CSS - List Issues...urge To Kill Ie Rising...
Howdy folks,
I have been chasing this issue for long enough. I have a list to display thumbnails and a brief description of products pulled from the database. I laid it out on paper, did the math to make sure it would still display three rows at 800x600. I looks beautiful in FF, and okay in IE6 @ 1152*864, but in IE7 it falls apart...same with resolutions lower than mentioned. I had prior issues with the height, which I've since addressed. I need some help. Here's one of the pages in question. Here's the css; Code: /* THUMBNAIL DISPLAYS */ .thumbrow li { min-width:140px; width:25%; min-height:192px; margin:10px 4%; list-style:none; float:left; background-color:white; text-align:center; font-size:8pt; } * html .thumbrow li { width:150px; height:200px; margin:10px 4%; } i'd truly appreciate some help on this...before i toss a computer out the window. thanks again, Microsoft. Similar TutorialsHi all, Probably easy, but I'm stumped... At this test page, I have now included a little horizontal image spacer image IN the list on the right. You'll notice that it has a bullet just like the text links do. I want the image right where it, preferably with no space above or below it between the "Resume" & "I Can Help" links. If I close the UL tag after Resume, then re-open it before I Can Help, the gap is too big. So I threw the image directly into the list! But I gotta kill the bullet. How? CSS FILE. Thanks! Chris Hi There, I am coding a design that has a semi transparent menu that uses this: Code: #mainnav { float: right; background: #fafafa; filter:alpha(opacity=65); /* IE Proprietary */ opacity: 0.65; /* CSS3 Standard */ -moz-opacity:0.65; /* Mozilla Property */ height:31px; font-size: 1.1em; } When I add hover to any of the navigation items that fall within this parent div the transparency is maintained. I need the hover to be solid color, not semi transparent. Is there anyway to kill the transparency on hover? I have tried adding an 'a:hover' with the maximum opacity (0.99) to #mainnav and also independently to the child elements with no success eg: Code: .nav-list-items a:hover { display: table-cell; height: 31px; vertical-align: middle; background-color: #ec7404; color: #fff; filter:alpha(opacity=99); /* IE Proprietary */ opacity: 0.99; /* CSS3 Standard */ -moz-opacity:0.99; /* Mozilla Property */ } Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Hello; Could anyone tell how to kill the scrollbars from IE, Firefox, Netscape.,please. My following code just work for IE, it doesn't not affect another browsers. #newst {overflow: scroll; overflow-y: scroll; overflow-x: hidden; overflow:-moz-scrollbars-vertical;} <textarea name="newst" id="newst" rows="10" cols="45" ></textarea> I have a custom list where the list elements will show horizontally across a row until they can't, and then bump down to the next row. I use it for a gallery of pictures. The problem is, there is all this extra padding on the left of the list for some reason that I can't seem to get rid of. I'm not sure what is causing this. I attached the picture and here is the CSS for the <ul> tag Code: .photolistitem { position: relative; display: block; float: left; list-style-type: none; height: 140px; width: 140px; padding: 5px; border: solid 1px black; margin: 5px; background: white; text-align: center; } Here is the HTML. There is PHP in there to get each photo Code: <ul id="sortable"> <?php $pics = $DB->query("SELECT * FROM pictures WHERE gallery_id='".$gallery['id']."' ORDER BY position ASC"); $num = $DB->rows(); if ($num > 0) { while ($pic = $DB->fetch()) { ?> <li class="photolistitem"> <table> <tr> <td class="imageCell"> <a rel="group" class="gallerypiclink" href="pictures/<?php echo $pic['filename']; ?>" title="<?php echo $pic['caption']; ?>"><img class="gallerypic" name="<?php echo $pic['filename']; ?>" galleryid="<?php echo $pic['gallery_id']; ?>" src="pictures/thumbs/<?php echo $pic['filename']; ?>" width="<?php echo $pic['thumb_width']; ?>" height="<?php echo $pic['thumb_height']; ?>"></a> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <p> <a href="#" class="delete">Delete Picture</a><br /> <a href="#" class="editCaption">Edit Caption</a> </p> </td> </tr> </table> </li> <?php } } else { echo "<p id=\"none\">No images uploaded yet</p>"; } ?