CSS - Reset An Already Overridden Value To The Browser Default?
Hi all
Is there a way to set a value, that has been overridden by a specific value before, to the browser's default value again? Code: div.specific { font-size: 10px; } div.specific div.browser_default { font-size: default; } Is there anything like that? Thanks for help, Josh Similar Tutorialshttp://www.testers.info/webdesign/viva/aktuelles/ Both boxes in the centre are placed inside a table cell and are positioned via a <div> Tag using "position:relative": Code: .parent { left: auto; top: auto; position: relative; } basically everything works fine but when you're using Internet Explorer and resize the page vertically (horizontally works fine) the boxes behave like they're positioned static. What declarations do I need to write in my style sheet to make the boxes stay in their table cell? P.S.: I already searched the web for about 2 hours on this topic. Hi All. I am getting an extra space in FireFox. The space is fixed when I disable the 'Browser Default Styles' in FireFox. IE7 shows it OK. http://holzgreen.com/gap/ any comment is appreciated. sukruB I have a site www.carrie-anne.co.nz just refer to index.asp It has 3 css. I have a problem with main.css The problem is minor, but annoying. It is to do with the lhs menu called menucontainer. The menu is a list and the rules applied to it are quite specific. Below menucontainer is contactcontainer and that too has specific rules. What happens is that I am getting the menu text underlined when I state that decoration:none; On further testing by commenting out rules ( so they don't render ) I find that rules for contactcontainer are over-riding menucontainers. Can anyone shed any light? It is driving me spare.. Here is the css file. border-top: none; border-right: none; border-bottom: none; border-left: none; } Edit - The classes in my CSS and the classes required to sort the columns were in conflict; had to create custome th tags and what not to get it working, but it's all set now I'm testing out a javascript to sort table data; however it seems that the javascript is somehow interfering with my CSS. Basically it's turned the appearance of my table-headers so they look like href links and more noticeabe is that the height and width of the cells within the table have completely lost their designated size. I'd like to note that nowhere in the script can I find anything that specifies any of these things. Any thoughts on how to reestablish the settings of my internal CSS for the table that the script has visually hijacked? (I would like to note that the script works like a champ however). Here's what the code looks like at the begining of the table in question. PHP Code: <table width="564" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="sr_archiveborders"> <tr> <td colspan="5" align="left" valign="top"><table id="theTable" width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" rowstyle-alternative no-arrow"> <tr> <th class="sortable" width="100%" align="left" valign="top" class="sr_game_name">Game Name</th> <td align="left" valign="top" class="sr_archive_divider"><img src="../images/reviews/archive_dividers.gif" alt="divider" width="1" height="19" /></td> <th class="sortable" align="center" valign="top" class="sr_platform">Platform</th> <td align="left" valign="top" class="sr_archive_divider"><img src="../images/reviews/archive_dividers.gif" alt="divider" width="1" height="19" /></td> <td align="left" valign="top" class="sr_archive_divider"><img src="../images/reviews/archive_dividers.gif" alt="divider" width="1" height="19" /></td> <th class="sortable" align="center" valign="top" class="sr_date">Date</td> <td align="left" valign="top" class="sr_archive_divider"><img src="../images/reviews/archive_dividers.gif" alt="divider" width="1" height="19" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2" align="left" valign="middle" class="sr_gametd"><a href="#" class="sr_gametext">Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3</a></td> <td colspan="2" align="center" valign="middle" class="sr_platformtd">PS2</td> <td colspan="2" align="right" valign="middle" class="sr_datetd">Oct 29, 2004</td> </tr> .... .... .... class="sortable" is the required code for the TH tags so that they can be, you guessed it, sortable. class="sr_game_name" is an example of a class established by my CSS to format the colum titles (in this case the games' title). The background of the cells that contain the data are defined by class="sr_platformtd" where they make a call to an image file; their formatting is likewise getting screwed sideways PHP