CSS - The Website Displays Randomly Incorrectly With Firefox
I did a site recently and Im having trouble finding what is causing this weird error.
If you go to this gallery using firefox: http://www.mmimageart.com/fineart4.html you will notice that the thumbnails under "saguaro" will display wrongly. IF you dont see the problem just keep refreshing the browser until you get the problem. you will get it. there are problems also in: http://www.mmimageart.com/fineart3.html (everglades) http://www.mmimageart.com/fineart.html (Atlantic Coast) What coding error in css can cause firefox to display the website wrong randomly ? Is this a well known error ? if not, then Ill post the code. Thanks in advanced!!! Similar TutorialsI am attempting to put together a site with CSS navigation for the first time. Thanks to people much smarter than I, I've been able to stitch other's lessons into something almost workable. THE PROBLEM I have a horizontal menu with a submenu. This submenu should also display horizontally. It does in FF, but not in either IE6 or IE7. In these browsers, it displays vertically. I have tried a lot of things and finally gave up. I validated my code and was given a pass. I've tried narrowing down the problem and have tried searching for the answer but I just can't figure it out. If needed, you can view the problem at www.foundationfitnesscenter.com/schedule (ignore the crappy header image, it's just there to show an idea for now). The CSS where I feel the problem must be: Code: #nav #schedule-sub, #nav #education-sub, #nav #classes-sub { display:none; width:90%; } body.classes #nav ul#classes-sub a, body.schedule #nav ul#schedule-sub a, body.education #nav ul#education-sub a { background-image:none; color:#3300FF; font-size:100%; font-weight:bold; line-height:10px; margin-right:4px; padding:2px 10px 2px 10px; text-decoration:none; } body.classes #nav ul#classes-sub, body.schedule #nav ul#schedule-sub { display:block; position:absolute; left:15px; top:95px; } body.education #nav ul#education-sub { display:block; position:absolute; left:175px; top:95px; } The HTML Code: <ul id="nav"> <li class="home-list"><a href="/index.php">Home</a></li> <li class="classes-list"><a href="../classes/">Classes</a> <ul id="classes-sub"> <li><a href="../classes/pilates.php">Pilates</a></li> <li><a href="../classes/dance.php">Dance</a></li> <li><a href="../classes/gyrokinesis.php">Gyrokinesis</a></li> </ul> </li> <li class="schedule-list"><a href="../schedule/">Schedule</a> <ul id="schedule-sub"> <li><a href="../schedule/class-schedule">View All Classes</a></li> <li><a href="../schedule/enroll-private.php">Enroll - Private</a></li> <li><a href="../schedule/enroll-group.php">Enroll - Group</a></li> </ul> </li> <li class="education-list"><a href="../education/">Education</a> <ul id="education-sub"> <li><a href="../education/pilates/">Pilates</a></li> <li><a href="../education/dance/">Dance</a></li> <li><a href="../education/gyrokinesis/">Gyrokinesis</a></li> </ul> </li> <li class="about-list"><a href="../about/">About</a></li> <li class="contact-list"><a href="../contact/">Contact</a></li> </ul> ML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

My page is displaying correctly in IE 6,7,8(CV), but when I view it in Firefox or Safari, it does not display correctly. The problem I'm having is the div #main is not stretching to allow room for the content in it. In IE it stretches fine, but in FF and Safari it doesn't stretch at all. I've been all over the internet searching but I can't find any similar problems/solutions. I've tried whatever I can think of or find. Can somebody please help me or point me in the right direction? Page: <div id="main"> //problem div <div id="sideBar"> <div id="header"> </div> </div> <div id="mainContent"> //contains content that I need to be stretched to the height </div> </div> CSS Code: html { margin: 0; padding: 0; border: 0; } body { background-image: url(img/bg.png); background-repeat: repeat-x; background-color: #008A32; margin: 0; padding: 10px; border: 0; height: 100%; min-height: 100%; } #main { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; padding: 20px; position: relative; border: solid 1px #0C0; width: 760px; margin: 1px auto; background-color: #FFF; } #sideBar { width: 194px; float: left; clear: left; height: auto; min-height: 100%; } #header { width: 194px; height: 344px; clear: both; float: none; background-image: url(img/Logo01.png); } #mainContent { width: 546px; float: right; clear: right; height: auto; min-height: 100%; } Thanks in advance -Mike I'm beating my head against the wall on this one and could use some expert help. In full disclosure, I am using a css template site I found on a open source template site. The site renders fine in Firefox and Opera, but is problematic with some pages. Here is one of the pages I am having trouble with in IE: http://worldwidemediaproject.com/tvrating.php You'll notice that in IE it appears like