CSS - Css Spacing Between Table Rows?
I'm trying to cleanup my html code by using more css.
What would be correct way to replace spacing between table rows like this one: Code: <tr><td> </td></tr> to something "css" Thanks! Similar TutorialsHello - I am attempting to create a table of values that will have a relative style sheet that will contain a circle background image and number relative to said value. The numbers are only being added for during the creation of requirements to reference the values. The current procedure is to create the HTML, then take a screenshot of it, and manually in a photo editor (or visio) to go in and add the numbers. (So, if we have to add another value, I have to go back in and manually update the numbers and shift everything around). I figure this would be a MUCH better way, since I can just change the visibility on the style sheet and 'poof' the numbers are all gone :-), and when I need to do a screen shot, 'wham' their back again :-D. Here is an example of what I ideally want to achieve (created w/ Visio): Ideal Table Look However, here is what I am currently experiancing Here's the style sheet that I'm using Code: <style type="text/css"> div.number { visibility:visble; position: relative; width: 20px; height: 20px; z-index: 2; left: 5px; bottom: 35px; text-align: center; text-vertical-align: center; font-family: arial; font-size: 8pt; background-image: url(circle.gif); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position:0px -1px background:none; border-style:none; border-width:none; } </style> - All of the number/circles are shifted (which isn't a major problem I can probably solve the location issue myself), but the more important item that's giving me problems is the re-formatting of my Table. I would like to have the image/numbers 'hover' outside of the table cells. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance. Dave Hi, I made an intranet webpage using PHP, MySQL, some JavaScript (collapsible 'windows') and CSS. In IE8 it looks like the image on the left. In Firefox 3.6 it looks like the image on the right. The rows are actually separate div elements, with tables inside them; this seemed to be the only way I could get the collapsible animation script to work without error. Without subjecting myself to the humiliating scrutiny of my appalling coding, is there any obvious tip towards making the table on the left appear a little more like the table on the right? The reason why I want to use IE8 to view this page is, in part, to take advantage of its ability to link to folders on the file system - something that Firefox cannot do (at least not without some customizing). I hope that makes sense and, as always, any help appreciated. i have tried margins and padding but its not working! Code: .contenttable { font-family: Verdana; font-size: 12px; color: #606060; } .contenttable tr { margin-top:10px; margin-bottom:10px; padding-top:10px; padding-bottom:10px; } the table is here. any ideas how i can improve it otherwise, after the <tr> margins are fixed? Hi, I am using nested tables in order to create a recursive tree-like effect. I got it to look how I want on IE 8, and it looks almost identical in Firefox. However, Chrome is not distributing table rows evenly. It seems to make the first row in a table a minimum size, and then the second row a maximum size. I'm looking for some css property that will help this to work across all three browsers, and I'm also open to another way of doing this - (instead of nested tables) - but I did spend weeks getting it to look this way before I decided I wanted to try tackling Chrome, and have been unable to figure it out. Here is a simple example that clearly demonstrates what I'm trying to get working on Chrome. (as a new user I can't post a url to the working page I have up on the internet) Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>Firefox Vs Chrome - table rows - found @ http://jacob.jrobertsons.com/FirefoxVsChromeRows.html</title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=iso-8859-1" /> <style type="text/css"> table { border-collapse: collapse; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: solid 0px blue; } td { border-collapse: collapse; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: solid 0px black; } .l { border-left: 1px solid #c82; } .b { border-bottom: 1px solid #c82; width: 15px; } .t { border-top: 1px solid #c82; } .n { padding-bottom: 4px; border: 1px solid #c82; } </style> </head> <body> <table> <tr> <td