CSS - Trouble Displaying Images In Ff, Works Great In Safari
Hi!
I am making an online store for a very important client of mine. I build a shopping sub-list which floats to the left of the main page... and it looks BEAUTIFUL in Safari. But the images are not displaying correctly in Firefox. I was hoping somebody could help me. Also, could somebody tell me how it looks on IE? I have a mac, and my client is probably using IE... so I can't see how it looks Anyway, the site is.... blocked and the CSS #shoppinglist1 li { float:right; list-style: none; display:block; } #shoppinglist1 a{ width:100px; height:20px; text-decoration:none; background-image:url(images/shoppingmenu-bgsmall.gif); background-repeat: repeat; background-position: center center; } #shoppinglist1 a:hover { width:100px; height:20px; text-decoration:none; background-image: url(images/shoppingmenu-hover.gif); background-position: center center; } #shoppinglist1 a:active { width:100px; height:20px; text-decoration:none; background-image: url(images/shoppingmenu-active.gif); background-position: center center; } and the HTML <div id="shoppinglist"> <img src="images/shoppingmenu_top.gif" style="margin: -15px auto;"/> <ul id="shoppinglist1"> <li><a href="#"><img src="images/shoppingmenu_03.gif" align="center" border="0"/></a></li> <li><a href="#"><img src="images/shoppingmenu_04.gif" align="center" border="0"/></a></li> <li><a href="#"><img src="images/shoppingmenu_05.gif" align="center" border="0"/></a></li> <li><a href="#"><img src="images/shoppingmenu_06.gif" align="center" border="0"/></a></li> <li><a href="#"><img src="images/shoppingmenu_07.gif" align="center" border="0"/></a></li> <li><a href="#"><img src="images/shoppingmenu_08.gif" align="center" border="0"/></a></li> <li><a href="#"><img src="images/shoppingmenu_09.gif" align="center" border="0"/></a></li> <li><a href="#"><img src="images/shoppingmenu_10.gif" align="center" border="0"/></a></li> <li><a href="#"><img src="images/shoppingmenu_11.gif" align="center" border="0"/></a></li> <li><a href="#"><img src="images/shoppingmenu_12.gif" align="center" border="0"/></a></li> <li><a href="#"><img src="images/shoppingmenu_13.gif" align="center" border="0"/></a></li> <li><a href="#"><img src="images/shoppingmenu_14.gif" align="center" border="0"/></a></li> </ul> <img src="images/shoppingmenu_bottom.gif" /> </div> Thank you so much for your help! Similar TutorialsPlease look at the menu on this page, http://www.dougswansonre.com/ In IE7 it looks perfect, in FF it looks terrible??? Check out this site (WIP)... the issue specifically is with the Screenshots table... Firefox displays exactly like I would expect it to, screenshots contained within a div, with overflow: auto... looks great in firefox, nicely aligned, no vert. scrollbar... perfect. Now look at it in IE... looks like it is automatically expanding to include ALL 10 screenshots, which stretches the whole page... I've done a little research on this, but I can't find a way to get IE to behave... tried word-wrap: break word (as suggested on another site), but this fails as I'm using images. What makes IE decide to expand the <div> tag automatically. Here's the code pertaining just to the screenshots section. Thanks. I tried to find this answer by doing a search, but maybe I'm asking the search engine wrong. I'm creating an online shopping environment for my cousin. It's mostly done, but...it isn't displaying right in Safari...and Netscape. But mostly I care about Safari. Here is the link: http://gregsgoods.com/seestore.php In IE7 is displays correctly. In Safari the second column or main section is displaying below the sidebar area. I'm not sure how to fix it. Here is the CSS code: Code: html {min-height: 100%;} * { margin: 0; padding: 0; } a { color: #005B9C; } a:hover { color: #0B2444 } img { border: 0; } body { background: #E2E7EF url(/gregsgoodbackground.gif) repeat-x left top; color: #ccc; font: normal 62.5% Tahoma,sans-serif; } p,ul {padding-bottom: 1.2em;} li {list-style: none;} h1 { font: normal 1.8em Tahoma,sans-serif; margin-bottom: 4px; color: #005B9C; margin: 