CSS - The Text Is Huge In Ie 6

hi all...

i have a huge style sheet, and i need to convert it to display properly in IE, how do i go about doing that, not recoding all the styles, i am also thinking about the check to se which style sheet to use, i think that i saw a method to do it under the <link> tag or something ?... help a fellow out there are over 800 lines of code in the style sheet....

I'm having trouble with a layout issue. Position is fine in IE, but in Firefox and Mozilla there's a 55 pixel gap on this drop down list and an even larger gap when the list is expanded.

Here's my css for the navbar:

I am working on a landing page for a client and I am a bit stuck. All XHTML and CSS validates, no issues there....

The design looks and works great in ALL browsers other than IE6. The issue is with the 3 colored divisions, secondLeft, secondMiddle, and secondRight.

In IE6 there is a HUGE amount of white space left between the div's with no reason that I can find.

I researched the issue online and found similar issues:

IE6 3px float bug

and

IE6 double margin bug

Neither of which seem to be the issue, and the fixes they describe do not work.

I am completely at a loss on this one, and any guidance anyone can offer would be VERY useful!

So i just wrapped up some initial styling for a personal website i'm working on, http://www.sociospatial.com/

Looks fine in firefox. Has some minor issues in chrome/webkit, which I'll iron out later. Haven't dared to load it up in IE yet. In Opera, though, I'm having a problem that I don't know where to start.

So without having to paste alot of code, I have a wrapper div and a footer div, just so that I can have the footer hug either the bottom of the viewport or the bottom of the page, whichever is lower. I also wanted some background elements to the page, but I wanted them to hug the bottom as well (load up the page in firefox and resize to viewport to see), so I ended up with something like this:

in firefox/webkit at least, these function as i want, so I have 2 spans that spill up through the top of the containing footer div, but still hides behind normal content. If my wrapper content is minimal, it appropriately hugs the bottom of the viewport and i don't have any vertical scrollbar. If I have a lot of content in the wrapper, I have a vertical scrollbar, but the footer and the spillout background elements are all waiting for me at the bottom of the page.

in opera (9), the two spans hug the bottom of the (initial) viewport as I would hope, but I *do* have a vertical scrollbar (even when the content in the wrapper does not necessitate it), and scrolling down reveals that I have a *huge* amount of space that's just empty body background below the footer. This empty space seems vaguely correlated with the "height" values of the spans (the lower the height value, the smaller the empty black background space under the footer), and the vertical scrollbar goes away completely under one of these conditions:
a) i add "overflow:hidden" to the div#footer styling (but of course this stops the span elements from spilling through the top)
b) using the W3-dev opera tools, if I disable both spans
c) after I disable both spans, I enable only one or the other (if I just disable one after both have been enabled, the vertical scrollbar stays, so I have to disable both first).

i'm not quite sure what exactly is going on here, nor really what issue I'm trying to track down (I don't know what to enter for a google search, for example) - I'm kind of new at this. Anyone have any clues to contribute? I'll add more information if needed.

I'm working on a layout for a client, and I've run into a problem I've never seen before. My code is fully valid CSS (except for the *html IE fixes) and fully valid transitional XHTML, and it works fine in FF, IE and even Safari - but as soon as I load it up in Opera, it breaks completely. The font size is absolutely HUGE for some reason (like 400% of normal!), and it is completely breaking my layout.

I have no idea why this would be happening, and it's immensely annoying. I'm setting all of the font sizes throughout the page in ems, and at the start of the css I declare the following:

See how they side bar goes all the way down and meets the footer?

Mine has a one inch gap between the bottom of the column and the footer.

Does anyone know what they did to make it meet perfectly?Or the proper css code & where to put it? I've been trying to get this solved for dayyyssss

I would like to pop up the text, that is, make it bigger when the user hovers on it. but the problem everytime the text gets bigger, the whole row moves and the surrounding texts gets displaced.

Been having a slight problem with the visual in the screenshot below.

The blue line is our H2, and the purple one is our H3, however, as you can see, the underline spans the entire width of the column, not just underneith the text, which is our requirement.

***As i am not allowed to upload a url as a new user, the underline is as follows. With the text centre aligned.

I might be silly to use a template that I did on illustrator (with all the banner, boxes and navbar read and just use that as my container background. then I made some transparent boxes for puting in text, images or form elements. Is that why I am not able to select any other those things on the site?

I know how to position regular text using the in-line style "text-align:right", but when I try to do that with a link I get nowhere. Simplified example:

The first body line works fine to move the text to the right, but the link in lines 2-5 of the body are stuck on the left. Any suggestions?

(My actual code invokes a class from a css page in a particular <td> and I'm trying to force a link in that <td> to the right using an in-line style; while I can do that for regular text I haven't found the secret of doing that for a link.)

I saw a website that was throwing text that was written and recalling it with a link into a textbox...are there any tuts or anyone help me out with this one thanx aim rpduece

i have almost perfected the text wrap for this page.... http://defunctgames.com/helpfix/relevent.php4 problem is, i put a margin-top:50px on the image, and i want the text above the image, to flow all the way to the left. thus fully wraping the text.

See code below. Why does the outer SPAN in TABLE not grow with the image height. If the text is longer so it is forced below image then it looks as it should.
Please also read some comments in the code.

Based on the questions I see being asked and answered here, I'm concerned many of you will laugh at my ignorance, but here goes anyway.

I want to know how to use CSS on just a little text.

For example, let's say I want to render One-Two-Three-BOOM as text on a Web page, except that what I really want is for the BOOM part to be in a larger font and bold-faced. Can that be done using CSS? Can I select the BOOM part in Front Page 2003 and impose a CSS style to those four letters and only those four? Everything I try, based on the CSS file I'm using, results in applying the new style to all of the text within a whole paragraph. I want to be able to apply the style to just a little text at a time.

As another example, I want to render the following two lines

Johnny G. Doe
123 West South Street

in such a way that, using CSS to control everything, I can get the second line to appear in a smaller font. I can get it to work if there's a <p> between the two lines, but not if I want to separate them with a <br>.

I'm not asking whether it's a good idea to use CSS this way, I'm just asking how to do it.

I will try to attach a file to this thread that shows the first several lines of the CSS file I'm using, in case that makes a difference. If this doesn't work, please let me know.