> </ul> There is just one table around the list with only the list in it. I made the bgcolor of it blue to highlight the issue. Thanks Hey everyone, After doing some reprogramming of the site I was making I'm having troubles with lists. I can't set the width of the li or a so that the size takes shape. I can't figure out why, or how to do it. I know I've done it before but the code i used there just doesn't seem to want to work. The LI and A tags take the size of the text within. I've checked the resources I could find in the sticky and that kravitz gave me and they seem to be able to set width but it's just not working. here is my css Code: #menu{ width:750px; border:thin solid #000000; } #menu ul{ margin:0; padding:0; width:750px; display:inline; } #menu li{ width:150px; display:inline; border:thin solid #000000; list-style-type:none; background-color:#550210; } #menu a{ width:150px; } If I take out the display:inline the width takes shape but when I put it back in it resizes to the size of the text within. This is one of Many issues I have with fire fox, Basically I want a list of hyperlinks with no bullets. Normally I would set list-style-type = "none" for the <uL> tag and that would be it. In fire fox, the list disappears. Also it appears that FF has issues with hyperlink in a list because even with out the style type set, the list disapears. CSS Code: a:link { font-family: "Bradley Hand ITC", "Monotype Corsiva"; color: #999999; } ul{ margin:10px; padding: 10px; list-style-type: none; } li { font-family: "Bradley Hand ITC", "Monotype Corsiva"; color: #999999; } html Code: <div id="projects"> <h1>Projects</h1> <P> <ul> <li><a href="#">1</a></li> <li><a href="#">1</a></li> <li><a href="#">1</a></li> <li><a href="#">1</a></li> </ul></p> </div> I have a horizontel list as my menu with a 1px border to the right of each item as a seperator. Each item has 10px padding to the left and right. In all browsers it shows up as expected in the middle of the menu items but in Explorer the border is way closer to the right, almost pushed up against the item to the right. Any help please. I cannot figure this out. I've tried adding clear: both in several places, I've tried overflow: hidden and I've tried cursing. Nothing works! How can this be fixed so that in IE6 the divs are not staggered vertically?? Code: <div style="height: 38px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; width: 140px;"> <div style="float: left; height: 38px; width: 38px;"><img style="border: 1px solid #444444; vertical-align: middle" src="http://www.diversifieddesigns.com/GRAPHICS/Spacer.gif" alt="" width="38" height="38" border="0"></div> <div style="float: right; height: 38px; width: 102px;">copy</a><br>copy</a></div> </div> <div style="height: 38px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; width: 140px;"> <div style="float: left; height: 38px; width: 38px;"><img style="border: 1px solid #444444; vertical-align: middle" src="http://www.diversifieddesigns.com/GRAPHICS/Spacer.gif" alt="" width="38" height="19" border="0"></div> <div style="float: right; height: 38px; width: 102px;"><img style="border: 1px solid #444444; vertical-align: middle" src="http://www.diversifieddesigns.com/GRAPHICS/Spacer.gif" alt="" width="38" height="8" border="0"></div> </div> I have a list that I've created with the list-style-type being an image. For some reason, the space between the list-style-image and the list text differs in IE and Firefox. Has this happened to anyone else, or am I doing something incorrectly? Below is the code. The cell that these lists sit in has has an id of 'cellid'. Code: #cellid { margin: 0 0; padding: 0 0; } #cellid ul { margin: 10px 0 0 20px; padding: 0 0; } #cellid li { margin: 0 0; padding: 0 0; list-style-image: url(images/idxyellowlist.gif); } The ul has a margin of 20px on the left to line up with an element above it. