CSS - Cache A Dynamicaly Generated Menu ( From Dir Structure)
Hi all,
I have created a tree menu that is dynamically loaded from the directory structure on my web server. Because it takes a while to load, I was wondering if there is any way to cache the menu so that the browser doesn't have to load it again and again. My idea is to cache it twice a day maybe (to keep up to date as it is accessing the report). Does any one know a way of doing it? Regards, Sameer. Similar TutorialsNot sure if this question should be in the CSS section: I'm working on a site which, on first load, seems to render some of the CSS before loading the rest of the site in. This has the effect that the font-sizes are really big for a second before resizing. I've also noticed that if the site is left untouched for a while and the page refreshed then the same thing happens. Can anyone elighten me as to why this might be happening? It's very frustrating. Thanks R Hi, I've just joined these forums as I have a very annoying problem. I have created a webpage which I have checked using the w3c validator - it is valid for XHTML 1.0 Transitional and Strict. It is a simple design; Header 3 Cols Footer It works perfectly in IE7, however in FireFox (2.0.0.14) I am getting some very strange behaviour. On the first, clean load (cache cleared) the page is rendered incorrectly - the Middle and Right columns being rendered below the Left Column. If you then click on the address bar and press enter (thus reloading the page from the cache) it is rendered perfectly. If I clear the cache, go to the address bar, and press enter again it renders incorrectly. Pressing F5 to refresh (ignoring the cache) also results in it being rendered incorrectly. Correct: URL Incorrect: URL I thought it might have been image dimensions not being set - so I went through and set all these to no avail. Thanks in advance, Dave. I am trying to create a table where I could toggle visibility of certain rows by style="display: block" and style="display: none" It works well in Internet Explorer. In Firefox the following table structure displays rows "First Name" and "Last Name" on left side. Why? I would like it positioned exactly above "State" row, like it is in IE. How do I do it? Code: <table width="100%"> <tr align="left" id="f_name_holder" style="display: block"><td width="30%" align="right">First Name:</td><td>Mike</td></tr> <tr align="left" id="l_name_holder" style="display: block"><td width="30%" align="right">Last Name:</td><td>Rourke</td></tr> <tr align="left"><td width="30%" align="right">State:</td><td>Alabama</td></tr> <tr><td width="30%"></td><td colspan="1"><input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit" /></td></tr> </table> Thank you. I want to make a seperate component with style sheets associated with it so I can change the look in the future. My intended goal is something that will look like a two column table with the contents of each column being aligned to the right, and left, respectively so they nearly meet in the middle. Text: SelectDropDown Text: AnotherDropDown More Text: AnotherDropDown Kind of like that, where the colons should be matching up, and the drop downs should begin at the same place. What would the div/span structure look like? For example if I want the component to be 400 pixels wide, and the two columns meet at the center. Thanks in advance. Hello, I have 3 type of h2 headers on my web site: 1 - Post titles on a blog (Ex: <h2>New documents available for download</h2>) 2 - Content section title (Ex: <h2>Contacts</h2>) 3 - Sidebar content section title (Ex: <h2>Publicity</h2>) I am trying to build my CSS to style the 3 different headers but I am having some problems. I could use: h2.Post, h2.Content and h2.Sidebar or: h2 (for maybe Post? This would be the base), h2.Content and h2.Sidebar or even: h2 (for Post), h2.Content for content and then h2.Sidebar to change Content class so it fits Sidebar. So a section in sidebar would be: <h2 