CSS - Bottom Line Problem With Ff!
Hi all,
I am trying to do a bottom line (contact info) in a css layout. I am having the content area (98% height) and a bottom line (3%). (101% because I want the scrollbar to be visible - FF jumping) Now the problem is that FF interprets the 98% as 98% of the current window height. Even if the text is larger. The bottom line then appears right in the middle of the text. Example IE interprets the height of the text (a nice little bug), but it works and displays the bottom line at the end of the page. Here's the css for the containers: Code: #Container { height: 98%; width: 100%; background-image: url(img/main_background.jpg); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: center top; min-height: 551px; } #Impressum { width:662px; height: 3%; height:auto; margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; } Can someone give me a hint how to solve this FF problem? Thanks in advance Sven Similar TutorialsI'm trying to put a 1px line on the bottom of my header that spans the width all the way. I've used border-bottom: 1px and border-style: solid; but I still have a looks like 3px border all the way around my header. Also I have my unordered list inside of my header div and it's placed directly below my header. The trouble is a couple of sections of my site use line-height and vertical-align to center their content. This means that applying a border-bottom: 1px dashed black; to an href has the effect that the underline appears at the bottom of the line height and not directly underneath the link. Is there a way to overcome this? Maybe I should be posting this as a reply - this is an UPDATE: I used the WC3 Validator and it found an outright error in my code. So, gosh - ignore the posting below! And, uhm, I think I'll be using that handy-dandy WC3 tool more often.... ---------- Okay - I am a CSS dope - I've been using tables and antiquated code for a long time. I'm putting together a dummy site, just for testing, and I'm trying to postiion things with DIVs, etc. Be gentle - I'm 59, and, not that damned smart... I installed Dreamweaver and have been fooling with that as it has a lot of templates with proper CSS, tips, etc. But I've never used it before, so that's another learning curve. So, I have a page on which there are some DIVs and, in one, there is an extra space - and, an extra bottom border line - in Internet Explorer. I'm not fond of IE, but that isn't the point - a lot of people use it.....and I need to know why this is happening. Here's a link to an image of what it looks like in Explorer - the line at the bottom is absent in Firefox and Chrome: Screenshot The page is just the index page at: GuyMerritt.net The CSS files looks like this: Code: body { margin: 0 0 0 0; background: #FEFEEC; height: 1000px; background: #F9F9EE; } h2 {font-family: tahoma; font-size: 12px; font-weight: normal; padding-left: 5px; padding-right: 8px; color: #777772;} #header {height: 220px; background: url(../images/header_graphics.jpg); } #left-sidebar { float:left; width:20%; padding-left: 20px; } #right-sidebar { float:right; width:20%; padding-right: 20px; } #main-content {width: 54%;float: left;padding-top: 0px; } .sidebars-2 #content { width: 54%;float: left;padding-top: 10px; } #box { border-style: solid; border-width: .05em; font-family: arial; color: #777772; font-size: 13px; padding-left: 9px; padding-right: 9px; } img.example { width: 100%; max-width: 250px; height: auto; } div#slides { width: 500px; height: 280px; overflow: hidden; } div#slides div { height: 280px; width: 500px; font-size: 100px; line-height: 200px; text-align: center; color: #fff; } ul#ticker { height: 1.4em; overflow: hidden; border: solid 1px #aaa; background: #ccc; } ul#ticker li { padding: 0.2em 0; } /* @group global */ p#links { padding-top: 50px; clear: both; } a#avatar { position: absolute; bottom: 10px; right: 10px; } a#avatar img { border: none; } h1 { color: #0094d5; } a { color: #0094d5; } a:visited, a:hover { color: #00577e; } .red { background: #e40053; } .blue { background: #0094d5; } .green { background: #43aa38; } /* @end */ At the rate I'm moving, I'll be dead before I ever figure this stuff all out! If anyone could explain what's causing this I would be very grateful. And why do so many things render differently in Explorer (from Chrome and Firefox)? Thanks again, Guy Merritt, Flint, MI I am trying to make a layout with a background image with 3 content boxes layered on top of it. The first two boxes are position correctly. They are offset top, left and top, right respectively. The third box should be positioned bottom, left but for some reason it isn't working. The left offset is working correctly, but instead of positioning itself off of the bottom of the container div, it positions itself that much above the viewport. If I set the bottom property to negative something, it acts like a top offset. While this is a workaround, it does not provide acceptable functionality. Anyone have any ideas? I've had two friends who are both seasoned web developers look at this and they were both stumped. I can post images of what it looks like and what it should look like if desired. Both of these code sections are php generating the html and css respectively. html: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html lang="en" xml:lang="en" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-type" content="text/html; Sorry I tried to get the HTML to highlight too but it wouldn't work. Screenshot of how it looks: http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d105/alphasynaptic/wrong.jpg Screenshot of how it should look (done with my hacky workaround): http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d105/alphasynaptic/right.jpg IE CSS Problem. sidebar getting pushed to bottom... I'm working on my new blog. Moding a template from wpdesigner.com http://www.mymovetoeurope.com/ The sidebar menu that is suppose to be on the right gets slipped to the bottom, but it's only for IE 6.0, don't have 7.0 installed. I tried