there are a bunch of <br>'s after the TV Stations header. This does not appear in either Firefox or Opera. The strange thing is this one appears fine in IE: http://worldwidemediaproject.com/tvrating.php?id=71&language=all&genre=all but this one doesn't: http://worldwidemediaproject.com/tvrating.php?id=216&language=all&genre=all The only real difference is that the table size is larger in the pages that have display problems. Is there some kind of IE hack that I need to apply? Many thanks.... I apologize if this is supposed to be in the HTML forum. Since html code can be viewed from the source I thought I will post the css code to cross check since I couldn't figure out what is causing the problem. So thought I would post it in CSS forum. I have the following site that displays fine in Firefox but is all a mess in IE. http://www.geocities.com/dhaagey08/DhaageyTab2.html Following is the CSS code I am using. ====================================== * { margin: 0; padding: 0; } html { background: #fff url("images/html1.png") repeat-x left top; } body { font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; color: #888888; background: url("images/body.png") repeat-y left top; width: 1000px; margin: 0 auto 30px auto; position: relative; } a img { border: 1px solid #ccc; } a { color: #f48a88; text-decoration: none; } a:hover { visibility: visible; /* IE bug fix */ } a:hover img { border: 1px solid #729AD7; } h1 { font-size: 14px; } h2 { font-size: 12px; } .page { background: url("images/page3.jpg") no-repeat left top; padding: 15px 125px 0px 115px; width: 760px; } .header{ position: relative; width: 760px; height: 170px; left: 5px; top: 0; background: url("images/header1a.jpg") no-repeat left top; } /************* menu1 ******************/ .bar4285801 { width: 345px; height: 35px; position: relative; } .bar4285801 table.tabbar { position: absolute; width: auto; height: auto; top: 0px; left: 45px; } .bar4285801 div { height: 35px; width: 115px; } .bar4285801 div.button { background: url(menu47831178.jpg); } /****************** menu2 ***********************/ .bar4285846 { width: 345px; height: 35px; position: relative; } .bar4285846 table.tabbar { position: relative; width: auto; height: auto; top: -35px; left: 390px; } .bar4285846 div { height: 35px; width: 115px; } .bar4285846 div.button { background: url(menu30455262.jpg); } .main { width: 706px; margin: 0 auto; } .box1 { border: 1px solid #ccc; clear: both; padding: 0 5px 25px 2px; width: 690px; height:350px; position: relative; } .lady { float: left; width:220px; height:350px; background: url("images/lady2s.jpg"); } #right { width: 457px; float: right; padding-bottom: 130px; } .dhaagey { font-family: monotype corsiva; font-size: 30px; color: #89201d; } .contact{ font-family: monotype corsiva; font-size: 18px; color: #89201d; float: right; margin-top: 55px; } .photos { margin-top: 5px; padding-bottom: 8px; } .photos a { width: 106px; height: 140px; float: left; background: #C2D3EE; text-align: center; color: #A2A3A6; text-decoration: none; font-size: 11px; font-weight: bold; margin-right: 14px; } .photos>a { min-height: 148px; height: auto; } .photos a.last, .greybox-background .right a.last { margin-right: 0; } .photos a:hover { color: #f48a88; } .photos a span { display: block; padding-top: 2px; } .photos a>span { padding-top: 5px; } .greybox { border: 1px solid #ccc; margin-bottom: 39px; padding: 5px 0; } .greybox-background { background: url("images/gbback.jpg") repeat-y left top; width: 100%; line-height: 170%; } .greybox-background .left, .greybox-background .right { width: 321px; float: left; padding: 0 10px; } .greybox-background .right { float: left; padding: 0 19px 0 20px; } .greybox-background .right a { display: block; float: left; margin-right: 11px; margin-top: 8px; } .greybox2 { border: 1px solid #ccc; margin-bottom: 15px; padding: 9px 7px; width: 688px; } .greybox2 .preview { float: left; margin-right: 40px; margin-right: 44px; } .greybox2 .preview img { padding: 5px; } .greybox2 .right { float: left; width: 350px; } .greybox2 .right a { float: left; margin: 0 14px 7px 0; } .footer1 { text-align: center; padding: 0 27px 3px 27px; } .footer1 a { color: #872323; text-decoration: none; } .footer1 a:hover { color: #d87126; text-decoration: none; } .footer2 { font-size: 0px; line-height: 0px; height: 15px; background: url("images/footer.png") no-repeat left top; margin-left: 110px; } .cleaner { font-size: 0px; line-height: 0px; height: 0px; clear: both; } ============================================ Any help is greatly appareciated. I've spent hours trying to figure out what is wrong with my page. It loads fine in IE. When I load it in Firefox, the nav menu on the left displays at the bottom of the page (as if my content section were too wide). If I hit refresh enough times, it will appear properly... hit refresh some more and it goes back to the incorrect layout. Additionally, if try to Edit CSS (Ctrl+Shift+E) the page