CSS - Unwanted Item In Horizontal Navigation
I'm a CSS novice, struggling to understand the nuances of some open source CSS I'm using for a site.
The main horizontal navigation has an extra item at the end of the row and I can't figure out why. Can you help me get rid of it? Here is my include for the navigation:

Home

About

Ultreyas

Weekends

FAQs

Servant Community

Resources

Stay in Touch

Donate

Here is the CSS: /*----------------------------*/ /* 2.4 - Navigation - Level 2 */ /*----------------------------*/ .nav2 {clear: both; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; font-family: verdana, arial, sans serif; font-size: 1.0em;} .nav2 ul {float: left; width: 770px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border-top: solid 1px rgb(54,83,151); border-bottom: solid 1px rgb(54,83,151); background-color: rgb(64,134,204); font-weight: bold;} .nav2 li {display: inline; list-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;} .nav2 li a {display: block; float: left; margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px; padding: 5px 10px 5px 10px; border-right: solid 1px rgb(54,83,151); color: rgb(255,255,255); text-transform: uppercase; text-decoration: none; font-size: 100%;} .nav2 a:hover, .nav2 a.selected {color: rgb(50,50,50); text-decoration: none;} .buffer {clear: both; width: 770px; height: 30px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; background-color: rgb(255,255,255);} I'd like "Donate" to be the last item, but there is another empty box appearing to the right of it. Much obliged, Laurie Similar TutorialsEDIT: Realized this is not an HTML issue. If a mod could move this to the CSS forum I would appreciate it. Thanks Please take a look at this page: http://www.4xp.net/template2/ I cannot get the space under the horizontal nav bar to go away. It has to do with the image links, because if I remove then and put plain text in there, that space goes away. It only happens in IE, the space isnt there in FF. Here is my css PHP Code: body { margin-top: 5px; margin-bottom: 5px; background-image: url('images/bg.jpg'); } #header { width: 900px; height: 90px; padding: 0; margin: 0; text-align: left; background-image: url('images/header_bg.jpg'); } img { padding: 0; margin: 0; } #menu { border-top: 1px solid #003366; border-bottom: 1px solid #003366; width: 100%; height: 25px; background: url('images/menu_bg.jpg'); background-repeat: repeat-x; text-align: left; } .menulink { margin-left: 20px; height: 25px; } #page { width: 900px; border: 1px solid #000000; text-align: center; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; } #status { width: 900px; height: 25px; vertical-align: middle; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10px; color: #003333; margin: 0; padding: 0; border: 0; } Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks everyone! Is there any way to have horizontal list items automatically fill any given width? for example, If I have 5 list items, I can set each width to 20% and the list will fill the width of the container, but if I don't set a width, then they collapse to the left. the behavior I'm after is like a table. The 'old' way to create a horizontal list would be to create a table with one row and 5 cols. Setting the width of the table to 100% would make each cell 20% automatically. Any way to accomplish this in css without explicitly setting the width? I have a menu, click he http://progra.ro/demomenu/ This menu not appear correctly in Internet Explorer 6 due to "SPAN" element. Anyone know how to fix this problem leaving the span element intact in HTML ? All browser show the menu correctly, except IE6.Thanks! Hi everyone, I am trying to make a horizontal navigation near the top of my website. But I can't seem to make it center but AND horizontal, i've only been able to center it but not horizontal... or have it horizontal but not center. This is my CSS so far. Quote: ul#nav li { display:inline; margin: 0 auto; width: 100%; text-align:center; } ul#nav li a { display:block; height:48px; width:113px; background: transparent url(images/nav.png); margin: 0 auto; text-indent:-9009px; } ul#nav li a:hover {background-position:0 -48px} ul#nav li#photos a { width:139px; margin: 0 auto; background-position:-113px 0; } ul#nav li#photos a:hover {background-position:-113px -48px} My home link and photo link are currently centered and on top of each other in a vertical fashion with this code. Please