CSS - Css Menu Doesnt Highlight For Marked Sections, Id Class Links
Hello,
I can't seem to figure out how to make my CSS drop down menu work the way I want it to. I am using an id in the body tag and a class in the navigatin links so the style sheet will mark what section of the site you are in by making the background change color. This works. The problem is, now that I have the sections being marked, the highlight no longer works. How can I get the highlight to work in the section you are in? I have been experimenting for hours but I can't make it work. http://www.tpxdesign.com/test/Valliant/alpha/index7.php My nav menu code and nav style sheet: Code: <![endif]-->

Portfolio

Demo Reel/s

Shorts

Music Video

Commercial

Misc. Most of the links in my document are set to #ffffff, because they have a dark background. I have 'content' section that I want to show blue links. I tried adding the following code into my style sheet: PHP Code: a.content:link { color: #0000FF; text-decoration: underline; } a.content:visited { color: #0000FF; text-decoration: underline; } a.content:hover { background-color: #6666FF; text-decoration: underline; } And nothing!? (apart from the layout crapped up!!!!) Could someone point me in a better direction? Full CSS below! Jquery is applying the class to the correct a selector but the border is not being removed? if I change the css to "border: 1px solid black" it applies the border to the whole of menu 1 but the left border still stays WHITE? the css class is: .removeBorder { border:0; } the menu CSS is: Code: ul.navigation-1 li a, ul.navigation-1 li a:link, ul.navigation-1 li a:visited { padding:4px 10px; display:block;text-decoration:none; border-left:1px solid #ffffff;color:#ffffff; width:100%; height:13px; } If i remove the border-left attribute from here, the border goes away.. and via Jquery I am targetting the A.. so what is the problem? Just a FYI: html code: Code:

Products

A-Z List

Hi folks. Long time lurker, first time poster. I've got some navigational menus that look great and work well in Firefox and Opera, but there are some odd issues in Internet Explorer. (I'm currently testing with IE7, but am fairly certain the same problems occur on IE6.) Interesting. The system won't let me put the URL in my post as I'm a new user, but this works... The URL for my test page is at a machine named www in the domain bobramstad.com and has the filename menu.html Just run that all together and you'll find the page OK. I'd cut and paste it here but I use a lot of whitespace and the file is kind of long, easier to hit the URL and view source it. For some unknown reason, under IE7, when I highlight any of the entries on the left which have submenus, the formatting of the main entry jumps around. It's odd. I have my own theories as to why this is happening, but frankly, none of them have panned out, or at least, I'm not sophisticated enough to hit on the right solution. FWIW, the current version of our home page uses an older mix of javascript and CSS which is not compatible with Safari or Opera and is also a bit clunky. Strangely, however, it looks fine in Firefox and IE, which might provide some clues as to what I'm doing wrong. I've been looking at this literally for three weeks, on and off, and have made some strides... the last problem is main menu jumping around when hover occurs... Any and all help gratefully received! -- Bob I'm a CSS newbie, so forgive me if I'm going about this the wrong way entirely. I'm trying to build a website with a menu that changes the source of an iFrame. So I have: Code:

**MENU**

Clicking a menu item, say "Contact Us", changes the src of the iFrame using: Code: Contact Us The menu is pure CSS, with each item underlining as it's rolled over, and some submenus that show up when hovering. What I'm looking to do is have the selected menu item have a different text color. So when you click "Contact Us", that item will change color and stay that other color while navigating the ContactUs.htm page in the iFrame. Is that even remotely do-able? I saw some examples where you use body classes and id's to match the id of the menu item to the body class of the related page. However, I think that would require loading completely separate pages (with the same menu, header, and footer code). I want to avoid the entire page flickering when changing content. I don't seem to be able to access the body class value of the page being loaded in the iFrame. Is that possible to do? Thanks for any guidance you all could offer. I have created a dropdown menu for my site. The dropdown works great in Firefox, safari and opera but it does not drop down in IE. The menu is displaying ok in IE but when you hover over a tab nothing happens. This is the link http://www.misi.co.uk/2_template.php There are two menus "navigation" which is the bottom category menu in grey and "navigation_blue" - which is the top bue tabs. I have the same problem with both menus. I normally hash around to get IE to function as I wish however only having a mac infront of me its a bit of a pain as I have to ring a friend to check IE for me, if anyone knows of a browser test that allows you to check functions in IE please let me know, I use a couple but only get screen shots so its fine for layout checks but no good at testing drop down menus and the like. Code: /* Categories Bottom MENU */ #navigation {width:985px;height:50px;margin-top:-27px;} #navigation ul {margin-left: -40px; text-align:center;} #navigation li {height:21px;float: left; text-align:center;position: relative;background: url(/images/top-tab-lgt.png) no-repeat} #navigation * {cursor: pointer;} #navigation li a {text-align:center;width:87px;float:left; color:#333333; font-size:5px; display: block; padding-left:2px;padding-top:2px; text-decoration: none; } #navigation li a span {float: left; display: block; line-height: 21px; height: 21px; padding: 0 6px 0 1px;} .os_windows #navigation li a span {padding: 0 0px 0 0px} #navigation li a {color: #000000; font-size: 11px; font-weight: 100; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; } #navigation li a:hover {color: white; background-color: #e2e0e1;} #navigation li {list-style:none;} #navigation li:hover .navigation_hover, #navigation li.hover .navigation_hover {visibility: visible;} #navigation .navigation_hover { width: auto; position: absolute; top: 18px; left: -40px; margin: 0px; display: block; visibility: hidden; border-top: 0; z-index: 4; } #navigation .navigation_hover li {float: left} #navigation .navigation_hover li a { float: none; padding: 0 2px; line-height: 21px; width: 110px; background: #e2e0e1; color: #000000; border: 0; } #navigation .navigation_hover li a:hover { background: #cc205c; color: white; } /* TOP TABS */ #blue_navigation {height:50px; text-align:right; margin-left: 265px; margin-top:-5px;} #blue_navigation ul {text-align:right; } #blue_navigation li {height:40px; float: left; position: relative;list-style:none;background: url(/images/top-tab-blue.png) no-repeat;} #blue_navigation * {cursor: pointer;} #blue_navigation li a {width:135px; float: left; color:#333333; font-size:10px; display: block; text-align:center;padding-top:5px; text-decoration: none; } #blue_navigation li a span{width:135px; float: left; color:#333333; font-size:10px; display: block; text-align:center;padding-top:5px; text-decoration: none; } #blue_navigation li {list-style:none;} #blue_navigation li a:hover {color: #0D7DC7; background: url(/images/top-tab-hblue.png) no-repeat} #blue_navigation li:hover .blue_navigation_hover, #blue_navigation li.hover .blue_navigation_hover {visibility: visible;} .os_windows #blue_navigation li a span {padding: 0 0px 0 0px} #blue_navigation .blue_navigation_hover { float: none; position: absolute; text-align:left; width: auto; left: -40px; height:21px; margin-top: 20px; display: block; visibility: hidden; z-index: 4; } #blue_navigation .blue_navigation_hover li {float: left} #blue_navigation .blue_navigation_hover li a { float: none; left: -85px; padding-top: 0px; line-height: 20px; color: #7c7c7c; border: 0; } I have a full page menu which resizes. eg item1 | item2 | item3 | item4 | item5 | item6 Which resizes depening on the window size. However if you shrink the window X ways, it does the following item1 | item2 | item3 | item4 | item5 | item6 how can I stop it wrapping the items to new lines heres my code. Code: #menu2 { display : inline; white-space : nowrap; width: 100%; margin: 1em 0; padding: 0px 0.5em; background: #eee none; } #menu2 ul { display : inline; white-space : nowrap; margin: 0; padding: 0; list-style-type: none; } #menu2 li { display : inline; white-space : nowrap; margin: 0; padding: 0; float: left; } #menu2 li { white-space : nowrap; display : inline; width: 24%; text-align: center; } #menu2 a { float:left; display:block; margin: 2px 0 0; text-decoration: none; padding-right: 0.4em; padding-left: 0.65em; } and Code:

Item 1

Item 2

Item 3

Item 4

Im using this to make an onscroll effect Code: table.left {border-collapse:collapse; float:left; margin-left:10px; margin-right:10px; background:#8f8f8f; padding:5px; color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; text-decoration:none; } td {padding-right:10px; padding-left:10px; padding-top:8px; padding-bottom:8px;} td.bg:hover { background:url(images/yellow.png); padding-right:10px; padding-left:10px; padding-top:8px; padding-bottom:8px; } And the links don't format with the typical css markup Code: a:active {color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; text-decoration:none;} a:link {color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; text-decoration:none;} a:hover {color:#000000; font-family:Verdana; text-decoration:none;} Ive tried a couple different things like making td.bg:link, td.bg:active with the specifications->no luck Note:this is in IE Nevermind...I just figured it out..used a link class and set the visited attribute hi im trying to add the class "current" from this menu Code: http://www.cssplay.co.uk/menus/pro_dropline.html second example Quote: ...with top level 'current selection' tab to this menu Code: http://www.cssplay.co.uk/menus/pro_left_right_line.html appreciate any help Well I have this code for my menu

