CSS - Ie6 Problem Involving .hover & Positioning / Margins.
Problem here - view in IE6
Relative CSS Hello! This is quite an odd one. In IE6, there's a problem whereby upon hovering over the category / product links, the position of elements will shift a small amount. This is the best I can explain the issue really. There are no positioning changes attributed to the .hover pseudo-element on either class. I have a feeling it has something to do with margins, but am at a loss trying to find the solution. Any help rewarded with a glacier cherry, some sugar and 44 gleaming rep points Similar Tutorialshello, this is my first post so apologies if i give too much information, but rather than miss something crucial, i thought it best to cover all my bases. i am new to CSS and have been trying to reproduce a design that i created as an image, in CSS for a website layout. i have managed the 'bones' of the website but am having difficulty when i get to the actual content. not being the most technical when it comes to CSS terminology, i have uploaded an image which shows what i want it to look like here a cut down version of the page, including just the area in question is available here XHTML css i validated my xhtml, but the css came up with warnings but didn't say it was invalid. i hope this is OK? in firefox it looks fine, but in IE 6, you can see that the photo of the product is not flush to the left of the bordered div. i'm not sure if i have gone about it the wrong way or if it is IE. a friend suggested that rather than have the 2 divs overlapping, i should just use a background image to create the effect, but being stubborn, i would like to try to fix this way, just for experience. would anyone mind having a look? hopefully i have provided enough info, but apologies if not. just ask and i will do my best to explain. thank you for your time J Hello All, I have a left navigation bar that seems to be working perfectly in Firefox and Safari. However (I know, you've heard this before!), when I open the page in IE, there is no list appearing whatsoever. When I hover in a place outside of where the ul is supposed to be, I can find where the menu is, but it is not functioning well. Could someone please take a look and provide some insight? I have tried a few different things but they are mostly guesses as this is pushing my understanding of CSS a bit. The menu is supposed to appear under the "Select a Tool" text... 029c92a.netsolhost.com/brushes.html Best Regards, Colin Hi all, haven't had to post for awhile. Need some help! Am trying to create a popup box below menu when hovering over link, strictly using CSS. My problem is everything's working perfect in IE(a rarity), but in Firefox the box pops up too high and is wider than I want Here's the code... Could some experienced CSS developer please confirm this: All paddings, and right and left margins, always combine (what I mean is if you have a left object with a 5px right margin and a right object with a 5px left margin, the distance between the two will be 10px). However, bottom & top margins never combine. Is all this true? Why doesn't the following code result in a blue border that is 10px wide? PHP Code: <Table> <tr> <td style="background-color: 0000FF;"> <Table> <tr> <td style="background-color: FF0000; padding: 10; margin: 10; border: 10px solid #00FF00;"> Test Font </td> </tr> </Table> </td> </tr> </Table> Hi, My site is at pageShree and I'm having trouble with margins or padding, i can't tell which. In FF there are gaps between the main box with the news in it. In IE6 they aren't there, how do I get it to work in FF? My CSS Code can be seen he http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=http://pageshree.com/style.css Thanks I am having a problem where I have a <div> that holds my body image, margin: 0 auto; Inside that is my content <div> with margin:15px; but this is visually dropping the background image's margin by 15px. The problem compounds every time I add another margin/padding requirement into the rest of the <div>. Code: html, body { margin:0px; padding:0px; background-image:url(images/interface/background.png); } #body_image { width:935; margin:0 auto; padding:0px; background-image:url(images/interface/body.png); background-repeat:no-repeat; background-position:center; } #container { width:904px; height:750px; margin:15px; } #slug { height:15px; } Code: <div id="body_image"> <div id="container"> <div id="header">Header</div> <div id="nav">Nav</div> <div id="sidebar">Sidebar</div> <div id="content">Content</div> <div id="footer">Footer</div> </div> </div> The extent of my CSS is a few tutorials online and the class I took 10 years ago where the teacher said "Here's CSS, you can't do much more than change your font size and color with it... on to tables!" Thought it'd only be fair to give you a little background. Hi all! I am a bit of a newb to CSS, and could certainly use some help on this slight problem that I can't seem to figure out. Here is the link. And the code is at the bottom as well. If you look closely you will see that in the main page content, the text to the right of the quote is just a little bit further right than text below the quote. I must admit that I find a bit of CSS still quite confusing. I could certainly use any help that all of you could provide. Thanks in advance! So it would appear that IE treats tables as block elements (so margins collapse) and firefox treats them as god-knows-what (but akin to inline elements - so they do not collapse). Now, whether its right or wrong, I want the firefox behaviour - so I tried to display the tables as inline. This fixes IE.... but breaks firefox - the tables "loose" their width parameter so they don't display with correct widths. Does any CSS guru know a nice solution to this dilema (I know a couple of dirty solutions). To elaborate further on what is going in: There are a number of tables one after the other in the normal flow of the document that need to be seperated by certain margins. I have problem with footer DIV in this layout (the order of DIV's in code after <body> should be - content, left, right, right2, header, footer - positioned centraly with fixed values): It needs to be sticked to fit after content of 4 column DIV's like it is in example. http://www.split.info/dev/less-content/ http://www.split.info/dev/more-content/ Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> <title>Title of website</title> <style type="text/css"> <!