Code: .sr_platformtd { background-image: url(../images/reviews/archive_cellbg.gif); background-repeat: repeat-x; padding-top: 4px; padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 0px; border-left-width: 1px; border-left-style: solid; border-left-color: #989898; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; color: #000000; } Here's what the table looked like before the javascript. Here's what the table looked like after the javascript. And incase anyone's curious I've included the script itself. Thanks for your time everyone! I have two CSS reset files. One by: Erik Meyer The other by: Yahoo! Inc. All rights reserved. Code licensed under the BSD License Which is better? I tried to put links to them, but the forum is prohibiting me, so if anyone is familiar, then advise. Hi guys I've been trying the Eric Meyer's CSS Reset, and I think it is a good utility to add before starting a website http://meyerweb.com/eric/thoughts/2007/05/01/reset-reloaded/ The thing is that I've started a new layout, tableless, and has 8 or 9 main divs. Now, when I put some text or news (with title) I can't make a title bold using html, with <b>, for example I have to define a css class for it, etc. And when I remove the css reset classes, I see everything with the html tags applied, etc. and the layout screws a little bit, so: 1. Would you really recommend css resets ? 2. How could I fix the code so it renders the "html styles" ? Hope you've understood my question Thanks, Hi all I'm using a reset.css file that sets the text-align for TDs to left. Now I'm using an old CMS that displays an admin bar on top of the page, which is so very old that it is based on tables and uses HTML styles like align="center" to align its content. Naturally, those styles are now overriden globally by the reset.css file. Is there a way to reset this style to "undefined" or something for this admin table, so the browser listens to the HTML styles like align="center" again? Thanks for help Josh I've tried to insert a horizontal drop down CSS menu in my layout. However, the menu bar displays about 10 pixels lower in Firefox than it does in IE. <a href="(URL address blocked: See forum rules)">Link</a> I checked the margins, padding but can not seem to find a way to get the menu to display at the same position in both browsers. Any guidance is very appreciated. thanks. My first post.... ok... First I would like to say THANK YOU to anyone who has time to bestow some knowledge to me on what I am sure is a highly noob-esqe situation. I would also like to say that I have thoroughly search this and other forums for my issue, unfortunately I dont think I understand CSS or any web design enough to comprehend the solutions given. I think this may require someone with the knowledge I lack to come down to my level... if you can bend that low.. and walk me thru layman term-style. Again thanks in advance for anytime spent helping out. That being said I was recently trying to jazz up my website that is hosted by a certain music community. I do a decent amount of business thru this site so I wanted to step up the interface a little and get away from using the standard page setup they give you. They do offer the option to edit CSS to construct your own for a little more customization. I jumped in, and after a few days of struggling, I got it looking how I wanted it. I was excited until I realized it looked different on almost every computer i visited the site on. My Background is fine, but the links to paypal and other content is all over the place(e.g. song player, twitter link, buttons) I have tweaked and tweaked, but have not been able to remedy this apparently common problem due to my lack of knowledge and experience. My only hope is to post the coding here and have a Smart Guy/Girl guide me in the right direction. I hope Im not asking too much guys... here goes (I know I can post my url here, how can I redirect you guys to veiw my site??) /********* SoundClick CSS Template (based on custom version Mon, Sep 28 2009) ***********/ Quote: /* general */ body {background: url((MyBGJPEGforbackground)); margin:0px;} body, div,tr,td,select, textarea, input, option {font-family:Verdana; font-size:11px;} a, a:link, a:visited {color:white; text-decoration:none;} a:hover {color:#ff0000; text-decoration:underline;} .pageFooter {clear:both; color:gray; padding:1px 0px 50px 20px;} .infoBox {width:650px; margin:50px auto; background:white; color:black; border:silver solid 1px; padding:30px; font-size:14px;} /* hardly used, its for error messages to user */ .infoBox .quotes {margin:20px; border:#4b4b4b