CSS - Why Won't 'text-align' Work?
Hi,
The text in my navigation bar is slightly off-centre, even though I have applied the text-align:centre property in my style sheet. Is there anything obvious that would be throwing it off? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jimmy Here is my style sheet: body { padding:0px; margin:0px; background-color:#ffffff; background-image:none background-repeat:no-repeat; font-family:verdana, arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:11px; Basically I need to know how to center two divs on a page which themselves have float:left attribute. When I set text-align:center on the body a couple of other divs aligned perfectly so I did not have to worry about different res's. But I need these two divs (leftnav and content) next to each other and acheived this by setting the float:left attribute. The CSS code is below, I hope you can help, i have tried but these two divs in one outer div (without any float set) but didn't work. Code: body { font-family: "Lucida Sans"; font-size: 12px; margin: 0px 0px 10px; border-top: 0px none #000000; border-right: 0px none #000000; border-bottom: 5px none #000000; border-left: 0px none #000000; scrollbar-arrow-color: #D20000; scrollbar-3dlight-color: #4F4F82; scrollbar-darkshadow-color: #4F4F82; scrollbar-face-color: #f4f4f0; scrollbar-highlight-color: #FFFFFF; scrollbar-shadow-color: #d0d0d0; scrollbar-track-color: #ffffff; text-align: center; display: block; } .leftnav { float: left; color: #000000; font-size: 12px; font-family: "Trebuchet MS"; border-top: 1px solid #000000; border-right: 1px none #000000; border-bottom: 1px none #000000; border-left: 1px none #000000; padding: 0px; white-space: nowrap; width: 220px; margin: 10px 0px 0px 10px; clear: both; text-align: left; } .content { background-color: #FFFFFF; border-top-width: 1px; border-right-width: 1px; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-left-width: 1px; border-top-style: solid; border-right-style: solid; border-bottom-style: solid; border-left-style: solid; border-top-color: #000000; border-right-color: #000000; border-bottom-color: #000000; border-left-color: #000000; float: left; white-space: normal; margin-top: 10px; margin-left: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; font-family: "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 13px; padding-right: 10px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 10px; width: 1000px; margin-right: 0%; list-style-type: none; text-align: left; } Thanks very much. I've got this page here and for some reason, it works fine in Internet Explorer, but in Safari, everything is aligned to the left!? Which is strange, because the Glish tutorial I'm using works just fine in both IE and Safari. What have I done wrong in my code?? I have the following CSS: Code: span.title { {color:#c38ec7;text-decoration: underline;font-family: forte;font-variant:small-caps;font-weight:bold;font-size:165%} } ... it works fine but when I try and put 'text-align:center;' that attribute does not seem to work. Is there any way of doing this??? Thanks I have both Chinese characters and English characters in one paragraph, but they don't align to the bottom with the English characters appearing like . I have used 'vertical-align' to align the text, but not successful. Pls help. OK I have a layer that is described here : div#footer { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height:14; background-color: #EED; font: 10px Verdana, sans-serif;} In this layer I wish to have some text in the left of the bar and at the far right (align-right) some text also ... how would i achieve this ??? -Thanks- Hi there, ahhhh I have just decided to start using Firefox and now am rreworking my site. Here is my unformatted table... Code: <tr height="75"> <td><div align="right">12</div></td> <td><div style="vertical-align:top; text-align:right">13</div></td> <td>14</td> <td>15</td> <td>16</td> <td>17</td> <td>18</td> </tr> I want the numbers to be aligned top right, but if I put other data in there(currently there is none, but there will be), I'd like it to be aligned left. I tried using the vertical-align property in a div tag, but that didn't do anything... I can get it to align right with a div tag... sorry if it's such a stupid quesiton... Also, a side note... I thought that span allows you to align text as well using the style property, but that doesn't work at all (not even just to the right) OK, I have a few links stacked vertically and I'm trying to get them to align to the right. You can see the links here Please look at the sub navigation to the left of the big image. My CSS looks like this: Code: a.subnav{ font-family:arial,helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:11pt; color:#FFFFFF; line-height:24px; text-decoration:none; text-align:right; } what am I doing wrong? How can I get the text to align to the right? - thanks hi. i'm trying to have some text in a div, but also i want the text align to the bottom of the div. something like. but i don't know how... have a look at http://www.desorden.net/prueba.html any ideas? thanks in advance Thanks for taking the time to read my question. I have a tree menu on my page www.pierced.ca/pierced-events.htm that has long text in it. I have wrapped the text so that the page does not stretch and look bad. I am wondering how to move the wrapped text to the right so that it does not write over the dotted line. I would also like to extend the dotted line downward (I guess that would be another image) Thanks for your help. Since I have to do the CSS without a table where the 1st column is questionings and the 2nd column is form's textboxes & drop-down selection. So, how do I get them lined up for the make-believe columns?? What's the best way to accomplish this? page testimonials.css Main.CSS If you look at the page, you will see that I have the "signature" of the testimonial giver aligned right, but I would like the two p elements to be aligned along their left edge as well (but on the right side of the page, with everything flowing around any images)... I tried floating them right, which and clearing the floats, but then the testimonials don't flow around the images... can this be done without getting divitis? How can i use text-align with inline? So it doesn't line break after, but when you use display:inline with it, it takes away the text-ailgn. Style: Code: .results{text-align: right; display:inline;} h3{text-align: left; display:inline;} html Code: <H3>Audio</H3><p class="results">Displaying Results</p> How exactly can i vertically align text in css, i can't seem to find an easy way to do it, i basically want my text to be in the middle of a divs height, so much easier in tables heh. Tried padding but that then adds to the height, making it pointless for this use Please look at this page - http://www.tmhdesign2.com/home-payment-calculator.asp Why can I not justify the paragraph of text on this page for Firefox??? I was having some trouble centering my layout in Firefox. It looked fine in IE6 (yes... it's a pain to work in, but it's the nature of the beast when doing internal intranet stuff) when I simply used "text-align: center;" but the layout wouldn't center until I added "text-align: -moz-center;" under that (in the body style). Is this an acceptable way of doing things? Is this a flaw in Firefox or is it more likely that I'm not doing things right? (yes I know I haven't posted code, this was more a high level question of when/if "text-align: -moz-center;" should be used). I have a footer image on a site and I want to line up some of the text on the left and some of the text on the right. The relevant css footer code is this: Code: #footer { clear:both; background:url(images/footer.jpg); width:780px; height:71px; color:#ffffff; font-size:xx-small; } #footer .notover {padding-top:54px;} The xhtml is this: Code: <div id="footer"> <div class="notover">All this stuff is left aligned 54px from the top of the image.</div> </div> Now, how do I add some text on the same line as the class="notover" text that is right aligned? I thought it would be as simple as creating another div that specified text-align:right; but the text shows up right aligned and way below the footer image. Thanks in advance. I would like the align text next to the image and have it flow from the top down. Not adjacent then underneath it. HTML Source CSS Source Once you view the html file, I think you get a better picture of what I'm talking about. Hi all if you look here -> http://www.prxa.info/gol2/community.php to the right where it has status updates i wish the update itself to align to the top of the avatar images to the left of it? |