-- body {margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px; background-image:url(images/bg.jpg); background-position:center; background-repeat:repeat-y;} #wrapper {width: 1000px; margin: 0 auto; text-align: left; position: relative;} #contentPane {width: 468px; float: left; position: absolute; margin-left: 3px; padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; background-color:#0099FF; left: 126px; top: 150px;} #leftPane {width: 125px; float: left; left: 0px; position: absolute; background-color: #99FFFF; top: 150px;} #rightPane {width: 173px; float: right; right: 226px; background-color:#999966; position: absolute; top: 150px;} #rightPane2 {width: 220px; float: right; right: 0px; background-color:#99FF00; top: 150px; position: absolute;} #headwide {background-image: url(images/head_bg.jpg); background-position: center; background-repeat: no-repeat; width: 100%; height: 142px; position: absolute; top: 0px;} #header {margin: 0pt auto; width: 1000px; background-color:#CC6600; height: 142px; } #footer {position: absolute; width: 100%; top: auto; bottom: 0px; background-color: #CCFFCC; height: 50px;} --> </style> </head> <body> <div id="wrapper"> <div id="contentPane">Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> Content area<br> </div> <div id="leftPane">Left Pane area<br> Left Pane area<br> Left Pane area<br> Left Pane area<br> Left Pane area<br> Left Pane area<br> Left Pane area<br> Left Pane area<br> Left Pane area<br> </div> <div id="rightPane">Right Pane area<br> Right Pane area<br> Right Pane area<br> Right Pane area<br> Right Pane area<br> Right Pane area<br> Right Pane area<br> Right Pane area<br> Right Pane area<br> </div> <div id="rightPane2">Right Pane 2 area<br> Right Pane 2 area<br> Right Pane 2 area<br> Right Pane 2 area<br> Right Pane 2 area<br> Right Pane 2 area<br> Right Pane 2 area<br> Right Pane 2 area<br> </div> </div> <div id="headwide"> <div id="header">Header area</div> </div> <div id="footer"><strong>Content from above 4 column div's need to push footer DIV below (after them)! </strong>Footer area that is on bottom of div with biggest height (content, left, right or right 2 pane)... foooter follow right after end of content from those div's (regular behaviour of next table row below any of those 4 columns). I have a horizontal CSS menu with a width of 400px. There are four elements each with a width of 100px. The height is 50px (if that matters at all). This whole menu is centered using the <center> tag right outside the <ul> tag which I use to center the menu. The following is the CSS I'm using. It's not fully complete with respect to the images. The problem is that the elements (with a width of 100px) will all line up horizontally as expected in IE, but the fourth element drops off (vertical ~20px vertical shift) in Firefox. I have tried adjusting the width of the <ul> in the CSS and it will bring all the elements on the same horizontal level if I change the width to 500px, but it doesn't center the menu anymore. Is there anyway I could center my menu without the error in Firefox. CSS: #nav {width:400px; list-style:none; overflow:hidden;} #nav ul li {padding: 10px; list-style-type:none; display:inline; /*text-indent: -9999px;*/} #nav a {display:block; float:left; text-decoration:none; outline:none; width:100px; height:35px;background-image: url(MenuBar.gif);} #home {} #home:hover {background-position:0 -100px;} #products #products #history #history #contact #contact #nav a:link {color:blue;} #nav a:hover {color:green;} a {outline:none;} HTML: <td width="80%" id="nav"><center><ul id="nav"> <li><a href="#" id="home">Home</a></li> <li><a href="#" id="product">Products</a></li> <li><a href="#" id="history">History</a></li> <li><a href="#" id="contact">Contact</a></li> </ul></center> </td> [This menu is organized by a large table, hence the 80% width which helps organize the elements of the page] PLEASE Help me. I can't seem to get it working. EDIT: Solved. Hi All, This seems to be a bit of a recurring problem for me in a lot of the new CSS designs I'm trying... but it seems that IE interprets both padding and margins differently than how firefox interprets them. Sometimes it seems to do it the same, and other times differently. Take a look at this: http://zeroonedesign.com/beta/newsite/index.html CSS he http://zeroonedesign.com/beta/newsite/style.css Now look at it first in Firefox (the desired effect) and then in IE. IE seems to be incapable of understanding this particular piece of the code Code: #menu {padding-top:140px;text-align:left;padding-left:38px;} #menu ul{margin:0px;} #menu ul li{display:inline;margin-right:10px;padding:5px 7px 5px 7px;color:#fff;} #menu ul li a{color:#fff;font-size:10pt;text-decoration:none;} #menu ul li a:hover{color:#fff;font-size:10pt;border-bottom:3px solid #fff;} #menu ul li a.selected{color:#f88000;font-size:10pt;border-bottom:2px solid #f88000;} Ideas? Help? I know the box model is different for IE than it is for FF