CSS - Nested Layers In Layer Problem
My website (OPM) uses css for all the layout. Sometimes, when I load a new page within the website, the entire webpage appears nested within one of the layers. When I reload the page, this effect disappears right away or after a few reloads. It appears about 10% of the time and occurs in several different browsers (i.e. Firefox, IE).
Nested webpage error URL Normal page URL I don't know why this is happening, especially since it's only part of time. Please help! Thank you, Misha Similar TutorialsHello All, Im currently stuck trying to get a layer on top of a layer. The image below shows the problem. img68.imageshack.us/img68/5579/picture3cl2.png And here is a link to a code version: thenpcs.com/beta/ Any help greatfully appreciated! Ok here's my problem - I have three columns/layers (left, center, right) which are inside the content layer. I need to use relative positioning so when the page is re-sized all the page elements are still centered on the page. The problem I am having is that I cannot figure out a way for the colums to be aligned and seem to go under one another. I also need to keep the center colum with an overflow. If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful! Thanks <div id="content"> <div id="leftcolumn"></div> <div id="centercolumn"></div> <div id="rightcolumn"></div> <!-- End content --> </div> #leftcolumn { background-image: url(images/leftcolumn.gif); height: 412px; width: 148px; position: relative; margin-top: 0px; margin-left: 4px; } #centercolumn { background-color:#FFFFFF; height: 412px; width: 382px; position: relative; margin-top: 0px; margin-left: 3px; overflow: auto; text-indent: 2px; } #rightcolumn { background-image:url(images/rightcolumn.gif); height: 412px; width: 148px; position: relative; margin-top: 0px; margin-left: 7px; } Hi guys, I'm quite new to CSS and I'm having trouble with layers. I have a layer that I want to contain other layers. The main layer has no text or content, its sole aim is to provide a white backdrop for the other layers. The other layers consist of a banner, navigation and content. When the content gets longer, i.e. when the page is minimised, the content layer gets longer, but the main containing layer does not. As a result the content layer extends outside of the main layer. I'm useless at explaining this so here is the URL http://www.chriswiggins.net/comp3092/lineup.xml (The page does not render properly in IE, I use Firefox) The website is for a university assignment, and has little content at the minute. Any help is well recieved, Chris Hi, http://sinistersuicide.net/lolastour12.html is the page I'm working on. Problems: - I tried using absolute positioning on my div layers but if the page was viewed on a lower resolution than what I'm using 1440x900 the div layers would move from where they were positioned. - So I transfered over to relative positioning and all was fine till I noticed a huge gap at the bottom of the page. The code for the page is: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> I am trying to solve a problem I have had for a very long time. I have ignored it but I just can't do that any longer ... The code works well in FF but not in IE. The problem: I want to display three layers side by side (left to right). The left and right layers show just fine but the middle layer jumps down to just under the higher of the two other layers, effectively making my site not IE friendly. The code (taken from my site): Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head> <title>Working with divisions</title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> <style> div#content { margin-left: 205px; margin-right: 205px; width: 610px; margin-top: 0px; line-height: 150%; background-color: white; border: 1px solid red; } div#more { float: right; width: 160px; margin: 0; padding: 4px 0px 8px 4px; background-color: red; color: #fff; border: 1px solid white; } div#container { /* background-image: url(../nav_col_base.jpg); */ /* background-repeat: repeat-y; */ background-color: yellow; border: 1px solid black; } div#container2 { /* background-image: url(../more_col_base.jpg); background-repeat: repeat-y; background-position: right; */ border: 1px solid black; background-color: gray; } #verMenu { padding-top: 2px; float: left; margin-left: 0px; font: bold 11px Verdana, sans-serif; width: 195px; background-color: green; border: 1px solid white; } div#banner { color: #fff; background-color: #333; border-bottom: 1px solid #000; } div#banner h1 { margin: 0; padding: .3em 0 .3em .5em; font-size: 2.2em; font-weight: normal; } #cleardiv { clear: both; height: 1em; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="banner"> <h1>This is my banner division</h1> </div> <div id="container"> <div id="container2"> <div id="vermenu"> This is the VERMENU division. I also notice that in FF the width for the content division does not overlap over this division while in IE it does.</div> <div id="content">This is the content division. If you add lines to any of the two divisions, this division shifts down ...