0 0 7px 0; } h2 { font: normal 1.3em Tahoma,sans-serif; margin-bottom: 1px; color: #005B9C; margin: 0; } .clearer {clear: both;} .left {float: left;} .right {float: right;} .container { position: absolute; left:50px; top:188px; background-color: #FFF; font-size: 1.2em; margin: 0 auto; padding: 0 8px 8px; width: 780px; } .top { padding: 8px 8px 0; } .header { position: absolute; left:50px; top:10px; background-color: #fff; font-size: 1.2em; height: 173px; margin: 0 auto; padding: 8px 8px 5px; width: 780px; } .header .left, .header .right { background-color: #000033; color: #fff; color: #FFF; height: 163px; } .header .left { background: transparent url(/img/Top.jpg) top left repeat-x; border: 1px solid #7795BD; font: normal 2.8em "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; line-height: 163px; width: 777px; text-align: left; } .header .right div { padding-left: 16px; padding-top: 16px; font: normal 1.6em "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; } .navigation { background: #D9E1E5 url(/img/nav.jpg); border: 1px solid #7795BD; height: 23px; } .navigation a { background: transparent url(/img/nav.jpg) left top repeat-x; border-right: 1px solid #7795BD; color: #fff; display: block; float: left; font-size: 12px; font-family: Arial; font-weight: bold; line-height: 23px; text-decoration: none; padding: 0 18px; } .navigation a:hover { background: transparent url(/img/nav.jpg) left bottom; color: #f1f1f1; } .main { border-top: 8px solid #FFF; background: url(/img/bgmain.jpg) repeat-y; } .sidenav { float: left; margin: 5px; width: 195px; } .sidenav h2 { color: #333300; font-size: 1em; font-weight: bold; line-height: 30px; margin: 5; padding-left: 12px; } .sidenav ul { padding: 0; border-top: 1px solid #e4e4e4; } .sidenav li {border-bottom: 1px solid #e4e4e4;} .sidenav li a { font-size: 1.1em; color: #333300; display: block; padding: 8px 0 8px 5%; text-decoration: none; width: 95%; } .sidenav li a:hover { background-color: #ebebeb; color: #654; } /* content */ .content { float: right; margin: 5px; padding: 0 16px; width: 536px; } .content { color: #666; font-size: 1.0em; margin-bottom: 6px; } .content .imgright { padding: 5px; border: 1px solid #666; margin-left: 4px; float: right; } .footer { background: url(/img/bluefooter.jpg) repeat-x; color: #FFF; font: bold 1em sans-serif; line-height: 39px; text-align: center; } .footer a,.footer a:hover {color: #FFF;} I just finished an element for a redesign of my website. I open it in Firefox, working. I open it in Safari (for Windows), fine. I open it in IE, I almost cry. My entire page is screwed up! I can't tell if it's the floats, the margins, the lists (I think it's the lists). Anyways, does anyone know whats wrong so I could fix it? http://www.politinks.com/topbar Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! I have an issue with an image that just doesn't show up in IE6-8 no matter what I do. I even tried just putting in the url for the image and it still wouldn't show it. I took it into Photoshop to make sure it was properly saved as a jpeg and it is. The file validates (with some minor color warnings). I tried to post the url by putting url tags but that didnt work so here it is obscured mandp dot lamster dot org/contacts dot shtml and the photo alone is at mandp dot lamster dot org / images / MP65APhoto dot jpg Another issue with the url for the page is that I can't seem to get the width of the right pane smaller. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks/Hal I have a website (www.fullforcecreative.com) that displays properly on I.E. and Firefox. I just recently pulled it up in Google Chrome, and it appears no style sheets are being imported. I then thought "that is strange, but Safari is based on the same thing (kinda), so I'll load it in Safari." Same issue. No style sheets. Has anyone seen anything like this before? I link to one style sheet in the header. Code: <link rel="stylesheet" href="<?php bloginfo('stylesheet_url'); ?