CSS - Menu Alignment.. Desperately Need Help!!!
I inherited the template this website uses, and I don't have much choice about using it.. I would prefer to build the site from scratch, but the client is tying my hands.. I just need to make this work. Hoping the community can help.. Here's the site: http: // clients . overthehillweb . com/ progroom /
The menu right underneath the logo is driving me nuts.. I cannot get those darn tabs to flush to the left to save me, and I though I have been trying a lot of plausible and implausible things, but I can't make sense of the menu styles used in the bloody stylesheet to figure out how the heck to fix this.. I hope one of our resident CSS gurus can help me untangle this mystery.. PLEASE!!! Code: #top_nav { background: #3a88a9 url("../images/ezpages_bg.gif"); font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 1.15em; margin: 0em; /* padding: 0.5em;*/ height: 39px; } #tab_nav a { color: #ffffff; text-decoration: none; } #tab_nav li { float: left; background: url("../images/bg_tabs_left.gif") no-repeat 0 0; padding: 0 0 0 5px; border-right: 1px solid #3a88a9; } #tab_nav li a { display: block; background: url("../images/bg_tabs_right.gif") no-repeat right 0; padding: 10px 20px 10px 18px; } #tab_nav li:hover { background-position: left -40px; } #tab_nav li:hover a { background-position: right -40px; } #tab_nav #tab_active{ background-position: 0 -78px; } #tab_nav #tab_active a { background-position: right -78px; } #tab_nav li.home-link { padding: 0; } #tab_nav li.home-link a { display: block; background: url("../images/home_tab.gif") no-repeat left 0; padding: 0px 20px 10px 18px; height: 27px; width: 2px; } #tab_nav li.home-link:hover a { background-position: left -39px; } #login_logout_section, #login_logout_section a { font: normal 11px verdana, arial; color: #ffffff; padding: 11px 7px; } #login_logout_section a:hover { text-decoration: none; } .top-nav-right { background: url("../images/top_nav_right_bg.gif") right top; height: 39px; width: 6px; float: right; } .top-nav-left { background: url("../images/top_nav_left_bg.gif") left top; height: 39px; width: 6px; float: left; } Similar TutorialsMy site: http://www.shakingspears.blogspot.com has the appropriate white background with red border in IE. I'm trying to align the buttons on the bottom of the dark div on the top of the page. Its not working at all, and FF en IE are showing different stuff: So, in both browsers, I cant get it to work. I want the two buttons to be aligned on the bottom of the dark part, like tabs. Next to eachother. Any (bright) ideas? Thanks! Its driving me nuts! http://www.goonlinewebdesign.com.au/dear-mr-mechanic/demo15/test.php Hey, I have a drop down menu that when i view it in Internet Explorer is aligned fine but isnt working properly in firefox. I think the problem lies in the white spaces either side of the page. If the page fits the screen snug there isn't an alignment problem, this is better explained when viewing the site on different resolutions. I'm pretty sure the problem lies in the css but i don't know enough pinpoint it. I can't post the address on the forum because of the rules but its www northsidestageschool com (where spaces are dots). Sorry if this breaks rules but my problem really doesn't make any sense with out the link! Any ideas? Mike I am having trouble with my dropdown menu alignment. When you move over the menu heading, the dropdown appears down to the left instead of immediately under the heading. Help! My teacher has a very thick Russian accent and is very difficult to understand, and does not make himself particularly available away from class hours...so...I'm sort of stuck. I understand that this is an embarrassingly basic CSS I've got rigged up here, so I need no critiquing on it, though if you feel you must, go ahead. Anyway, I was finishing the thing up tonight and realized that I missed one of the requirements for this final project (sloppy handwriting =( ). My main question is this: On each page I have a series of thumbnails, and one larger image at left. I would like to (either with addition to the CSS, or with not too much extra addition to each of the thirty some pages) create a hover effect wherein ONLY the larger image at left will load a larger version of the image on mouseover. I found a few examples on CSS tutorial websites but have been unable to correctly apply it. I am really in a jam and would appreciate any help anyone could give me on this. Additionally, (I know this one is really pushing it) I was not able to resize images, as I am on a new machine and a tight budget, so couldn't afford a copy of photoshop. Most of the images are already resized to 600 x 800 (downloaded from my photobucket account onto the new machine after the old died) but a few of them are larger sizes...so on the mouseover, is there a way to constrain all images to their correct proportions, regardless of filesize? I think this might be an impossibility but I thought it was worth the time to ask anyway (e.g. 600 x 800 images that are constrained to a smaller size, will pop over on mouseover to full 600 x 800, while images that may exceed those dimensions would still on mouseover pop over at a maximum of 600 or 800, whichever side is the largest, and the smaller size whatever it should be proportionally)? I know this is really convoluted and probably sounds incredibly dumb, but most of us in the class have essentially self-taught ourselves, given how difficult our instructor is to follow in the classroom, so I've done everything on this project by trying to find examples in a pretty terrible text book. Any help would be hugely appreciated. I am pasting in the CSS sheet, as well as the code for an example page, so that someone might possibly be able to help me correct/add this. If you are able to help, please be as explicit and obvious as possible, because I am having a hard time working this out on my own. Again, I'm desperate, and would be super super grateful for any help/pity any of you might toss my way. Thanks. On this page: http://www.prioritypie.f2s.com/tremaer/_location/location.htm I have a rollover menu (courtesy of Bon Rouge's tutorial) that nicely runs in a line when viewed in FF, but in IE it reverts to a vertical list. Is there a way to stop this? And why doesn't the background for the containing div show up in FF when it does in IE? I had hoped a glass of red wine would help.... Hi. Three issues with this menu - I've been trying to get a horizontal hover/nested list to work where the submenus are displayed inline underneath the main menu. 1. I've got the arrangement fairly close in FF, but in IE the top level items are jumping around all over the place on hover. 