CSS - Simple List Display Issue
My site has two areas that display a similar looking menu. It's just horizontal links for home, blog, shopping cart, etc. I think it uses a list to display these.
My question is if you look the following link, the horizontal menu links at the top display instantly. easylinuxcds.com/blog On this second link they bunch up the the left for a second then spread out into the proper horizontal format. easylinuxcds.com How can I prevent this and have both pages look like /blog? Thank you for reading - Andrew Similar TutorialsHi everyone, For years I've been using tables solely to position elements on web pages but it's come to my attention that this is now "frowned" upon in the web community so I figured if I'm going to start doing things the more common way (with DIVs) I might as well start now. I'm not a professional website developer (C programmer here...eek! haha), but I do part time web work for some important clients of mine. So I have a very simple layout done with DIVs/CSS to start (code at the bottom). The problem is when you render it you'll see a large gap between the bottom of the layout and bottom of the page. My hypothesis is that this is due to where the "DIVs" would normally have been, except I moved them around. It sounds very similar to the problem encountered he http://forums.devshed.com/css-help-116/how-to-remove-blank-space-at-bottom-554773.html but I don't see what he did to solve it. Note that ultimately what I want is only the "header" and "footer" to have a fixed width/height. The leftcol and content should have fixed widths, but height grow with what ever is in them. And it should be centered in the page the way it is now. I tried various "text-wrap" and "height: 100%" and a few different codes but no luck. I really don't want to have to give up on DIV's but I am finding them a tad frustrating . I've altered the code from here (http://www.devarticles.com/c/a/Web-Style-Sheets/DIV-Based-Layout-with-CSS/3/). I tried "floating" them but that didn't seem to help either or is messes up my centering, plus I don't want it expanding to different resolutions. Thanks in advance if you can give a DIV newbie a heads up. Looks something like this: <features> <boot length="30" max-depth="160" min-depth="30" cover="false"/> <dvd/> <radio/> <fuel type="Unleaded" ron="98"/> </features> Each car has a different list of features. How would i write the code in css, to display "Features" then the list of features, with fuel in bold, starting on a new line on in a box? Many thanks Hi, I'm trying to make a simple rollover menu with a

list. My XML file is: <document> <employee> <firstname>peter</firstname> <lastname>lance</lastname> </employee> </document> My corresponding styledocument css file is : employee {display:list-item;color:red;} firstname {display:inline;} lastname {display:inline;} --- Output in IE5: peter lance ----- The expected output should be peter and lance as list items with bullets preceding them and in red color. But my output is peter lance in just red color without any bullets. List-item value of the display attribute is not recognised at all. Can u help deal with this problem!!! Hey, Page in question In FF, the top menu (laser tag, arcade etc.) works well...'glo golf' is sitting on the 'bear factory' option as it should...no dice in IE, i don't know what the deal is. here's the css; Code: #activities { position:absolute; top:233px; left:-5px; width:760px; height:80px; margin:auto; } #activities a { text-decoration:none; display:block; height:80px; } #activities li#glogolf a { background-image:url(images/glogolf_button_off.gif); } #activities li#glogolf a:hover{ background:transparent; } #activities li#glogolf { background-image:url(images/glogolf_button_roll.gif); width:190px; height:40px; float:left;} #activities li#bearfactory a { background-image:url(images/bearfactory_button_off.gif); } #activities li#bearfactory a:hover{ background:transparent; } #activities li#bearfactory { background-image:url(images/bearfactory_button_roll.gif); width:190px; height:40px;float:right;} Thanks! Im having spacing issues with my main navigation. I cant get rid of the spaces between the li. There are these white spaces between the dark gray navigation. Ive tried putting negative px in my li and my paddings/margins for li are 0. I am fairly new to css and this is my first list navigation. Any help is appreciated. This is because some of the bios are shorter than the picture and some are longer, requiring me (for the shorter entries) to add
s to the bio to reach the end of the picture. Of course, depending on the browser and display settings, a greater or smaller number of
s are needed to get to the end of the picture so code that looks right on one pc does not look right on another. Here's a sample of the code I am using: Code:
Bob Smith

Faculty in Math and Physics.
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. Since 1999.

