CSS - Problem With Pos:absolute 100% Height Image In Ie7
Hi
I have a div where I want to use two vertical images as border. I also want the images to stretch vertically in relation to the height of div. Works in IE6, IE8, Firefox, and Chrome (have not tested other browsers yet), but not in IE7. IE 7 make the border images in example below, stretch all the way towards the bottom of the outer idv, far below the div in question. Does anyone know how I prevent IE7 to stretch the two border images below their parent container? Here is code used: Please use attached images if you want to test this. Nice way to test this in multiple browsers are he https://browserlab.adobe.com/en-us/index.html Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html> <head> <style type="text/css"> .quoteStretch { height:100%; } /* next is hack to make it work in IE6 */ * html .quoteStretch { height:expression( this.parentElement.offsetHeight+'px' ); } </style> </head> <body> <div style="width:300px; height: 400px; margin: 50px auto 0 auto; border: 1px solid red;"> <div style="position:relative; width:100%; border-bottom:1px solid gray;"> <img src="path-to-image/siteborder-left.jpg" width="1px" height="1px" class="quoteStretch" style="position:absolute; top:0px; left:-22px; z-index:auto; width:22px;" /> <img src="path-to-image/siteborder-right.jpg" width="1px" height="1px" class="quoteStretch" style="position:absolute; top:0px; right:-23px; z-index:auto; width:23px;" /> <div style="display:block; padding:15px;"> Text comes here <br /> Text comes here </div> </div> </div> </body> </html> Similar TutorialsHi, I have an Iframe within a web page, and I want to restrict it's height. Here is my CSS form the iframestyle.css: Code: #bodyInfo2{ position:absolute; z-index:9; margin-left:250px; padding-left:30px; float:left; margin-top: 40px; color:#000000; height:507px; overflow:auto; } And here is my CSS for the holder page: Code: #bodyInfo{ position:absolute; z-index:9; height:400px; /*width:90%*/ /*clear:left; */ margin-left:250px; padding-left:30px; float:left; margin-top: 40px; color:#000000; } Here is my code in holding page: Code: <iframe name="mainBody" src ="aboutUs.html" width="100%" frameborder="0"> </iframe> Here is the site: http://www.caillouette.com/NewestSelvan2/English/index.php Click on "services" My CSS is valid, but the text flows to far down the page. any ideas? thanks i am trying to have the background of all pages appear like this one: www(dot)grimebikes(dot)com/events/ however it will only fill its parent container, like this www(dot)grimebikes(dot)com/media/ fade1000.png is the image i need to cover the entire pages content. /* HTML Tag Redefinition */ html { height: 100%; background: #000000 url(images/background.png) center center fixed; background-size: cover;} body { padding: 0px; margin: auto; height:100%; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; } img { border: 0px; } a {cursorointer; } /* Page Structure / Navigation */ #page { position:relative; width: 1000px; margin: auto; text-align:left; background: url(images/fade1000.png) repeat-y; min-height:200%;} #page.logo {position:absolute; top:0; left:0; width:330;} #page input { color: #c2d826; background-color: #000000; border-style:solid; border-width:1px; border-color:#444444; padding:2px; font-size:10px;} #page #content {width: 900px; margin:auto; text-align:left; position:relative; height:100%; } #page #content #header{ position:relative; width:900px; float:left; } Hi, I have two images which are on top of each other, and the one on top is hidden. I use JS to change the source of the top to a new image, then fade the top image visible, then change the source of the bottom to be the same as the top, then make the top hidden (and so on and so on). To position the images on top of each other, I am using position: absolute. This works well when the DIV container has a defined height, however, when not the DIV collapses upon itself and the images are not displayed. Any suggestions how I might overcome this? Thanks Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>Test Heights</title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" /> <style type="text/css"> .mod_rotator { position: relative; overflow:hidden; height: 100px; } .mod_rotate_image {position: absolute;} img.mod_rotate_image.front {display: none;} </style> </head> <body> <div class="mod_rotator"> <img class="mod_rotate_image back" src="images/rotator/corporateimage1.jpg" /> <img class="mod_rotate_image front" src="images/rotator/corporateimage1.jpg" /> </div> </body> </html> Hi all, I am trying to automate everything on my test website and I have one more angle to cover. In effect, I want to adjust the line-height property (which I can do) based on the number of files within a specific folder (PHP and already done). The more files in the folder, the lower the line-height value must be. This is to ensure if I copy additional files into the folder, then the navigation menu (which is PHP reading files in this particular folder) will alter the CSS line-height property accordingly to ensure it can never exceed a certain height. Sounds wierd? go to www.re3.org.uk (next to the RE3 image, I have a list of hyperlinks which are obtained from files within the folder) My problem, when adjusting the CSS property (which is set as cm in *.css file) in javascript, it doesn't correspond correctly, the line-height property in javascript doesn't appear to be work in cm but some other measurement. Does anyone know how to change what unit of measurement Javascript works in? Or does anyone know what unit of measurement javascript uses when adjusting line-height / line-width values? I want to create a mini-algorithm that works out the appropriate line-height based on the image height (got that already) and the number of files in the folder (got that too) so the menu automatically adjusts to fit. Whew! It seem that everytime I added the image tag, the div'x area get bigger in IE but not in Mozilla/Firefox browser. So, I thought by added the "margin-bottom:-360px;" to the div would fix it but it had an opposite effect. Meaning it worked in IE but Mozilla show a vertical scrollbar. So, does anyone know how can I make the <img> overlap one another without being stacked on one after another in height for IE if I take out the "margin-bottom: -360px;"? Thanks... Code: div.divBox1 { width: 286px; height: 359px; float: left; } div.divClearFloat { clear: both; height: 0px; /* For IE Stupidity (it added some spaces after clearing the float) */ font-size: 1pt; /* For IE Stupidity (minimum height only work with current font-size somewhere) */ } div.divDottedLineAdvertisementSeperator1 { width: 575px; height: 3px; background-color: #ff0000; font-size: 1pt; /* For IE Stupidity (minimum height only work with current font-size somewhere) */ } Code: <div class="divBox1"> <div style="margin-bottom:-360px;"> <img src="images/doctor.jpg" style="position:relative;top:0px;left:0px;z-index:2;"> <img src="images/we_help.jpg" style="position:relative;top:-360px;left:0px;z-index:1;"> </div> </div> <div class="divClearFloat"></div> <div class="divDottedLineAdvertisementSeperator1"></div> I've never done much CSS work, but I know this has to be an easy fix. Each DIV appears to be 10px higher when viewed in IE. I want them to be 8px high and they end up being 18px high. In Firefox, Netscape, and Opera it works fine. Anyone mind correcting this imbarrassing little problem? I originally accomplished this a few years ago on my website, but now I am trying to do a new build, and this time around the code I used last time is not working! The working image can be seen here, it is the banner logo displayed at the top of the page. It's currently perfectly set, and all I want is to have that again on a new page. However, when I simply copy/paste the old code onto that new page, it doesn't look anything like the original. Here is the original code. In retrospect I have no idea how I got it to work, since it looks messy as heck: Code: <table align="center" style="position:relative; top:-15; z-index:5" border="0" width="983" height="198"> <tr><td><img style="position:absolute; top:0;" src="http://www.thesunderedguard.com/images/banner.jpg"></td></tr> </table> All my tinkering around with the new page has not been successful at all. Any help would be much appreciated! Cheers The year is 2009, and surely there is a way to such a simple thing as displaying photos of unknown size in the H-center of a Div--without running off the screen. Oh wait, there isn't. The problem: Given unknown picture size, 1) if I don't specify absolute positioning (or fixed), I can center it but then it floats to the top of the parent which looks silly. 2) If I do specify absolute (or fixed) positioning, I can't center it. Please prove me wrong. I just want a simple slide-show page without telling folks what to set their resolution at, or how big the pictures need to be. Ok, ive got the footer bar that should be at the bottom of content, in FF it displays perfect, but in IE it disappers http://fasttracksites.com/new%20layout/ heres the css Code: html, body {height: 100%;} body { background: #beb185 url('images/bggrad.gif'); background-attachment: fixed; font-family: Helvetica, Tahoma, Verdana, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16px; color: #000; padding: 0px; margin: 0px; text-align: left; } /*============================== Layout ==============================*/ div#container { background: #fff; width: 961px; height: 100%; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-align: left; float: left; z-index: 1; } div#page { height: 100%; float: left; z-index: 2; } #left-col { background: #121212 url('images/leftcolgrad.jpg'); color: #fff; width: 190px; min-height: 100%; height: 100%; padding: 0px 5px 0px 5px; border-right: 10px solid #13496e; float: left; z-index: 3; } #right-col { color: #000; width: 750px; height: 100%; padding: 0px; border-right: 1px solid #121212; float: right; z-index: 4; } div#header { background: #fff; width: 740px; height: 78px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px 5px; text-align: left; float: left; z-index: 5; } div#content { background: #fff; width: 740px; padding: 0px 5px 0px 5px; float: left; clear: both; z-index: 6; } div#footer { position: absolute; bottom: 0px; background: #000 url('images/footergrad.jpg'); width: 740px; height: 180px; padding: 0px 5px 0px 5px; float: left; /*clear: both;*/ z-index: 7; } Hi, I have a table with the following div : div#mod-banner { height:60px; position:absolute; right:180px; top:22px; width:468px; } in IE7 and Opera looks ok but in IE6 it shows it like