>" type="text/css; charset=utf-8" media="screen" /> This style sheet linked to from that line: Code: @charset "UTF-8"; @import url(yaml/core/base.css); @import url(css/navigation/nav_shinybuttons.css); @import url(css/screen/basemod.css); @import url(css/screen/content.css); @import url(yaml/print/print_003.css); All the other stylesheets open with the Code: @charset "UTF-8"; @media all { insert css here } The site is using YAML (http://www.yaml.de/en/) as a framework for the CSS. The only issue I could find relativly close to it was this: http://www.davidroessli.com/logs/2007/03/safari_utf8_rendering_glitch_f/ I made the change listed there (because the CSS stylesheets are in UTF-8), but it made no difference. Does anyone have any ideas? This is driving me up the wall. It does display properly in I.E. and firefox. Thanks, seth You'll have to bear with me on the CSS, the file is a mess. I couldn't get it to do what I want, so I had to copy the file from someplace else, so there's alot of code commented out. The HTML is much cleaner though! The issue is in the image above is that the 'Contact' and 'Back to Projects' images are too high in Safari. In IE and Firefox they're placed correctly. All the other images on the rest of the site line up fine, as you can see with the JW logo, Resume link, and even the bar across the screen All the images are in their own < li > (I think it's weird myself, but it works). And the placement is done in the CSS. Code: <li id="ResumeHigh"><a href="resume.asp" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('resume','','images/resume_rollover.gif',1)"><img src="images/resume.gif" name="resume" border="0" id="about" /></a></li> <li id="ContactHigh"><a href="contact.asp" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('contact','','images/contact_rollover.gif',1)"><img src="images/contact.gif" name="contact2" border="0" id="contact2" /></a></li> <li id="BackHigh"><a href="index.asp" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('Back','','images/back_to_proj_rollover.gif',1)"><img src="images/back_to_proj.gif" name="Back" width="141" height="9" border="0" id="Back" /></a></li> And the CSS Alignment: Code: #ResumeHigh {left:550px; top: 62px; width: 141px; height: 11px;} #ContactHigh {left:550px; top: 78px; width: 141px; height: 11px;} #BackHigh {left: 550px; top: 101px; width:141px; height:9px;} Full Pages: http://www.jerrywatersarchitect.com/sample/contact.asp http://www.jerrywatersarchitect.com/sample/jw2.css Any ideas whats causing the 'Contact' and 'Back to Projects' to be a few pixels too high? I appreciate any help you can provide. Can someone please explain this to me. Here is the HTML coding I'm using. <body> <div id="container"> <div id="content"> </div> </div> </body> When I use this CSS: #container { width: 100%; height: 100%; } #content { float: right; width: 80%; height:500px; background-color:#FFFF00; background-image:url(toprighttemple.gif); background-repeat:no-repeat; background-position:top left; } The image shows up just fine. BUT, If I move the background image lines (the last three lines in the content ID) then the image doesn't show up at all. I'm just trying to get a better understanding about how CSS works. It's hardly as straight forward as I had hoped >< Thanks all. Hello, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this problem I'm having with my navigation bar. I've Googled and tried every [seemingly] logical combination, but can't get it to work -- and it's driving me nuts! Basically, I have a div containing an unordered list and an image. The image is a non-semantic hack I've had to put in for the design, without making it massively complicated... Anyway, the problem is with the ul, which contains lis that are just images (tabs). Like so: Code: <div id="tabs"> <ul> <li><a href="..."><img src="..."></a></li> <li><a href="..."><img src="..."