CSS - Help: Positioning / Floating/ Images Move When Browser Moves
Similar TutorialsHi Everyone, I have a problem trying to position a submit button on a search form. The button is an image saying "go" and I am trying to move the button down by a few pixels using CSS. Whenever I use margin-top:3px; the textfield is also moved down although I am using a class on the button of "goButton" (see code below). I want to be able to move the button only. CSS code: Code: #searchField {display:inline;} #goButton {display:inline; margin-top:3px;} .goButton {margin-top:3px;} HTML/PHP code: Code: $output = '<div id="searchField"><span class="white">Search</span><input name="searchword" id="mod_search_searchword" maxlength="20" alt="search" class="inputbox'. $moduleclass_sfx .'" type="text" size="'. $width .'" value="'. $text .'" onblur="if(this.value==\'\') this.value=\''. $text .'\';" onfocus="if(this.value==\''. $text .'\') this.value=\'\';" /></div>'; if ( $button ) { $button = '<div id="goButton"><A HREF="javascript:document.searchForm.submit()" onmouseover="document.searchForm.go_but.src=\'/silence/templates/rhuk_solarflare_ii/images/goOver.gif\'" onmouseout="document.searchForm.go_but.src=\'/silence/templates/rhuk_solarflare_ii/images/go.gif\'" onclick="return val_form_this_page()"> <IMG SRC="/silence/templates/rhuk_solarflare_ii/images/go.gif" WIDTH="19" HEIGHT="19" BORDER="0" ALT="Go" NAME="go_but" class="goButton"></A></div>'; Thanks. P.s. How do I post links to the site on here?...I tried but it removed the URL saying (URL address blocked: See forum rules) Hey, as always it seems to work normal with FF. But IE starts moving images when you go over it. link: http://www.net-force.com/hotest/a1.html any suggestions how to fix it so it displays properly in IE? thx! Bear with me please. I am brand new to html/CSS etc... I just cobbled together a page a few days ago using someone elses code as a reference, I hardly know what I did or how it works, but it works just like I want it to - Background centered and stationary (no scrolling with content), but the content does scroll, with NO horizontal scroll bar. You can view it he bit(dot)ly/rbsZsH - THIS IS WHAT I WANT MY OTHER PAGE TO DO Ok, so feeling smug, I tried to do another one like it, without the sidebar/header, etc... For the most part it works, EXCEPT - I have an unexpected horizontal scroll bar that goes about 50% across the browser and allows the user to pull the content off-center across the background. I have nearly pulled my hair out trying to fix it and put a hidden message under the content just for fun.. (make lemonade when you get lemons, right?) You can view second page he bit(dot)ly/qMbYl2 - THIS IS THE GOOFY PAGE The only real clue I have is that the first page is set to 780px wide and has this comment in the container div: /* using 20px less than a full 800px width allows for browser chrome and avoids a horizontal scroll bar */ My second page container div is set to 802px because I am using an image from Photoshop rather than a background color. Thank you if any of you can shed light on the situation. P.S. - I'm sure I've totally butchered the code, and you can assume when you answer that I can cut and paste but not really understand what you are saying. This is frusteratung me so much... yet again I'm back because IE does not respond properly. Here is the page: tri-m.com/index_jan_newFproduct.html Please don't tell me I should validate first because I know validating is not the problem here and I will be validating after I fix this. The problem is in the Join the Mailing List section. The image behind the form field moves when you restore down from being maximized and you resize the page up and down. In IE the image moves but in FF the image is static. The solution is probally quite simple but I'm so flustered right now that I'm not able to come up with the solution. If someone could help me that would be wonderful and greatly apperciated. - Jacenta In IE, this will produce the look that I'm looking for. The image and a couple of details are provided inside of a blue box. In FF, they overlap eachother. Not the text, just the image. How can I adjust my CSS? Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head> <title>Test</title> <style type="text/css"> <!-- .fieldset { border: #26a solid 1px; width: 85%; margin-bottom: 5px; padding: 10px; } --> </style> </head> <body> <div class="fieldset"> 1: dfas <br /> <hr /> <img src="../../imageApp/images/smallrear.JPG" width="160" height="120" border="0" align=left hspace="12"/> etwrThis is an edit </div> <div class="fieldset"> 2: <br /> <hr /> <img src="../../imageApp/images/small100_1737 (Small).JPG" width="89" height="120" border="0" align=right hspace="12"/> </div> </body> </html> I am at my wits end as I have tried and searched just about everywhere for some guidance. I'm currently changing my site to an entirely tableless markup. On the following page, I have an image floated right of my <ul> which is wrapped by a div with a dotted border on the top, right and bottom. When I float my image right, the bottom edge of my image runs below the bottom border of the div. This only happens in FF and NOT IE. Check out the following link: My problem Here is my xhtml markup: Code: <!-- Start Linear Template --> <div class="contain"> <img src="/images/linearthumb.png" class="templatethumb" alt="Linear Template" /> <p> Linear Template </p> <ul class="template"> <li><span class="rarr">→</span> Professional and sophisticated.