CSS - Began With A Javascript Drop Down And Went To A Css Drop Down
Hello all,
I'm trying to fix my drop down so it goes straight down. I originally had it so it was reading the javascript but after adjusting it quite a bit, it spans the whole parent nav bar and is completely in css. I don't mind that it's in css but I want visitors to be able to see it in ie because ie own's a good 75% of the browser population. Here is my site, i still have the javascript file in there but it doesn't do anything anymore. Any clues on how to get it so it goes straight down and is viewable in ie? When ever I add in the list for the drop down, everything gets pushed to the left and where ever the list begins, every link after that just disappears. I'm pretty sure the link is being put inline instead of block like I wanted it to but i'm not sure how to correct it and I am getting completely frustrated doing it. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I was doing wrong. Also, I used the suckerfish method for the drop down. HTML Code: Code:

<a href="agency.html"id="nav_agency" class="" title="Agency">AGENCY

<a href="services.html"id="nav_services" class="active" title="Services">SERVICES

TECHNOLOGY

DISTRIBUTION

CASE STUDIES

BLOG

Search Engine Marketing

Pay Per Click Management

Lovcal Search Marketing

Contextual Marketing

Shopping Comparison

Paid Inclusion

Search Engine Optimizaiton

[\code] JavaScript Code: [code] startList = function() { if (document.all&&document.getElementById) { navRoot = document.getElementById("break"); for (i=0; i<navRoot.childNodes.length; i++) { node = navRoot.childNodes[i]; if (node.nodeName=="LI") { node.onmouseover=function() { this.className+=" over"; } node.onmouseout=function() { this.className=this.className.replace(" over", ""); } } } } } window.onload=startList; Here is the part of the css I created but i'm not sure how it's all supposed to go together since I'm a javascript noob. The only change I need to make is to have the right edge of the drop-down menu to align with the right edge of the parent menu. When you hover over the menu, it currently "drops" down and to the right, with the left edges aligned. I want the menu to "drop" down and to the left, so the right edges are aligned. I have tried fiddling with floats and absolute/relative positioning. I'm not sure what needs to be changed. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated! I'm learning via "cut and paste", so please go easy on any terminology you may use. Thank you! Hey folks, having a bit of trouble with a css-based drop down menu in IE7. It works fine in IE8/FF/Chrome etc., but not 7. The problem is when the rollover pops out, if you try and navigate down through the dropdown, it disappears. The issue can be seen here. Hi there, First I should mention, I have been doing a lot of research to learn CSS, and this is basically the first time implementing it for my company's website. I have A LOT to learn still! I'm using Dreamweaver MX and MX 2004 (2004 seems to keep crashing on me today, and i can't run it)...anyways... I am working on a dropdown menu using pure CSS....WHICH is a library item that I am dropping into a table cell below the top banner on the index page, and others. However, I'm having problems with some styling and the best way to work some things. First, if you click he Interface I hope someone can help me!! I'm so frustrated! You can see HOW I want the nav to look. I seem to have a problem with the aligning of the text, as well as roll over effects: basically, I would like my nav button to turn blue w/ white text. And I'd like to have my buttons closer together, having it look as close as possible to my interface img above. Also having issues w/ IE...which I assume would happen. Here is my CSS and HTML code (remember, no body or title tags because it's an lbi item:

Products

Audio

Video

Home Automation

Lighting

PDF Downloads

Part Index

News and Events

New Products

User Profile

Company

Tradeshows

Newsletter

Order

Distributor List

Corporate

Company Bio

Technical Resources

Connector Cross Reference

Wire Gage

Glossary

(IF you need me to, I can send you my site files over email) I really really appreciate all the help you guy's can give me! I figured someone has come across every problem so someone might be able to show me some direction on fixing this. I have a unique drop down menu which works really well in: - FF3 - IE8 - IE7 - Safari - Opera - Safari (mac) - FF3 (mac) - Camino (mac) However, IE6 never plays well with anything like this. It displays everything correctly with the right styles/etc, but when you mouse over elements in the drop down the drop-down flickers. I am not using a background-image, only a background colour. So, can anyone help me out? Perhaps an IE6 bug i haven't come across. I'm having a bit of trouble getting something to work correctly. I did most of the grunt work on getting it customized, but I was hoping someone could help me figure out a few minor details. The version of the drop down I had to make has images for the top level (main level) of the navigation, and each image is a unique size. In doing so, as well as adding padding to the second level li for aesthetic purposes, in IE the menu doesn't drop but floats over to the right. I'm not sure why this is. Also, I know this may be more fit for the JavaScript area, and I'll repost there if necessary, but I'd like to keep the top level image in the "over" state while the cursor is on that 2nd level dropdown. Is that possible? I'll be anxious for your feedback, this has been driving me crazy all day. Here's the code. XHTML: Code:

sublink 1

sublink 2

CSS Code: #nav { margin: 0; padding: 0; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; font-weight: bold; color: #67670f; } #nav ul { margin: 0; padding: 0; list-style: none; } #nav ul li.one { float: left; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 51px; list-style: none; } #nav ul li.one img { border: 0; } #nav ul li.two { float: left; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 118px; list-style: none; position: relative; } #nav ul li.two img { border: 0; } /* - begin level 2 - */ #nav ul li ul { margin: 0; padding: 0; list-style: none; position: absolute; left: -999em; border: solid 1px #ddd; width: 118px; voice-family: "\"}\""; voice-family:inherit; width: 116px; } #nav ul li ul li a { display: block; padding: 3px 0 3px 3px; margin: 0; color: #67670f; text-decoration: none; width: 118px; voice-family: "\"}\""; voice-family:inherit; width: 113px; } #nav ul li.two ul li a:hover { color: #52432c; background-color: #e4e2db; text-decoration: none; } #nav ul li:hover ul, #nav ul li.sfhover ul { left: auto; } JavaScript Code: sfHover = function() { var sfEls = document.getElementById("nav").getElementsByTagName("LI"); for (var i=0; i<sfEls.length; i++) { sfEls[i].onmouseover=function() { this.className+=" sfhover"; } sfEls[i].onmouseout=function() { this.className=this.className.replace(new RegExp(" sfhover\\b"), ""); } } } if (window.attachEvent) window.attachEvent("onload", sfHover); It seems that in IE something isn't being cleared, as it almost appears that the second level is in place directly next to the top level link that is activating the dropdown menu. I look forward to your insight! Thanks! -Brian Hi, I have this drop down menu, but the parents are appearing under each other, instead of next to each other. I am trying to create a horizontal menu with sub items appear under the parent items. this is my code: PHP Code: #menu2 { width: 800px; float:left } #menu2 ul { list-style: none; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 12em; float: left; } #menu2 a, #menu2 h2 { font: bold 11px/16px arial, helvetica, sans-serif; display: block; border-width: 1px; border-style: solid; border-color: #ccc #888 #555 #bbb; margin: 0; padding: 2px 3px; } #menu2 h2 { color: #fff; background: #000; text-transform: uppercase; } #menu2 a { color: #000; background: #efefef; text-decoration: none; } #menu2 a:hover { color: #a00; background: #fff; } #menu2 li {position: relative; float:left; width: 200px;} a.mainlevel{background-color: #000000!important; display:inline-block} #menu2 ul ul { position: absolute; z-index: 500; float:left } #menu2 ul ul ul { position: absolute; top: 0; } div#menu2 ul ul, div#menu2 ul li:hover ul ul, div#menu2 ul ul li:hover ul ul {display: none;} div#menu2 ul li:hover ul, div#menu2 ul ul li:hover ul, div#menu2 ul ul ul li:hover ul {display: block;} Can anyone see anything wrong? Many thanks How easy is it to create one of these where when you hover over a link a menu appears underneath? I am trying to create a menu [css / html]. Home | Live Music | Info | Options | Contact The Live Music tab: live music > hover over to reveal > 970 px wide div containing music styles jazz , blues, soul etc> hover over to reveal> 970 px wide div containing band1, band 2, band 3 etc The Options Tab is a basic drop down menu After several days of comparing / reading / going round in circles, I am stumped and hope someone can provide a very basic css + html for the problem. The bands' div needs to contain a bg image of 970 x 250. I spent a long time doing a similar menu but it doesn't do what I need it to do and is restricted by the css. Help would be really appreciated. TIA Hi, I am working on my site, and was wondering if anyone knew how to do a menu like this http://www.vh1.com/music/ The one on the left in blue.. how it turns to white. I am pretty sure this is done with css. Can anyone tell me how this is done? Thanks I am very new to this whole css thing, but am trying to get all learned about it. I think I am doing badly so far. I am trying to make css drop-down menus, and have pulled code from all over the place, and modified it to look correct (so as to match my design comp). it is based on the suckerfish model <http://www.alistapart.com/articles/dropdowns/> and it works exactly as it should in safari, firefox (mac & pc). but doesn't work correctly at all in IE (mac or pc). I have implemented the "ie fix" with the javascript code several sites instructed me to use, and while it now sorta works (in the sense that the menus drop down), there are still problems. such as in IE on pc you can't roll down to the drop down menus, because they go away as soon as you roll off the top menu item. in IE on mac they are messed up in a whole other way. you can roll down to them, and they don't go away as soon as you're off the top nav option, but the hover is all jacked, and the menu is broken, sending the last nav button down to the next line! aaahhh! can anyone help me?! I'm sorry I'm so stupid and helpless, but... well. I am. any tips/etc would be mighty appreciated! -daniel K, finally got a working drop down menu, pretty well exactly how I want it...however, in IE it works properly, but in FF it seems to grow in width and cover the drop down part up. Probably somethin to do with a preset 'td' width in my html, but not sure. Here is what i'm talking about, and here is the style sheet. Any help is greatly appreciated! |
