CSS - Content Falls Out Of Outer Container In Ff
HI,
Not only is this my first time posting, its my first site ever built using CSS (trying to learn as I go). The page displays fine in IE7 but my content boxes are outside of the wrapping container in Firefox, tried to figure it out myself, but don't really know enough yet. (URL address blocked: See forum rules) The CSS is embedded in the head of the page. Any help is much appreciated, Regards Fiona Similar Tutorialsi am working on an autocomplete, and in firefox it works beautifully, in IE when the drop down occurs it falls behind all the other content on the page. i have tried using z-index to bring it up and that didnt work, what else is there that i can do to try and get this to work? http://www itsdavesworld com / divbehind.jpg Ok, I have three problems with this test page. 1. How do I force the logo to be always to the extreme left (just over left container) whilst ensuring the menu options stay on the right side? 2. How do I force the menu options to vertically align to the bottom? (So that their baseline matches the baseline of the logo) 3. In FF the right side image is correctly displayed in the right-side container, but in IE the images somehow ends up directly below the left side image! Any idea where I'm going completely wrong? If anyone has sometime to have a look here a a link containing the test page content in a zipped file...zipped test page For reference, I'm testing this with the following browsers... IE 6.0 FF 2.0 Thank you in advance. PS. I can create a page with this (and more complex) layout easily using the html "table" tag (it's what I've been doing for at least a few years), but we don't do things like that any more so I thought I'd better get with the scene and master this div thing once and for all! Using "table" tags for layout is so last century! Well here is my problem... I'm trying to do a fluid design with complete css. All is fine, however when I view my page I can't get the content to fill an entire area. I tried to use a width:100% but that stretches it way too much and it goes over the container div. What I want is for it to go the container div but not over, is there any way I can do this with the current layout? I would post the code but tis a lil big so would be easier to just direct you to my site. I have tried many different thing but to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TiA -BoNfiRe I'm trying to add "shadow" (which is in fact, an image) effect behind the border of my "centerContent" (i.e. the area where the main description text lies). Presently looking page can be seen on: http://allinclusivewebdesign.byetho...esign/about.php The related CSS code is: Code: #centerContentContainer { width:100%; } #centerContentShadow { background:url(content-shadow.jpg) #FFFFFF; width:760px; float:left; } #centerContent { background:url(contentbackground.jpg) #FFFF00; color:black; text-align:center; position:relative; width:700px; margin-left:30px; float:left; border-left:1px solid #999999; border-right:1px solid #999999; } And to display it within each html files, I've got: Code: <div id="centerContentContainer"> <div id="centerContentShadow"> <div id="centerContent"> Now, the problem is, it looks differently in my Firefox & Internet Explorer browser. In Firefox it displays perfectly well (except the "bottomMenu"), as it can be seen from: http://allinclusivewebdesign.byetho...esign/about.php while in Internet Explorer this "centerContent" drags down. In addition, in Firefox AND Internet Explorer, my "bottomMenu"'s width gets change to the same width as the "centerContent" itself rather than the 100% width, as it was displaying earlier (http://allinclusivewebdesign.byetho...esign/about.php) I wonder if anyone around could possibly point me in the right direction to get the desired output, since all I want is just the shadow image displaying behind the "centerContent" i.e. around the left & right border. Ok, so I've learned to stay away from tables when you don't need them, and I have an instance where this is the case. I have a container div that has a header, content and a footer. On my home page, I have to divs next to each other with the same height and a div below them towards the right. To simplify my problem, look at this example. Code: <html> <body> <div style="float:right"> Hello there! </div> <hr> </body> </html> If there's a "float:right" on that div, the hr tag below doesn't get pushed down. But if I use relative positioning and don't use the floats, I can't put the two top divs next to each other. The other option is to use absolute positioning, but again content below doesn't get pushed down correctly. It seems that using "clear:both" works, but it seems weird that this has to be done. For example if I have floating divs in a container, I can get them to stretch out the container like so: Code: <html> <body> <div style="border: 1px solid #000; "> <div style="float:right"> Hello there!