help! I'm making a horizontal navigation menu using lists and CSS. It looks fine in IE, but in Mozilla, the double border on the bottom appears just beneath the top one, and the next line shows up after the unordered list. Hard to explain - you'd basically have to check it out for yourself: http://www.michaelaparicio.com/ Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. Regards, Mike Aparicio I have been searching on the level world wide web for a tutorial about how to get CSS down for a horizontal navigation bar that uses different images for each individual button's off and on states? Many of the tutorials I have found use some sort of background or two state images, and then write text on top the the images. What if the buttons are designed in a non-arial/verdana/times/san serif font? I assume it would be best to just use images for the nav bar, but then, how do I write the CSS for a nav bar that's using a specific image as it's off stage, and then switches to another image when you scroll over it? I'm trying to get my horizontal navigation to work for a PTA page I'm creating. New to CSS and I think I've got a bit of the gist of it... but I'm really struggling with this. I've mostly "found" the coding I needed and then modified it to suit my needs. As a designer, though, I still want it to look the way I want it to and I'm not quite able to accomplish that. Basically, I would like a drop down menu added to the navigation I've created here - lwptsa . org/newsite/ This is the solution I found - lwptsa . org/newsite/dropdown . html But I am unable to get the dark blue to continue to the end of the container. ** ACK, not allowed to post images. You can find the image I'm referring to he lwptsa . org/newsite/images/navigation . jpg I'd like to fix the left margin spacing and it's coloring (A), making the lines between the buttons/blocks white (B) and having the blue flush with the white containers above and below (A). I'd also like to keep the top lines between the drop-down menu (C) but remove it from the main menu/navigation (B). Hopefully this makes sense. My style sheets a No drop-down menu, but working spacing and white separating lines (id - navigation): lwptsa . org/newsite/ Code: body { margin: 20px; padding: 0; font: 100%/1.3 arial; font-size: medium; color: #000; background: #ccc; } h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 { margin: 0 0 1em; line-height: 1.1; } h2, h3 { color: #00693e; } h2 { font-size: 110%; } h3 { font-size: 90%; } h4 { font-size: 118.75%; } h5 { font-size: 112.5%; I'm trying to redesign the look and information of the PTA's website. a. Hi All, I have a new site and it has a bug that I don't know how to fix. The navigation and sub navigation is done with a list that is styled with CSS to be horizontal. I am not an expert at this, but learned it from a site, but unfortunately can't remember where The thing is, the site works most of the time. But when pages load slow, sometimes the list gets displayed as a normal vertical list and the entire "look" of the navigation is ruined. I'm sure I've done something wrong, but I don't know what. Are there any CSS experts here who can set me straight? The site is http://www.thehousebreakingbible.com/training/index.htm Thanks for your time, Dana I am trying to create a Horizontal Multilevel Drop Down Navigation Menu, but instead of the css creating text i would like them to be images and when you hover over the links they rollover into a new image. I would really like your help on this been trying to do it for weeks now!! Cheers Hi I am creating a navigation bar using unsorted list and CSS. I have given my CSS and HTML code here Code: #navcontainer { width: 200px; margin-top:150px; } #navcontainer ul#navlist { width:200px; clear:left; text-align:left; margin-left:0; padding-left:0; list-style:none; font-size: 12px; font-weight:bold; line-height: 14px; } #navcontainer ul#navlist li { margin-left:0; padding: 0px; display: block; list-style:none; border-bottom: 1px solid gray; } #navcontainer ul#navlist li.last { border-right: 0; background:none; } a.linkText { padding: 10px; display: block; color : #444444; font-family : arial; font-size : 11px; font-weight : bold; text-decoration : none; height:25px; } a.linkText:link { color : Aqua; /* you can define other styles if necessary */ } a.linkText:visited { color : Maroon; /* you can define other styles if necessary */ } a.linkText:hover { color : Blue; }