</div> <div id="cleardiv"></div> </div> </div> </body> </html> I have color coded the layers to simplify identifying the layers and where they show. What am I doing wrong? Thank you all in advance for your assistance. Jose PS: I cannot post a link otherwise, I would have provided you with one for my website. Okay, I am attempting to make my first-ever layout, (all by myself!! I'm so proud.) but, seeing as this is my first real attempt, I've run into some problems. My latest seems pretty simple, yet I can't seem to find a solution... The page in progress is here. Currently I have made divs as a css layout for my content, and have a fixed background. The problem: I would like it if my content didn't go over the top part of the background; the moon and the brushes/text I plan to add. Now I don't know anything about images and stuff, but my first thought was to cut the image, and make the top part on another layer, so it's not part of the background anymore, and the layers I already have will scroll under it, and not over. But in the css layout I'm using, apparently all layers are on the same... what would I call it, plane? I don't know if I'm at all on the right track with this, so I'd appreciate your thoughts and suggestions. Thanks. Ive seen a few topics about centering layers in browsers and it seems really complicated and often to specific to relate to my site. I used to use tables which were of course easy to center, but now at college we have to use layers (im working in design view im not a coder) and the teacher said try putting a layer in a layer and centering that but ive tried this and it doesnt work, i can get a layer in another layer, but not center it within it. This is the site im trying to do, i notice on cssvault.com cssbeauty.com most of the css sites (i know mines not really in css as such) are all centered and I was wondering how everyone does it? I went to the macromedia website and it said you can use an extension which works but for some reason it doesnt let you edit the site once you have centered it. Basically is there a simple way for me to center my site or is it really complicated? I wonder why we are learning in layers when tables center easily and move relative to each other I've been re-designing my site in valid XHTML 1.1 and CSS, and I've hit a bit of a problem.... Everything works perfectly in Firefox, but IE isn't liking things at all. The navbar at the left should stretch all the way to the bottom image, but it isnt having it. I've tried messing with it for about an hour now, and can't fix it.... The page can be found at URL and the stylesheet at URL Oh, and I know the colours are all messed up, I'll fix that later :P Edit: Fixed bbCode (never mind, i dont need layers anyways) Sorry, pls delete this! Hi, the foolowing code is highlighting some options that I have in a layer sitting on top of a tablet type object. In IE the options are displayed 'inside' the tablet. In Firefox they are spread out down the page into my footer, any ideas what I can add to contain them within the tablet layer? PHP Code: <div style="position: absolute; width: 100px; height: 100px; z-index: 1; left: 1px; top: 188px; visibility:visible" id="layer2"> <div style="position: absolute; width: 100px; height: 24px; z-index: 1; left: 46px; top: 35px; visibility:visible; right:0; bottom:0" id="layer3"> <p align="center"><font color="#4E261B"><b> <span style="font-size: 11pt"> <a href="home" style="text-decoration: none"> <font color="#4E261B">Home</font></a></span></b></font><p align="center"> <p align="center"> <font color="#4E261B"><b><span style="font-size: 11pt">About US</span></b></font><p align="center"> <p align="center"> <font color="#4E261B"><b><span style="font-size: 11pt">User Register</span></b></font><p align="center"> <p align="center"> <font color="#4E261B"><b><span style="font-size: 11pt">User Log-in</span></b></font><p align="center"> <p align="center"> <font color="#4E261B"><b><span style="font-size: 11pt">Supplier Log-in</span></b></font><p align="center"> <p align="center"> <font color="#4E261B"><b><span style="font-size: 11pt">Join Head2Toe</span></b></font></div> <img border="0" src="images/bridetablet1.bmp" width="190" height="302"></div> <p></div> <!-- to clear footer --> </div><!-- end outer div --> Layer 2 is the tablet, layer 3 is the text on top. if you need anything else, please let me know. Thanks, G I am trying to put left and right shadows on a layer, I am doing this by using two alternatively padded layers on top of each other. This code does that: PHP Code: #maincontent{ background-image: url(images/layout/contentpanel/contentpanel_background.gif); background-repeat: repeat-y; background-position: left; border: 0px !important; padding-left: 30px; } #maincontent_inner{ background-image: url(images/layout/contentpanel/contentpanel_backgroundright.gif); background-repeat: repeat-y; background-position: right; border: 0px !important; padding-right: 30px; } PHP Code: <div id="hold_content"> <div id="maincontent"> <div id="maincontent_inner"><? include("includes/homepageloremipsum.php")?> </div><!-- End maincontent_inner --> </div><!-- End maincontent --> </div> Now, in firefox the shadow images work fine, however, on IE they start about 2 inches down. However, after scrolling up and down the page they start at the top so this is obviously some kind of layering problem. I can't work out what though. Any ideas? Hello, someone call tell me why this code didnt work? i try to put some flash banner in nested divs using z-index and its not working the flash div is above the higher div. i am tryin to href the flash banner: Code: <asp:FormView DataSourceID="SqlDataSource20" runat="server"> <ItemTemplate> <div style="width:728px; height:90px; position:relative; padding:0px; margin:0px; z-index:100; cursor:pointer; display:block; background-color:Lime;" onclick="window.new('<%#Eval("destUrl") %>', '_blank');"> <div style="width:728px; height:90px; position:absolute; left:0px; top:0px; padding:0px; margin:0px; z-index:-1; display:block;"> <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,0,0" width="728" height="90"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="false" /> <param name="movie" value="<%#Eval("bannerSrc") %>" /> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" /> <param name="wmode" value="opaque" /> </object> </div> </div> </ItemTemplate> </asp:FormView> Hi everyone, I am having a very difficult problem using Dreamweaver and I would be