CSS - Formatting A Table Class Within A Table Id
Hi,
CSS whizz needed! I'm currently formatting a pre-determined HTML website using CSS. The website has been formatted with ID's for all tables and cells so I can specify which colour I'd like the background of the cells. The HTML is like this: Code: <table id="Description"> <tr><th class="title">Text</th></tr> <tr><td class="data"><div class="ggcode">Text</div></td></tr> </table> So I've been formatting it like this: Code: div#Main table#Description .title { border-color:#F0E68C; background-color:#F0E68C; } div#Main table#Description td.data { border-color:#F0E68C; background-color:#F0E68C; } However the last table is like this: Code: <table id="recentPosts"> <tr> <th class="title"> Recent Forum Posts </th> </tr> <tr> <td> <table class="data"> <tr> <th>Topic</th> <th>User</th> <th>Posted At</th> </tr> <tr> <td class="clickable forumTitle"><a href="link">Text></td> <td class="username">Text</td> <td class="date">Text12/04/2009 03:25 PM</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="clickable forumTitle"><a href="link">Text</a></td> <td class="username">Text</td> <td class="date">Text</td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> I'm able to format the cells within the <table id="recentPosts">, but I can't alter the cells within <table class="data"> - the table within the table. Any ideas how I would go about doing this? Thanks in advance Similar TutorialsThis appears to be strictly a formatting/style problem. I built a page using validated XHTML Strict and of course, it displays at it should in IE6: http://computerslayer1.spymac.com/formpics/IE---1.gif http://computerslayer1.spymac.com/formpics/IE---2.gif In Opera 8, it displays for the most part, but the table containing the AV/Periphrial radio buttons is shrunk and aligned to the left. Then, when one of the radio buttons are selected, it expands, and the right side of the table appears to be missing. http://computerslayer1.spymac.com/f...s/opera---1.gif http://computerslayer1.spymac.com/f...s/opera---2.gif Firefox 1.0.4 displays the tables in much the same was as opera, however, the right side is not missing, like in Opera 8. http://computerslayer1.spymac.com/f.../firefox--1.gif http://computerslayer1.spymac.com/f.../firefox--2.gif Any ideas, guys? I'm stuck. I have a table whose class is "dogs" How do I make all the <tr> elements within the table dogs have a certain style and not all the <tr> elements on the page? hi, and thank for the help in advance. i was wondering if it is possible to make a table cell's top border different thickness versus the sides and the bottom. I am displaying data from mySQL in a table. I am having a problem controlling the width of the columns. I am trying to replace code like this: <td width="100px><?php echo $row_rsList['taskpriority']; ?></td> with a css style <td id='pcol' ><?php echo $row_rsList['taskpriority']; ?></td> where td.pcol { width: 100; } But when I display the table it seems to disregard the width setting. The only other table formatting I ahve done so far is this: table { margin:0; padding:0; } table th { vertical-align: baseline; font-size: x-small; font-weight: bold; font-variant: small-caps; background: #CCCCCC; text-align: left; } Thoughts? Hi everyone! I'm taking my first CSS class and am running into some problems formatting a table. Specifically getting the rows to line up center along with the table headings. Well, except for the first one that should be left aligned. This is my validated CSS code: Code: .cell-alpha { font-size: 25px; background-image: url('headercellbackground.png'); color: #FF9933; width: 85%; } .cell-bravo { font-size: 25px; background-image: url('headercellbackground.png'); color: #FF9933; text-align: center; } tbody tr.odd { background-color:lightyellow; color: red; } tbody tr.even { background-color:red; color: white; } tbody tr.total { background-color:#6699FF; color: yellow; } table { table-layout: fixed; width: 700px; } How would I get each column centered since the data is entered in table row sections? Also, how to get all of the headings to line up baffle me. This is how it SHOULD look : URL And this is how its rendering with my CSS: table OK, I have a table I'd like to format with CSS. No problem. I have an external stylesheet that I link to for the rest of my site. I figured I'd add the CSS there and be good to go. Nope. When I link to the external stylesheet, everything else on my page is formatted correctly, except the table. It's like the table isn't grabbing the CSS information. (Example 1) When I take the CSS and put it in the header of the page, it works fine (same exact CSS, the only difference is where it's referenced). (Example 2) Hello - I am attempting to create a table of values that will have a relative style sheet that will contain a circle background image and number relative to said value. The numbers are only being added for during the creation of requirements to reference the values. The current procedure is to create the HTML, then take a screenshot of it, and manually in a photo editor (or visio) to go in and add the numbers. (So, if we have to add another value, I have to go back in and manually update the numbers and shift everything around). I figure this would be a MUCH better way, since I can just change the visibility on the style sheet and 