its left aligned or something. I dont have any knowledge of CSS , can anybody help me? Thanks IE absolutely sucks (pun intended). Or mayhaps its the developer. All of this renders and works correctly in FireFox, Opera, and Safari. In IE 7 and 6, it works correctly, but does not render correctly. In IE 7, the images (all 687 x 243) seem to be indented 687 pixels. In IE 6, there is a lot of trailing border in the links and that is pushing the images below the menu and will then probably have the same problem IE 7 is having. Thoughts? Edited to add that I solved the IE 7 problem by removing text-align: right; from the #top_main_content #rotating div. I still have the IE6 problem however. I am working on a site laid out with divs. I am having trouble with one in particular: shopping basket div. If you go to http://www.refinethetaste.com/html/ At the header section you will see a shopping basket right on top of the logo. I want it stand on the navigation section but I want it float to right. I have tried several different things with its positioning, I just cant get it right. K...I have an absolutely positioned toolbar in a search tool page. There are instances where the toolbar (on the left) is longer than the actual (non-absolute) results. When this happens, IE refuses to scroll for the absolutely positioned content! Anyone know what I can do about this? It's a little...crappy. MPEDrummer Hi css-ers, I wonder if anyone can tell me what I've done wrong. I have an absolutely positioned div that shows up perfectly in all browsers except IE 6 (I haven't tried it in IE7 yet). I have another abs pos div on the page that behaves perfectly. Any suggestions? This is the x/html: Code: <div id="logo"> <a href="index.html"></a> </div> This is the CSS: Code: #logo { left: 20px; top: 0px; position: absolute; z-index: 5; margin: 0pt; border: 1px solid #315185; } #logo a { background: transparent url(../images/logo.jpg) no-repeat scroll 0px 0px; display: block; height: 435px; width: 140px; } #logo a:hover { background: url(../images/logo.jpg) no-repeat scroll 0px -435px; display: block; height: 435px; width: 140px; } Thanks for any tips or references. I'm working on a pet project on the off chance that I could be hired by a small business referral organization in the city where I live, so this isn't super urgent. I'm also not a web developer by trade, more IT, so if I make any obvious mistakes, feel free to point them out. I've got a simple absolute-positioned two-column layout and a two-color background that I want to tile vertically behind it. The problem seems to be that the browsers ( IE and FF, haven't tried chrome/safari/opera) seem to think that the body ends at the bottom of the logo I set on top, and won't tile it beyond the bottom of the image. I think I might be able to figure that one out on my own, though. Like I said, no rush. This isn't a paid gig Hi folks, Just got one of those "can I or can't I" questions that relates to position:relative and position:absolute. I have the following structure - Code: <div> <div style="position:relative"> <ul style="position:relative"> <li> <p> <span style="display:block"></span> <span style="display:block"></span> <span style="display:block; position:absolute"></span> </p> </li> </ul> </div> </div> The Third Span is where I am not sure about. I'd like it to sit at the bottom right of the enclosing <p>. When I use <span style="display:absolute; bottom:2px; right:2px>, the whole span disappears - not exactly sure where it vanishes to. Without the bottom and right declarations, the span stays put. There is sufficient space within the <p> for the <span> to move about. This absolute positioning worked fine without the relative div and relative ul - so I am assuming that's where my issue lies. BUT, I need the outer structure and it's not an option to change anything except the third <span>. Question is: Is what I am attempting going against the grain and something that just isn't going to work? If so, what steps can I take to position the contents of the <span> where I need it? I have tried making the <span> fit the width of the <p> and then positioning the internal contents to text-align:right. I can't do a padding-top or margin-top as the content in the second span is variable. Any clever ideas? I am trying to make a layout with a background image with 3 content boxes layered on top of it. The first two boxes are position correctly. They are offset top, left and top, right respectively. The third box should be positioned bottom, left but for some reason it isn't working. The left offset is working correctly, but instead of positioning itself off of the bottom of the container div, it positions itself that much above the viewport. If I set the bottom property to negative something, it acts like a top offset. While this is a workaround, it does not provide acceptable functionality. Anyone have any ideas? I've had two friends who are both seasoned web developers look at this and they were both stumped. I can post images of what it looks like and what it should look like if desired. Both of these code sections are php generating the html and css respectively. html: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html lang="en" xml:lang="en" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-type" content="text/html;