class = "Content Sidebar">Publicity</h2> Could someone help me in deciding how should I structure my classes? Thank You, Miguel Hi, Im just starting another website and have coded the first page, ive run into a few problems on other projects later on indevelopment so would like it if someone could look over my code, let me know if there are sections that can be coded better? LINK HERE Also in FF it doesnt line up perfectly on the date, any ideas? Thanks in advance, Mike Hi, I have used the UL and LI elements to build a tree as follows: Code: <div class="tree"> <ul> <li> <span>One</span> <span class="controls"> <input type="radio" ... /> <input type="button" ... /> </span> <ul> <li> <span>Child of One</span> <span class="controls"> <input type="radio" ... /> <input type="button" ... /> </span> </li> </ul> </li> ... </ul> </div> The result of the above XHTML would be somethings as follows: Code: - One <Radio> <Button> - Child of One <Radio> Button> ... Now I want to try and get the following result through CSS: Code: - One <Radio> <Button> - Child of One <Radio> Button> - Another Child <Radio> Button> - Second Child <Radio> Button> - Two <Radio> Button> - Child of Two <Radio> Button> ... That is in other words I want to have still have elements indented for every child element but all the controls of the elements are under each other at the right side of the div element. Is this possible? If so are there any example I can use? I have wrapped the controls inside a span because I felt that this would help. However I do not know how I can change the width of each 'li' element depending on its position in the three! (unless I use javascript, which I am trying to avoid). Also I do not know if CSS wise this is the best way forward. Thanks for any suggestions. The important part is he Code: <html> <head> <style type="text/css"> div.r1 { background-color: #ccc; width: 400px; } div.r2 { background-color: #eee; width: 400px; } span.s1 { color: #700; width: 150px; border-right: 2px solid black; float: left; } span.s2 { color: #070; } div.sep {clear: both; } </style> </head> <body> <div class="r1"> <span class="s1"> Sometimes this stuff get's quite long. </span> <span class="s2"> And it is not a problem, if both columns are long.</span> </div> <div class="sep"></div> <div class="r2"> <span class="s1"> Now if... </span> <span class="s2"> ... only right column is long, the page looks a bit funky. </span> </div> <div class="sep"></div> <div class="r1"> <span class="s1"> If left is long, it looks ok in IE, but not Firefox. </span> <span class="s2"> And right is short.</span> </div> </body></html> I'd rather do this with tables, but that is not an option atm. Any helps? t.j I'm trying to get a dynamically populated logo to center in a div. I've found a solution which works in FF, IE7 and safari, but I've tried everything and I can get this to sit centered in IE6. The html looks like this: <div> <table width="100%" height="100%"> <tr> <td> <a href="/somelink/"> <img src="dynamicallyGeneratated.jpg"/> </a> </td> </tr> </table> </div> The URL is sportsmembership.com.au/boxhillhawksfc/ and the logo is in the top left corner The dtd is valid xhtml transitional, and IE6 is rendering in standards compliant mode. I've tried display block, and margin:0 auto on the image, and i've tried text-align center on the td, a and img tags, and I cannot get this to sit properly in ie6. The image vertically aligns correctly but always sits to the left of the div, no matter what text-alignment I give it. I can't find a way to center this with margins or padding because the image is dynamically called from a database, and can have different dimensions. Hi everyone, I have some text generated from my database as a menu and it automatically puts it in a list. I want it to go side by side so I can overlay it onto an image. My code that generates the text is: Code: <?php $sql = "SELECT * FROM cms_recent_news ORDER BY timestamp DESC LIMIT 5"; $result = mysql_query($sql) or print ("Can't select entries from table cms_recent_news.