CSS - Content Forced Below Menu In Ie
Hey folks,
Here's the site. Problem i'm having is getting the content up next to the floated menu in IE...it's all good in FF (as per usual), but despite my attempts to clear the float, it still won't line up. Also, the top li in the menu's background image isn't showing up properly in IE...dunno what the deal with that is either. Here's the CSS; Code: #content { margin:auto; position:relative; min-height:100%; width:90%; padding-bottom:20px; } * html #content { height:100%; } #menu { position:relative; float:left; width:218px; height:260px; z-index:100; margin:10px 20px 10px 0; } #menu li { width:168px; color:white; padding-right:50px; text-align:right; } #menu li strong { color:white; text-align:left; } #menu li a { color:white; text-decoration:underline; font-size:11px; } #menu li a:hover { color:white; text-decoration:none; font-size:11px; } #menu_01 { background:#f7f7f7 url(images/menu_01.gif) no-repeat; height:10px; } Thanks! Similar TutorialsIt's been a long while since I did anything using HTML or CSS so I might be prone to silly mistakes. A site I'm working on is giving me unusual results. The second HR is being forced to the right of the horizontal menu. No other element in it's place does the same thing. I want to force certain text on top even if something else says that the something else should be ontop. I am doing this on the top and bottom of pages... for forced ads... they are being covered up on somepages and i want to make sure that this can not happen please delete this thread Any ideas that would help me out... http://www.countrystampinangel.com/ The Sub Menu is on the Products button http://www.countrystampinangel.com/angel.css I'm having a few problems with my CSS design which I can't seem to solve right now, despite lots of searching and code editing. I'm trying to do a simple design with two columns - a left menu and the main content on the right. It should be a simple page I think. It's probably easier to see an example of the page I'm talking about: http://edwin.netbits.co.uk/devshed/...blem/index.html In Firefox, it looks fine. But in IE 6 the line "Some text" is slightly more to the right than the line "and some more text". If you select the text on the right, it's slightly more obvious (see screenshot). It seems that the menu on the left is somehow shifting the text over. I have looked at tutorials (such as this one), but the test page I put together has the same problem. I think this is probably a simple problem, but I can't work out what's wrong. The HTML and CSS code is shown below. HTML: Code: <div id="contentscontainer"> <div id="left"> Menu </div> <div id="contents"> Some text<br /><br />and some more text </div> </div> CSS: Code: div#contentscontainer { padding: 0px; margin: 0px; } div#left { float: left; width: 50px; padding: 0px; margin: 0px; } div#contents { padding: 0px; margin-left: 170px; } Thanks, Edwin http://www.larreamma.com/kids_programs.html On the PC the last 'About Us' menu overlaps the body content when it is expanded. Does not occur on Mac (FF, Safari, Chrome). Tried playing with 'z-index' but if that is the issue then I am not putting it in the right place. Thank you in advance. I've been developing a content management system, and one of the final things I have to clean up is a stylesheet problem involving the float property. I'm trying to position two boxes next to each other id: menu and id: content, but until I set the width property on content it would drop beneath menu. I want the content box to fill any remaining space to the right of the menu, with appropriate padding and spacing and such. Can anyone help make suggestions as to the best way of achieving this? Here is some of my css code which is also viewable on the website which is located at: 8< snip >8 Code: #container { margin: 1em 4em 1em 4em; /* width: 750px; dynamic width */ text-align: left; background: #FFFFCC; border: 2px solid black; } #menu { float: left; margin-top: 20px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-left: 20px; margin-right: 20px; font-family: Verdana; font-size: 12px; width: 150px; display: inline; } #content { float: right; width: 20em; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 20px; margin-bottom: 0px; /* margin-left: 170px; */ padding-top: 5px; padding-left: 20px; padding-bottom: 20px; border-left: 2px solid black; height: 100%; } Thanks for trying to help, I've been getting really frustrated trying to get css to work in both ie and firefox. BTW: I've been finding the Web Developer firefox extension very helpful for this kind of work. Hello, How can i create a fixed-width menu to the left with content to the right that fills up the rest of the page. ie, no auto-width, it needs to fill up all the way to the right edge. So if you create a horizontal line <hr> in the content it will draw all the way to the right (except for some padding of course) Like this pictu tinyurl.com/ydsr2ov Code: http://www.blametruthproject.com/home Hey CSS gods So I need some help with my dropdown menus, they are currently going behind the content on my posts in my blog, I think this could be fixed with CSS but I guess you guys could tell me that. Thanks, Neil. i ve been playing with my page and been trying to modify the width of the page (divs) according to the browswer's width. The problem is i want the navigation menu on left to be fixed width (say 200px) and the center div and the right column to be variable width. Also, i want to set a minimum width , so that the floating divs dont roll below the navigation menu. here s the link to the page. try reducing ur browser windows size . the content div rolls down under theleft nav menu. http://ccc.1asphost.com/pacemakerpr...r/cicuitlab.htm Also , i get wierd result in netscape navigator. please help Hi there, I have a content glider script, but I have added it to a wrapper with a background image. The css is using a white background colour so when a new layer is glided up, it covers the one underneath it. However, I want the background to be transparent to show the background image underneath.... If I remove the white background, they layers become transparent and overlay each other, so you can see all text in the layers on top of each other making it impossible to read. Is there anyway I can make it so it has a transparent background, but so it will not show the content under the new slide? This is my CSS: PHP Code: .glidecontentwrapper{ position: relative; /* Do not change this value */ height: 230px; /* Set height to be able to contain height of largest content shown*/ overflow: hidden; } /* Total wrapper width: 350px+5px+5px=360px Or width of wrapper div itself plus any left and right CSS border and padding Adjust related containers below according to comments */ .glidecontent{ /*style for each glide content DIV within wrapper.