rowspan="4"> <table> <tr> <td class="n" rowspan="2">AAA<br /> AAA<br /> AAA<br /> AAA<br /> AAA<br /> </td> <td class="b"> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> </tr> </table> </td> <td class="b"> </td> <td rowspan="2"> <table> <tr> <td rowspan="4"> <table> <tr> <td class="n" rowspan="2">BBB<br /> BBB<br /> BBB<br /> BBB<br /> BBB<br /> BBB<br /> BBB<br /> BBB<br /> BBB<br /> </td> <td class="b"> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> </tr> </table> </td> <td class="b"> </td> <td rowspan="2"> <table> <tr> <td rowspan="0"> <table> <tr> <td class="n" rowspan="2">CCC</td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> <tr> <td class="l"> </td> </tr> <tr> <td class="b l"> </td> <td rowspan="2"> <table> <tr> <td rowspan="0"> <table> <tr> <td class="n" rowspan="2">DDD<br /> DDD<br /> DDD<br /> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> <tr> <td class="l"> </td> </tr> <tr> <td class="b l"> </td> <td rowspan="2"> <table> <tr> <td rowspan="2"> <table> <tr> <td class="n" rowspan="2">EEE</td> <td class="b"> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> </tr> </table> </td> <td class="b"> </td> <td rowspan="2"> <table> <tr> <td rowspan="0"> <table> <tr> <td class="n" rowspan="2">FFF<br /> FFF<br /> FFF<br /> FFF<br /> FFF<br /> FFF<br /> FFF<br /> FFF<br /> FFF<br /> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> </tr> </table> </body> </html> Thanks for any help you can provide! I'm having some problems with CSS. If you look at the pictures below, the first is a screenshot of what it is supposed to look like. It's how it looks in most browsers. The second one, however, is how it looks in IE 6 on Windows and IE 5 on the Mac. It is wrong. Correct look Incorrect look I want to know how to fix this. The little colored boxes are supposed to be squares and have solid borders on them. The shape is off and the borders are missing on the IE version. Also, on the progress bar, there is not supposed to be space between the cells but there is. There is also space between every cell on the page and there is not supposed to be any. Here is my main CSS: Code: body { background-color: #FFFFFF; } a { text-decoration: none; font-weight: bold; } a:link { color: #003366; background-color: transparent; } a:visited { color: #003300; background-color: transparent; } a:active { color: #339933; background-color: transparent; } a:hover { text-decoration: underline; } table { border: 1px solid black; border-collapse: separate; border-spacing: 0px;} td, th { border: 0px solid black; padding: 5px; text-align: center; white-space: nowrap; } tr.one { background-color: #FFFFFF; } tr.two { background-color: #DDDDDD; } table.squares { border: 0px; border-spacing: 1px; width: 50px; height: 10px; } td.square { border: 1px solid grey; padding: 4px; } td.nopadding { padding: 0px; } .default { font-family: Verdana, Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10px; color: #000000; } .h1 { font-size: 200%; font-weight: bold; text-align: center;} .h2 { font-size: 120%; font-weight: bold; } .h3 { font-weight: bold; } .step { font-size: 150%; font-weight: bold; color: #999999; } Here is one of the sets of squares: Code: <table class="squares"> <tr> <td class="square" style="background-color: #CCCC66"></td> <td class="square" style="background-color: #CC9966"></td> <td class="square" style="background-color: #990000; border: black"><td> <td class="square" style="background-color: #669966"></td> <td class="square" style="background-color: #669999"></td> </tr> </table> And finally, here is one of my progress bars: Code: <table style="color: white; width: 100px"> <tr> <td style="padding:0px; text-align: right; padding-right: 5px; background-color:#222244; width:41px"></td> <td style="padding:0px; text-align: left; padding-left: 5px; background-color:#666666; width:59px">40.7%</td> </tr> </table> And in case that code is not enough, here is a link to the full HTML. According to this CSS test my CSS is not wrong. So does IE just suck? Is there something I can do to make it work in all browsers? My last question is, should I be using div tags for my boxes and progress bars instead of tables? I couldn't figure out how to make them work with divs so I just went with what I knew. Could someone give me an example of each using divs so I can learn how to make it work? This is starting to bug me this problem, but on my site www.readinginfo.co.uk the background image (inner shadow and small gradient) at the top is playing up. It doesn't seem to want to align all