<br /> Hello there!<br /> Hello there!<br /> Hello there!<br /> Hello there!<br /> Hello there!<br /> Hello there!<br /> </div> <div style="clear: both"></div> </div> <hr> </body> </html> Am I missing something fundamental here? Is there a better solution? Thanks in advance. I'm testing this page in FF 3.6, so at the moment, I don't really care what doesn't work in IE. As you can see in the code below, my page consists of a couple wrapper divs around a menu and info area. I did solid color backgrounds in the code below rather than the images I've been using to make this simpler to look at. Essentially, the outer wrappers allow part of the background image of the inner wrapper to disappear when the window is too small. In addition to that functionality, I also want the info area to shrink when the window gets even smaller than that. As it is currently, that almost works--the two wrappers shrink when I get below their max-width, but the info area does not shrink until the window is well within its max-width. Here's the code: Code: <html> <head> <style type="text/css"> body{ text-align: center; } #container { background-color: red; max-width:990px; min-width:760px; position: relative; margin: 0 auto; } #content{ background-color: lightblue; max-width:990px; min-width:760px; margin: 0 auto; margin-left: -200px; padding-left: 200px; /**allows 200px of background to disappear when window too small**/ text-align: left; } #menu{ background-color: #ffffcc; width: 200px; position: absolute; left: -20px; /**allows hangover into disappearing background--no padding necessary since will be using img links**/ } #info{ border: #000 1px solid; max-width: 790px; min-width:560px; /**doesn't shrink when window below the max, even though container and content do**/ position: relative; left: 180px; /**width of menu plus menu left **/ padding: 5px; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="container"> <div id="content"> <div id="menu"> <img height="50" width="200" alt="link" /><br /> <img height="50" width="200" alt="link" /><br /> </div> <div id="info"> <img height="500" width="400" alt="picture" />Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. </div> </div> </div> </body> </html> Edit: I've found that if I make the menu relative positioned and position info absolute (and add top: 0px;) that I can get info to shrink properly. However, then the background from content is only as tall as the menu--which may or may not be shorter than the content in info. If I make the height of content 100% it looks ok, but not the way I'd like it to look. I can live with the extra background under the words in the case where there isn't enough to fill the whole height of the window, but if the window isn't tall enough for all the stuff in info, the background doesn't extend down far enough. Thanks for any ideas! Hi, I'm trying to include some text within a div, but the last line always seems to fall outside the bottom border. An image of what it looks like is attached. Here's the html I'm using: Code: <div class="tbl-row <?php echo ($intRow % 2 == 0) ? ("tbl-row-odd") : ("tbl-row-even"); ?>"> <div class="title-lbl">Site: </div> <div class="title-text"><?php echo $aCols["site_name"]; ?></div> <img src="{ImgSpacer}" alt="" width="1" height="20" /><br /> <div class="contents-text"><?php echo nl2br($aCols["contents"]); ?></div> <div> <span class="subon-text"><?php echo $aCols["local_time"]; ?></span> <span class="subon-lbl"> at: </span> <span class="subon-text"><?php echo $aCols["local_date"]; ?></span> <span class="subon-lbl"> on: </span> <span class="subby-text"><?php echo $aCols["full_name"]; ?