Here is the out put http://blacknine.dajoob.com/hhd/ Hi, everybody I'm trying to attached the CSS code you see below to the HTML/PHP code all the way at the bottom. I have tried renaming the ID to Class and replacing navigation with menu1 but no luck. How would I go about attaching this piece of CSS to the code below? Code: .menu1 {padding:0 0 0 32px; margin:0; list-style:none; height:37px; background:#fff url(button1.gif); position:relative; border:0px solid #000; border-width:0 1px; border-bottom:1px solid #444;} .menu1 li {float:left;} .menu1 li a {display:block; float:right; height:37px; line-height:37px; color:#aaa; text-decoration:none; font-size:13px; font-family:arial, verdana, sans-serif; font-weight:bold; text-align:center; padding:0 0 0 8px; cursor:pointer;} .menu1 li a b {float:left; display:block; padding:0 16px 0 8px;} .menu1 li.current a {color:#fff; background:url(button3.gif);} .menu1 li.current a b {background:url(button3.gif) no-repeat right top;} .menu1 li a:hover {color:#fff; background:#000 url(button2.gif);} .menu1 li a:hover b {background:url(button2.gif) no-repeat right top;} .menu1 li.current a:hover {color:#fff; background:#000 url(button3.gif); cursor:default;} .menu1 li.current a:hover b {background:url(button3.gif) no-repeat right top;} How do I attach the above CSS to the HTML/PHP piece below? I took a basic menu code and have edited it a bit for my site, but I am having an issue here. The menu shows a simple background per line as well as a top graphic and bottom graphic for the top and bottom (duh). If I have one link per line, all is fine, but I am trying to fit 7 links on one line, each link being a single letter. I want it to look like this: Browse by Letter: a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z But when I add more than one link inbetween the
's, it puts each link on a separate line. The drop-down currently looks OK in Mozilla/Firefox. Presently, it does not work in either IE 6 or IE 7. You can see the drop down HERE I have noticed that when you alter the URL in this line of code, inside the href attribute (for example): Code:
Computer Hardware (1)
...sometimes the menu will work (or break) in ANY given browser (IE or Mozilla)... Try substituting different values for the href attribute inside the link. Depending on the href value, sometimes the code works, and sometimes it doesn;t (in either IE or Mozilla). Something screwy is going on with the href attribute, but I can;t tell what it is. Any help is appreciated. Hi... I am not a coder, Im new at this. Im not even really sure how to explain my problem either, so bear with me, please. I am working on a theme for a site that allows you to edit the css style applied to the page, like myspace.com. Unfortunately there are limitations to this, like how many section IDs there are and such. In order to make a custom page, I am using ordered lists in BBcode. In forefox, I was able to move the ordered lists outside of their section by using positioning, but unfortunately in IE, it would not allow this. Basically the lists would be hidden/invisible outside of the section element parameters. So, again in order to work around this, I made the section the ordered lists were in cover the entire page. Firefox handled this fine, and the elements on the page worked together so long as text was not right on top of links etc. IE, no such luck. The links in another section do not activate even though they are not visually overlapping. This creates a problem for me, as I will now need to make another ordered list to create links which will activate. Is there a way I can get around this? Because I have a section which covers the entire page in IE, and overlaps onto other sections, I'm looking for code which will allow the sections in IE to overlap without causing one section or the other to behave incorectly. Anyway, here is the link to my page so you can see what I mean. The links in question are the little glowy circles. They work in firefox, but they only appear in IE and will not act as links. Any help would be appreciated. I dont mind re-doing the code and the lists in order to avoid adding more code to create links which work. http://www.gaiaonline.com/profile/index.php?view=profile.ShowProfile&item=305091 Thanks Kim Hello, I'm still playing around with CSS and I put together this test, to see if I could create tabs on a page.... The problems im trying to figure out are as follows.... 1. This code displayed in Firefox, works as i'd expect. But under the dreaded IE, it displays the tabs diagonally down the page. I know that IE doesn't work as it should, but how do I get the tabs to look the same in IE as they do in Firefox (ie... display them correctly!) 2. The tabs are meant to sit right on top of the section of orange. Using the BR tag (commented in script), I can get it to move down a little bit - but how do I achieve positioning the section box right underneath the tabs using CSS? All help is appreciated! JT p.s. Attached a screenie of the browser output for reference! Hi, my css drop down menu seems to be working fine in firefox, but there are a few problems in IE. It didn't even work in IE7 until I added Code: 1. In IE7, if you first hover over the link to get the drop down menu to show, move away, then hover over the menu again, it will show the blank sub menus of the one you last have opened. This is hard to explain. Please see my webpage for what I mean. http://ling.twinner.com.tw/uselink/index.php Move your mouse to the Products link at the top. 2. My menu seems to load slow. Is it because I have many sub menus or is my css not efficient? 3. How do I set the sub menu height to auto? Here is my css: http://ling.twinner.com.tw/uselink/menu_style.css Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Hi all, I have a 2-column layout for my web pages plus a header and footer section. The left column contains a navigation menu (which grows and shrinks depending on the current menu selection), and the right column contains the main text and other information. I float the nav menu left. No problem. But when the footer is displayed (and I have set "clear: both" on the footer element to try and keep it at the bottom), it will appear somewhere in the middle of the menu in cases where the menu is long (vertically) and the main content area contains only a few lines of text. My current method to drop the footer below the menu is very klunky, and probably what most people do (unless they know of a better way). Yes, the series of
tags before printing the footer. Is there a better way of ensuring that the footer is placed where it should (below all other content) so I don't have to insert all those
tags? My CSS for the page layout is: Code: #doc { /* Main document area */ margin-left: 5%; margin-right: 5%; margin-top: 5px; border: solid 1px #900; } #logo { text-align: center; background: #c30000; } #main { margin-left: 150px; margin-right: 0%; padding: 10px; border-left: solid 1px #c00; background: #fff; color: #000; } #nav { position: absolute; margin-left: 0%; float: left; padding: 0px; border: 0px; top: 110px; width: 150px; /* Same as margin-left setting in #main */ color: #000; } #footer { clear: both; margin-left: 0%; margin-right: 0%; border-bottom: 2px solid #906; background-color: #c00; color: #ddd; font-weight: bold; text-align: center; line-height: 1.5; } And a typical html page would be structured thusly: Code:

Is my CSS coding incorrect, or is this a universal problem? Any help/suggestions will be much appreciated. i have just finished making a site for a collective of illustrators I belong to, and now I'm hearing back that some people are having trouble with it. It's at www.illustratorselbow.com (I'm not allowed to post a url without spaces!) & i'm hoping people might be able to have a look at it & view the source and help me out. If you click on somebody's name, you see the thumbnails on the right and the image on the left. When you compress the window, the thumbnails jump about and shrink. I want to make it so this can't happen- I'd rather that the section with the main image in it compressed a bit, or would side-scroll. Any idea how to do this? I'm pretty new to CSS too so I don't really know how to fix this. It's just a drag because on computers with smaller screens/resolutions, the thumbnails look really messy. (Bear in mind that I have extremely basic knowledge of html/css/php, i hand code rather than use dreamweaver etc, and I've never used php or css before this site. I started using it because I keep hearing that frames are bad news nowadays, but it's been sooo much trouble with my limited abilities... alas) I'm not sure if we are allowed to post urls here or not, didn't see anything against it but I'm sure someone will inform me if we can or can't. Anyways I'm having problems getting the "current" class to work for the active page. I want the current page to use the rollover id. This is a code snippet that should be enough to figure out how I am doing my navigation. I am using a single image and shifting it depending on the state it's in. CSS Code: Original - CSS Code .nav1 {float:left; position:relative;display:block;} .nav1 li {margin:0px; padding:0px; display:inline;} .nav1 li a {height:30px; float:left; list-style:none;} a span { position: absolute; left: -999em; }/*This hides span text for when CSS is supported*/ #home a{ float:left; background-image: url(images/nav_main_1.png); display: block; height: 30px; width: 132px; text-decoration: none; background-position: 0px -31px; } } #home a:hover, a.current{ background-image: url(images/nav_main_1.png); background-position: 0px 0px; } #news a{ float:left; background-image: url(images/nav_main_2.png); display: block; height: 30px; width: 131px; text-decoration: none; background-position: 0px -31px; } #news a:hover, a.current { background-image: url(images/nav_main_2.png); background-position: 0px 0px; } .nav1 {float:left; position:relative;display:block;} html4strict Code: Original - html4strict Code

Home

News

Any help is greatly appreciated, I would imagine I am missing something simple. I have this: Code: img.decor{ text-decoration:none; border:#CCCCCC thin solid; padding: 4px; } My HTML: Code: when I hover over the image "decor" in my CSS, I would like the whole image to turn grey. I tried this: Code: img.decor a:hover{background-color:#CCCCCC;} but it doesn't work. Any ideas?? I just start learning CSS. thanks This is what i am using as my page, and i only want to highlight the top part i.e only test and not the lowers. when i include the current page highlight class to the menu the whole section is highlighted, is there a way to highlight just the li and not the ul under the li that are contained within the same class.