<br />" . $sql . "<br />" . mysql_error()); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { $date = date("l F d Y", $row['timestamp']); $title = stripslashes($row['title']); $entry = stripslashes($row['entry']); $id = $row['id']; if (strlen($entry) > 0) { $entry = substr($entry, 0, 0); $entry = "$entry<a href=\"journal_rn.php?id=" . $id . "\">$title</a>"; } ?> <?php echo $entry; ?><br /><br /> <?php } ?> Is there anyway for me to do this? Thanks in advance Following sample is from http://www.code-couch.com/jeff/snippets/general/tektips-navigation-example.html is what I am trying to reference to create a template. But how do I how keep the state of Menu on each requested page any help is appreciated. The following menu is saved in a separate jsp file i.e. navs.jsp. I include this navigation jsp file in all of my files. Initially the drop down looks like: Code: . Ask.Jeeves . [+] Google.com . [+] Yahoo.com Now clicking [+] in front of Google.com will look like. Code: . Ask.Jeeves . [-] Google.com . Google.co.ie . Google.co.ie . [+] Google.co.nz . [+] Yahoo.com Lets's say now if I click on Google.co.ie it takes me to sample.jsp and on this requested page (sample.jsp) how can I show the following menu hierarchy with Google.co.ie bold/underlined/colorchanged showing what menu content I clicked and am viewing the appropriate content i.e. Code: . Ask.Jeeves . [-] Google.com . Google.co.ie . Google.co.ie . [+] Google.co.nz . [+] Yahoo.com Same way clicking Google.com or Yahoo.com or Ask.Jeeves shows you the following hierarchy on the requested page with higlight/bold/colored the link we just selected. i.e. Code: . Ask.Jeeves . [+] Google.com . [+] Yahoo.com Any time clicking on the menu takes me to some page but on that page I want to show th hierarchy of the menu all the way to which is recently clicked with different color setting. Here is the source for the above: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" lang="en" xml:lang="en"> <head> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"/> <meta http-equiv="content-language" content="en"/> <title>Test Harness</title> <style type="text/css"> ul li ul {display:none;list-style-type: none;} #myNav li a:hover { color: blue; } #myNav li a:active { color: #FF0000; background: #FFFFFF; } #myNav { list-style-image: url(page.GIF); } </style> <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- function initNav() { var navObj = document.getElementById('myNav'); var ulCollection = navObj.getElementsByTagName('li'); for (var loop = 0; loop < ulCollection.length; loop++) { if(ulCollection[loop].getElementsByTagName('ul').length > 0) { /* we have an LI that contains a UL */ if (ulCollection[loop].getElementsByTagName('span').length > 0) { /* there is at least one SPAN tag present */ ulCollection[loop].getElementsByTagName('span')[0].innerHTML = "[<a href=\"javascript://\" onclick=\"this.innerHTML=this.innerHTML=='+'?'-':'+';temp=this.parentNode.parentNode.getElementsByTagName('ul')[0].style;temp.display=temp.display=='block'?'none':'block';\">+</a>] "; } } } } window.onload = initNav; //--> </script> </head> <body> <ul id="myNav"> <li><a href="http://www.askjeeves.com">Ask.Jeeves</a></li> <li><span></span><a href="http://www.google.com">Google.com</a> <ul> <li><a href="http://www.google.co.uk">Google.co.uk</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.google.co.ie">Google.co.ie</a></li> <li><span></span><a href="http://www.google.co.nz">Google.co.nz</a> <ul> <li>*3*</li> <li>*4*</li> </ul> </li> </ul> </li> <li><span></span><a href="http://www.yahoo.com">Yahoo.com</a> <ul> <li><a href="http://www.yahoo.co.uk">Yahoo.co.uk</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.yahoo.co.nz">Yahoo.co.nz</a></li> </ul> </li> </ul> </body> </html> Any help is really appreciated thanks. EDIT:: Simplier way to write the question ^.