2. The javascript came from alsacreations, and seems to work pretty easily, but the submenus fail to disappear on rollOut unless you are going to another of the menu items. Any ideas? 3. Do you think there is anyway of leaving the top level links in their "active/hover" state when the mouse has moved to the submenus? So the coloured background that appears on hover stays there whilst hovering over the submenus? I've isolated the xhtml, styles and script into a page (it's a rework of a current page and is pretty incomprehensible in-situ!) at http://www.prioritypie.f2s.com/KSAV6/menuTest.html. Cheers for any advice. And I forgot to ask what the issue is with IE and transparent borders - they seem to appear black and of variable width! Following sample is from http://www.code-couch.com/jeff/snippets/general/tektips-navigation-example.html is what I am trying to reference to create a template. But how do I how keep the state of Menu on each requested page any help is appreciated. The following menu is saved in a separate jsp file i.e. navs.jsp. I include this navigation jsp file in all of my files. Initially the drop down looks like: Code: . Ask.Jeeves . [+] Google.com . [+] Yahoo.com Now clicking [+] in front of Google.com will look like. Code: . Ask.Jeeves . [-] Google.com . Google.co.ie . Google.co.ie . [+] Google.co.nz . [+] Yahoo.com Lets's say now if I click on Google.co.ie it takes me to sample.jsp and on this requested page (sample.jsp) how can I show the following menu hierarchy with Google.co.ie bold/underlined/colorchanged showing what menu content I clicked and am viewing the appropriate content i.e. Code: . Ask.Jeeves . [-] Google.com . Google.co.ie . Google.co.ie . [+] Google.co.nz . [+] Yahoo.com Same way clicking Google.com or Yahoo.com or Ask.Jeeves shows you the following hierarchy on the requested page with higlight/bold/colored the link we just selected. i.e. Code: . Ask.Jeeves . [+] Google.com . [+] Yahoo.com Any time clicking on the menu takes me to some page but on that page I want to show th hierarchy of the menu all the way to which is recently clicked with different color setting. With the website lady gone on a trip around the world for a year, I ended up being the person to attempt to modify our side menu to show an additional column of subcategories. I tinkered around with the code we had and I managed to get this to work in Firefox, however in IE7 the contents of the menu shift down a few pixels when you hover over a category. To view my problem, go to scannerparts.biz I've messed around with this for a few days and everything has become a big confusing mess so I have no choice but give in and ask for help. In IE it's almost there, except that the submenus will only appear one level deep. The menu is created with nested lists. The :hover functionality is simulated via JavaScript for IE 6. The IE developer toolbar shows the 3rd level menu is correctly being changed to display: block when its parent is hovered, and the border the dev toolbar draws even puts it in the correct place, it just doesn't actually appear. You can find the page he http://www.perceptes.com/topdog/ The CSS and JS (uses jQuery) can be found he http://www.perceptes.com/topdog/css/screen.css http://www.perceptes.com/topdog/css/ie.css (loaded with a conditional comment) http://www.perceptes.com/topdog/js/tdps.js http://www.perceptes.com/topdog/js/ie.js (loaded with a conditonal comment) For a specific example of what I'm talking about, try hovering over the second item, Filters & Parts. This will give you another level with four choices. Each of those also has child elements, but when hovered over, the next level doesn't appear. Try it in something other than IE 6 or 7 to see how it's supposed to look. Thanks very much in advance! Hello... Here is the site I'm having issues with ralphwall.com I'm noticing that it only happends in IE6 and not other browsers. It's shifting my float:right; column down the page. Here is the code in my css. RF Hi, I am trying to convert my table design to CSS and building the bare structure now but having some troubles with the alignment/layout. I want to move the left and right columns under the header div. but with float: left, they keep sticking to each other. here is the link: http://www.internationalnannies.com/test/ here is my CSS: Code: /* Structure setup */ #header { background-color: Aqua; } #body { background-color: grey; } #leftColumn { background-color: silver; float: left; width: 150px; position: relative; } #rightColumn { background-color: blue; float: left; width: auto; position: relative; } #footer { background-color: pink; clear: both; position: relative; } #photo { background-color: grey; margin-right: 5px; float: left; position: relative; } #headerRightContent { background-color: red; position: relative; float: left; } /* *********************************** */ and here is my html: Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head> <title>index</title> <style type="text/css"> @import "styles.css"; </style> </head> <body> <div id="header"> <div id="photo"><img src="images/noImage.gif" width="120" height="160" alt="noImage (1K)" /></div> <div id="headerRightContent">right content</div> </div> <div id="body"> <div id="leftColumn">left</div> <div id="rightColumn">right</div> </div> <div id="footer">footer</div> </body> </html> Can someone do a quick review of this and comment? Thanks, Edwinx I am working on a site that I have taken over development of and there is an alignment problem here any ideas on what the problem is or how to fix it? Thanks! I have two columns (menu and content) and would like them to be horizontally aligned to the center sensitive to the size of the browser and relative to each other. I have figured out how to do this with the content column (right one) but I'm having trouble doing this with the menu column. I would like it to be equally space relative to the placement of the content column. Any help would be appreciated.
