Stylesheet Doesn't Load Before Html	View Content

On my site I have this on the <head>

	@import url('css/style.css');
</style>

It doesn't happen all the time but like once in a while when the css isn't in my cache my page loads without the stylesheet and like half a second later, the stylesheet loads. I was under the impression that this was the purpose of putting things in the <head> of the html document, so they could load beefore anything else. Anyone ever have these issues?

Just curious to know if my stylesheet is becoming huge, is it better to break it down into multiple sheets or not? Does a huge css page make any difference in loading time if it is being reference outside the html?

Hey guys, please help me out with this, I missed the last day of css in my class and I'm confused, and right now I'm working on my final project.

I'm kinda confused, I want to do a few things from an external stylesheet but I think I have the code wrong. PLEASE HELP!

This stylesheet was developed by volunteers (local students) who weren't asked to design for cross-browser compatibility.

In FF and Netscape the background CSS 'runs out' before the content does (problematic with black background) and there isn't any space between objects (adjoining columns, text etc.).

Because I need to make the fix asap (and I am not well versed in CSS for layout) my options here are a) pay my ISP web team to make the adjustments, b) redesign site templates using tables (which I can do, but I know is regressing) or c) get some specific feedback from you folks. The code does not validate (re. W3C CSS Validator) but I'm not experienced enough in this to know how to fix it.

In the long-term, I am definitely looking to improve my knowledge in this area and appreciate your patience with me.

Body Background-image Does Not Load Image Via Linking To An External Stylesheet

Hi,

I have a question about setting up the Body background-image via a linked external stylesheet.

I have a index.html file and a myStyle.css file. I want to setup the background to load an image file, test.JPG.

When I embed the following in my index.html, I see the background show up:

** inside index.html file **
<BODY STYLE="background-image: url(test.JPG);"> blah </BODY>

BUT, when I define my background in the externally linked myStyle.css file, the background does not load:

** inside myStyle.css file **

Hello--I'm trying to solve a problem that I've never been able to reproduce, but my client insists that it happens for them all the time. We've just launched a new site built on PHP and Smarty Templates (I'm posting on this board because I don't think it's a PHP problem...let me know if I'm wrong about that), but with lots of javascript and css.

My client sent me a screenshot (attached) which shows that all of the stylesheet-formatted text is rendered without formatting...it's coming up Times New Roman with default colors. (Please ignore the blue boxes...I masked the identifying features of the image to protect the innocent :-) ). This goes away upon refresh, but it seems to happen (though never to me) often enough that we're worried about it.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this? I'll be happy to reproduce any code that anyone's interested in, but I wasn't sure where to start and I didn't want to have to display a bunch of irrelevant code. I searched the boards but couldn't find anything.

Alternate Stylesheet Not Inheriting Rules From Default Stylesheet

Hey guys,
I'm new to these forums. I've got experience in CSS but have a few questions that may sound elementary but I can't figure it out and would appreciate any knowledge on this subject.

I can't seem to post URL's as a new user so I will have to explain.

The problem:
I see ID's and classes in a HTML file but they do not exist in the stylesheet. Is anyone familiar with this? Where is the ID getting it's style from?

I am using this css for my entire site, and it all shows up right under IE and Firefox. Konqueror is fine, just wont show the opacity filter. I tried to get it validated, and it doesn't like the opacity lines. First try at an external stylesheet, so could use the help.
I can't find anything on correct syntax to use other than what I have already used.

Firefox Loading Stylesheet Even Though There Is No Stylesheet

I have a very strange problem. My firefox is ignoring the changes I made to the style sheet. I have this in my webpage and the style.css file location is right (one directory up).

<link href="../style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">

Because it's ignoring my new changes, I deleted everything in my style.css file, and the page still displays as though the file exists. However, if I delete the above line, then the page will display without any style.

IE is loading with the changes I made though. I have also checked my stylesheet with the W3C css validation and it has no error.

So, any body know why this is happening?

I've been using the html>body cheat to fix IE issues for over a year now, to fix issues with margins mostly. Lately for some reason, it doesn't seem to work anymore. For the life of me I can't figure out if I'm doing something wrong or not. Here's a sample of what I'm working on right now:

What's going on is I created a 4 x 4 grid of images, when you mouse over them a 5px orange stroke surrounds the image, and when you click the image, the image "enlarges" and gets a 10px red stroke.

It's working great in Firefox, but then in IE, because of the margins, images shift when you mouseover, and the red stroke doesn't appear when you click. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hiya, theres a website I'm creating a print stylesheet for which includes the company logo in the header, with a footer of contact details. problem is, the website is all static pages and 100 odd pages, so as I'm having to deal with the static state of the site for now, is there a way I can have in the Print stylesheet or in the CSS where the logo can be inserted in a header and a footer created with text? hope this makes sense?

Hey,

I've run into a problem where I though i knew how to do it an easy way but it only worked for about 5 minutes.

Here is what I have. All of my pages have the same navigation from an external PHP file. The style is saved in the main.css stylesheet. When you select a link it gets a background image.

I thought that I could save my self having to edit every page for IE by doing this in the main.css stylesheet

This doesn't work. It still uses the PNG images. I'd realy like not to have to edit every page to fix my site for IE, any suggestions would be great.

Hi people,

I am completely new to programming and have only spent this weekend learning it!

I have managed to create a decent website already, however i am stuck at a point. On my main page, i have attached a CSS stylesheet with all the formatting for my page. My problem however is that when i try to format one section (<div id="gallery">) the formatting messes with the rest of the page.

Is there a way that i can assign a style sheet to only that <div id="gallery"> without it applying to the entire html page.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I'm fairly new at web development and pretty much a newbie at using CSS. I noticed on foxnews.com that they use a parameter with the CSS file. I've did searches on this but not turned up alot.

On the one hand Accessibility guidelines state that sites should work even if stylesheets fail to load...

... and then on another hand, you're told not to include any style/layout/formatting within an html page - to use the stylesheet instead.

My question is this. Say i create a site which is arranged in the common layout of header at top, nav menu floated to the left, main content sitting on the right, and then footer below.

Should the layout of the div's, namely the float left etc be within the webpage or the stylesheet.

I guess most people will say stylesheet, but that means if the stylesheet fails to load, the site layout will be completely messed up with the content appearing below the nav menu.

Do you make an exception in this case and include some limited layout-style information in the webpage? What are people's opinions on this?
