CSS - Creating A Border Around The <body>
Hi, I'm trying to create a border around the body, no matter how wide the window is.
Here is an example:click here You will notice that the right hand border is to far right. He's the css for the body tag: Code: body { background-image: url(images/bkg.gif); background-repeat: repeat-x; font-family:"Lucida Grande", "Lucida Sans Unicode", "bitstream vera sans", "trebuchet"; background-color: #414548; border-style:solid; border-width:24px; border-color:#414548; border-bottom-width:200px; width:98%; height:100%; margin-left:0; margin-right:0; } I think the problem isn't in the body CSS, but maybe some place else. I can't figure it out. Can someone help? thanks Similar TutorialsI can only get margin to work with the body element. border & padding don't. Can someone explain why pls. Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> <title>Untitled Document</title> <style type="text/css"> body { margin: 0px; border: 10px; } </style> </head> <body> <div>This is some text</div> </body> </html> Also, i get the same result if I define a simple class and use div. e.g. .myclass { margin: 0px; border: 10px; } <div class="myclass"> some text </div> Only the 'margin' works within the class. So, I'm trying to find out if there's an easy way to create a shadow around a border. Essentially, I've got a white background div, with an inner div that takes up part of the white. The inner div has a gray background, and I want to somehow give it the impression of being raised from the white. I couldn't find too much searching through google.. then again, not sure what exactly I need to search for in google. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Something like this gives real thick and uneven borders, is it possible to make the borders combine and become one single border when they are next to each other? I don't want to use seperate border-top border-left etc ... Thank you. Code: <HTML> <HEAD> <style type="text/css"> div.table div { border : 1px solid black; /* border-collapse : collapse; */ } div.table div.tr { clear : both; } div.table div.tr div.th { float : left; font-weight : bold; width : 25%; } div.table div.tr div.td { float : left; width : 25%; } </style> </HEAD> <BODY> <div class="table"> <div class="tr"> <div class="th">column 1</div> <div class="th">column 2</div> <div class="th">column 3</div> <div class="th">column 4</div> </div> <div class="tr"> <div class="td">num 1</div> <div class="td">num 2</div> <div class="td">num 3</div> <div class="td">num 4</div> </div> <div class="tr"> <div class="td">numAAA 1</div> <div class="td">numA 2</div> <div class="td">numAAAA 3</div> <div class="td">num 4</div> </div> <div class="tr"> <div class="td">num 1</div> <div class="td">num 2</div> <div class="td">num 3</div> <div class="td">num 4</div> </div> <div class="tr"> <div class="td">num 1</div> <div class="td">num 2</div> <div class="td">num 3</div> <div class="td">num 4</div> </div> </div> </BODY> </HTML> Hi. Have created some simple tabs using table cells. Active tab should have bottom-border color equal to page background-color. Non-active tabs should have bottom-border=black. Works fine in IE, but does not work very well in Firefox. If I remove the border-collapse:collapse on the table, then firefox also work... but I would like to be able to keep the 1px border between each table cell. So is there a way to make this work in both IE and Firefox... and hopefully most other browsers... See code below: Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/loose.dtd"> <html> <head> <style type="text/css"> a.menu_top:link {color: #000000; text-decoration: none;} a.menu_top:visited {color: #000000; text-decoration: none;} a.menu_top:hover {color: #000000; text-decoration: none;} a.menu_top:active {color: #000000; text-decoration: none;} td.menu_top_passive { background-color: #777; border-left: 1px #000000 solid; border-right: 1px #000000 solid; border-top: 1px #000000 solid; border-bottom: 1px #000000 solid; text-align: center; cursor:pointer; font-weight: bold; padding: 5px 20px 5px 20px; margin: 0; } td.menu_top_active { background-color: #bbb; border-left: 1px #000000 solid; border-right: 1px #000000 solid; border-top: 1px #000000 solid; border-bottom: 1px #bbb solid; text-align: center; cursor:pointer; font-weight: bold; padding: 5px 20px 5px 20px; margin: 0; } </style> <script language="JavaScript"> function change(id, url) { for (i=1; i<6; i++){ eval("document.getElementById("+i+").className='menu_top_passive'"); } eval("document.getElementById("+id+").className='menu_top_active'"); } </script> </head> <body style="margin:0; padding:0; background-color:#bbb;"> <br><br> <center> 1. Load the page.<br> 2. Click Item 4.<br> 3. Click Item 2.