snaps into the correct format. http://snipurl.com/19l6w I've tried everything I can think of to solve this. Any input here would be appreciated. Greetings... I've looked all around for a solution, and can't find one. Any help that anyone could provide would so greatly appreciated. My site http://www.baltimoregamers.com displays the div boxes incorectly in Firefox. I am using quite an unusual layout with one big picture as a plate for the entire site... I then lay div boxes/layers ontop of the plate to position text exactly where I want it to go. It works flawlessly in IE, but displays a too far down and to the right in FF/Mozilla. I am new to using CSS and I'm sure that something is off somewhere in the code. Thank in advance for any help. Feel free to e-mail me he dekay@baltimoregamers.com Hi- I am finishing up design of a site, and validated it with the W3c validator (everything is valid). When I go to it on IE, everything shows up the way that it should. However, when I go to it on Firefox or Safari, on three pages there seems to be a 'chunk' taken out of the left side. If you compare the three pages in IE and Firefox you should see what I mean (devshed won't let me post links so sorry for the formatting): 01f086d.netsolhost dot com/yk/services dot html 01f086d.netsolhost dot com/yk/experience dot html 01f086d.netsolhost dot com/yk/principals dot html It seems to be the page length that is causing this, because on shorter length pages, there is no chunk. I am using DIV tags to lay the site out, which should be pretty easy to follow if you view source. My CSS file is at: 01f086d.netsolhost dot com/yk/assets/css/defaultPage dot css (also validated with W3C). Any help would be GREATLY appreciated as I have spent hours on this last problem and can't figure out what is causing it! This probably is an easy thing but I have tried a lot of things and I cant center the website on firefox. it looks good on internet explorer. When you open the website it positions itself on the center and even when you resize the browser. This is how I want it to behave in Firefox. The site is temporary on: http://www.danielyanez.com and the css is on: http://www.danielyanez.com/Stylesheet.css I appreciatte any help in advance and I hope someone can give me a hand, thanks !!!! I've been working on this site for my Daughter using Wordpress, I've mashed about the CSS, Modding a template for the desired look for the site. I've tied validating it and it brings up a couple of strange comments about the </body> and </html> closing tags, I presume this is why IE7 is having problems displaying the page. Firefox doesn't seem to have an issue at all. I was hoping somebody could take a look at the source with a fresh set of eyes and let me know what is wrong, I've spent hours working on this and can't see it for the life of me. I'm sure it's something simple, I know I had an issue one time where a <P> tag wasn't closed and stopped the whole site being displayed... thanks. blog.mirana[dot]co[dot]uk Hello everyone. I have been working on a redesign of my current website for a while. Early on, I realized that the design was flawed for I.E. (I use Firefox on a regular basis for testing). I went ahead and just finished the design anyway, using Firefox to test. Now that it's done, I'm hoping that there's some stupid error in my CSS that's causing the problems, and hoping that someone can find the problem. If it's a big problem and alot of work to fix, I'm willing to pay someone to help me correct the issue. The main problem is my navigation bar at the top, which consists of drop-down menus. There's also a problem with how the background lines up. If you want to see what I'm talking about, go look at the site both in Firefox and I.E. The URL is: http://www.favillephoto.com/new website/index.html I have 2 different css files. One for my index page, because it is designed differently and has a sidebar. And then a second one for the rest of my pages on the site. I'll attach the CSS for both, in case there's an issue there. Thanks in advance for your help. This is the css file for my index page: Code: body { padding: 0; background: #ffffff url('images/img01.jpg'); font-family: "Trebuchet MS", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; color: #333333; Firefox and safari on PC seem fine but its only happening on Mac. The positioning of the images have moved dramatically. Not sure how to fix it CSS is validated and so is xhtml strict Hi guys, Im hoping a CSS whizz can find an error in this code as I cannot for the life of me work out why content held in the 'main' div is appearing outside / overlapping the edge of the site design? It loads perfectly in Firefox Code: #wrap { width: 820px; background: #CCC url(content.jpg) repeat-y center top; margin: 0 auto; text-align: left; } #content-wrap { clear: both; width: 760px; padding: 0; margin: 10px auto; } /* Main Column */ #main { float: left; width: 70%; padding: 0; margin: 