CSS - Borderless Images Showing A 1px Black Border On Top & Left Hand Sides
This problem just started happening, but frustratingly I can't remember what I was changing when it started happening.
The problem is that (almost) all the images on the site seem to be "bumped" 1px out of place, with a black border showing on the top and left hand sides of the images. This is not showing up with ALL images, however. I've embedded an image and you can see the effect on the logo, on the graphics in the body text, and on the sub-menu items (with the 'empty' box icons). However the effect does not occur on the menu items with the 'full' box icons. OK, apparently, I CAN'T EMBED AN IMAGE. Or a link to an image. Or a link to the site in question. SO I have no idea how I am actually supposed to get help for this problem. If someone can PSYCHICALLY DEDUCE what the problem might be without being able to view the site or an image of the problem, that'd be ACE! GAAAAH Alright, let's see if we can do this with JUST the CSS & HTML. Here is the CSS: Code: html { margin: 0; padding: 0; min-height: 100%; height: auto; } body { margin: 0; padding: 0; background-color: #FFFFFF; background-image:url('background-index.gif'); font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #666666; min-width: 900px; min-height: 100%; } img { border:0; } a:link { text-decoration: none; color: #0096db; } a:hover { text-decoration: underline; } a:visited { color: #00abc7; text-decoration: none; } #header { width:900px; height:80px; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-color: #0096db; } #logo { float:left; width:140px; margin:0; padding:0; } #head_nav { width:760px; position:relative; float: right; background-color: #ebf9ff; height: 80px; margin:0; padding:0; } #clear_both { clear:both; } #sidenav { float:left; width:100px; padding-left:10px; padding-top:0; margin-top:0; } #content_wrap { float:right; width:760px; background-color: #ebf9ff; background-image:url('content-background.gif'); } #content { float:left; width:500px; } #content h1, h2, h3, ul { padding-top: 15px; padding-left: 15px; } #content p { padding-left: 15px; } #focus_box { width:260px; float: right; margin-top:0; padding-top:0; } #focus_box h1 { padding-top:15px; } #focus_box p, h1, ul { padding-left:15px; } table.blue_highlight { border-bottom-width:1px; border-bottom-style:solid; border-bottom-color:#0096db; margin-left:15px; margin-right:15px; padding-top:15px; padding:0; margin:0; } #menu2 { float: left; width: 200px; } #main { float: right; } p { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 9pt; color: #666666; } ul { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 9pt; color: #666666; } h1 { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: 700; color: #0096db; } h2 { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; color:#666666; font-weight: bold; } a:link { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-decoration: none; color: ; } /*!!!!!!!!!!! Here is my CSS Code: ul#nav { height: 91px; width: 271px; margin:30 auto; background: url(images/logo.jpg) no-repeat; } Hi everyone, I am using nivo slider for a website that I'm building. I have created a gradient png for the background of the captions that will go over the slider images. Everything is working perfectly in ie9 and FF, however in ie8 and 7 all I get is a big black block where the gradient should be. The strange thing is that if I set a background color, then the gradient shows through. I have tried to make the background transparent with no luck at all. I have tried to set the background-color to transparent, and made it !important. I've also tried to use filters, nothing seems to work. The URL of the site is http://www.backupstorage.co.za/new/ . If anyone out there can help, I really would be incredibly grateful! the 2 pages below have some general layout css issues, like too much white space above the grey line AND though they both use the same right bar (I uses a PHP include) the format is different in both. The green line is the toughest...it won't extend the height of the page. Any ideas? I attached my style sheet as well. thanks. http://bowtree.org/latest/luminaries.php http://bowtree.org/latest/index.php hi everyone, i have been trying to align border left/right correctly in ff but it always crates gap on top and bottom (see screenshot) while on ie it works as supposed to (screenshot below) here is my code Code: #center_container{margin-left:118px;margin-top:24px;} #center_container_text{ width: 522px; border-left:1px solid #757d7b; border-right:1px solid #757d7b; } #banners{float:right;margin-top:20px;margin-bottom: 10px;width:100px;border: 1px solid black;} Code: <div id="center_container"> <div id="banners"> <p>a</p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p>asd</p> <p>asd</p> <p>as</p> <p>d</p> </div> <div><img src="images/box_header.gif" name="Categories_header" alt="" /></div> <div id="center_container_text"> <p>a</p> <p> </p> <p>asd</p> <p>asd</p> <p>as</p> <p>d</p> <p>asd</p> </div> <div><img src="images/box_bottom.gif" name="Categories_bottom" alt="" /></div> </div> thx. hi, i have created a simple css layout and its displaying correctly in google chrome, firefox, IE 6 and IE 7. However, IE 8 is covering the 1px border on the left of the containing div section with the image contained within the logo. I tried adding a 1px padding and margin which only served to push the image over the right hand side border in IE 8. Does anyone know whats causing this issue? Here is my code below. Thanks in advance. First, the HTML code:- Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC '-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN' 'http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd'> <html xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'> <head> <meta http-equiv='Content-Type' content='text/html; charset=iso-8859-1' /> <meta http-equiv='Content-Language' content='en-us' /> <link rel='stylesheet' type='text/css' href='css/default.css' /> </head> <body> <div id='page'> <div id='logo'> <img src='gfx/siteLogo.jpg' alt='Our Website Logo' /> </div> </div> </body> </html> Now the css file:- Code: /* page structure definitions */ html { font-size: 100%; } body { margin: 0; padding: 0; /* 20px */ padding-top: 1.25em; padding-bottom: 1.25em; text-align: center; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; background-color: white; /* 16px */ font-size: 1em; } #page { margin: 0; padding: 0; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; /* 900px */ width: 56.25em; /* 1px */ border: solid black 0.0625em; background-color: #ABBAD9; } #logo { margin: 0; padding: 0; /* 900px */ width: 56.25em; /* 150px */ height: 9.375em; } #logo img { margin: 0; padding: 0; /* 900px */ width: 56.25em; /* 150px */ height: 9.375em; } The image in the logo is 900px * 150px. Hi, Small problem he http://www.salewhale.com/z.html The box with the "What would you like to do?" is as follows: Code: <div class="boxarea"> <div class="boxarea_left"><b>What would you like to do?