CSS - Content Being Shifted Down On The Page Issue

http://bradleyrose.net/WaterStreetRestaurant/pages/about_us.html The guy I'm building the site for says when he views the site, the pictures and copy in the 2 columns to the right of the navigation menu get pushed down to where the level of where the contact us button is. He is viewing the site on either IE6 or IE7 Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Similar TutorialsHi, I'm relatively new to CSS. I'm designing a site, using some .php pages. My problem: the .php pages display slightly differently than the .html pages, even though they use virtually the same CSS. for example, i have bio.html and landscape.php. you can find these at (URL address blocked: See forum rules)/landscape.php and (URL address blocked: See forum rules)/bio/bio.html if you look closely, the .html pages displays its content slightly to the right of the .php content. put another way, the .php content is displayed slightly to the left of the .html content. I can't figure out how the html and php pages will display exactly the same! landscape.php uses 3 CSS files: header.css, landscape.css, footer.css bio.html uses: header.css, bio.css, footer.css Has anyone seen .php pages displayed differently (or shifted horizontally) compared to .html pages? Thanks in advance! - tim Hi guys, sorry if its newbie question, don't work with CSS so long. I've just read a nice article about styling CSS forms (Fancy Form Design) and it looked really nice, so I tried to apply it immediately. However, some problems occured, things are never so easy I guess . First problems occurs with styling of group of form elements: they are dropped one line down (below its label, resp. legend) in IE 5.5/6.0 and also moved to the right (in IE 5.5-7.0) for some reason. Also, styling of fieldsets' legends works odd: first legend is styled differently than the others (one would guess that all of them will be styled in same way). Could you give me pls a little hint on these problems? Here's the test page with applied form styling: http://147.32.122.251/hsh2t/index.php. General CSS: http://147.32.122.251/hsh2t/forms.css IE (5.5-6.0) only CSS: http://147.32.122.251/hsh2t/forms-ie.css I've run into a brick wall with a problem I'm having regarding text content that's inside a DIV container. To help illustrate the problem I've simplified the code I'm actually working on so that it can be presented here. What's being done: There is a display div tag in which the text content. There is also a transparency layer within the container so I can have a semi-transparent background without having the text content suffer the same inherent transparency. That works fine. What's the problem: Well any text that's in that display div tag doesn't seem to be displaying any of the class formatting I'm putting on it. If I apply the formatting to the display div tag itself it shows. It also shows if I reformat the actual tags (like the <p>) but if I try to use span and apply a class to a specific portion or add a class to the <p> tag it doesn't show. Code sample is as follows: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" lang="en" xml:lang="en"> <head> <title>Test</title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> <style type="text/css"> <!-- html { min-height:100%; margin:0; padding:0; height:100%; border:0; } body { height:100%; min-height:100%; margin:0; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:10pt; background-color:#000077; background-attachment:scroll; background-image:url(../site/bkg.jpg); background-repeat:no-repeat; } /* Framing */ #screen{ margin:0; padding:0; border:1px solid #00ff00; position:absolute; left:705px; top:268px; width:149px; height:182px; background-color:#000000; } #logo{ margin:0; padding:0; border:1px solid #00ff00; position:absolute; left:156px; top:18px; width:503px; height:45px; background-color:#000000; } #display { position:relative; width:650px; height:auto; min-height:300px; margin-left:10px; margin-right:auto; margin-bottom:0; margin-top:160px; border:1px solid #00ff00; z-index:1; color:#00ff00; padding:5px; } #display .transparency { position:absolute; margin:-5px; width:100%; height:auto; min-height:100%; background-color:#000000; z-index:-1; opacity:0.75; filter:alpha(opacity=75; -moz-opacity:0.75; } .formatted { text-align:justify; text-indent:2em; } .yellow { color:#ffff00; } .white { color:#ffffff; } .yellowbold { color:#ffff00; font-weight:bold; } .whitebold { color:#ffffff; font-weight:bold; } --> </style> </head> <body> <div id="logo"></div> <div id="display"> <div class="transparency"></div> <p class="formatted">Something <span class="yellow">something</span> or <span class="white">something</span>.<span class="yellowbold">Something Else</span>. </div> <div id="screen"></div> </body> </html> Any assistance or words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. EDIT: From what I'm gathering it has something to do with the hierarchy revolving around Classes and ID Selectors. Apparently ID selectors take precedence over classes so placing a class on an element contained within the ID selector object doesn't show for some odd reason. What I'm trying to figure out is if it's possible to do at all or am I just shooting for the moon here? Seems to be a recurring theme today. I'm trying to skin osCommerce to match the site. If you go into the front page of the store you'll see the problem. All content is correctly centered in FF, but not in IE. I tried putting a "wrapper" div around all the content (starts immediately after body tag and ends immediately before endbody tag), and set its margins to 0 auto, but no luck. Code: #wrapper { width: 760px; margin: 0 auto; } Any ideas? Close this, wrong forum. Sorry! Hi all, How do you put the content div? at the top of a page's source code? I've never figured out how to do this and I'm very interested. Hey guys, My site looks fine in firefox but in IE6 it lowers the content section away from the page see the link. -ht tp://winuser.widget-it.co m/ Can anyone suggest away to fix this ? Thanks for your time, - sorry