the way over to the left, however as is always the way, it is working in firefox, ie7, 8 and safari. I've tried some of the ie6 fixes mentioned but I have the sneakiest of feelings that it is to do with the form element (the search box), positioning absolutely just bumps it over to the side. Thanks in advance for any reply!! Hello All, I wanted to ask a question. I'm having trouble with spacing between two divs. Here's the site I'm working on: johnraymondonline.com/mjbfoundation/ The problem is that I'm trying to put a 20pixel margin between the bottom footer div (that contains "test test") and the div just above it. I'm not having much luck at all. I've done a clear and also have checked the divs several times to see if I've missed any. I've even put a div between with some height and that doesn't work. I'm not sure if one of the div's above it has a fixed height. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Hi there, we have created the following list menu and we want to reduce the space between the left hand page margin, and the disc, at the 1st part of the text closer. Example: This is what we see now. | Text Here Example: This is what we would like to see. | Text Here Any suggestions? ul a, li a{ margin:0; padding:0; } Thanks for taking the time to read my question. The contents in my .ContentContainer are positioned differently in IE6 and FF. I want them to look like FF. What is wrong with my CSS that makes IE6 have more space on the left side of the green globe than FF? My goal is to have the 2 blue vertical lines line up. They line up in FF and IE7, but not in IE6. www.scopicdesigns.com/ZoneAll/index.htm Thanks, Brad I am new to doing layouts in CSS and have a page (on an existing site) that I just did using CSS. Hi Guys I am having trouble trying to work out a bug that is creating a space between two div containers. To see what i mean click here for web page the css can be viewed here in firefox the two containers appear correctly but in internet explorer there is a 10px space between them. Could it have something to do with the background images? The div containing the login form also drops down in ie and i am convinced this is related to the main problem i am facing. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is. Any help would be much appreciated! I have a drop down menu that works great in Chrome but in IE 9 I am getting spaces between my images for my navigation bar. My HTML is as follows... HTML Code: <ul id="nav"> <li><a href="#"><img src="../../images/global/header/home_btn.jpg" width="77" height="29" border="0" /></a> <ul> <li><a href="#" style="color:#000;">About Asthma</a></li> <li><a href="#" style="color:#000;">Treatment</a></li> <li><a href="#" style="color:#000;">Taking Control</a></li> <li><a href="#" style="color:#000;">Lifestyle</a></li> <li><a href="#" style="color:#000;">Resources & Support</a></li> </ul></li> <li><img src="../../images/global/header/spacer01.jpg" width="17" height="29" border="0" /></li> <li><a href="#"><img src="../../images/global/header/kids_btn.jpg" width="66" height="29" border="0" /></a></li> <li><img src="../../images/global/header/spacer01.jpg" width="17" height="29" border="0" /></li> <li><a href="#"><img src="../../images/global/header/allergy_btn.jpg" width="67" height="29" border="0" /></a></li> <li><img src="../../images/global/header/spacer01.jpg" width="17" height="29" border="0" /></li> </ul></li></ul> I have tried everything in my CSS to eliminate the spacing between the image files with no luck. Does anyone see what I am doing wrong here? On this page: http://www.poweredpages.com/newtarget/ctia/ there's an spacing problem in IE. Hover over one of the links on the main bar to get the sub link tray. Hover over the first two links in a vertical set, and it will work fine. Hover over the THIRD link, and in that link and any link below it there's extra padding on the top of it. But all these links have the exact same CSS associated with them. Very odd. Works fine in FF. Here's the code and the CSS: Code: <div id="showtray" class="tray" onmouseout="hide('showtray','linkinfo')" onmouseover="show('showtray','linkinfo')"> <div class="traynav"> <ul> <li><a href="/info/">General Information</a></li> <li><a href="/info/registration_packages.cfm">Registration Prices & Policies</a></li> <li><a href="/info/keynote_sessions.cfm">Keynote Sessions</a></li> <li><a href="/exhibit/">Exhibit Floor</a></li> <li><a href="/info/ed_sessions.cfm">CTIA Educational Sessions</a></li> </ul> </div> <!