but I've tried the box model hack and it doesn't seem to do anything. Hello, Basically I have a problem with my CSS regarding an on hover option in IE5. My CSS works fine on IE7 and IE6, however on IE5 it does not work properly and instead of displaying me a menu on IE5 (on Apple) it just creates empty spaces at the bottom of the page. The following is the CSS I use to make the menus work: Code: ul { margin: 0; padding: 0; list-style: none; width:300px; background-color: #EAEAEA; } ul li { position: relative; /* need for IE*/ float: left; background-color:#EAEAEA; text-decoration: none; } li ul { position: absolute; left: 149px; top: 0; display: none; background-color: #EAEAEA; text-decoration: none; } ul li a { display: block; text-decoration:none; color: #777; background-color: #EAEAEA; padding: 5px; /* need for IE*/ height: 1%; text-align: left; } ul { margin: 0; padding: 0; list-style: none; width: 150px; } li:hover ul, li.over ul { display: block; } As I already said this works fine on IE7 but a disaster on IE5 (on Apple). Also the doc type I am using is Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> I have also searched google, but can not really find a solution to my problem! Any sugestions are most welcomed Thank You bormli Hi all u experts I have some problems which I list them below : 1-I just used a simple css style, it works in FF but not in IE7, it means font size and and bold, is shown in FF but not in IE Quote: #tbtd2 { font: 12px Arial bold; color: #8F2222; } 2-also hover effect is not the same in FF and IE , the same as above (looks disable in IE) : Quote: #tbtd2:hover { font: 14px Arial bold; color: #8F2222; } 3-how can I have hover effect for row of a table ? ( css style not js ) like change font color or size ? best regards I'm having a problem with the following piece of code. Code: .menuitem { position:relative; border:0px solid; border-color:#fff; z-order:auto; padding:1px; text-align:center; text-size:10px; width:300px; padding:2px; } div.menuitem:hover { background-color:#06f; color:white; } With Mozilla and Opera, the code highlights the div areas in blue as I expected. However, in IE6, this does not happen. The divs have been wrapped in anchor tags like so: Code: <a href="wherever.htm"> <div class="menuitem"> menuitem1 </div> </a> Anybody have any ideas? How do you fix this hover problem http://www.svprosquad.com/test.htm It's the top nav that's the problem that's the one that is done using CSS. Hi I am having some problems with using hover and background images. My code is this: a:hover.buttons { color:white; width:53px; height:33px; background-color:#3366CC; background-image: url(images/council1.jpg); padding-top: 9px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 8px; padding-right: 8px; } It is loading a background image into a table cell. It works OK in mozilla based browsers, but there is a delay of about a second when using IE, which makes the page look rather untidy. The page I am working on can be viewed he http://www.northstar-newmedia.co.uk/oic (the links ath the top of the page) Does anyone know why this is happening, and if there is a fix/hack? Any help would be much appreciated. Hiya, Hoping for a bit of help with a menu I've made. Basically it's a tabbed menu with another line underneath for an explanation of what you'll find if you click on the tab. The explanation shows up when you hover over the appropriate tab. I also have an 'active' class that highlights whatever section you're on and shows that explanation as default. It all works fine until you're halfway through the menu, and the explanations won't show for any menu item previous to the active one. I know this is something to do with z-index, but I can't for the life of me figure out where to put it. Can anyone help? This is only happening in IE. With google's help ive managed to figure out the Css code, for one image like this but im struggling to see an easy way to get more images with the same spec without repeating myself in endless lines of code. Code: <html> <head> <title>Button attempt</title> <style type="text/css"> .btnContinue { width: 80px; height: 10px; display: block; font-size: 10px; text-decoration: none; background-repeat:no repeat; background-image:url(image link here); } .btnContinue:hover { background-image:url(image link here); } </style> </head> <body> <a class="btnContinue" href="##"> </a> </body> </html> Is there a simple method to use these styles on more than one image, without starting btnContinue2, btnContinue3 etc... thanks My nav menu works 100% in IE8, FF, Opera and Chrome... but it's doing something weird in IE7 that can kindof affect it's functionality but I have no idea really where to look for the problem. It's most easily seen on two pages. The front page, he http://www.skullcrow.com ...and on the product pages he http://www.skullcrow.com/proddisp.php?id=skull01 On the main page when you hover over the menu and get the drop downs, if you move your cursor so you're also over the text div in the background, the menu goes away. You can tell easiest when viewing the "Community" and "Help" lists. On the product display page is the same thing over a larger area. Anytime you move the cursor to a part of the menu that's covering the text or (only some of?) the background div, it disappears. The menu is obviously on top, and this problem does not occur in basically any other browser. The main reason I need to fix this is that these menus will probably only get bigger and the navbar will become barely unusable in IE7 after a while. I don't exactly what code I would need to post for this, I was just hoping for some general information that could point me in the right direction. Thanks for any help. |