for posting the link showing is the best way of explaining the problem. If this is a problem please feel free to remove it. Hi to all. First off, thanks for reading my question. I appreciate any help or consideration anyone can give. I am developing a website for a singer friend, using joomla and a template I purchased. I have only been building websites for 9 months now, so please forgive my ignorance. The problem is that the content, navigation etc moves left or right, almost diagonally depending on the resolution of someones screen. This is noticeable to me as well, if I zoom in and out on my page. I have no idea what is going on at all. Could someone give me some pointers? Here is the site: fernyhillscomputers.com.au/fordham/ Thanks, Chris. How would i align all of the body content on a webpage to the right using CSS? Hi folks- This may be a bit off the wall, but what the heck... Is it possible to set up a portion of a document, a "region", if you will, that acts like an external file? I have an E-mailed news service page that's set up using CSS to look and act like a three-column frameset. All three windows can scroll and load independently. I'd like the user to be able to click on an icon in the left column and load data into the column next to it. The hitch is that since this is an E-mailed document, it would be good to have all necessary data self-contained, if possible, rather than accessible remotely via absolute URLs (to avoid having to make the subscriber go to a web site and enter a user name and password). I know that I can load external files into a given "column" by referincing an absolute URL, but does anyone know if it's possible to load only a portion of the current document? (as opposed to simply jumping within the document to a specific point, as with a "name" anchor? Thanks in advance. - Tom Tedeschi Hi all, this is my first post and hope I get help in a hear-tearing problem that I face at this link: (URL address blocked : See forum rules) ie show the complete page fine but firefox obscure the bottom content, no need for more explanation since it is obvious from looking at the page, I have the same problem when page content get much long as in the above link. any help would be greatly appreciated. sorry for my bad english i have a base page that i use for a multi-page site, but i'd like to be able to insert more and more content, and have the page size accordingly. i think the problem is that the content is technically floating...or something, it's a cold fusion search result in a cart. i don't know, i might be asking for a miracle here- if you have an idea, let me know. Hello - I'm having trouble with the layout of a site I'm working on. Here's the site in question: http://www.americanidiotsband.com/ If you look at it in anything up to 1024x768, it's fine. But if you go higher than that (say, 1280x1024 resolution), then the main (black) part of the page goes only as far down as the content that is filling it. What SHOULD happen is that the black background should span all the way to the bottom, no matter how much content is inside it... Here is a link to the stylesheet that I made up: http://www.americanidiotsband.com/styles.css I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, and I'm hoping that someone could help me correct this. Thanks in advance for any help that can be offered!... Hello all I have a page that uses css for the layout. The issue that I can not figure out how to fix is when someone re-sizes their browser the page content is all resized. How would I lock th positions of each span on the page so even if they resize (smaller) the browser the span's will stay where they are when the page is fully maximized on the users screen? I hope it is clear what I am asking. I tried puttin like a float tag but that does not work at all. Thanks all Jason hi, I am fairly new to css and working on a website with a complete css layout for the first time, one I got from dreamweaver. I thought things were going great because I did all my testing in Firefox (like a good boy) but then I tried to test it in Internet Explorer 6 and alot if not all of my webpages have the text positioned at the bottom instead of the top of a page. Bear with me please. I am brand new to html/CSS etc... I just cobbled together a page a few days ago using someone elses code as a reference, I hardly know what I did or how it works, but it works just like I want it to - Background centered and stationary (no scrolling with content), but the content does scroll, with NO horizontal scroll bar. You can view it he bit(dot)ly/rbsZsH - THIS IS WHAT I WANT MY OTHER PAGE TO DO Ok, so feeling smug, I tried to do another one like it, without the sidebar/header, etc... For the most part it works, EXCEPT - I have an unexpected horizontal scroll bar that goes about 50% across the browser and allows the user to pull the content off-center across the background. I have nearly pulled my hair out trying to fix it and put a hidden message under the content just for fun.. (make lemonade when you get lemons, right?) You can view second page he bit(dot)ly/qMbYl2 - THIS IS THE GOOFY PAGE The only real clue I have is that the first page is set to 780px wide and has this comment in the container div: /* using 20px less than a full 800px width allows for browser chrome and avoids a horizontal scroll bar */ My second page container div is set to 802px because I am using an image from Photoshop rather than a background color. Thank you if any of you can shed light on the situation. P.S. - I'm sure I've totally butchered the code, and you can assume when you answer that I can cut and paste but not really understand what you are saying. Hello everyone! my apologies if this is a dumb/old question - I did a search but didn't find anything like this... Question is, how can I make a page within an Iframe inherit the parent pages css? Reason is, I have a site with a css switcher (using php - a copy and paste job, still learning!) that uses iframes. Or would I be better ditching the iframes and using hidable DIV's? cheers guys! |