></a></li> [etc.] </ul> <img src="filler.png"> </div> Each image is a different width; and the above is simplified for clarity... Anyway, this works perfectly in Firefox, Opera and even IE. However, in Safari and Chrome, the lis have a few extra, blank pixels of padding on the right edge of the image; whereas I want all the images to butt-up against each other. My CSS is as follows: Code: #tabs { word-spacing: -4px; } #tabs ul { display: inline; list-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; } #tabs li { display: inline; } The word-spacing for the div removes the spacing you automatically get in Firefox/Opera/IE -- I found -4px was enough to remove the gap entirely -- but in Safari/Chrome, a gap remains. If you make the value even smaller (e.g. -5px, -60px, etc.) it makes no difference in any browser; if you make it bigger, then the gaps widen in all browsers. However, WebKit browsers always have that extra padding on the right edge. Any ideas on how to get rid of this?... I've tried "display: inline-block", "-webkit-border-horizontal-spacing" with various values, "white-space: nowrap"; even altering the HTML so that the images and lis have explicitly defined widths. Nothing works! Hey guys i have some image layout problems with my images on safari and firefox on Mac only. Firefox and safari on PC seem fine but its only happening on Mac. The positioning of the images have moved dramatically. Not sure how to fix it CSS is validated and so is xhtml strict Test Site I'm working on a new design, and it works in Firefox and Safari no problems - and in IE it works mostly with the exception of one thing. None of the background images load. I've tried in 5.5, 6, and 7 and in all 3 nothing loads. How can it load the backgrounds in FF but not in IE. Am I doing something wrong here? Does IE not support: background: #000 url("someimage.jpg") no-repeat; ??? Hi all. I've tried searching the net but every solution either isn't applicable or doesn't work. My problem is that all my CSS background images are not displaying at all in ie7. they are called in via link id. so: PHP Code: <a href="javascript:void(0)" id="cus" onClick="changeCus()"><img src="/images/space.gif" height="30" width="50" alt="" title="Customer Ratings" /></a> fairly simple stuff. the corresponding css is PHP Code: a#cus{background:url("../images/custM.png")no-repeat;left:-140px} I have treid changing the link as in ../../images... but that was dumb. Adding a background position. Adding display:inline. Adding display:block. Can anyone please aligten me as to why all my css images are failing. It works fine in FireFox. My doctype is set to strict. It is the correct path to the images. The images are on the server. Any help would be greatly apprcieated. I want to display a comment with a number of images to the right of it. e.g "Excellent" plus 5 stars next to it (note: images of stars) so i tried this: Code: <div id = "commentText"> Excellent </div> <div id = "star"> </div> <div id = "star"> </div> <div id = "star"> </div> <div id = "commentText"> Fantastic </div> <div id = "star"> </div> <div id = "star"> </div> <div id = "star"> </div> <div id = "star"> </div> css Code: #commentText { font-size: 100%; color: #000000; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight: normal; padding-left: 30px; } #star { display: inline; height: 24px; background-image: url(images/star.png); background-repeat: no-repeat; padding-left: 20px; } I currently have comment with 3 stars displayed underneath it - however they are only half being shown for some reason. Any help is appreciated to help me get the desired effect. Thanks! Hi, Here's my demo site: http://www.alpha-dreams.com/demo5/ Why is IE 7 off? I've looked everywhere. Do I need a stylesheet for IE 7? Thanks Alrighty, my friend made this menu: phreakyourgeek.com/tf2/original which looks great in Firefox/Opera. However, Internet Explorer absolutely rapes it and it comes out all whacked up. He gave me the task of redesigning it for IE. I am not a CSS whiz, but I made it this far: phreakyourgeek.com/tf2 which needs some help. -Background does not move when hovered over. -The menu is aligned along the left side, they need to align along the right CSS for my menu is embedded in the source, CSS for original is in phreakyourgeek.com/tf2/original/stylesheet.css Please help me make any adjustments to either of them; there must be a way to make the first IE compatible.