<br><br> Why is the bottom border of the menuelements (table cells) not getting correct in Firefox?<br> None-active menuelements should have a border-bottom = black, active should have same bottom-border as page.<br> Notice that I use border-collapse on the table in order to get the cell-border 1px thick between the menuitems.<br> If I remove border-collapse, then there is no strange behaviour in Firefox.<br> Any way to get this working in Firefox without breaking it in IE? </center> <br><br><br> <table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" align="center" style="border-collapse:collapse;"> <tr> <td id="1" nowrap class="menu_top_active" onClick="change('1');"><a href="javascript:;" class="menu_top">Item 1</a></td> <td id="2" nowrap class="menu_top_passive" onClick="change('2');"><a href="javascript:;" class="menu_top">Item 2</a></td> <td id="3" nowrap class="menu_top_passive" onClick="change('3');"><a href="javascript:;" class="menu_top">Item 3</a></td> <td id="4" nowrap class="menu_top_passive" onClick="change('4');"><a href="javascript:;" class="menu_top">Item 4</a></td> <td id="5" nowrap class="menu_top_passive" onClick="change('5');"><a href="javascript:;" class="menu_top">Item 5</a></td> </tr> </table> </body> </html> I'm a little puzzled by this weird display bug by IE7, this bug doesn't occur in IE6. It had to do with the DIV's CSS's border-style. If you set it to double then you notice some random bugs with it. Some of the time, the border is displayed without a problem. Some of the time, it is displayed with some gaps in the line as if it is not being drawn upon. Some of the other time, it is not displayed at all. I noticed if I switch from one tab to another then back, the border appeared as if nothing had happened. I also noticed that if I open the view source that overlapp the web browser then closed it, the border appeared as if nothing had happened. How do you fix that problem? Thanks... Hi, This used to be my solution: Code: <table border=1 bordercolorlight='#CCCCCC' Bordercolordark='#FFFFFF'> But this only works well on IE - not Mozilla Now I want to use CSS: Code: .results { border: 1px solid #CCCCCC ; } Code: <table class='results'> --------------- The problem is, with CSS, only the TABLE acquires the border property. The cells within it don't. If I specify Code: <td class='results'> for all the cells in the table, this also won't work, because the cell borders overlap each other and some border lines seem thicker than others (because of overlapping). Is there any simple way I can specify the border property for the table - in ONE declaration? I want the table and td borders all to be a simple 1px width ...is that possible in one declaration? Thanks a lot! I would like to set up a table with a different border than the cells inside it. Here's my code: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Untitled Document</title> <style type="text/css"> TABLE {border: 1px solid black; border-collapse: collapse; width: 200px} TD {border: 1px solid #ccc} </style> </head> <body> <table> <tr> <td> </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> </table> </body> </html> That's all hunky dory in (gasp!) IE, but good browsers...they only show the lighter gray color. How do I get the table border to be different? How do you create an inner border around a table in css, rather than a "solid" border which creates a border line around the table on the outer half. The border needs to butt up against an image, rather than leaving a pixel space. This is the coder I have so far. Nothing big: Code: .solid { border: solid 1px #000000; } Thanks. Hi all, I would like to be able to have the body background change when moving from page to page. Is it possible, without javascript. Code: body { margin: 0px; padding: 5px 0px 5px 0px; background: url(blue2.jpg) fixed; } { Specifically the surrounding blue2.jpg that frames the page. page link css link Thanks. Hi, Does anyone knows how i can have css style in the body. The whole coding part should be in the body. I need show link which have the same propertise in a PHP code and I am just editing it. I am trying to work it around this way. I juts want to have link to another page with different font and font folor change when hover. Can someone show me how i can do this. I am new to css. Please help me. I am currently setting the body id of my pages to highlight what item I am on... Such as: body#news #news_tab a, { border-bottom: 1px solid #fff; background: #fff; color: #000; } But I was wondering if it was also possible to somehow make a div appear (changing display from hidden to block) by putting an id in the body tag....But since the div isn't a link, for some reason I can't make it work. I tried: Adding this div: <div