</li> <li><span class="rarr">→</span> Drop-down navigation menu.</li> <li><span class="rarr">→</span> Information “boxed” for easy reading.</li> <li><span class="rarr">→</span> Background can be “watermarked” with <br /> your logo or any color you wish.</li> </ul> </div> <!-- End Linear Template --> And here is my css for the div and image (forgive the roughness of it): Code: div.contain { padding-right: 5px; margin-bottom: 10px; border-top: 2px white dotted; border-right: 2px white dotted; border-bottom: 2px white dotted; } img.templatethumb { float: right; width: 168px; height: 160px; border: 2px outset #808080; margin-top: 5px; margin-right: 100px; } Gah. Internet Explorer is doing mighty funky things with my webpage. http://www.maths.tcd.ie/~icecube The floating images in the main posts work fine from firefox, but in the IE that I checked them out on, there are just blank spaces where the images/comments/bored should be - but even then you can still right click on the space where the image should be to save it and stuff. Anyone have any help/suggestions? Hi, I have a series of divs, each of which contain some text and an image. The images are floated either left or write, so the text wraps around them. It works as intended in screen view, but when I try to print, the images lose their float in IE (the text no longer wraps around them). It works fine in FF. Any ideas? Thanks Hi everyone. I have a strange problem which get's on my nerves for a long time and it usually makes me keep on using tables instead of css. It has to do with floating images inside another div or td. I have, let's say, a td which contains 2 pictures. I want the first picture to be at the left side and the other one at the right leaving space in the middle. So I just have the following code: Code: <td class=top width="936" height="52"><img src="images/left.jpg" style={float:left;}><img src="images/right.jpg" style={float:right;}></td> I also have declared the following in the style definition: Code: td.top {background:url(images/back.jpg) repeat;padding:0;margin:0;} td.top img {padding:0;margin:0;} So I test my page and although it appears ok on firefox a strange thing happens on Explorer. Both pictures leave some blank space on their side just like if I had added 2-3 pixels of side margin. It is even more annoying that the float:left img leaves a space on it's left side and the float:right img on it's right one. Notice that the table has both cellpadding and cellspacing set to 0. Thank you in advance for your time. Hello I am very new to CSS. One of my problems is that my web experience is only in tools that generate the code. I"m needing what I"m told is a simple thing to do, but not finding it easy for me I tried to post with some links to my site, etc, but the rules won't let me post any links. I have posted in another CSS site, but fine it very inactive and not getting any help. What I'm trying to do All items below to make up the header of the site. A background graphic which fills across the screen, no matter the size of the window. I have this working, although if I shrink the window too far, it overwrites the graphic in item 2 below. A left justified logo graphic. Working fine. A Centered graphic. I have this showing, but it is not quite centered right, and it is a bit smaller than actual, and I cannot get it to space down a bit. (tried padding, does nothing. Trying margin spaces everything down, including item 1 above. A right justified graphic. This shows, but is VERY SMALL, much smaller than original graphic, and it does not right justify. NOTES The current code, below, is based on a tutorial I went through, using % for width. The idea being that if it is built based on percent of width, then whatever width of window, it would adjust. I used 900px for original calculations. I find that it only fills the window as if it is 900 px wide. So I redid the percentages based on 1500px. I've done lots of reading, Googling, and been trying all kinds of stuff and getting not too far with it. Tried px for width too, seems worse. Here is a print screen of the header: [IMG]URL[/IMG] Sigh...sorry...even img code has a url, and even though it showed in preview, I see it will not display it in actual message. The site I"m working on is shuttermaster.co (not com), where you can see what it looks like now. CSS Code Only including the code relevant to the header issue. I do have menu code in CSS, but it is not complete, and I'm not having problems with that. Code: #myHeader {width:auto;height:133px; background:url(/photos/i-QXfPgvM/0/S/i-QXfPgvM-S.jpg) repeat-x} #myLogo { float:left; width:10%; height:150px ; margin-left:2.22%; display:inline; background:url(/photos/i-sttGP6Z/1/O/i-sttGP6Z.png) no-repeat} #myConame { width: 15.33%; height:90px; margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto; background:url(/photos/i-T3ZjJ8R/2/Th/i-T3ZjJ8R-Th.png) no-repeat} #myBanner { float:right; width: 29.73%; height:150px; background:url(/photos/i-BkhSxLJ/1/Th/i-BkhSxLJ-Th.png) no-repeat} The HTML Code Code: <div id="myHeader"> <div id="myLogo"></div> <div id="myConame"></div> <div id="myBanner"></div> <div style="clear: both;"></div> <div class="menu"> <ul> <li><a href="http://shuttermaster.co">Home</a></li> <li><a href="#">Portfolio</a></li> <li><a class="drop" href="http://shuttermaster.co/galleries" >Galleries <!