</b></div> <div class="boxarea_right"><a href='3_changepass.php'>Change Password</a></div> </div> The CSS for this is: Code: .boxarea { border: 1px solid #0000FF; background-color: #F5F5F5; padding: 2px 2px 2px 2px; } .boxarea_left { width: 140px; float: left; } .boxarea_right { width: 300px; } The point is to have the left column (boxarea_left) as 140px, so that the text wraps to the next line. Does anyone have any idea why the border box doesn't really take account of the new line? It simply ignores the divs and has a basic one line height. Of course, if I put a spacer within the boxarea div, the problem will be solved - but this leaves a gap at the bottom of the box - which I dont want. Is there a simpe fix? Thanks very much! I have defined my H2 as Code: #content h2 { font-size: 12px; color: #cc9966; text-transform: lowercase; font-style: normal; border-top-width: 1px; border-left-width: 1px; border-top-style: solid; border-left-style: solid; border-top-color: #cc9966; border-left-color: #cc9966; padding-left: 2px; padding-top: 2px; position: relative; } My bug is that the top border does not show at all, sometimes, in IE (sometimes it does, and mozilla seems to be fine always - of course). For example, see http://www.jaypaulstudio.com/about.html where it does not show and http://www.jaypaulstudio.com/gallery/beach/spink.html where it does show. Perhaps I've been looking at it too long, but the two occurrences look like they have the same css applied to them on both pages... Any ideas why this might be happening? Thanks for taking the time to look - Sarah Hey guys, I'm trying to make some CSS Buttons and I have a border that goes around them. For some reason the border-top isn't showing up in IE but works fine in FF. Are there any alternative methods of getting the same effect? I'm playing around with CSS and trying to learn it, but for some reason, I can't figure out why my code won't work. It's very simple, the site, and all I want to do right now is pub a small black border around my first DIV, "header-left" just for the heck of it. Code: <HTML> <HEAD> <TITLE>Andy/s</TITLE> <!--Style Sheet--> <STYLE type=text/css> header-left { border:1em solid; } </STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY> <DIV ID="header-left">Hi</DIV> </BODY> </HTML> I think it should work. I've tried em and px for the border and FireFox is still showing nothing. Any help? I'm open to anything! Hi there, Everyone: Firstly, I am a CSS noob... My site is: wwwDOTincenseforpeaceDOTcom (change the word DOT to a . please, new users are not allowed to post URLs on this forum. Thanks) I have a red background gif on my site. In firefox, it looks great. It DOESN'T show through the cell borders of the main table. However, it is showing through the cell borders of a table in Internet Explorer (at least IE 8, haven't checked with earlier versions of IE). Any idea on how to get it to stop showing through on IE? I have tabs across the top, same colors. The tabs have rounded top corners and no bottom border. The tabs are in a div above the box's div. I want to make the illusion that the tab is part of the box's border. I imagine this means that the tab will have to come down and cover that part of the box's border where they meet. I accomplished this in Firefox but in IE you can still see the line of the box's border. How can you adjust this to work in both browsers? Here's my example that works in FF but not IE: mcrackan.com/recipes/recipes.php I'm very new to css positioning so this might be an easy question... What I'm trying to do happens to position properly in IE6 and Firefox like so: http://whythrowchip.go.dyndns.org/atx1.jpg But it doesn't come out properly in IE 5.X , it looks like this: http://whythrowchip.go.dyndns.org/atx2.jpg It's know it's probably not an IE 5.X quirk, I guess I'm not supplying the right information to tell it to stay where I want it... So what's the best way with CSS to make a row of images that lines up side by side and won't break to the next line? Here is my code now as it stands (I put in three dots in a row in a couple places so there wouldn't be quite so much code pasted here): Code: from main page: <div id="wrapper"> <div id="top_banners"><img src="logo.jpg" width="391" height="106" border="0"><img........</div> <div id="top_menu">img src="menu1.jpg" width="150" height="20" border="0"><img.........</div> <div id="content"> <p>Some filler text in here</p> <p>Some filler text in here</p> </div> </div> entire external style sheet: body{ background-color:#666666; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-align: center; } #wrapper{ padding: 0; margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; background-color: #EAEAEA; border: 1px solid #000000; width: 750px; text-align:left; } #top_banners{ margin: 0; padding: 0px; height: 106px; } #top_menu{ margin: 0px; padding: 0px; height: 20px; } #content p{ font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; margin-left: 20px; } any help would be greatly appreciated ps:the buttons in the second row are rollover gif images done with Dreamweaver, not that that should matter I guess Hi, I'm attempting to apply a left and right image to a tab when hovered. The images aren't simply curved corners, but rather curved inwards corners at the top and outwards at the bottom. The tabs are all of different widths and I'd like to avoid using a class for each tab obviously. here's an image depicting what I mean: So the issue is essentially that I need the a:hover class to apply two background images - one on the left, one on the right - as one image can't deal with different sized tabs. I know that won't be possible until CSS3, but I know there must be a way to do this with today's standards. The image is of the tab on hover. Without hover, it's just the plain gray background to the left and right of it. There's probably a method for these sort of issues on A List Apart or something, but I can't find one. Anybody have anything on hand, or any suggestions? Your help is appreciated. Thanks in advance! |
