On every other browser they are whatever color I specify in the style I assign to them. Here is the style for button_notdone .button_notdone { font-family: monospace; font-weight: bold; width: 28px; height: 22px; color:#ffffff; background:#000000; } The background color in this case is supposed to be black and the text color is supposed to be white, and on safari it is black text on grey. I tried changing "input" to "button" which does indeed display the background color but unlike a submit it does not display the value. I need the text of the value to show in the text color over the button or submit or whatever it ends up being. How can I get these submits to look like what I want on safari. Thank you. Is it possible to style form elements (specifically checkboxes) with pure CSS, and without JS? I'm thinking of something similar to this (but without the JS): http://ryanfait.com/resources/custo...-radio-buttons/ Is is possible to style each type of input elements individually without the use of classes? Currently I use classes to make the borders of buttons appear differently from that of text fields. I use this in IE: as a blank spacer. The 22 is actually calculated so it varies. Of course it does not work in Firefox. I get no spacing at all. What is the acceptable cross browser method of doing this? Thanks in advance. Hello all! I've problem with firefox rendering's of span tag, the problem is in the width definition, the code is this: Code: My name is Danny! IE show me a 100% red row with the text instead Firefox show me only text with the backgroud color. Why this? is a Firefox bug or is not possible to assign width definition to the span tag?! I've quickly created a small website for a friend of mine and it's the first time I've used
and tags. It probably shows , because now it's a mixture of all kinds of layout methods. But anyway, it works fine in IE (what a lovely tolerant browser) but it messes up in Firefox. Have a look he www.duikeninegypte.nl The block text in the left column in the middel shows up fine in IE but is moved to the right in Firefox. Both pieces of text are defined in another file, so here it concerns the left part (_HOMEDUUR) and the middle part (_HOMEBODY). Why does it work in IE but not in Firefox? Cheers for any feedback! I've played and played with the stylesheets and cannot figure this one out. What other information should I post or provide to get some help? Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it. one line of text isn't in the position that i want it to be for ff and ie. Chrome seems to be viewing my fonts alot thinner/smaller than Safari and Firefox. Is there a method to create consistency and ignoring the webbrowsers standards? Its creating a mess, specially with my text which is using text-shadow. The blur looks like disaster. Thanks in advance. I do relatively simple websites and I did a simple one for a client of mine and have a problem selecting text in a column. The website is, jeffwalterssafety.com I can't seem to even touch the text. It acts like an "image" when looking at it in Firefox/Chrome but I can select it in IE 7. Be gentle in the site's criticism... Also let me know if it's necessary to have my CSS file here. Thanks Hi, okay I am working on a website for a friend, and it is peak-performance.biz I want the background image to fill up the page and be unscrollable. I made it work and look very good in chrome but it only takes up half the page in firefox. I was wondering if anyone have any ideas how to fix this. Thanks for your advice in advance. I have used html{ background-color:#000000; background-image:url(images/background.jpg); background-repeat:no-repeat; background-size:1300px; height:1000px; background-attachment:fixed; } and html{ background-color:#000000; background-image:url(images/background.jpg); background-repeat:no-repeat; background-size:100%; background-attachment:fixed; } Hi I'm struggeling with the following: I have some span elements inside a td. If I apply padding to a span then the padding is flowing outside the td (above and below the borders of the td). Why does that happen and is there a way to make the td to autogrow to fit all the span's inside? Se example code below Code:

First 1 2 3 4 5 Last

******* UPDATE ******* I found this link today: http://css-discuss.incutio.com/?page=FormattingContexts which says (among other things): ************************* Only one thing impacts the vertical space between inline elements: the line height. Normally, the line height is based upon the line height for the text in that line, or the height/padding/border/margin of any replaced items. The element on a line with the largest line height or replaced height is the one to define the vertical space that line takes up. Height, padding, border or margins on text do not impact the line height or the container height. Instead, borders, padding and margins overlap from line to line. If you want to give an inline text element some padding and border, make sure you give it some extra line height, too, or else it will overlap with whatever else is above or below it. ************************* So does that rule mean that I have no way to make my TD autogrow in relation to the padding applied to the SPAN in the example above? Is there any working workarounds for this...? Interesting situation i have. In my css i have this declared Code: css a:link, a:visited { color: #c97c0f; text-decoration: none; font-weight: bold; } a:active, a:hover { color: #82581d; text-decoration: underline; } div#buenprov_content a:link, a:visited { color: #644e14; text-decoration: none; font-weight: bold; } div#buenprov_content a:hover { color: #35290a; text-decoration: underline; } For a change, IE displays the link colors correctly, the ones inside the div with the id buenprov_content have the color i want them to, and the rest of the page has the ones that are global. However, in firefox, they all inherit the traits from the #buenprov_content Even links not inside divs with that ID.... as shown: Here ( The ones in the fading content should be a different color ) Im building that site for a restaurant...but anyways, im a bit stumped as to why FF is doing this...any help? Thanks. Quick question, can someone tell me why do i get a white space on the right side of the screen http://www.impulsanl.org/testing.htm on IE 7 and IE 8? It seems to work ok with firefox and google chrome. (all screen). CSS code: Code: #extraDiv1 { background: url(images/header1.png) repeat-x; position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; width: 100%; height: 100px; margin: 0; padding: 0; } HTML Quote:

thanks. Hello All, I have an image with a text label to the right that is linked. Now, I want a little whitespace between the image and the text, so that the text doesn't butt up right against the image. To accomplish this, I could use a non-breaking space ( ) However, the space then becomes part of the link and it gets underlined. So, by adjusting the image's margin (or padding) CSS, I can achieve the desired result... at least in Internet Explorer. Firefox/Safari/Chrome seem to underline a linked image's margin as well. I tried using "padding" CSS instead, but produced the same result. How can I get Firefox/Safari/Chrome to underline JUST the text in a link, and not the image (and it's margin) as well? This is how the code is displayed in IE: http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/2360/pfieeu9.jpg Firefox/Safari/Chrome: http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/5421/pffirefoxvv1.jpg You can see the little extra "nubbin" of underline between the icon image and the text. CSS: Code: a.red10ullink:link {color: #a80000; font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial; text-decoration: underline;} a.red10ullink:visited {color: #a80000; font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial; text-decoration: underline;} a.red10ullink:hover {color: #333333; font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial;} img.icon {vertical-align: middle; border-width: 0px; margin: 0px 5px 0px 0px;} HTML: Code: Printer Friendly Thanks! |