--[if gte IE 7]><!--></a><!--<![endif]--> <!--[if lte IE 6]><table><tr><td><![endif]--> <ul> <li><a href="http://rogerewingphotography.smugmug.com/Landscapes/Landscapes/19892237_mHBK84">Landscape</a></li> <li><a href="Link">Drop 2</a></li> <li><a href="Link">Drop 3</a></li> </ul> <!--[if lte IE 7]></td></tr></table></a><![endif]--> </li> <li><a href="#">About Me</a></li> <li><a href="#">Guestbook</a></li> </ul> </div> </div> <div style="clear: both;"></div> I hope I have been clear enough. Hoping someone can point me the right direction. Regards, and thanks.... Hi all, I have a webpage that creates a dynamic set of tables (2) based on information from MySQL. The problem is, I have a footer graphic that is positioned relative to the table depth (so it sits nicely underneath no matter how deep the table gets). On my pc and browser (IE 6.028) it works fine when the footer include sits just before the </div> statement for the content of the page. But on another pc, same IE version, the footer graphic aligns itself with the second table and overwrites it. I've tried all manner of things to get it to work, but no joy. Right now I have added another quick CSS class to hardcode it to a specific height. Is there anyone who can explain why 2 identical browsers display 2 different results (I have cleared the cache) Ben i current have the following css layout applies to a div on my webpage Code: #builds { position:relative; left:17px; padding-top: 125px; padding-bottom: 55px; } this gives me the crrect positioning in firefox and google chrome however when i try and load it in ie the positioning is totally wrong. i have tried using the Code: margin: 0px auto 0 auto; value as thi div is centerd within another however then this works in ie and not firefox or google chrome. does anyone have any ideas of anything that will work for all browsers? or even just ie, firefox and google chrome Regards, Jamie As a web designer I am usually able to debug any css issues myself (as it should be, lol). However, I have run into a problem with two browsers rendering differently that I cannot figure out. If you have a look at the following link in both chrome and safari, you will see the number of views is positioned differently in both. http://www.linkpast.com/profile/250/peterthomas/ Any idea as to what is causing this and how to fix? Hi everyone, I've been fixing my blog's CSS issues, and managed to figure out everything expect for 1 thing: If you re-size the browser's window or use CTRL+mouse scroll to zoom in/out, you will notice that the nav menu doesn't follow the rest of the layout, but gets positioned on its own somehow. URL : howtohollywoodvideo dot com Here's my CSS for the layout. Header Logo Nav Menu #header { background: url(images/header-bg.jpg) bottom left repeat-x; width: 100%; float: left; } #header-left { /* For the Logo */ width: 490px; float: left; padding: 5px 0 5px 0; #navigation { width: 100%; float: left; color: #fff font-color: #fff; font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana; } What is the solution for my problem? I tried position: properties, but nothing could make the menu get re-sized the same way as the rest of the layout. Hi Everyone I have created a design in CSS and HTML but it appears differently in all of the browsers that I have tested it on can anyone take a look and tell me where I am goin wrong? Best Justin Even though the text in the div is positioned where I want it to be in DW, it doesn't display correctly in the browser. What declarations do I need to write in my style sheet to make the boxes stay in their table cell? P.S.: I already searched the web for about 2 hours on this topic. I'm new to CSS layouts, and being a relic who was always happy using tables, it's causing me some headaches! My latest conundrum involves trying to align a row of text to the bottom of an otherwise empty div. Here is my attempt, using colors for illustration only. (This is of course only a simplified version of my design, so while the "outer" DIV might look superfluous it has to be there. In my real design it is wider and contains three DIVs side by side - "box3" being just one of them.) Code: <html> <head> <style type="text/css"> #outer { position: absolute; float: left; width: 228px; height: 196px; margin-top: 0px; } #box3 { float:left; width:228px; height:196px; background-color: green; text-align:right; display: table; #position: relative; overflow: hidden; font-weight:bold; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="outer"> <div id="box3"> <div style=" #position: absolute; #top: 50%;display: table-cell; "> <div style=" #position: relative; #top: -50%; background-color: yellow;"> <p style="bottom:0;right:0;position:absolute; background-color: red;"> some <i>text goes here</i> </p> </div> </div> </div> </div> </body> </html> It looks fine in Firefox and Chrome, even if I don't quite understand why the text is elevated slightly from the bottom - that's okay. But in Internet Explorer, the text is nearer the top, and squashed to the right-hand side so that it's forced to wrap onto multiple lines. The forum won't let me post an image so see if you can decipher this URL: ht tp :// i49 .tiny pic. com /j8znti.png Can anyone help me adjust the code so that it displays in IE the same way as in Firefox and Chrome? I'd really like to understand why it's so different and how to prevent a similar problem in future. Many thanks! |