'poof' the numbers are all gone :-), and when I need to do a screen shot, 'wham' their back again :-D. Here is an example of what I ideally want to achieve (created w/ Visio): Ideal Table Look However, here is what I am currently experiancing Here's the style sheet that I'm using Code: <style type="text/css"> div.number { visibility:visble; position: relative; width: 20px; height: 20px; z-index: 2; left: 5px; bottom: 35px; text-align: center; text-vertical-align: center; font-family: arial; font-size: 8pt; background-image: url(circle.gif); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position:0px -1px background:none; border-style:none; border-width:none; } </style> - All of the number/circles are shifted (which isn't a major problem I can probably solve the location issue myself), but the more important item that's giving me problems is the re-formatting of my Table. I would like to have the image/numbers 'hover' outside of the table cells. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance. Dave I have a unique problem: I am working inside of a content management system. This system uses tables EVERYWHERE. I need to place a simple border around the table (or tbody tag, which does define a style, but still no class, and covers the same area i'm looking to place the border around) defining the main body of the site. I cannot edit this table to use an id or a class, and unfortunately, unlike in the past, I cannot hijack this table's class because this is one where it is not defined. I have tried using Code: <style type="text/css"> tbody[style] { border: 1px solid #000000 !important; } </style> which works, but only in firefox, and not IE7, or Google Chrome. I'm guessing i've exhausted my options. But i'm not sure. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Also, I do hope i've explained what i'm trying to do clearly. I sometimes have a tendency to not clarify certain things as much as i should Trying to create a table psuedo class so that the specific attributes apply to the target table. Not sure if my syntax is correct. What I would like is to call the ID DataTable and have it cascade thru the tr, td...... Here are my tags: #DataTable { width:auto; border-collapse: collapse; border:1px solid #cccccc; border-spacing :20px;} #DataTable tr { border-spacing:20px;} #DataTable td.headerDescription{ width: 240px;} #DataTable td.fundCell { width: 240px; text-indent:40px;} #DataTable td.percentageCell { width: 60px; vertical-align:middle; text-align:center; border-right:1px solid #cccccc;} #DataTable td.seperator { border-top:1px solid #cccccc;} #DataTable td.assetCategory { width: 240px; text-indent:20px; vertical-align:middle;} #DataTable td.headerColumn { font-weight:bold ; width:40px; background-color:#F0F0F0 ; text-align :center;} #DataTable td.leftHeaderColumn { font-weight :bold ; width:40px; background-color:#E0E0E0 ; text-align :center ; border-left:1px solid #cccccc;} #DataTable td.assetClass { width: 240px; vertical-align:middle; font-weight :bold;} #DataTable td.performanceCell { width:60px; background-color:#E0E0E0 ; text-align :center ; vertical-align :middle;} Im using this to make an onscroll effect Code: table.left {border-collapse:collapse; float:left; margin-left:10px; margin-right:10px; background:#8f8f8f; padding:5px; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; text-decoration:none; } td {padding-right:10px; padding-left:10px; padding-top:8px; padding-bottom:8px;} td.bg:hover { background:url(images/yellow.png); padding-right:10px; padding-left:10px; padding-top:8px; padding-bottom:8px; } And the links don't format with the typical css markup Code: a:active {color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; text-decoration:none;} a:link {color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; text-decoration:none;} a:hover {color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; text-decoration:none;} Ive tried a couple different things like making td.bg:link, td.bg:active with the specifications->no luck Note:this is in IE Nevermind...I just figured it out..used a link class and set the visited attribute I have a textarea in a <td>which asks for users for some description. If users enter text and don't use any space or enter, the width of the table gets bigger and bigger and damages the pages design. What can I add (to td.fixed_width css for example )to make the line break after the width of the table is reached??? There is a solution that I put a div in td and then Code: #desc { width:"100%"; width::fixed; overflow:scroll;} but it is not exactly what I want hi every one... How can I display static headers in a table, so that headers remain visible while user scrolls the table body? This is not working in IE 7 any working example please 2. iam having a column which holds data around some 100 to 200 characters... by default i want to display some 50 characters and rest of the characters can be viewed by moving the column... if this is possible let me know how to do it with some sample code......i dont know much about CSS 3. One more problem iam facing is with the number of columns displayed in the table. I have to display around 15 to 20 columns in a table... with this 15 to 20 columns in a table, i can see scrollbar to the page ....but i dont want scrollbar to the page, instead i want want scroll bar to the table (so that it doesnot effect the design of the page) I need a fixed table width and height and also fixed column width and height..... Note: I dont mind if columns are not visible (thru scrool bar i should see the hide columns) Alright, this is probably a simple fix but I can not find the solution anywhere. I'm trying to highlight a table cell with a 2px solid red border when it is clicked. Is there a way to get this to happen with out changing the size of the cell? I hope this makes sense. Basically the cell is expanding by 1 px causing movement in the table. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, Not exactly sure where to post this question... but: I'm having a bit of trouble keeping a table at a fixed height. What I have is a Small 200x80px table above my an input form. As users type data into the input form, javascript code dynamically updates the contents of the table. I have the table width properly fixed, and the input fields have character limitations... however if a user inputs a lot of capital letters or other wide characters, the table automatically increases in height when the text wraps. It's pretty much necessary that the text wraps for the middle lines of the table, and on the other two lines I have used the javascript to remove wrapping, but I never want the table to grow longer than 80px no matter how much is typed in the fields. Is there a way that I can constrain the table height? Thanks in advance! I have a dynamic table that is in the cell of another table. For the life of me I cant get it to stick to the top of the cell. It wants to sit at the midline of it vertically. Thanks for reading. I'm trying to get a table inside another table which completely fills the parent table, but I cannot get it to work. The simple piece of code illustrates my problem. The red table is inside the blue table but does not cover the entire cell from top to bottom, but only the centre. I want this table to be streched. Obviously height: 100% doesn't work. Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"> <html> <body> <table> <tbody> <tr> <td> 1<br>2<br>3<br>4<br>5<br> </td> <td style="background: blue;"> <table style="height: 100%; background: red;"> <tbody> <tr> <td style="vertical-align: bottom"> Test </td> </tr> </tbody> </table> </td> </tr> </tbody> </table> </body> </html> hi all ! Im having a little bit of problem to make a header and the table body match in a correct way. My header is declared as <table align="center" class="style36" id="header"> and the CSS controlling it is Code: table.style36 { width: 1000px; vertical-align:middle; } .style36 td{ font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; vertical-align:middle; } And the table wich is declared as Code: <div class="scrollingDiv"> <table border="1" bordercolor="#000000" align="center" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" class="style13" id="tableBody" > And the CSS controlling it Code: div.scrollingDiv { height:420px; overflow:scroll; vertical-align:middle; width:1024px; } table.style13 { width: 1000px; vertical-align:middle; } /* Since the table has a class of style13, all td elements under that style can be selected as below... no need for more style definitions... */ .style13 td { vertical-align:middle; } .style13 th { vertical-align:middle; } My first idea was to declare a width for each td, something like: Code: <td width="30" bgcolor="#${color2}"><div align="center">${fila.sHoraent_Citas}</div></td> <td width="120" bgcolor="#${color2}"><div align="center"><a href="SvMedPro?boton=Info&idPaciente=${fila.idPaciente_Citas}">${fila.nom_Paciente}</a></div></td> AND match the header too, dosent seem to work, Im pretty new to web programing so any help is appreciated. Thanks! Hi all, what i want is to customise the borders of a table... i know that <div>'s can have custom borders but, for the way that the page works i used table tags <table>. (very little experience of using <div>) is there a way that css can manipulate the borders of a table? i tried using this css: .nmhead { border-color:#cccccc; border-top:border-top-style:none; border-left:border-left-style:none; border-right:border-right-style:double; border-bottom:border-bottom-width:5px; } and then in the table doing this: <td class='nmhead'> but it didnt work (attached is what i want it to look like) any ideas? I have a table with a specified background color (specified in CSS). The content part of the table (a cell) uses information from a downloaded script (wordpress.com) to load information. I want the table background to shine through everything. How can I accomplish this (I suspect it is in the script CSS, but I don't know what). URL The 'home' page is how I want it (basically that background effect). But the other pages come out funny with no background. Could someone solve this, or alternatively reccommend another way. hey, I got a table, every <td> in the table got the css class .regular. (<td class='regular'>). When the user moves their mouse over a row, that row should change color. This works with the following code: <tr onmouseover='this.className=\"hoverRow\"'> However, this only works if the td's in that row have no class set yet. And since all td's in my table have a class set allready, i cant use this. How can i overwrite the class of the td's by the class for the whole row? thanks in advance |