very grateful for any advice given. I recently created a simple website using layers and when I previewed it, it looked great and it had no reported browser errors. I had several people view it and only one of my friends had trouble seeing it. He said that the layers were out of position and sometimes overlaped. We both were using Explorer 6.0. The only difference between our computers is that he has a 21" monitor while I have a 17". Would that effect the web page design? Why are the layers not positioning correctly? If anyone needs to view the website it can be seen at http://sky.prohosting.com/lovecare Please help me! Thanks, Steve Hello, I have a table inside a layer (position: absolute). I want to apply onMouseOut event to my layer, so when I roll my mouse outside of the layer it gives an alert message. Well, it does give an alert when I move my out outside of the layer. But it also alerts when I move my mouse over the table which is inside my layer. I'm sure it's something simple, but I'm struggling with it for hours already and can't find any solution. Code below. What am I doing wrong? <div style="position:relative; z-index:1;"> <div style="position: absolute; z-index:2; background-color:#009900; padding:10px; width: 200px; height:200px;" onMouseOut="alert('hey');"> <table width="100%" border="1" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tr> <td>table</td> </tr> </table> </div> </div> Thanks so much! I've seen a fix for this online before, but I can't seem to find it now. Basically I've got the following layer declartion: HTML Code _NOT_ php PHP Code: <div style=" color: black; font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial; text-align: center; visibility: hidden; display: block; position: absolute; z-index: 3; top: 115px" id="default"> When I make this layer visible it shows up in the exact position I want it to in most browsers, but in Mozilla it is 10 pixels to low. How can I get this layer to show up on Mozilla in the same pos as IE? Should I use javascript to adjust that "top" to 125 if its Mozilla? Or is there a CSS way to resolve this. html: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "(...)"> <html xmlns="(...)"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="stylesheet, css" /> <title>Test page.</title> <script src="Scripts/swfobject_modified.js" type="text/javascript"></script> </head> <body> <div id="main"> <!--- <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="../Graphics/Site/site-banner-top,swf" width="800" height="300"> </object> !--> <div id="maintop" ></div> <div id="mainbody"> <div id="testleft"> <div id="leftpaneltop"></div> <div id="leftpanelbody"><p> test</p> </div> <div id="leftpanelbottom"></div> </div> <div id="test_right"> <div id="rightpaneltop"> </div> <div id="rightpanelbody"> test</div> <div id="rightpanelbottom"></div> </div> </div> <div id="mainbottom"></div> </div> <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- swfobject.registerObject("FlashID"); //--> </script> </body> </html> css: Code: @charset "utf-8"; /* CSS Document */ body{ background-color:#569753; padding:0px; width:800px; margin-top:0px; margin-left:10%; } #main{ background-image:url(../Graphics/Site/body-bg,png); background-repeat:repeat-y; width:800px; position: relative; padding:0px; } #maintop{ background-image:url(../Graphics/Site/body-top,png); width:800px; height:50px; position:relative; margin-top:0px; } #mainbody{ background-image:url(../Graphics/Site/body-bg,png); background-repeat:repeat-y; position:relative; width:800px; margin-top:50px; } #mainbottom{ background-image:url(../Graphics/Site/body-bottom,png); position:relative; width:800px; height:50px; padding:0px; } #leftpaneltop{ background-image:url(../Graphics/Site/panel_left_top,png); background-repeat:repeat-x; background-color:#99cc99; position:relative; width:200px; height:25px; } #leftpanelbottom{ text-align:left; background-image:url(../Graphics/Site/panel_left_bottom,png); width:200px; height:21px; padding:0; position:relative; } leftpanelbody{ font:Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; width:200px; text-align:left; text-shadow:#000; color:#FFF; margin-top:auto; position:relative; } #testleft{ background-color:#569753; position:relative; padding:0; margin-left:10px; width:200px; height:inherit; } #test_right{ position:relative; padding:0px; margin-left:30%; margin-top:-200px; background:#000; width:508px; } #rightpaneltop{ background-image:url(../Graphics/Site/right_panel_top,png); background-color:#000; width:508px; height:37px; margin-top:0px; position:relative; } #rightpanelbody{ background-image:url(../Graphics/Site/right_panel_middle.png); width:508px; position:relative; } #rightpanelbottom{ background-image:url(../Graphics/Site/right_panel_bottom,png); position:relative; width:508px; height:25px; } p{ font:Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size:12px; font-style:normal; color:#FFF; } Hope the above scripts can be viewed easily. I just started using css, and for some reason I can't get this simple template to function in Mozilla Firefox. I don't know how nested divs behave, but it's really frustrating. The problem is that i have two main divs within one encompassing div. The encompassing div is supposed to expand in height based upon the height and/or position of the nested two divs, but it only expands based one of these nested divs. These nested divs have divs inside them too. This only happened in mozilla firefox. In IE it works. I'm not using floats or anything. I don't have it up on a site, but if necessary I'll post a pic of the rendering. Thanks in advance. I am Having a problem with IE6 and DIV's which use blocks to highlight links. The problem is I want to have different colour links. It seems to work OK in FF but not IE 6.