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to get around this space? Thanks, Brian Seems like most people use unordered lists for menus. Code: <ul> <li>menu1</li> <li>menu2</li> <li>menu3</li> </ul> Others use definition lists. They claim it is less buggy with IE. Code: <dl> <dt>menu1</dt> <dt>menu2</dt> <dt>menu3</dt> </dl> Any thoughts on whether unordered lists or definition lists are best? Also, I sometimes see the menu text surrounded by a SPAN tag. I believe this has to do with only being able to assign one attribute to an element, but am uncertain. Can anyone help explain? Also, if I want a single HTML to work with various CSS, is it a good idea to always include the SPAN tag? Code: <ul> <li><span>menu1</span></li> <li><span>menu2</span></li> <li><span>menu3</span></li> </ul> Thanks Hey, I came across this forum and hopefully somebody can help me. Here is my website: http://www.jmuelectricmotorcycle.tk When the page is in firefox, If you page zoom out, the navbar goes under the content instead of staying on the right. I think it has something to do with padding and the sidebar not having enough room so it drops down. When I set the content to 1005 instead of 1000, it works, but there's a giant 5 pixel gap between my side bar and my content container. Also, does anybody know how to style called data from ssi.php in SMF forums? I want my login boxes to look like my main page. Thanks. Here is my css: Code: html { font: normal 12px verdana, arial; background-color: #000 } body { text-align: center } #fw-container { margin: 0 auto; width: 1000px; text-align: left } .hasSidebar #fw-container { width: 1000px; } a, a:visited { text-decoration: none; } a:hover { text-decoration: underline; } /* --- Header --- */ #fw-head { position: relative; height: 196px; background: #242424; } #fw-title { font: bold 26px verdana; letter-spacing: -1px; position: absolute; top: 20px; left: 20px; padding: 0; margin: 0; z-index: 10; } #fw-title a, #fw-title a:visited, #fw-title a:hover { color: #fff; } .fw-logo { width: 760px; height: 196px; position: absolute; } .hasSidebar .fw-logo { width: 1000px; } /* --- Navigation --- */ #fw-mainnavwrap { background: #242424; padding: 10px 20px; font-family: arial; font-weight: normal; border-top: 1px solid #000; border-bottom: 1px solid #000; } #fw-mainnavwrap ul { margin: 0; padding: 0; background: transparent; list-style-type: none; } #fw-mainnavwrap li { margin: 0px 15px 0px 0px; display: inline; } /* --- Content --- */ #fw-bigcontain { width: 760px; float: left; } .fw-paragraph { background: #242424 url('../Waveform/img/bg-p.gif') repeat-x top left; border-bottom: 1px solid #000; padding: 15px 20px 10px; overflow: hidden; } .fw-title { margin: 0px 0px 10px; font: 18px verdana; color: #fff; } .fw-text { margin-bottom: 10px; } /* --- Sidebar stuff --- */ .hasSidebar #fw-sidebar { width: 239px; float: right; font-size: 12px; clear: right; border-left: 1px solid #000; } #fw-sidebar .fw-title a, #fw-sidebar .fw-title a:visited, #fw-sidebar .fw-title a:hover { color: #fff; text-decoration: none; } #fw-sidebar .fw-title { font-size: 1.3em; font-weight: normal; } /* --- Footer --- */ #fw-footer { font: normal 10px verdana, sans-serif; background: #242424; margin: 0px; padding: 11px 0px 1px; color: #999; clear: both; width: 760px; } .fw-footertext { background: #161616; border-bottom: 1px solid #000; border-top: 1px solid #000; margin: 0px; padding: 6px 0px 6px 20px; } Hi, Have an unordered list which I use as a menu. I have set the list-style-type property to none because I don't want any bullets or anything. When I look at the menu within a bordered div, it seems like there is a margin to the left of the <ul>. Eventhough there are no bullets in the <ul>, the <li> are still placed at the same location from the left. How can I left adjust the unordered list so that there are no visible margin at the left side? /Hubba Bubba Hi I have a vertical menu containing main and subcategories. subcats are hidden, when a main cat is clicked then subcats are displayed, all is done with css no javascript. here is the structure, Code: <ul id="nav"> <li class="level item-1 nav-clothes active parent"> <a href="/clothes.html"><span>Clothes</span></a> <ol class="level item-1"> <li class="level1 nav-clothes-shirts"> <a href="/clothes/shirts.html"><span>Shirts</span></a> </li> <li class="level1 nav-clothes-tanks"> <a href="/clothes/tanks.html"><span>Tanks</span></a> </li> <li class="level1 nav-clothes-raincoats"> <a href="/clothes/raincoats.html"><span>Raincoats</span></a> </li> <li class="level1 nav-clothes-dresses"> <a href="/clothes/dresses.html"><span>Dresses</span></a> </li> <li class="level1 nav-clothes-swimsuits"> <a href="/clothes/swimsuits.html"><span>Swimsuits</span></a> </li> <li class="level1 nav-clothes-outerwear last"> <a href="/outerwear.html"><span>Outerwear</span></a> </li> </ol></li> <li