*/ position: absolute; /* Do not change this value */ background: white; visibility: hidden; width: 330px; } /* Total glidecontent width: 330px+10px+10px=350px Or width of wrapper div itself (not counting wrapper border/padding) */ .glidecontenttoggler{ /*style for DIV used to contain toggler links. */ width: 360px; margin-top: 6px; text-align: center; /*How to align pagination links: "left", "center", or "right" background: white; /*always declare an explicit background color for fade effect to properly render in IE*/ } Any help would be great! Thanks. Well I managed to find a partial solution by adding "clear" to the "statusDiv" like so: Code: .statusDiv { clear: both background-image: url(../png/disclosure_triangles/blue_block.png); height: 20px; margin-bottom: 1px; } This kicks sibling divs onto their own line (which is what I wanted) but the spacing between divs is 2 pixels and I can't seem to find any combination of padding, margins etc to get the spacing down to one pixel. Does anyone know of a way to control the inter-div spacing when "clear" is defined? Thanks Ken --------------------------------------------------------------- Original post --------------------------------------------------------------- I'm trying to make a few divs to create the same basic functionality as an outline (with disclosure triangles etc...) and am having alignment problems. The first row renders perfectly but the text of subsequent rows overlaps the text of first row. Thanks for any help Ken http://www.hybridillusions.com/wordpress/?m=200712 Still working on it, but something caught me and I'm clueless. See, I'm still learning Tableless CSS, and well... I'm not sure how to have it so that the content doesn't run over the footer like that. As it should be more like... http://www.hybridillusions.com/wordpress/ For CSS reference, here is where the css file is located: http://www.hybridillusions.com/wordpress/wp-content/themes/simplistic/style.css Thanks in advance! Following sample is from http://www.code-couch.com/jeff/snippets/general/tektips-navigation-example.html is what I am trying to reference to create a template. But how do I how keep the state of Menu on each requested page any help is appreciated. The following menu is saved in a separate jsp file i.e. navs.jsp. I include this navigation jsp file in all of my files. Initially the drop down looks like: Code: . Ask.Jeeves . [+] Google.com . [+] Yahoo.com Now clicking [+] in front of Google.com will look like. Code: . Ask.Jeeves . [-] Google.com . Google.co.ie . Google.co.ie . [+] Google.co.nz . [+] Yahoo.com Lets's say now if I click on Google.co.ie it takes me to sample.jsp and on this requested page (sample.jsp) how can I show the following menu hierarchy with Google.co.ie bold/underlined/colorchanged showing what menu content I clicked and am viewing the appropriate content i.e. Code: . Ask.Jeeves . [-] Google.com . Google.co.ie . Google.co.ie . [+] Google.co.nz . [+] Yahoo.com Same way clicking Google.com or Yahoo.com or Ask.Jeeves shows you the following hierarchy on the requested page with higlight/bold/colored the link we just selected. i.e. Code: . Ask.Jeeves . [+] Google.com . [+] Yahoo.com Any time clicking on the menu takes me to some page but on that page I want to show th hierarchy of the menu all the way to which is recently clicked with different color setting. With the website lady gone on a trip around the world for a year, I ended up being the person to attempt to modify our side menu to show an additional column of subcategories. I tinkered around with the code we had and I managed to get this to work in Firefox, however in IE7 the contents of the menu shift down a few pixels when you hover over a category. To view my problem, go to scannerparts.biz I've messed around with this for a few days and everything has become a big confusing mess so I have no choice but give in and ask for help. I thank anyone in advance for any assistance you can offer. -Emerson Here is the code: hover.css Code: <!-- body { behavior: url(/images/csshover2.htc); } div#categorynav ul {margin: 0px; padding: 0px;} .submenu { position: relative; In IE it's almost there, except that the submenus will only appear one level deep. The menu is created with nested lists. The :hover functionality is simulated via JavaScript for IE 6. The IE developer toolbar shows the 3rd level menu is correctly being changed to display: block when its parent is hovered, and the border the dev toolbar draws even puts it in the correct place, it just doesn't actually appear. You can find the page he http://www.perceptes.com/topdog/ The CSS and JS (uses jQuery) can be found he http://www.perceptes.com/topdog/css/screen.css http://www.perceptes.com/topdog/css/ie.css (loaded with a conditional comment) http://www.perceptes.com/topdog/js/tdps.js http://www.perceptes.com/topdog/js/ie.js (loaded with a conditonal comment) For a specific example of what I'm talking about, try hovering over the second item, Filters & Parts. This will give you another level with four choices. Each of those also has child elements, but when hovered over, the next level doesn't appear. Try it in something other than IE 6 or 7 to see how it's supposed to look. Thanks very much in advance! Ok, I know virtually nothing about css, but realized that that a css menu is better for SEO. Anyway I found this vertical menu that works the way I want it. But I also need a horizontal version of it with dropdown submenus. Can someone help with this?