Edgar Jones

Faculty in Spanish, Greek, Latin,
and Latin American History.
he quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. he quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. he quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. he quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. he quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. he quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. he quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. he quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. he quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. he quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. he quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. he quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. he quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. he quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. he quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. he quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. he quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.Since 2005.

Because the bio in the first entry is short, I need those three extra
s to reach the bototm of the picture (otherwise the next entry floats up and into the first). But as a result, the spacing between entries where the top entry needed
s looks wrong compared to other entries depending on the user's individual settings. Any sugestions for how to fix this problem? I guess I could set up a table and use different rows for each entry, but I was hoping not to need a table. Thanks. (p.s. - I am using joomla for this site but I don't think that's relevant to this question.) Trying to resolve the spacing issues when using a list. IE honors the set margin while FF appears to add much more amrgin spacing. I have tried using display:inline but when I do, I lose the haning indent. Any suggestions? Here are a couple of questions, all are in reference to THIS LAYOUT 1) There seems to be an Internet Explorer issue where bullets don't always show up on list items, any ideas how to fix this? 2) It wont validate in XHTML simply because of two urls I use, anyone have any hacks as to how to fix this? 3) I've only been able to test on IE and Firefox, so if anyone is on a different browser and can let me know of any other issues it would be amazing. Thanks in advanced! Weird issue with FF ive noticed can anyone explain why this happens? I have two divs, header and nav. Nav is inside header. Now when I placed a list inside nav it pushed my header div down abit maybe 15px. However when I added the following rule... Code: #nav ul{ margin-top:0px; } The error goes away. Strange isnt it? expert, so I'm experiencing this problem with a dynamic list of message board topics. Inside of a table, I've got the following DIV to create each topic with rounded borders for the buttons. Code:
 {name}
The CSS is... Code: div#topic{ margin: 2 2px; background: #D8EEE7; float: left; font-weight:bold;} b.rtop, b.rbottom{display:block;background: #FFF} b.rtop b, b.rbottom b{display:block;height: 1px; overflow: hidden; background: #D8EEE7} b.r1{margin: 0 5px} b.r2{margin: 0 3px} b.r3{margin: 0 2px} b.rtop b.r4, b.rbottom b.r4{margin: 0 1px;height: 2px} Here's my problem...in Firefox/Safari/Camino, it does exactly what I want. Each button is dynamically sized perfectly, and they display (left floated) one after the other, but in IE, it displays them as a vertical (rather than horizontal) list. I'd imagine this has something to do with the FLOAT tag, but I have no idea how to solve the problem. Here's the link...I'm referring to the list of topics under "BOARD TOPICS": http://www.2ndfloor.org/message_board_updates/index.php?action=message_board Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Jeremy Ok, I bought the manual on css but still can seem to resolve what I am sure is a simple issue for someone out there. Please browse to http://tmh.netdbs.com/turnkey You see the left column, I put a red background color in just to troubleshoot, the div it is specifying the color for should ALWAYS stretch to pages bottom? What is going on here? I can't get it to do that? Thanks so much. I set the height to 100%??? Tom I have no clue what the heck is going on here! I'm just making a simple layout and all of a sudden the wrapper div is scooting down in FF and Chrome. It looks fine in IE...what the heck is going on? lol. I haven't had this type of problem since I first started CSS. I bet I'm missing something simple. http://mcculloughdesigns.com/sdm/mi...on/template.php Oddly enough, if you apply the class "btest" (just creates a 1px border) to the wrapper div, it displays properly in the problem browsers. Hello ;> Basicly I'm trying to make several
s, that are situated 1 under the other. Each of them must hold 1 image that is on the LEFT side, so the text of the
will be on the right side of the image. [image] text