^ :: When I scroll off the menu/link onto the first link in the submenu it stays, but when I mvoe down to the next item in the submenu it disappears. (My drop down is vertically aligned on the left.) (bits of the code that relate to the menu) PHP Code: .btn1 { position: absolute; left: 165px; top: 200px; } .btn2 { position: absolute; left: 165px; top: 240px; } .btn3 { position: absolute; left: 165px; top: 280px; } .btn4 { position: absolute; left: 165px; top: 320px; } .btn5 { position: absolute; left: 165px; top: 360px; } .btn6 { position: absolute; left: 165px; top: 400px; } .btn7 { position: absolute; left: 165px; top: 440px; } .btn8 { position: absolute; left: 165px; top: 480px; } .link1 { position: absolute; left: auto; top: 240px; } .link2 { position: absolute; left: auto; top: 280px; } .link3 { position: absolute; left: auto; top: 320px; } .link4 { position: absolute; left: auto; top: 360px; } .link5 { position: absolute; left: auto; top: 400px; } .link6 { position: absolute; left: auto; top: 440px; } .link7 { position: absolute; left: auto; top: 480px; } .link8 { position: absolute; left: auto; top: 520px; } .link9 { position: absolute; left: auto; top: 560px; } #nav, #nav ul { padding: 0; margin: 0; list-style: none; } #nav a { display: block; width: 100px; } #nav li { width: 100px; } #nav li ul { position: absolute; width: 100px; left: -9999px; display: none; top: 0; z-index: 3; } #nav li:hover ul { display: block; left: 266px; z-index: 3; } #nav li:over ul { display: block; left: 266px; z-index: 3; } PHP Code: <ul id="nav"> <li><a href="HOBmain.htm"><img class="btn1" src="../mainbtn.gif" width="100" height="38" alt="MainBtn"></a></li> <li><a href="HOBmain.htm"><img class="btn2" src="../blogbtn.gif" width="100" height="38" alt="BlogBtn"></a> <ul> <li class="link1"><a href=""><img src="../mbtn.gif" alt="bMainBtn"></a></li> <li class="link2"><a href="#"><img src="../anmbtn.gif" alt="bAnimeBtn"></a></li> <li class="link3"><a href="#"><img src="../mgabtn.gif" alt="bMangaBtn"></a></li> <li class="link4"><a href="#"><img src="../gmebtn.gif" alt="bGameBtn"></a></li> <li class="link5"><a href="#"><img src="../bookbtn.gif" alt="bBookBtn"></a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="HOBmuse.htm"><img class="btn3" src="../musebtn.gif" width="100" height="38" alt="MuseBtn"></a> <ul> <li class="link2"><a href="HOBmuse.htm"><img src="../mbtn.gif" alt="mMainBtn"></a></li> <li class="link3"><a href="HOBmuse.htm"><img src="../pmbtn.gif" alt="mPoemBtn"></a></li> <li class="link4"><a href="HOBmuse.htm"><img src="../stybtn.gif" alt="mStoryBtn"></a></li> <li class="link5"><a href="HOBmuse.htm"><img src="../drmbtn.gif" alt="mDreamBtn"></a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="HOBodd.htm"><img class="btn4" src="../oddbtn.gif" width="100" height="38" alt="ComicBtn"></a> <ul> <li class="link3"><a href="HOBodd.htm"><img src="../mbtn.gif" alt="cMainBtn"></a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="HOBart.htm"><img class="btn5" src="../artbtn.gif" width="100" height="38" alt="ArtBtn"></a> <ul> <li class="link4"><a href="HOBart.htm"><img src="../mbtn.gif" alt="aMainBtn"></a></li> <li class="link5"><a href="HOBart.htm"><img src="../recbtn.gif" alt="aRecentBtn"></a></li> <li class="link6"><a href="HOBart.htm"><img src="../gaibtn.gif" alt="aGaiaBtn"></a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="HOBpic.htm"><img class="btn6" src="../picbtn.gif" width="100" height="38" alt="PicsBtn"></a> <ul> <li class="link5"><a href="HOBpic.htm"><img src="../mbtn.gif" alt="pMainBtn"></a></li> <li class="link6"><a href="HOBpic.htm"><img src="../recbtn.gif" alt="pRecentBtn"></a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="HOBfaq.htm"><img class="btn7" src="../faqbtn.gif" width="100" height="38" alt="FaqBtn"></a></li> <li><a href="HOBcon.htm"><img class="btn8" src="../contactbtn.gif" width="100" height="38" alt="ContactBtn"></a> </li> </ul> <script type="text/javascript" src="drop_down.js"></script> the "nav" is referring to a bit of js, and this is in my header.