id="news" style="display:none">Testing Me</div> Adding this body tag: <body id="news"> And then adding this style definition: body#news #news { display: block; } but it still doesn't display. Is this just not possible? Is there anyway around it? Thanks! hello friends, please tell me how can i specify a hyperlink, active, hover and visited attribute in body { } for example i have the following css BODY { margin-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; background-color: #F2F2F2; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11px; color: #000000; text-align: left; } now i want to specify the default hyperlink with active, hover and visited attribute within body. Thx. I am trying to center the whole page. the body contains all divs, contained in one main div. I tried I trick I have been using for a while but it messed with one the other divs. I was using Margin-Left:-375px; Position:Absolute; Left:50%; any ideas for another way to center my page? 'Ello, I have a slight problem with some CSS I am using, it works perfectly fine in other browsers but in IE 6 it doesn't. What I basically want is the body of the page to have a 10pixel margin on the left and right of the page and 0 at the top and bottom, this bit I can do. I also want everything on the page to stretch from the end of each margin (so they basically start 10 pixels in from the left and 10 pixels in from the right), which I have got working fine. Now what I am trying to do is have one div layer stretching from the very left to the very right of the page and I am getting a bit stuck on it. What I have managed to do is set that div layer to be absolute positioning so I can use "left: 0px;" to get it all the way up against the left hand edge, but how can I get it right up against the left hand edge? I am sure if I set it to be the width of the page so for example if the page is 500 pixels wide and I use "width: 500px;" it would go from end to end, but what I want is it to go from end to end no matter what the width of the window is. For the rest of the layers that are not going from end to end but are staying within the body margins I used "width: 100%;" which works fine, but when I try it with the one that I want to go from end to end it only goes up to the body margin, but right to the end, well in IE it does anyway other browsers are fine with it. Does anyone know how to get around this? I have tried looking on the net but I can't find anything on it. All help will be greatly welcome. Thank you in advance, El Barto. I'm a novice with CSS and HTML so the following may seem elementary to most of you. I'm a retail vitamin store owner with a website, (URL address blocked: See forum rules) . We do very well with our store front and are getting better and better with our online discount vitamin store. Our web master has programmed our site so we can easily insert new products. This is done in the <body>. Recently I've wanted to add some spice with color and formatting . At first I was doing this with something like <FONT FACE="Verdana, Helvetica, Arial" size="4" color="006600">. But now as I get into CSS and double checking all code with W3.org, it doesn't like this approach. Now I'm trying <span id="enzymatic" class="prod_description"> in the <body> with span#enzymatic p { color: green; } span#enzymatic h4{ color: blue; } etc. in a CSS definition file. It all works well, but W3.org still doesn't like where I've inserted the code. If you go to our page: (URL address blocked: See forum rules)=country-life-seniority-multivitamin You will get among other "errors" the following message: <h4>Seniority ™ Multi-Vitamin Capsules </h4> The mentioned element is not allowed to appear in the context in which you've placed it; the other mentioned elements are the only ones that are both allowed there and can contain the element mentioned. This might mean that you need a containing element, or possibly that you've forgotten to close a previous element. One possible cause for this message is that you have attempted to put a block-level element (such as "<p>" or "<table>") inside an inline element (such as "<a>", "<span>", or "<font>"). Any hints as to what basic rules I'm breaking? Be kind. Many thanks, healthyphil Hi there, I am trying to define the body text for all my pages using this, but it is not recognising it: Code: body{ font-family: verdana; font-size: 11px; color: #000000; line-height: 150%; } Have I got something wrong here?! Please look at http://www.mts-diesel.com / index.php I have a 25px div (#topmargin) that I want flush against top of screen. I assigned padding & margin to both div & body elements but for some reason the I can see about 3px of the body bg above the div #topmargin. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Tom |