class="level item-2 nav-beds parent"> <a href="/beds.html"><span>Beds</span></a> here is my all related css, external css file, Code: #nav { font-size:13.5px; color:#000; padding:0 0 0 0; margin:-20px 0 0 0; width:100%;} /* All Levels */ #nav li { text-align:left; } #nav li.over { z-index:999; } #nav a, #nav a:hover { display:block; line-height:1.3em; text-decoration:none; } #nav span { display:block; cursor:pointer; white-space:nowrap; } #nav li ul span {white-space:normal; } #nav li li.parent {} /* 0 Level */ #nav li { clear:both; position:relative; display:block; } #nav li.active a { color:#000; text-decoration:underline; } #nav a { float:left; padding:2px 14px 11px 0px; color:#000; font-weight:bold; } #nav li.over a, #nav a:hover { color:#000; text-decoration:underline; } #nav .item-1 ul a { background:url(../images/arr_sub_menu.gif) 0 9px no-repeat; padding:0 0 0 0; color:#1A1616;} #nav .item-2 ul a {padding:0 0 0 0; color:#1A1616;} #nav .item-3 ul a {padding:0 0 0 0; color:#1A1616;} #nav .item-4 ul a {padding:0 0 0 0; color:#1A1616;} #nav .item-5 ul a {padding:0 0 0 0; color:#1A1616;} #nav .item-6 ul a {padding:0 0 0 0; color:#1A1616;} #nav .item-7 ul a {padding:0 0 0 0; color:#1A1616;} #nav .item-8 ul a {padding:0 0 0 0; color:#1A1616;} #nav .item-9 ul a {padding:0 0 0 0; color:#1A1616;} #nav ul li a { padding:0 0 0 0;} #nav ul li a:hover { padding:0 0 0 0; text-decoration:none;} /* 1st Level */ #nav ul li, #nav ul li.active { float:none; margin:0; padding:6px 0 0 29px; background:#FFFFFF; border-left:1px solid #E8E7E7; border-right:1px solid #E8E7E7; } #nav ul li.over {} #nav ul li.last { background:#FFFFFF; padding-bottom:15px; } #nav ul a, #nav ul a:hover { float:none; padding:0;} #nav ul li a { font-weight:normal !important; } /* 2nd level */ #nav ul { position:absolute; width:199px; top:23px; left:-10000px; background:url(../images/bg_sub_menu.gif) 0 0 no-repeat; padding:23px 0 0 0; border-bottom:1px solid #E8E7E7; margin-left:100px; } /* 3rd+ Level */ #nav ul ul { top:5px; background:none; padding-top:0; border-top:1px solid #E8E7E7; } /* Show Menu */ #nav li.over > ul { left:0; } #nav li.over > ul li.over > ul { left:100px; } #nav li.over ul ul { left:-10000px; } #nav ul li a { background:url(../images/arr_sub_menu.gif) 0 9px no-repeat; padding:0 0 0 0; color:#1A1616; } #nav ul li a:hover { color:#1A1616 !important; } #nav ul span, #nav ul li.last li span { padding:3px 15px 4px 15px; } #nav li ul { display:none; } #nav li:hover ul{display: block; } #nav ol { margin-left:5px; margin-bottom:10px; } #nav ol li { padding-left:15px; background-image:url(../images/ol_bg_lines.gif); font-size:12px; font-weight:normal; } #nav ol li.last { background-image:url(../images/ol_bg_lines_last.gif); } inline css code to overwrite the default behavior for target page Code: ul#nav {margin : 0 10px; margin-bottom:0px;} ul#nav li {height : 14px; margin-top : 5px;} ul#nav li a, ul#nav li a:hover {} ul#nav ul {margin-top : -8px; background : url(/images/drop-ul-bgr.gif) no-repeat; } ul#nav ul li {height : auto; margin-top : auto;} ul#nav ol li a { padding:0px; } ul#nav ol li { margin:0px; padding:5px 0 5px 15px; } ul#nav ol { border:#ccc 1px solid; padding-bottom:30px; } I am attaching a screenshot to explain the problem, i have given border to the OL to explain the problem. In the screenshot the pink arrow is pointing the place, BEFORE BEDS, where i want to give more space but the child list keeps overlapping rather than pushing the parent list downwards. any help is much appreciated I am really stuck with this. Hi, I have an OL list (the numbered one) and the horz gap between the list item number (as automatically generated by OL) and the text of the LI is too big (according to client). Looks fine in FF but is bigger alright on IE (ahem naturally .....) I've played with the CSS for both the OL & LI styles even setting all margins and paddings to 0 but without effect on the gap. Is there any way to style that gap? Code below. Kevin <ol class="most_read"> <li class="most_read_li">Apples</li> <li class="most_read_li">Oranges</li> </ol> .most_read { text-align:left; color:#808080; font-size:10px; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight:normal; margin-left:30px; padding:0px; margin-top:5px; } .most_read_li { margin-bottom:7px; margin-right:7px; } Hi I am creating a navigation bar using