0 0 0 5px; display: inline; } Any help would be greatly appreciated edit: FIXED! Hello all, I dont understand why the image placed inside the right column appears incorrect here. Please check the attachment or the following website and you will understand what I am refering. http://www.refinethetaste.com/yk/clients.asp Code: #content { float:left; width: 956px; min-height:800px; background:url(images/bg_content.gif) 0px 0px #e2eceb no-repeat; } #content #lcolumn { float:left; width:401px; } #content #lcolumn .logo { float:left; width:100%; } #content #lcolumn img.logo { float:left; width:401px; height:104px; border:0px } #content #lcolumn .head { float:left; width:100%; height:20px; background:#99adcc; } #content #lcolumn .head .text { float:left; width:100%; text-align:center; font-size: 13px; font-weight:bold; line-height:20px; color:#083684; } #content #lcolumn .main { float:left; width:361px; padding:20px; } #content #lcolumn p { font-size:15px; } #content #rcolumn { float:left; width:555px; height:505px; } #content #rcolumn img { float:left; border:0px; } I'm somewhat new to CSS, so excuse me if this post sounds noobish. The goal here is to make a simple 3 column layout with a header and a footer. For the most part, I've Googled around and I've got the basics of it down. But theres one problem - the far right column refuses to sit right below the header like it should. Its in its place horizontally - but vertically, it doesn't want to appear until the center column has ended. Heres the CSS I'm using - I hope you can infer what the IDs mean: Code: #header { background-color:#D7D7D7; color:#000000; padding:0; background-image:url(images/headerpng.png); background-repeat:no-repeat; background-position:top center; height:96px; border:2px solid black; width:100%; } #header h1 { padding:0; margin:0; } #leftnav { float:left; width:100px; padding:5px; margin:0px; text-align:center; font-family:Arial; } #centercontent { margin-left:110px; margin-top:5px; margin-right:150px; } #footer { clear:both; text-align:center; font-size:9px; color:#666666; } #rightnav { float:right; width:100px; padding:5px; margin:0px; text-align:center; font-family:Arial; } By the way, I know there are a few unnecessary properties in there, but I haven't cleaned this code up yet - just looking for the solution to my nesting problem. I am having some difficulty getting text to render how I want it. The page in question can be viewed he http://www.cbo4edu.org/who.html The column of text on the left is bolded for some reason and I want it match the text on the right (unbolded). I have setup an External style sheet and the only code I've applied to type is: PHP Code: .footer { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 8pt; } body,td,th { color: #000000; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; } body { background-color: #000000; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; The HTML code: PHP Code: <th colspan="4" rowspan="24" align="left" valign="top"><p>College Bound Opportunities (CBO) is a not-for-profit organization centered in the five communities within Deerfield and Highland Park High School District 113. CBO goals are achieved through a program of one-on-one coaching between volunteers and scholars. Additional aid provided by CBO includes tutoring, training services, laptop computers, and up to $4,000 per year in scholarships. </p> Thanks, Rebecca Hi, I've just joined these forums as I have a very annoying problem. I have created a webpage which I have checked using the w3c validator - it is valid for XHTML 1.0 Transitional and Strict. It is a simple design; Header 3 Cols Footer It works perfectly in IE7, however in FireFox (2.0.0.14) I am getting some very strange behaviour. On the first, clean load (cache cleared) the page is rendered incorrectly - the Middle and Right columns being rendered below the Left Column. If you then click on the address bar and press enter (thus reloading the page from the cache) it is rendered perfectly. If I clear the cache, go to the address bar, and press enter again it renders incorrectly. Pressing F5 to refresh (ignoring the cache) also results in it being rendered incorrectly. Correct: URL Incorrect: URL I thought it might have been image dimensions not being set - so I went through and set all these to no avail. Thanks in advance, Dave. Just when I think I've finally seen it all, every way these browsers can **** up, there's always one more. This morning I discovered that Netscape 7 / Win does not properly render an a element with image content. My example demonstrates that both IE 6 / Win and Netscape 7 / Win both have issues rendering a elements with text content also. This seems like really basic stuff . . . how, HOW could Netscape 7 not be able to render the a with image content correctly??? (Another good question is why this forum doesn't allow you to upload HTML files . . . WTF?? -- you'll have to rename the file to .html) |
