My scenario is as follows; I have a css file named default.css under the folder root/css/. Then I have page1.html, page2.html and page2.1.html under the root/, root/page2/, and root/page2/page2.1/ folders respectively. My css is as follows: Code: body { background-image: url('../images/bg.GIF'); } My problem is this. The background image is loaded correctly when visiting page1.html and page2.html however when I visit page2.1.html I can not view the background image. Is this problem because ../images/bg.GIF is not accessable from root/page2/page2.1/ ? (even though the css file is always at root/css/) or? I have attached the example just in case my above explanation was not clear enough. What I would like to achieve is have the same background image loaded on each page. Regards, Sim085 I am wondering how the W3C Markup Validation Service page makes all the text on the page smoothed. I have never seen another web page do this before. This works in Internet Explorer 6, Firefox, and Opera. I'm using Windows XP Professional with the System Properties > Advanced > Performance Options > Visual Effects option of 'Smooth edges of screen fonts' turned on. Disabling this option results in the fonts not being smoothed on the page at all. Usually fonts of 14pt and higher are smoothed out for me, but not when they're lower than this (unless they're bolded)! So how does this page manage to smooth out all the fonts, no matter what the size? I had a look at the page's stylesheets, but couldn't see anything unusual that might be causing this. Does anybody know? I just want a simple way to make all fonts on the page the same. For example, the following does NOT seem to work. Should it? in the style sheet: Code: BODY {font-size: 10px; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #666666; } I also tried putting the font size, color and face in a class and using something like <td class="fontInfo"> But that doesn't seem to work (i get the default browser font--Times.) Any help please thank you. Hi all.. i'm new to php... ive got a php genereated page that i need to display in a css generated font... i can kind of get it to work using the normal <class="font"> at the top of the page but it seems to ignore the pixel size. Am i doing it completely wrong? i need a *simple* solution if thats possible, and without too much jargon much appreciated.. adi Can I make certain hyperlinks to be (eq) red and the others (eq) blue in one page with one css file? style { #test{ margin-left: 5px; margin-top: 9px; font-family: arial; color: black; font-size: 9px; } } <!-- html --> <div id="test"> <span> X Y Z </span> </div> Here is my problem. I am trying to make "Y" bold. but it appears in regular font. I tried following code which doesn't work for me. <span> X <span style="font-weight: bold;">Y</span> Z</span> Thanks I'm making a page and I've got an a:link specification. I want a separate specification for a part of the page under a .header tag. The background on that part of the page doesn't match the a:link color I have specified for the rest of the page. So I want one specifically for the .header tag. Doesn't seem to be working though. How do you think I should throw it in there? Again I am new to CSS so bear with me here...I did search this forum before posting this... I am using a 3 column template, I am having some problems between the "#columns" with the heading <h*> of these columns. as long as each column has a differnt heading size all is well but if two columns have the same size heading I can't seem to be able to make them different colors Hi guys, I'm working on a layout for a client, and I've run into a problem I've never seen before. My code is fully valid CSS (except for the *html IE fixes) and fully valid transitional XHTML, and it works fine in FF, IE and even Safari - but as soon as I load it up in Opera, it breaks completely. The font size is absolutely HUGE for some reason (like 400% of normal!), and it is completely breaking my layout. I have no idea why this would be happening, and it's immensely annoying. I'm setting all of the font sizes throughout the page in ems, and at the start of the css I declare the following: Code: html, body { height: 100%; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-align: center; font: 62.5% Tahoma, Verdana, Arial, Sans-Serif; /* Resets 1em to 10px */ background-color: #000000; } Now this should be fine, and indeed it works in every other browser.. but Opera is wigging the hell out, and I don't know what's wrong. Has anybody ever experienced anything like this? If so, please let me know! I'm hesitant to post the full code because it's covered by a hefty NDA, but I can strip out confidential bits if needed. Thanks everyone! On my website I've a few CSS files that I call. Occasionally a page will load and some text won't properly format... It will be too big. I'll refresh and it will go back to the size it's supposed to be. It's not all the text, just here or there. I've tried this on multiple computers and multiple browsers and it still happens only once in a while. Anyone know what is going on? Is there any way to diagnose this? It SEEMS as if part of the file isn't loading, but that doesn't sound right. Solution included in post below --- thanks. Hi, I am rewriting a series of webpage in CSS. the pages have a two column layout with a top area which has a banner effect. What I would like to do is to have the top and the left div's contain the same info on all pages. So instead of manually putting the contents of these div's in each page I would like to just create the contents in one file say top.html and left.html and load them in each page by using some sort of link. This would make any