thats how i did it. However when i put float: left, to the image as to fix it the IMG from the
below the 1st
overlaps the other so i tried and made a
between the
s with clear:both The problem with that is that IE leaves space between the
s while FF and Opera doesn't. Any way to fix that? Or a more correct way to do it ? Thanks! not sure where to go with this. I'm not a great CSS developer by any means. but this is killing me. I'm working on two sites. I've created a login box that changes to member links once logged in. but the box display is not working correctlly. In FF it looks right. but in IE it adds a space below the h2 line. I've set margin and padding to 0 on this and it doesn't seem to matter. Any thoughts? FYI this site is in dev. if you click the member pages you'll see data. on the filter pages there are NSFW words in the list. I've not yet set the permissions so that guests can't see the sample data. the site URL is: 15.e-referrer.com/cms Any help is greatly appreciated. EDIT: Sorry, had to remove the hyperlink code. can't post urls as a new user. 3 years later Hi folks, I have an issue where I'm assuming must be a z-index issue, but I'm not exactly sure. If you have a look at a1e. ca/beta (remove spaces) the site is just a framework for an upcoming design I'm doing, so obviously the site is a major work in progress. In the upper-right hand corner of the site, I've got Google custom search box. Search works great, and I've got the results displaying immediately below the search box in it's own DIV. What I'd like is for the results DIV to overlap all the other parts of the site below it, so there's no bleed-through from the elements underneath. It seems to work fine with the banner and nav menu divs, but anything underneath that (the right column and it's sub elements) bleeds through, while the banner and nav menu does not. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing? Site URL: a1e. ca/beta (remove spaces) Main CSS: a1e. ca/beta /css /main.css (remove spaces) Google Search CSS: a1e. ca/beta /css /googlesearch.css (remove spaces) Hello, I am having a problem with a client's site that I am sure is a CSS wrapper issue. It's happening in IE 7 for me - that is the version I have. It displays fine in Firefox, Opera & Netscape. I would give the link but am not allowed as a new user so I will describe what is happening. When viewing with IE the header starts 1/2 way down the page and the top of the page displays only the body background. If you refresh a few times "most of the time" it will right itself. Here is the CSS code I used: body { background: #240000 url(images/bg3.jpg) repeat-y center top; margin: 0; padding: 0; color: #CC9933; } #Wrapper { background:#240000 url(images/lbg.jpg) no-repeat scroll center top; height:399px; margin:0 auto; width:100%; } Admittedly I do not use CSS in it's pure form. My pages are still table-based layouts and not entirely W3C compliant. I am doing my best to learn how to ditch the tables but in the meantime I still have sites to complete and old habits die hard. I only design as a sideline and for a niche market. So I don't mean to offend any of you who are doing it the right way. This is the first time I have attempted a double background using the wrapper so any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time! K Hey everyone, The page below displays perfectly in both IE6 and Firefox, but in IE7 my navigation disappears and the right navigation in the header is all crunched together. livedifference dot com slash test slash home I'm not really a CSS guru, but I've tried clearing floats via tons of methods and adding random things, but nothing seems to work. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, I really need to get this up and running. Thanks, Brad hey all, i am new to using CSS. (Yes i am very much behind the times). But i am trying to rectify that! Now the problem i am having is that i have a flash object that i simply want to align centered horizontally and it stays centered no matter what. but i would also like to position it y = 100 (x and y positioning) any ideas! Hi All, I was wondering if someone could help and take a look at this. I have a site that is not displaying correctly in chrome and also Safari (at least on the iPhone). The rest of the page is fine, but these images appear stretched vertically (the horizontal width appears OK). The CSS for the element is: CSS Code: Original - CSS Code .keybox{float:left;margin:1px;width:100%;text-align:justify;padding:0px;padding:5px;line-height:100%;} .keybox img{float:left;width:35%;padding:0px;margin:0px;} .keybox div{float:right;width:60%;padding:1%;} .keybox div ul{text-align:left;margin:0px;padding:0px;} .keybox{float:left;margin:1px;width:100%;text-align:justify;padding:0px;padding:5px;line-height:100%;} The html for the element is: html Code: Original - html Code

Perkins and Volvo Spares

".COMPANY_SHORTNAME." spares for Perkins Engines and Volvo Penta engines. Mecc Alte AVR, Newage Stamford AVR and many other makes.

Perkins Spare Parts

Volvo Spare Parts

Mecc Alte Spare Parts

Newage Stamford Spare Parts

Perkins and Volvo Spares

".COMPANY_SHORTNAME." spares for Perkins Engines and Volvo Penta engines. Mecc Alte AVR, Newage Stamford AVR and many other makes.

Perkins Spare Parts

Volvo Spare Parts

Mecc Alte Spare Parts

Newage Stamford Spare Parts

The image stretches - it works fine on firefox and IE8. The web address is www.wellandpower.net There are 3 of these html elements on the left hand side of the page. TIA Regards Charlie |
