CSS - Layer Position So It Doesn't Move On Scroll
Hi there,
What I am looking to do is have a layer that is in front of the rest of the page, that is always there and doesn't move when the rest of the page is scrolled. Basically I want an overlay at the bottom of the browser that shows an image, but this image should always be on screen at that exact position in the browser. The site in question is he earlybirdarts.co.uk Sorry if I am explaining myself badly, I can be bad with words sometimes. Any help is greatly appreciated :-) Regards, Lawrence Similar Tutorialsok in my site I have set the header and the menu as absolute because I want the header to go over the container and the menu to go over the header but my problem is that when I zoom in or out my header and menu move position to the left is there a way to make them not move their position but still have them one on top of the other this is my site for now (it's my course at uni and I have to include all those pages in it) http://padrewa.comeze.com this is my css code for: Code: body { background-color: #FFF; } #wrapper { background-color: #FFF; } #header { * border:#999 0px solid; position: absolute; opacity: 0.50; filter:alpha(opacity=50); } #menu { * border:#999 0px solid; position:absolute; padding-top:80px; padding-left:180px; } #content { border:#999 0px solid; background-color:#FFFF99; width:1050px; padding-top:110px; padding-bottom:70px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; } #footer { border:#999 0px solid; background-color:#FFFF99; width:1050px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; } and this is my header template I included it in my page using php: Code: <div id="header"><table> <tr> <td><a href="index.php"><img src="style/logo.jpg" alt="Logo" height="100" /></a></td> </tr> </table> </div> <link rel="stylesheet" href="style/style.css" type="text/css" media="screen" /> <div id="menu" > <a href="index.php"><b>Home Page</b></a> <a href="gallery.php"><b>Gallery</b></a> <a href="biography.php"><b>Biography</b></a> <a href="draw.php"><b>Draw</b></a> <a href="write.php"><b>Write</b></a> <a href="contact.php"><b>Contact Me</b></a> </div> Bear with me please. I am brand new to html/CSS etc... I just cobbled together a page a few days ago using someone elses code as a reference, I hardly know what I did or how it works, but it works just like I want it to - Background centered and stationary (no scrolling with content), but the content does scroll, with NO horizontal scroll bar. You can view it he bit(dot)ly/rbsZsH - THIS IS WHAT I WANT MY OTHER PAGE TO DO Ok, so feeling smug, I tried to do another one like it, without the sidebar/header, etc... For the most part it works, EXCEPT - I have an unexpected horizontal scroll bar that goes about 50% across the browser and allows the user to pull the content off-center across the background. I have nearly pulled my hair out trying to fix it and put a hidden message under the content just for fun.. (make lemonade when you get lemons, right?) You can view second page he bit(dot)ly/qMbYl2 - THIS IS THE GOOFY PAGE The only real clue I have is that the first page is set to 780px wide and has this comment in the container div: /* using 20px less than a full 800px width allows for browser chrome and avoids a horizontal scroll bar */ My second page container div is set to 802px because I am using an image from Photoshop rather than a background color. Thank you if any of you can shed light on the situation. P.S. - I'm sure I've totally butchered the code, and you can assume when you answer that I can cut and paste but not really understand what you are saying. Hello all i am having trouble with getting a layer to stay put when i school down the page. This is my code: Code: #Layer1 { position:absolute; width:64px; height:73px; z-index:1; left: 0px; top: 101px; } <div id="Layer1"> <div align="left"><img src="images/gun.gif" width="58" height="73" /></div> </div> Everytime i scroll down the image goes with it. I need it stay where i put it without moving at all. If anyone could help then that would be great David Hello, I've been trying to find a solution to this on the board already but nothing quite answers what Im trying to do. I have a layer that opens from this css: Code: #helplayeropen { margin-top: auto; margin-right: auto; float: right; position: relative; right: 0px; top: 80%; z-index: auto; visibility: hidden; } The problem is that if the page is scrollable, when you scroll to the bottom and open the layer, it opens the layer 80% from the top of the original screen, not the new view of the page. 80% from the real top, not 80% from the top of your current view of the page. Is there any way to get the layer to open 80% from the top of the screen that you are viewing and not from the absolute top. Heres an example of whats going on Go here and click on the help chilli (right floating layer) Dreamweaver. I built a simple animated banner: two overlapped layers containing an image with their own link. Timeline to define hide/show timing. It works fine at the top of the page (absolute position) Now I need to place the animation in the row #11 of a dynamic table. In CSS Rules I set "relative" position for these two layers and they are shown inside row #11. Timeline is played but layers are not overlapping. I've tried some settings but I get always the same. Any idea on how overlap theese two layers with relative position? Thank