unsorted list and CSS. I have given my CSS and HTML code here Code: #navcontainer { width: 200px; margin-top:150px; } #navcontainer ul#navlist { width:200px; clear:left; text-align:left; margin-left:0; padding-left:0; list-style:none; font-size: 12px; font-weight:bold; line-height: 14px; } #navcontainer ul#navlist li { margin-left:0; padding: 0px; display: block; list-style:none; border-bottom: 1px solid gray; } #navcontainer ul#navlist li.last { border-right: 0; background:none; } a.linkText { padding: 10px; display: block; color : #444444; font-family : arial; font-size : 11px; font-weight : bold; text-decoration : none; height:25px; } a.linkText:link { color : Aqua; /* you can define other styles if necessary */ } a.linkText:visited { color : Maroon; /* you can define other styles if necessary */ } a.linkText:hover { color : Blue; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="navcontainer"> <ul id="navlist"> <li><a class="linkText" href="#">Item One</a></li> <li><a class="linkText" href="#">Item two</a></li> <li><a class="linkText" href="#">Item three</a></li> <li><a class="linkText" href="#">Item four</a></li> <li><a class="linkText" href="#">Item five</a></li> </ul> </div> The problem is, when I select the next list item, previously selected list item should come to the original color. Is there any way I can achieve this? Your guidence will be appreciated. Many thanks hello all, I am stuck on few things here. I want to make the following changes and I tried fixing them several times but could not succeed. 1. quantity input align right at the center. 2. remove button v-align at the bottom of the total1 div tag, centered. 4. subtotal text positioned on same vertical line with Qty. 3. update button position 50px left side of subtotal text. I'd appreciate any help I could get. If you think my css is sloppy please advise, I am open to make any changes, its better late than wrong. http://www.refinethetaste.com/html/content/basket/basket.htm Code: <style> /*basket*/ #basket { width:576px; I want it to look like it is in FF. For some reason there is extra space in IE. Another issue is my css image rollovers. Since the background images aren't preloaded there tends to be a brief "flash" before appearing on hover. Damn css. This would be so much easier if I just used the javascript rollover since you can tell it to preload the images. Any help to any of these issues would be greatly appreciated. -Jesse I am brand new to CSS and I'm having two issues. I've searched around and I cannot figure this out. 1. I cannot get text inside a div. I'm using an external style sheet and I can't seem to get text to go inside a scrolling DIV. I'm completely confused. 2. The second issue is if the window shrinks or someone is using a smaller resolution, I want the CSS to shrink the page and stay uniform as well. It also doesn't play nicely in IE. The issue I'm having is I'm not very comfortable with my CSS yet so I'm kind of hesitant to play around too much. Here is my code. Please don't laugh too hard :/ Code: body { background: white url(xxxxxx) repeat-y center; } #header { position: fixed; top: 0px; left: 20%; } #headertext { position: fixed; top: 15px; left: 268px; width: 100%; } #navbar { position: fixed; top: 150px; left: 256px; width 100%; } #navbartext { position: fixed; top: 150px; left: 240px; width: 100%; } #footer { position: fixed; top: 735px; left: 256px; width 100%; } #footertext { position: fixed; top: 747px; left: 251px; width 100%; } #textbackground { background-color: #000000; position: fixed; top: 193px; left: 256px; width: 768px; height: 542px; overflow: auto; } I think I did alright for a first time CSS writer but it's obviously not right. Ok so i made a site that validates in w3c check and shows ok on all browsers save for IE. Im really not sure where to begin on debugging it! http://new.mostardesigns.com/ Any help is much appreciated! EDIT: Fixed. I think the issue was because of the fixed positioned div tag at the top of the page. I had to set the width of the content_wrapper div. EDIT 2: Well partially fixed. It now has the scroll bar, but when the window is decreased below 1000px in width, the floated header div doesn't scroll via the scroll bar. Any way to fix this? On this page: http://www.area51entertainment.co/emoto When the page is resized below 1000px no scroll bar comes up.