></span> <span class="subby-lbl">Submitted by: </span> </div> </div> and here's the css: Code: .contents-text { color : #F98537; font-size : 15px; text-align : left; } .tbl-row { border-radius : 15px; -moz-border-radius : 15px; -webkit-border-radius : 15px; margin-left : auto; margin-right : auto; padding : 8px; vertical-align : top; width : 96%; } .tbl-row-even { background-color : #FFEBCB; } .tbl-row-odd { background-color : transparent; } .subby-lbl { color : #F98537; display : inline; float : right; font-size : 15px; vertical-align : top; } .subby-text { color : #F0F; display : inline; float : right; font-size : 15px; vertical-align : top; } .subon-lbl { color : #F98537; display : inline; float : right; font-size : 15px; vertical-align : top; } .subon-text { color : #F0F; display : inline; float : right; font-size : 14px; vertical-align : top; } After much testing, I've found that it's the floats that seem to be causing the problem. When I take them out, the row is included within the outside div, but when I put them back in, the row falls outside. I need to keep the floats, because I would like to have the "Submitted" row aligned to the right, unless there's another way to achieve the same effect. So, does anyone know how I can have the last row right-aligned and included within the surrounding div? Debbie Hi, My CSS has a simple declaration for "A" href tags: Code: a { color:#8D603B ; text-decoration: underline; font-weight:bold; } a:visited { color:#8D603B ; font-weight:bold; } a:hover { color:#A97043 ; font-weight:bold; } So, this is used throughout the site. However, I want to specify a different style for the "A" tag if it is within a certain DIV. For example, Code: <div class="whitebox">This <a href='mypage.php'>link</a> displays fine because it is inside a white box.</div> <div class="blackbox">I want this <a href='mypage2.php'>link</a> to be white, since it is inside a black box.</div> The problem is - I can't simply add a "class" to the link tag - i.e. <a href='mypage2.php' class='whitelink'>link</a> - because all this will be remote authored via a CMS. Rather than adding complexity to my CMS - is there a simple CSS declaration to specify that all links within the "blackbox" DIV must be a different style (including the 'hover' effect)? Thanks very much! Hi, I'm trying to make a table that will hold a bunch of thumbnail images - three columns and however many rows are necessary. I would like this table to have a border on of the cells EXCEPT for any border on the outside of the table, so it should look like this: Code: | | ---------------------- | | ---------------------- | | Is there some nice little CSS code that will do this for me? I know that I can set the top right box's left and top border to 0, top right box's right and top border to 0 etc but I will be generating the table dynamically so it makes it harder to do the bottom three cells (still possible though, so I'll do it if I have to). Thanks hi, i have a container div, set at 50% opacity. i want my content to apear in here, but be 100% opacity. i thought this would work, but it doesn't... any help? #transContainer { background-color: #FFF; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; width: 982px; padding: 7px; height: 100%; padding-top: 0; filter:alpha(opacity=50); -moz-opacity:0.5; opacity: 0.5; } #mainContainer { background-color: #ccc; padding-top: 10px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; width: 968px; height: 94%; filter:alpha(opacity=100); -moz-opacity:1.0; opacity: 1.0; } Hi There - Have a simple container div containing two other divs, top and content. My problem is that I can't get the colorboxtop to stick to the top of its container. There's a wayward space. Can't find any stray margins or padding hanging around. Perhaps fresh eyes can see what I cannot. Please let me know. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Code: <body> <div class="colorbox"> <div class="colorboxtop"> <h2>title goes here</h2> </div><!-- /colorboxtop --> <div class="boxcontent"> <p>You should read this and <a href="#">Click Here</a>.</p> <a title="Go Here!" href="#">[button]</a> </div><!-- /boxcontent --> </div><!-- /colorbox --> </body> No great complexity there...here's the CSS: Code: body { color:#666666; font-family:Lucida Grande,Verdana, sans; font-size:10px; font-size-adjust:none; font-style:normal; font-variant:normal; font-weight:normal; line-height:13px; } .colorbox { margin-bottom:9px; padding-bottom:15px; width:300px; border:thin solid #CCCCCC; } .colorbox h2 { color:#FFCC33; } .colorbox { color:#CC6633; padding:0px 20px 15px; margin-top:0; margin-bottom:10px; } .colorboxtop { background-color: #dddddd; height:50px; color:#666666; background-image: url(images/bg_Tiles/stripe-dk-blue-green.png); padding:auto 20px; } .colorbox a { color:#C5DBE9; font-weight:bold; text-decoration:none; } Hello there, first post, just need a quick fix. Hope you don't mind. So I'm trying to make myself a new portfolio site, but there's this 'error' I can't seem to fix... (Can't post a link in my first post, so just copy/paste "hellspike.thanez.org/newsite" in the addybar.) Basically that 150*300 infobar is supposed to be right next to the image, but it always ends up above or below the container. <!