changes to the contents easy, edit one file instead of many. I am CSS newbie so I would be greatful for any pointers. Thanks, R Haynes I have a page that will not load external CSS. Tested in Firefox and Opera. If I remove the doctype then the CSS loads and affects the page. This is the HTML: Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC '-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN' 'http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd'> <html xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml' xml:lang='en' lang='en'> <head> <title>Insert Notes</title> <meta http-equiv='content-type' content='text/html; charset=utf-8' /> <meta http-equiv='cache-control' content='no-cache' /> <meta http-equiv='pragma' content='no-cache' /> <meta http-equiv='expires' content='0' /> <link rel='stylesheet' type='text/css' href='/test.css' /> </head><body> <h1>Beer</h1> <p>test</p> </body></html> And this is the CSS: Code: body{ background-color: gray;} p { color: blue; } h1{ color: white; } Hello, I need some help. I have a personals website where I am going to start allowing users to personalize their profile page with css. My plan is to store their personal css scripts in a database and when their profile is viewed to dynamically load the css styles per individual. My question is, how do I implement this? How would I load style scripts from the database onto their page? One question that may negate my above question is...is this the best way to implement this type of feature (profile personalization)? I beleive css is powerful and probably the best way to go but I am open to anyone elses ideas for css implementation. Thank you very much for your time and help. Just wondering if there is such code that when you click something it replaces a certain item to a different item? Or is it Javascript? Any websites that feature this? Hi, I have this strange issuewhich is only happening in IE7. When the page loads, the scroll bars begin to flicker. It stops after the page loads completely. And if the page is loading after an ajax request, it scroll bars keep flickering even after ajax response is completed. Please let me know if anyone has any answers to this issue. The HTML is as follows: <div id="db-overlay-popup-box" class="overlay-popup-box"> <div id="database-list-popup"><form>....</form></div></div> The CSS used for the div elements is given below. #db-overlay-popup-box { min-height: 200px; height: 400px; position: absolute; width: 40%; margin-left: 30%; top: 15em; border: 2px solid #3282b6; z-index: 999; padding: 10px; background-color: #fff; } #databaselist-databases { list-style-type : none; clear: both; overflow: auto; position: absolute; width: 90%; margin-left: 1em; padding-left: 1em; right: 1em; white-space: nowrap; } .overlay-popup-box { position: absolute; z-index: 999; width: 40%; margin-left: 30%; border: 2px solid #3282b6; padding: 10px; background-color: #fff; } Hey all, I have a webpage w/a top, left column, and content column. The page has been designed using CSS. Is there anyway to load a seperate HTML page (of which I have no control) in my content column and keep the top (and possibly left) columns in place? Is there a way to do this w/CSS? (Basically I want frame functionality using CSS). So far my instincts say no... but before I spend too much time on solution I thought I'd check here. Thanks! BB Hello, Here's a link to a very short video (MOV format) showing the issue that I'm having. I'm guessing that it's CSS related. It seems like the screen update shouldn't be so obvious. The graphics involved are very small, as well. What could be causing this? Thanks for any help! blendernewbies dot com slash tmp slash screen_update_issue dot mov EDIT: well, it seems I can't post links! How am I supposed to accurately convey the issue without wasting people's time trying to describe it? Sigh. I will try to post the link in a written out format. I hope it doesn't violate anything doing it that way. The video is hosted on my own server and is about 800KB. Thanks. Hi all, I have written a page with jsp and ajax to dynamically load page contents. I also added a hidden "processing.." message image with the following code: Code: <img src="<%=IMAGE_BASE_URL%>/processing-img.gif" id="processing" style="display:none;z-index:2;position:relative;top:250;right:-250"> this img tag was placed right after the <body> tag. When the user clicks on a link, I turned this css property to display:block so that it shows in the middle of the page. But strangely, when it is showing the processing message image, the entire page content after the <img> tag was shifted down a bit and showing an empty row! Does anybody know what's wrong with it? I've tried to change the display to inline using javascript but it still won't help... Any help would be appreciated..thanks.. Hi Guys, I'm building some forms, and when they are submitted, I'd like to integrate a method that will fade out the screen a bit, and show an animated "processing" .gif. Basically when the "submit" button is pressed, the form is being submitted to it's destination. The page will hang on the form until the next page is ready to load. While it's hanging there after submitting, I'd like the screen to fade out, and display an image in the center of the screen. I'm hoping this can be achieved with CSS, as I try to use as little Javascript as possible. What's the best way to achieve this? I figure if anything a javascript "onsubmit" function will be a good start. Can the screen be faded with CSS? if i upload a load of different fonts to my web server, i presume i need to link them to CSS, before i can use them. how do i do this? if not, what do i need to do instead? |