Item One

Item two

Item three

Item four

Item five

The problem is, when I select the next list item, previously selected list item should come to the original color. Is there any way I can achieve this? Your guidence will be appreciated. Many thanks Hi All, I am building a site that has the following structure for the navigation; Code:

home

about us

our services

international mail

worldwide courier

worldwide freight

storage

publishing services

request a quote

contact us

The main LI is horizontal, and the containing UL, LI is a vertical dropdown. The seperate CSS file does the image replacements on the and hides the text within the , usual stuff. The nav works great, with the graphic rollovers etc. The rollover, again, standard way of doing it, background: url(<FILE>) no-repeat top left; and the a:hover rollover is a background: bottom left;. Edit: Just noticed that I can't link to the full site that I have uploaded for preview. What I want to do, is when the user roll's over any of the items within the sub-navigation, it keeps the main Services navigation link rolled over also. The only way I could think of doing this, and relatively simply, would be to use JavaScript, but wanted to explore any other CSS ways of doing this. For example, is it possible to change a style of another class, from another? Your help would be much appreciated! Hi, everyone. Funny I've never run into this before, but I've got a div with a background colour applied, and within it there's an image I want to appear snug to the top, right where the bgcolour starts. Here's the html/css: Code:

I'm getting a bout 2px of space before the image starts; is the only way around this to use a negative margin-top, or am I missing some parameter in one of the styles? Thanks in advance! hello all, I have been working on a web site that is constructed 99% using divs and CSS. I have a unwanted space that is appearing in the main image in Internet Explorer on PC. However, do you see that space that is showing in between each
, between the T (elbow2.gif) image, its very unwanted. Code: /* -- FILE BROWSER -- */ #browseFiles { padding: 0 0 0 20px;/* 000pix handles indent */ } #browseFiles ul { font: 10px sans-serif; color: #000; list-style:none; margin: 0; padding: 0; } #browseFiles li { /*display:compact; height: 18px;*/ padding: 0; margin: 0; } #browseFiles .fileDiv { height: 18px; background: url(images/elbow2.gif) no-repeat scroll 0 0; } #browseFiles .fileLink { padding: 0 0 0 13px; margin: 3px 0 0 0; } #browseFiles .dir { list-style:none; font: bold 10px sans-serif; margin:0; padding:0; } #browseFiles .file { padding: 0 0 0 3px; margin:0; } Heres the html Code:

 <img class'fileIcon' src='images/file.gif' />

 <img class'fileIcon' src='images/file.gif' />

 <img class'fileIcon' src='images/file.gif' />

Thank you for the help in advanced. Hi everyone. I have a header image and directly below it the div that holds my navigation. In FF it works great, but in IE I get about a 5px space inbetween the header image and the navigation div. The navigation div is colored so it's really easy to tell where it stops and starts in IE. Here's my CSS code: Code: body { background-image: url(images/bgshadow.gif); background-repeat: repeat-y; background-position: 50% 0; text-align: center; margin: 0 0; padding: 0 0; } #content { width: 738px; margin-top: 0; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 0; margin-left: auto; padding: 0 0; vertical-align: top; } #header { width: 738px; margin: 0 0; padding: 0 0; } #nav { width: 738px; height: 25px; margin: 0 0; padding: 0 0; background-color: #86462F; vertical-align: top; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight: bold; font-size: 12px; color: #fff; } #nav ul { width: auto; float: right; margin: 5px 0 0 0; padding: 0 0; } #nav ul li { margin: 0 25px 0 0; padding: 0 0; list-style-type: none; display: inline; } and my markup: Code:

Home

Register

Go Play!

I've tested the white-space bug in windows IE (taking out all of the white-space in the markup) but that only had a marginal effect on the list. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks, -Brian Please look at http://certified.tmhdesign.com/know.asp in FF I have a div element with an id of "know" that is appearing under an h1 element with an id of know_header In Firefox there is an unwanted top margin on the div#know (or a bottom margin on the H1 element). I can't seem to understand why? T I have some body text on a site I am working on. On Firefox and Safari the text appears with an underline even though it isn't set in the CSS to have this line. Strangely it doesn't happen in Internet Explorer 6. Also, it only happens on one page of the site in Firefox and Safari. |
