CSS - Css Layout Help Please! (i Officially Hate Css Lol)
I am trying to do a layout thats dynamic for different screen sizes in height. So I have a header at 120px high, footer at 40px high and I want the middle part 100% high.
Can anyone help please?? I used a css generator now trying to get the 100% height going and its not working . Thanks http://stealaz.myvnc.com/438335.htm http://stealaz.myvnc.com/438335.css Similar TutorialsQuote: Alright for some reason this wont work in IE. http://65.26.50.204/ec/index.php?page=1 First off the paragraph isnt moving over 8px like its supposed to, making it appear on the edge of the background in the transitional background. Second off the div's are displaying on 2 diffrent lines... they are supposed to function like table cells. The first problem appears in firefox every 1 out of 10 pageloads, for some reason. Which is bs, how is it rendering it diffrent when its the same exact data? Thats not even possible, the computer cant make its own descisions and its following the same rendering process!!! What the hell is it doing? This is really starting to piss me the hell off. I would really appreciate some help. Well I figured it out, after removing some things, which is gonna require a lot of changing in my sites structure, but oh well. I will move onto 3 other issues. 1. The bottom bar he http://65.26.50.204/ec/index.php?page=1 appears on 2 lines instead of 1, in IE only, but in FF it looks fine. 2. I would like the layouts body background to be "100%", how do I achieve that? 3. I have heard my doctype should not be HTML 4.01 Transitional (because of transitional), and I have absoulutely no idea about what doctypes to use, and where the file is located, so what should I use? (I have never used doctypes in any of my past codings, this is a first) Hi there all, Have been having a little look around and this look slike a great place o get some answers to a few design problems I have at the moment. I am in the process of updating a site and completely revamping it, from the original that I designed at lhdesignz.co.uk I have placed the beggining of my new design (only just started) on another site for testing purposes this is: webwizedezignz.co.uk My problem is this, Firefox, IE7 etc look fine but as soon as you load up in IE6 the design goes all to hell! I have had a read of some of the other posts here and they do give me some ideas but I thought it would be best just to let people see exactly what I am talking about. Hope you are able to help webwize Man i am working an an all new CSS theme and it was all going well intel i seen a bug. It only pops up in ie, the menu gets cut off 10%! If i resize the code it appears larger in firefox,opera,+ but looks ok in ie... I don't want to resize it just for IE witch only 2% of my old members used. I dont know if this can be handled with IE only code, but I am hoping it doesnt come to browser specific hacks.. Im actually hoping i just messed something silly up Any and all help is appreciated... I been banging my head off the wall for hours. p.s. i know there is an opacity issue in IE too, but thats not nearly as impt as this one Thank you! Hey guys i've got a problem that I just can't figure out a solution for, i've attached a screenshot of the design. Basically there are various textboxes arranged in two columns, but their backgrounds (glows/curves behind the boxes) are causing me problems. The width of the design with the curves is larger than my target resolution (1024x768). I've tried playing around with margins but it makes the design generally very inflexible (all boxes have to be non-expandable that way). Is there anyway anyone can think doing this without a) having the minimum with of the website at 1200px b) positioning the boxes absolutely Cheers Hey All!!! K to everyone that has looked at my other thread, this is a totally different site with a totally different problem. Stupid problem though. tri-m.com/test/eng/ The site looks perfect in FF and IE7 but in IE6 you will see the problem. The divs with height:1px are displaying as divs with a height of 18px in IE6. URGG IE6 should be banned!!!! - Jacenta Hello, I am using an OS Commerce layout for a client's website. On this page - www.mts-diesel.com you will see how I have the homepage laid out in anticipation of design, with 3 divs of varying colors. One div with an id of #hp_left is where I want to put a nice jquery code. But when I insert that into #hp_left it breaks the whole layout, was seen here www.mts-diesel.com/index2.php I'm not sure what in the css in the code for this script is breaking my layout but Ithought someone here might be willing to shed some light. A big thank you. Tom I am working on the new home page which is based on a template. The left sideColumn is working fine, however I am having a few problems with the mainColumn layout. Here is a static image to show what I want it to look like Here are the problems I am having: 1) The #scroll box is place where I want it in IE but in foxfire it is right up against the left side of the #sideColumn partially hidden. There will be text that scrolls into this