dashed 1px; font-style:italic; padding:10px; background:;} /* main containers */ .mainTable {background: url((MainTableBGPicWentHere)) ; color:#999999; width:750px; margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto; text-align:center;} .mainContent {background:url(/images/siteNav/transbgblocks/black/bg_0.png); color:#999999; width:725px; float:left; overflow:hidden; margin:0px 0px 20px 5px;} /* IE6 doesnt support our preferred overflow:visible */ /* left navigation */ .navigation {background:url(/images/siteNav/transbgblocks/black/bg_0.png); color:white; width:300px; float:left; overflow:hidden; margin:10px 0px 20px 0px;} .navigation a:link, .navigation a:visited {color:#999999;} .navigation a:hover {color:#ffffff;} .navigationDivider {height:6px; line-height:6px; border-bottom:#232323 dashed 1px; margin-bottom:6px;} /* general elements */ .headline {background:transparent; color:transparent; font-weight:bold; border-bottom:transparent dashed 0px; border-top:transparent solid 0px; padding:330px 1px 50px 50px;} .headlineBig {font-size:22px; font-weight:normal;} .headlineSuppl {float:right; margin:0px 0px 0px 100px; color:#666666; font-size:11px; font-weight:normal;} /* for text/links on the right side of main headline (e.g. song count on main page) */ .headlineSuppl a:link, .headlineSuppl a:visited {color:#666666; text-decoration:none;} .headlineSuppl a:hover {color:black; text-decoration:underline;} .pageturner {background:; color:#cccccc; border:#4b4b4b solid 1px; text-align:right; padding:10px; font-size:13px; font-weight:normal;} /* pages menu (previous, next..), e.g. on music page, message board */ .pageturner .nonactive {color:#666666;} .pageturner a:link, .pageturner a:visited {color:#cccccc; text-decoration:none;} .pageturner a:hover {color:#ff0000; text-decoration:underline;} .listedPicsBox {border:#4b4b4b solid 1px; width:114px; height:160px; overflow:hidden; padding:2px 1px 4px 1px; margin:0px 4px 10px 4px; float:left; font-size:11px; text-align:center;} .listedPics {width:110px; height:125px; background-position: center center; background-repeat: no-repeat; margin:2px 0px 4px 0px; overflow:hidden} .breaker {height:1px; line-height:1px; clear:both} /* general color and font assets */ .color_supplemental {color:#666666;} /* used e.g. for song pages comments count */ .alternateBG0 {background:none;} /* used as background colors for comments */ .alternateBG1 {background:none;} /* alternate color */ /* main page (the default entry page) */ .mainContent .contHeadline {clear:left; font-size:16px; color:#cccccc; padding:1px 0px 2px 20px;} /* interview questions */ .mainContent .contText {clear:left; padding-left:15px;} .mainContent .contInterview {clear:left; padding-left:30px;} .mainContent .newsBox {clear:both; background:transparent; color:white; border:transparent solid 0px; margin:6px 20px 0px 20px; padding:100px;} /* main page: video box (different from video page) */ .videoBox_mainPage {padding:5px; margin:0px 100px 20px 100px;} .videoBox_mainPage .video {padding:5px; margin-bottom:10px;} .videoBox_mainPage .title {font-size:15px; text-align:center; margin-bottom:3px;} .videoBox_mainPage .shareLinks {float:right; padding:2px; border-bottom:#4b4b4b dashed 1px;} .videoBox_mainPage .labels {color:#666666; width:100px; padding-right:20px; text-align:right; float:left;} .videoBox_mainPage .info {padding-left:120px;} .videoBox_mainPage a:link, .videoBox_mainPage a:visited {font-size:13px; font-weight:normal; text-decoration:none;} .videoBox_mainPage a:hover {text-decoration:underline;} /* main page: upcoming shows */ .liveshowsBox {background:#cccccc; color:#000000; width:300px; margin:15px 2px 15px 10px; float:right; clear:right;} .liveshowsItems {padding:4px 0px 0px 0px; font-size:11px; clear:both;} .liveshowsBox a:link, .liveshowsBox a:visited {color:#000000; text-decoration:none;} .liveshowsBox a:hover {color:#666666; text-decoration:underline; cursorointer;} /* main page: standard song box on artist page (only this song box or the embedded player is used. text-transform:none; My question is why would I declare them (above) ? Is it not assumed that unless I need something like text-transform:lowercase; I should not declare text-transform:none; ...this just add up more unnecessary lines of code. What are the default properties of selectors? if not declared would it be safe to asumme that those defaul to 0, none, etc depending of the selectors? tahnks Hey all, I'm developing an app for a client, and I've implemented quite a bit of it already, and it includes CSS. Code: <style> td { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; color: #000000; text-decoration: none; } </style> As you all might know, this changes all <td> tags into this particular style. Is there a class that I can include that contains NO properties (default)? I'm not even sure if it's possible. I just don't want to go back and add class tags everywhere. I would like to set my site so that any text not given a specific class id for CSS will appear as a certain font. can I do this, and if so, how? thanks. Hi I'm using a css file for the layout of my website. But I'd like to define the default font size but I can't! I mean the size of the font that's under no special style. I think it's something like: Code: .body { font-size: 10px; } Or similar (instead of 10px, small)... anybody knows exactly hoy can I do it? I have a style.css file included on all pages i want to sent default font and size, for all the text where i haven't already set something Hi, First post on here! ...I have a problem with the default margin in IE being 1px less than Firefox. I've stripped my CSS down to be as naked as possible! It's quite frustrating as I'm quite experienced with CSS, I guess the small silly things do things like this when you've not been CSS'n for a few months! HTML:- Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> <title>Untitled Document</title> <link rel="stylesheet" href="style.css" type="text/css" /> </head> <body> test </body> </html> CSS:- Code: * { margin: 0; padding: 0; } I really like this idea: http://37signals.com/svn/archives2/css_tip_create_a_default_with_special_cases.php Unfortunately for the life of me i don't understand why this technique doesn't seem to work in InternetExplorer. It seems to work for only the class defined in your css file first. Can someone shed some light on this? I have been going through the tutorials and forums learning CSS. Everything works and makes sense until I get to the lesson for setting up a div box. For some reason I am missing something here. None of the lessons or forums even address or talk about how to connect or input the external div CSS into the web page. They only show the external CSS code or internal CSS code. They never show what is required in the HTML to pull in the external div CSS. Even when I copy and paste the code from the different lessons I can not get a div box unless I put it in-line in the HTML code with a <style> tag, which defeats the concept of using an external CSS for the div box. How do I link an external CSS div.box to the default.htm web page? What coding is required in the external CSS and in the default.htm HTML to have the div.box brought into the web page? Does the div.box code have to have its own .css file to work? How do I get the external CSS code for the div input to the HTML? Thanks Hi, Not sure if this topic is ok if someone can nail this down here, but I have a question. How good or bad is it to set all the value to zero? Like Code: blockquote, body, dd, div, dt, fieldset, form, h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, input, li, ol, p, pre, textarea, th, td, ul{ margin:0 0 0 0; padding:0 0 0 0; } in front of the rest of styles. What about the other tag's, how to zero them out? Or should I enter the CSS default value's? CSS 2 and CSS 2.1 are different with some default value's. How good is this for all browsers in this universe? First I want to call it resetting them to defaults, but thats not the right word I think. Each browser has his own start ( default ) values. And setting them to a defined startvalue is not really resetting, but thats just word nickpicking. Also what's more save Code: margin:0 0 0 0; padding:0 0 0 0; or Code: margin:0; padding:0; is it 100% sure that the latter one overrides all the margin-lefts:10px ( thinking about cascading )? Some comments? I'm using an external style sheet and a Drupal site. I am pretty much of a CSS novice. No matter what I do, the default bullet is displaying. Sometimes, in the CSS stylesheet, I can have a graphic show up, but the regular bullet is showing as well. I want to make a separate bullet that I can use just on certain pages. It's on the home page of invisibleillnessdocfinder dot com I don't see anywhere to upload the style sheet to show the code. There is a template, so even though I'm putting "List-style=none" the default tiny bullet shows up. I'll be glad to email the stylesheet to anyone who can help. Thanks, Susan hi.. i need to change the height of drop down box, if i change that using style means getting in firefox but not in IE.. IE taking some default height... need to avoid tht.. help me out guys.. its very urgent... pls... |