you in advance. Ok, I thought I had some idea what I was doing, but I'm starting to realize that I have none... If everything is square in the top-left corner there is _NO_ problem, everything looks fine. However, when I set the content of the page to _center_ obviously the positions of the dropdown menus get messed up. Is there anyway for the dropdowns to follow the bottom of the "Weddings" text? I.E. when the user stretches their window window open further it still lines up in the correct place? Should all 3 parts be on layers? or is it ok to have two tables, and a pull down menu as a layer? I've seen a fix for this online before, but I can't seem to find it now. Basically I've got the following layer declartion: HTML Code _NOT_ php PHP Code: <div style=" color: black; font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial; text-align: center; visibility: hidden; display: block; position: absolute; z-index: 3; top: 115px" id="default"> When I make this layer visible it shows up in the exact position I want it to in most browsers, but in Mozilla it is 10 pixels to low. How can I get this layer to show up on Mozilla in the same pos as IE? Should I use javascript to adjust that "top" to 125 if its Mozilla? Or is there a CSS way to resolve this. Hi all, im having a css scrollbar within a table and on refresh of that page,i want 2 position the scroll,at the end of the table. By default the scroll is always at the top. But how do i refer to the scroll position,to bring it to the end of the table? I have a sad feeling that its not possible, but I thought I'd ask anyway... I have a box element that is 150px x 400px with overflow: scroll; The box contains a large list of links. Now, the user can scroll down and click on a link in the box, which causes the page to refresh. Is there a way of making the scroll bar in the box "drop down" to the element that was clicked when the page is refreshed? It would be very similar to how named anchors work to force a whole page to scroll to a certain position.... Hello people I'm trying to enable a scroll on a div with position absolute but with negative pixels on the left atribute. Something like this: .intro{ position:absolute; top:100px; left:-190px; } the div will start from the back and it's content won't be seen without a scroll.. I've tried with the overflow:auto; but it doesn't work.. i think it only works to the right and not to the left Can anyone help me ? By the way, whats the diference between these declarations on a css: .intro{ #intro{ intro{ Title sounds a bit contradictory, I know, but please bear with me... I'm building a simple chat application with html, javascript php and mysql. The technical stuff (php/ajax etc) i'm absolutly fine with; what I'm struggling with is the CSS to make it behave how I want. I've got a prrof-of-concept page working 90% how I want, here http://chris.loyaltymatters.co.uk/chat-demo/ This works by having an outer div of position:relative and an inner div of position:absolute; bottom:0px so that as new content gets added to the bottom, older text goes up. So far so good....but I want a scroll bar so that I can scroll up to see previous comments. Giving the inner div a height value gives me a scroll bar, but the position remains at the top and new content gets hidden towards the bottom html: Code: <div id='container'> <div id='chatRoom'> </div> </div> css Code: #container { width:500px; height:500px; margin:50px auto; border:1px solid black; position:relative; overflow-y:scroll; overflow-x:hidden; } #chatRoom { position:absolute; bottom:0px; margin:5px; width:100%; } To summarise, all I need now is a scroll bar so that I can scroll up many thanks in advance alright I'm stumped so please please please help me out! I have a page that's 100% in height, and usually there's more information so you have to scroll down. but I can't seem to activate the scrollbar. I've tried overflow, messing with the height attribute, i have no idea how to solve this. my page: http://www.aapinboom.nl/luxeduinvil...ntroductie.html and this is the code: Code: html, body { background-image: url('../images/bg.gif'); margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; font-family: "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 13px; height: 100%; } #center { text-align: center; width: 100%; height: 100%; } #container { margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; width: 600px; height: 100%; border: 1px solid #B8B8B8; background-color: #FFFFFF; text-align: left; } thanks for any suggestions! They work in IE but not FF. Does anyone know a work-around? Is it possible? Code: .blkbars { SCROLLBAR-FACE-COLOR : #000000; SCROLLBAR-HIGHLIGHT-COLOR : #CCCCCC; SCROLLBAR-SHADOW-COLOR : #FFFFFF; SCROLLBAR-3DLIGHT-COLOR : #000000; SCROLLBAR-ARROW-COLOR : #CCCCCC; SCROLLBAR-TRACK-COLOR : #999999; SCROLLBAR-DARKSHADOW-COLOR : #000000; } Thanks for your time! The CSS in it has nothing to do with the image. Here is the CSS in the <link> tag. Code: #showcase {background:#6f9c6f;} dl.menus_list dt {background:#6f9c6f; font-size:1.5em; margin:3px 0;} #foot {background:#8fbc8f;} dl.menus_list dd.nil {padding:0; margin:0;} I hate to say it but I'm baffled! Goal: Get all the CSS into the same file as the rest of my code. Edit: Gah kravvitz I've been watching your move through your profile and you signed off!! Gay. Well I hope someone else here can help me solve this issue I'm having... |