box and stops. I haven't started on the part yet - in case that makes a difference. Not my choice, but that is what the bosses want. 2) I want the image centered horizontal within the #mainColumn. Here is what I have for the css: #home img { margin: 5px auto 5px auto; } which I thought would do the trick, but it's not. 3) I want the p text to have a 40px margin on the right and left side like the .large does. Here is what I have for the css: #home p, .large { margin: auto 40px auto 40px; } It works for the .large (Welcome to Vitalograph), but not for the text below it. At one point I had it working, but after addtional changes fixing other problems, now it doesn't and I can't figure out why. Hi there and thanks for reading & helping! I am new to this site, but here is my question: I need to build about a 20 page website. I have been told I should do the "layout" for each page using CSS. Is it possible for each page to "link" to one CSS file for layout instructions? I have found suitable CSS layout templates but am unsure how to link each page to the external CSS file for a basic "header, 2 column, footer" layout, or if it is even possible? Need help with layout, picture attached. I need the footer's end to be at the level of the sidebars end unless content is too long and in that case it would expand in height. In other words there has to be a min height for content so footer wont go any higher than in the picture, but will go down if content expands. Any tips on how this needs to be done? Hi, How do I position "new.gif" on the same line as text "some subject here" ? Right now "new.gif" appears on right side as intended but underneath text. Code: <td><a href="">some subject here<span style="float:right"><img src="new.gif" alt="New" width="30" height="10" align="middle" /></span></a></td> Thank you. Hi I want to achieve this layout using CSS http://www.premier-resin-systems.co.uk/layout.jpg I want it to be 3 columns, but as you can see the navigation part overlaps the red background image that I was going to put in my header div. I would like some help if poss on how to put this design into divs before I plough staright in!! Thanks for any help or advice! Hi, I am relatively new to CSS and am trying to come up with a layout very similar to Noteableapp. What I like about that design is that the taskbar stays floated at the top, while the central column exands with the width of the browser. What I'm trying to do different is have a much more detailed background image, rather than a simple gradient. The problem I'm having is that the navigation divs seems to be transparent so the detailed texture shows through. I've tried building the divs from scratch without success as I can't seem to get the central column to stay in the centre of the page, so I had a look at the css for Noteableapp however its a bit complicated for me and raised more questions than answers! Can anyone point me in the direction of a good tutorial to achieve a layout similar to Noteableapp or able to contact me and guide me through what is actually happening with the noteable css. My preference would be a tutorial so I can actually understand what is happening but any help would be much appreciated. I am working on a site for a class assignment and got it too look how I wanted in firefox 3 but then when I tested it in Explorer it is a completely different monster! "Navigation" will contain the menu. "Intro" will contain two items: a logo (image) on the left and a banner (flash) on the right. In this moment I have the following: http://www.27lamps.com/Beta/Bar/Bar.html I am not sure if using a background image is the best way to do this ... ... it seems to me that since the two bars are two different sections then I should use two divs. So the questions I have: 1. Should I use two divs, one for each bar, and setting the line- height in em instead of using the background image? 2. How to place side by side the logo and the banner and centered them vertically? 3. I would like the Navigation and the Intro bars to have a minimum height. My content div is 566, plus 2px for the border, plus 20px for the padding. Giving it a margin-left of 162px gives us a grand total of 750. IE seems to hate the padding - when i modify that it works fine - even changing the margin doesn't do anything. and there's an extra 2px between the menu and the contents just in case. So I can't figure why it's bumping down in IE. and i'm using v6, and have the doctype declared, so it shouldn't be in quirks mode. TIA, Greg I was working on making 2 different link menu's one that dropped down and one that was stationary underneath it. On my computer it looks fine but on some computers the bottom link is partially underneath the top one. and the opacity filter's do not show up especially on mac's. Was wondering if anyone could help. Heres the website link, and then the code. http://www24.brinkster.com/mattphat/test2.html Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> <HEAD> <TITLE>Northwest Connecticut YMCA | We build strong kids, strong families, strong communities.</TITLE> </HEAD> <style type="text/css"> * { margin: 0;
