Similar TutorialsHey guys, So i'm working on the site www. paulfenton .tk. My problem occurs when you click on one of the categories in the sidebar or go to an individual post by clicking on the title... a horizontal scrollbar seems to come up. when it shouldnt. if you use the mouse wheel inside the content region, you can see that the content is scrolling a little bit horizontally. I woudld like to stop this or fix the cause but I cant figure out how... Also, if you click and drag downwards as if you were trying to select everything on the page, the page scrolls below the bottom border.. it is not supposed to do this since I turned off overflow. Any help or ideas would be great, let me know if you have any questions. -Paul I have a very high div which I want to resize depending on the height availible (it has the central BG image) e.g. if the user is on 1024 they dont have to scroll down for miles to see the whole page. But if the user is on a higher res then the div should become the full length available. Is this possible? I thought height: 100%; would work but it doesn't seem to do much. Also had at look at the overflow options but hidden wont do me any good because if the user is on 800x600 then you cant see the rest of the content. Any help appreciated thanks! Hello all, I noticed there was similar post on this topic, though I was not able to fix my problem with that post, so I will post my own. I have made a site with relative pos, and css. I have everything positioned nicely (on everything but IE, still working on that CSS), but I have a vertical scroll bar that goes down about 3 inches, the only thing, there is nothing down there to scroll to. I have tried to alter just about everything I can think of, but nothing seems to work. If you can believe it this has been plagueing me for about 3 weeks now. Any help would relieve a lot of stress. Thanks very much for your time. bcode. =========== CSS File============ .wdlogo { visibility:visible; position:absolute; z-index:0; left:10px; top:10px; } .slidingtext { visibility:visible; position:relative; My page is on: http://www.3003online.com/demos/ecoceylon/v2/ You can see a difference in the "Home - About Us - Products - Contact Us" links when viewing from IE and Mozilla Firefox. Basically, I would like the text to be centered vertically in the bar... but CSS by default puts it on top. I tried adding padding, which helped in IE... but Firefox still shows the links a bit higher than they should be.,... any ideas how to fix this? Also, a different problem in case anyone knows how to fix it... you can see a small brown bar on the top bar. It is 50px in height. But I have no idea how to make its width as wide as the remainder of the page (this would change with different resolutions). The main content of the page is 760px wide. I would like a brown box next to that, which is 50px in height and the remainder width. Any ideas? "width: auto;" doesn't work unfortunately [ this is a follow up to my previous thread http://forums.devshed.com/showthread.php?t=270438 Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much. Here is the basic structure i'm working with: Quote: <div id="header'> header goes here </div> <br clear="all"> <div id="leftbar">dynamically generated content from php here</div> <div id="map"> map here </div> the styles: Quote: #header{ height:42px; width:100%; background-image: url(../images/header/header_spacer.jpg); background-repeat:repeat-x; text-align:right; } div.leftbar{ float:left; width: 400px; height:100%; overflow: scroll; z-index:1; } div.map{ float:left; } The Problem: In all browsers the height of the leftbar is : 100% of the entire page as opposed to 100% of the entire page minus the size of the header element. This causes a scroll bar to appear on the page. Any ideas on how to solve this problem? If I don't define a height of 100% the leftbar div doesn't scroll at all. A good example of what i'm trying to accomplish here is : maps.google.com . Notice how on that site, the left menu bar scrolls, but is always 100% of the remaining page length (after the search stuff on top). thanks in advance. EDIT:: Simplier way to write the question ^.^ :: When I scroll off the menu/link onto the first link in the submenu it stays, but when I mvoe down to the next item in the submenu it disappears. Anybody know how to force a long string of text that doesn't contain any spaces to wrap inside its containing div, and not just sprawl outside of the entire page? I've done some searching and can't seem to find a lot of discussion about this particular problem. If the content contained enough spaces, then the overflow would wrap nicely, but there aren't any. What am I missing here? Thanks This is the line in my index.html: PHP Code: <PRE class=yup>blah blah blah and more blah blah blahblah more blah blah blah yes yes blah blah</PRE> This is my PRE code in style.css: PHP Code: PRE { BORDER-RIGHT: #2f6fab 1px dashed; PADDING-RIGHT: 1em; BORDER-TOP: #2f6fab 1px dashed; PADDING-LEFT: 1em; PADDING-BOTTOM: 1em; BORDER-LEFT: #2f6fab 1px dashed; COLOR: #000000; LINE-HEIGHT: 1.1em; PADDING-TOP: 1em; BORDER-BOTTOM: #2f6fab 1px dashed; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #f9f9f9; width: 90%; } PRE.yup { COLOR: #000000; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; FONT-SIZE: 12px; text-align: left; width: 80%; margin: 12px auto; } The PRE tag is in a table and i want the long text the same lenght as the short text, but i have no clue how to do it. Any ideas? Hello, I'm currently in the works of converting an old HTML site of mine into CSS and have run into what seems to be a notorious problem with the page text not pushing the footer down when the text gets to a certain length. Instead the text just covers and hides the footer. I've been trying to remedy this problem for about a week, but to no avail. I've Googled this problem and tried the suggested fixes, but once again have had no such luck. I'm left to believe that every instance is unique. If you view the Style Sheet, I have the 'footerlinks' set at an "Absolute" position because it looks fine on the other pages and I do relize this will have to be changed. As to what else has to be changed I would really appreciate some input as to what I need to do to get the footer to slide down when the text gets lengthy. ------- Here's a link to the page thats having issues with the footer... *** Note: I keep getting an error message saying I can't post URLs on this forum because I have a new user account so below this line is the link to the page I'm having trouble with without the http:// ........ infoheaven.bravepages.com/Testamonials/Testimonials.htm The URL to the STYLE SHEET is located at the top of the page between the "Head" tags of the website source code I provided above. I tried listing my CSS code here, but once again I kept getting the "New user accounts are not permitted to create posts containing URLs" error message. Sorry for the inconvenience.... Dan - Hi! Have been bashing my head against the wall with this one for a while now, so I thought maybe someone here could help me out a bit. Basicly, this sums up the issue: (sorry for the pure-text link, it didn't allow me to put up a propper one... >.<) http://img205.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cssiebug.png So, what I want is that the search field stays put, no matter how much text is entered into it. This works in all the other browsers, thought it's still a bit buggy, but I think I can fix that. Here is the code that should be of interest in this issue: Code: <div id="bannerContent"> <!--{{{--> <div id="logo"> <a href="<?PHP echo $home ?>" target="_self"></a> </div> <div id="search"> <form> <input type="text" class="searchField" name="uSearchQuery"> <input type="submit" class="searchSubmit" name="uSubmitQuery" value="" onFocus="this.blur()"> </form> </div> <!--}}}--> </div> Code: #bannerContent /*{{{*/ { width: 800px; height: 158px; } #logo /*{{{*/ { background: url("../images/layout/logo.png") no-repeat; width: 394px; height: 56px; position: relative; top: 51px; left: 24px; float: left; } /*}}}*/ #search /*{{{*/ { width: 331px; height: 32px; position: relative; top: 62px; left: 58px; display: inline; float: left; } .searchField { background: url("../images/layout/search_field_bg.png") no-repeat; width: 266px; height: 32px; border: none; outline: none; float: left; <?PHP if (!$agentIE && !$agentFF) echo 'padding-left: 10px;' . "\n"; else echo 'padding: 8px 0 0 10px;' . "\n"; ?> } .searchSubmit { background: url("../images/layout/search_button.png") no-repeat; width: 55px; height: 32px; margin-left: -10px; border: none; outline: none; cursor: pointer; float: left; } /*}}}*/ /*}}}*/ Thanks a bunch in advance! At http://alphaworks.co.uk/problems/non-flowing/ how can I get the three "Address line x" lines to line up under one another and not flow back to the left under the "Address:" label? Thanks, Geoff Is there anyway to stop someone from changing the text size with their browser? Before everyone starts shouting "NO DON'T DO THIS!", I don't want to do it for everything. I have some buttons that are created with CSS and lose the formating when the text size is changed. I tried adding: Code: font-size:8pt; but that didn't work. does anyone know the code for a scroll text box? plz help Hi, I have a webpage that has a fixed background with a header. Thanks for your time and effort. Any help is much appreciated. Can anyone tell me where I can get some info on CSS? Specifically I am trying to create sort of a news page, which will have a box that contains news articles that slowly scroll upwards until they disppear and then raeppear at the bottom at the bottom of the box again. I know this can be done with CSS and I've kind of accomplished what I want. The problem is that I'm using seperate elements for each article title. Therefore, only one article title scrolls through the box at the time since I can only make one element visible. Mabye, it will make more sense when you see my code. I want to basically be able to have the other news article titles begin to scroll underneath each other, not having to wait for the news article title above it to finish scrolling before the next article enters the box. I hope this makes sense! here is the code: <HTML> <HEAD> <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> function init() { nos = 1; items = 6; posY = 130; scroller(); } function scroller() { if (nos == items + 1) { nos = 1; } elemID = 'elem'.concat(nos); objDOM = document.all[elemID].style; objDOM.visibility = "visible"; posY -= 1; objDOM.top = posY; if (posY <= 50) { objDOM.visibility = "hidden"; posY = 130; nos += 1; } setTimeout ("scroller()",10); } // --> </SCRIPT> <STYLE TYPE="text/css"> <!-- #elem1 {position:absolute; visibility:hidden; left:35; top:0; z-index:5} #elem2 {position:absolute; visibility:hidden; left:35; top:0; z-index:5} #elem3 {position:absolute; visibility:hidden; left:35; top:0; z-index:5} #elem4 {position:absolute; visibility:hidden; left:35; top:0; z-index:5} #elem5 {position:absolute; visibility:hidden; left:35; top:0; z-index:5} #elem6 {position:absolute; visibility:hidden; left:35; top:0; z-index:5} #screen {position:absolute; visibility:visible; left: 20px; top:50px; z-index:0} --> </STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY onLoad="init()"> <DIV ID="elem1"><FONT COLOR="#000000"> News & Events- article 1 </FONT></DIV> <DIV ID="elem2"><FONT COLOR="#000000"> News & Events- article 2 </FONT></DIV> <DIV ID="elem3"><FONT COLOR="#000000"> News & Events- article 3 </FONT></DIV> <DIV ID="elem4"><FONT COLOR="#000000"> News & Events- article 4 </FONT></DIV> <DIV ID="elem5"><FONT COLOR="#000000"> News & Events- article 5</FONT></DIV> <DIV ID="elem6"><FONT COLOR="#000000"> News & Events- article 6</FONT></DIV> <DIV ID="screen"> <TABLE WIDTH=350 HEIGHT=120 BORDER=0 BGCOLOR=#808080> <TD></TD></TABLE> </DIV> </BODY> </HTML> Ok...I am dabbling with CSS and I was wondering if there was anyway to specify your text to run bottom to top instead of left to right in a table cell. Anyone know if it can be done? Hi, I've seen a number of posts and web pages about this but so far have NOT found a method that conforms to the w3.orgs css standard. There seems to be a lot of interest in this and l wondered whether anyone has found a work around that is compatible on more browsers than I.E? what is the tag for writing vertical in CSS? I'm trying to get vertical text in a menu ie h o m e - l i n k - And so on how can this be done thanks |