--AK47--> <div id="imgcont0"> <div id="imgcont1"><img src="images/ak47/1.jpg"></div> <div id="imgcont2"><img src="images/ak47/info.jpg"></div> </div> <!--/AK47--> imgcont0 is a 825*300 container, in which imcont1 (render) and 2 (infobar) are supposed to be. Stylesheet: #imgcont0 { width: 825px; height: 300px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; } #imgcont1 { width: 650px; } #imgcont2 { margin-left: 675px; width: 150px; } As you see the code is simple, yet I can't seem to fix this problem. Ideas? Hello, I'm working now on div layout that contains 3 sections (header, body, footer) in one centered wrapper with border (divs with background imgs). My problem is: - divs that are in fact borders (id="l_outerborder_b" and id="r_outerborder_b") don't stretch when main container (id="body_content_text") grows. URL hTTp://qsrc.pl/layout.jpg How do you create an inner border around a table in css, rather than a "solid" border which creates a border line around the table on the outer half. The border needs to butt up against an image, rather than leaving a pixel space. This is the coder I have so far. Nothing big: Code: .solid { border: solid 1px #000000; } Thanks. Hi there, I have a content glider script, but I have added it to a wrapper with a background image. The css is using a white background colour so when a new layer is glided up, it covers the one underneath it. However, I want the background to be transparent to show the background image underneath.... If I remove the white background, they layers become transparent and overlay each other, so you can see all text in the layers on top of each other making it impossible to read. Is there anyway I can make it so it has a transparent background, but so it will not show the content under the new slide? This is my CSS: PHP Code: .glidecontentwrapper{ position: relative; /* Do not change this value */ height: 230px; /* Set height to be able to contain height of largest content shown*/ overflow: hidden; } /* Total wrapper width: 350px+5px+5px=360px Or width of wrapper div itself plus any left and right CSS border and padding Adjust related containers below according to comments */ .glidecontent{ /*style for each glide content DIV within wrapper.*/ position: absolute; /* Do not change this value */ background: white; visibility: hidden; width: 330px; } /* Total glidecontent width: 330px+10px+10px=350px Or width of wrapper div itself (not counting wrapper border/padding) */ .glidecontenttoggler{ /*style for DIV used to contain toggler links. */ width: 360px; margin-top: 6px; text-align: center; /*How to align pagination links: "left", "center", or "right" background: white; /*always declare an explicit background color for fade effect to properly render in IE*/ } Any help would be great! The problem is, In IE the container holds the footer, but in Mozilla (PC) and on my mac in safari and Mozilla the container is only like 0 px height and the footer div pops over the bottom border on the container. Here's my code I'm using. PHP Code: <div id='breakfootercontainer'> <div id='footer'> <a href='' class="mainnav">duplicate nav</a><br> <a href='' class="mainnav">duplicate nav</a><br> <a href='' class="mainnav">duplicate nav</a><br> <a href='' class="mainnav">duplicate nav</a><br> </div> </div> What is causing the container to not fill around the info inside the footer? Also, I have 2 columns(red border around field picture and welcome column and the nav with the blue border) with a container around them (big white border around both), one shorter than the other (the red border column), but I want the shorter one to go the full length of the container (white border) so my column backgrounds line up and part of the page isn't longer than the other. I want to use my footer as a cap all the way across the page. Is there any way to do this without putting <br>'s in the smaller container to fill it out? I'm not sure where I'm making my mistake but I can't seem to get the boxes inside the container to stay at 100%.