-- 5 links to a column ONLY! I have three a footer, with 3 nav word groupins..ie, join our newsletter, site map, about me....i need to space them evenly across the bottom of the footer - one on the left, one to the right and one in the center, using CSS. I'm a newbie to CSS. =) so bear with me.....i jsut don't know what piece of code i'm looking for! do i set a margin for the class style and on the middle word have it have so much of a margin to the left and right? or padding? or ....there's so much to choose from, i'm not quite sure what's the best (read easiest) solution to get them apart. help? thanks! carrie Well, I am stumped as they say. I have a horizontal menu bar which I am unable to get it to display with the same amount of space above and below it with IE and firefox. So if you would take a look at this page http://www.cacct.com/new/mission.php and here is the style sheet http://www.cacct.com/new/css/sitestyle.css The menu content is called by a php include. Notice the difference between IE and firefox. What I would like is the same amount of light blue above and below. Things I have tried... Adjusting the padding and margins to header and maincontent. Tried placing the menu bar in a div but in Firefox the bar actually hangs over the bottom edge of the div. I put a border around the div so I could see it. In IE it is contained within the div (though it is a bit too long for a single line there so wraps around). This probably wouldn't work anyway since the menu is a drop down and needs to overlap the maincontent. Just to look at it, I moved the menu bar up to different places. Inside the header below the address still same problem. Between the logo and address same problem. When I move it to the top, above the logo it appears to be the same distance from the top of the border. So, anyone have any ideas on how to get that spacing the same? tk Hi, q)I have a horizontal menu of 4 text buttons on top on screen and another bit of text on the left of it . I have a text element on far left and 4 text elements on far right . The whole section is in a div tag which displays it in a horizontal bar of 10% height. To place the text elements of far right I use float but this displays it on line below where i want it. I want text on far left and menu on far right (no spaces between each link) all in the same line. Code: #t1 a {font-size:10px; font-family:verdana; font-weight:bold; border:1px outset aqua; background-color:aqua; color:#000000; text-decoration:none; display:inline; width:15% word-spacing: 0; } ... <div id="t1"> This is the place where the logo goes <a href="#">Java Script</font></a> <a href="#">Dynamic HTML</font></a> <a href="#">Java Script</font></a> <a href="#">Dynamic HTML</font></a> </div> I have a division on my web page. I've set the width to 800 and the height to 100. Inside of the division I have 3 nested divisions The first holds a logo and is positioned absolutely within the wrapping division so that it appears on the left side. The division has a background image and the word "HTML" that is centered both vertically and horizontally within the nested division. The second nested division is positioned so that the text within it appears in the upper right of the wrapper. The third nested division is positioned so that the text displays in the lower right hand. The problem is that in IE I am getting alot of white space between the bottom of the wrapper and the bottom of the third nested division. This does not happen in firefox. Can anyone tell me what is hapening here. In IE, there is a space between my div's. Can someone help me fix it? Attached is a sample htm and graphics or see he PHP Code: <div id="red" align="center"> <img src="red.gif" width="500" height="100"> </div> <div id="blue" align="center"> <img src="blue.gif" width="500" height="100"> </div> Thanks. I'm stumbling through learning CSS with the help of some great people (here and elsewhere), and I've almost got a complete, working template, but I'm having a problem with (surprise) IE. I'm using nav boxes on the left and the right, and within the nav boxes I'm using unordered lists to define the menu options. In Firefox it works perfectly, in IE it adds an additional space to the bottom of each list item. Does anyone have any clue what's going on? I've tried to define the margins to 0, but that doesn't seem to do anything. http://www.mcconaha.com/css_refined.php http://www.mcconaha.com/css_refined.css Code: <div class="navbox"> <h3>Navigation</h3> <ul> <li><a href="#">.