using absolute positioning for the right bar, but it didn't do anything. When there were a lot of content in the sidebar and I increased the container size, it did push the menu back up, but the menu started at the edge of the header. I want to have it so the first right sidebar is under the header. Can someone tell me what's wrong? Thanks. I am testing a three column layout with a header and a footer using only CSS. Ordinarily it works fine but when the center column has less height than the left or right columns (due to amount of content in each) then the footer overlaps the left or right column as it positions itself to just below the center column. Can anyone figure out why? I am baffled since the footer has an absolute position of left: 0px and bottom: 0px; Here is my HTML: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html lang="en" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>page title</title> <style type="text/css"> body { margin:0px; padding:0px; height: 100%; } .left-col { position: absolute; width: 150px; top: 130px; left: 0px; padding-left: 3px; z-index: 2; } .right-col { position: absolute; width: 150px; top: 120px; right: 0; padding-right: 3px; z-index: 1; overflow: hidden; clear: both; } .center-col { position: relative; min-width: 300px; min-height: 100%; height: 100%; z-index: 3; top: 140px; margin: 0px 160px 150px 170px; text-align: left; padding:5px; } .heading { position: absolute; left: 0px; top: 0px; } .footer { position: absolute; bottom: 0px; left: 0px; width: 100%; height: 0px; z-index: 3; padding-top: 25px; margin: 0px; display: block; } .footer-bar { width: auto; padding:10px 3px 3px 0px; clear: both; background-color: gray; vertical-align: bottom; text-align: center; } </style> </head> <body> <div class="center-col"> center content<br /> center content<br /> center content<br /> center content<br /> </div> <div class="left-col"> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> left content<br /><br /> </div> <div class="right-col"> right content<br /><br /> right content<br /><br /> right content<br /><br /> right content<br /><br /> right content<br /><br /> right content<br /><br /> right content<br /><br /> right content<br /><br /> right content<br /><br /> </div> <div class="heading"> head content </div> <div class="footer"> <div class="footer-bar">page bottom</div> </div> </body> </html> Hi! I have modified it to put the image in the same td as the description and used a float style on a div tag. The text is wrapping correctly. The problem is that I have a border-bottom style on the product name and it is ending up under the product image. The image is also covering the bullet on li tags. An example is http://www.adaappliances.com/produc...48&cat=0&page=1. Please do not attempt to order anything! This is not a live site yet. This is a snippet of the code. I am using inline styles for testing. Code: <div style="float:left; padding:5px"> <IMG id="product_thumbnail" src="/image.php?productid=16148" width="168" height="230" alt="Eurotech EDW254E Dishwasher" border="0"></div> <p style="border-bottom: 1px solid black"><font size="3"><strong>Eurotech EDW254E Dishwasher </strong></font></p> I have not found a way to fix this. Any suggestions? I've spent the last two days struggling, trying to get the footer to stay at the bottom of the window and the two right most columns in my layout to stretch to the footer. I've search this site thorough for answers, and yes, there were many of them. But still, after implementing everyone I came across, I can't get the layout to do the above criteria in both IE and Firefox. While they were helpful, I wasn't successful in implemented many of the techniques suggested in them to solve my problems. I am presently creating a website for a friend of mine who's a model and wants her own website, I have decided to make it using xhtml and css. The problem that I am having is that I would like to have a footer which is at the very end of the page no matter how much content there is to the page. I have uploaded the code to here When this page is viewed in IE the footer is displayed at the bottom of the screen although the content carries on after the footer. When this page is viewed in Firefox the footer is displayed just below the bottom of the screen although again the content carries on after the footer. I have Googled this and tried out a couple of the suggested ways of getting the page to work and it just doesn't appear to want to work, so I am obviously doing something wrong :s Does anyone have any idea how I would be able to get the footer to stay at the very bottom of the webpage? Also if you look at the website you will see that the navigation sidebar only goes down as far as its content, I would prefer it if the sidebar went down to the footer (which will hopefully be at the bottom of the webpage). Again does anyone have any idea how I would be able to get it to do this. this is bugging the hell out of me, cant find a working answer anywhere (i've tried a bunch of things) So I have 3 images for the top of my page and 3 images for the bottom. The page is enclosed in a div frame titled "frame" each of the 3 columns is enclosed in a frame "leftframe" "centerframe" and "rightframe" Each of the 3 columns has a top which is a fixed size image at the top, a middle which is just empty space for content to go, and a bottom which is a fixed size image at the bottom. Problem: I can't get any of the 3 column's bottoms to stick to the bottom of "frame" I've tried some code in here to do it and it doesn't work.. any help here? thanks! Code: <style type="text/css"> body { text-align:center; height:100%; min-height:100%; padding:0px; } #frame { width:800px; height:100%; min-height:100%; margin-right:auto; margin-left:auto; margin-top:0px; padding:0px; text-align:left; position:relative; } #contentlefttop { width:155px; height:282px; padding:0px; float:left; background-image: url(images/layout_01.gif); background-repeat:no-repeat; } #leftframe { float:left; width:155px; position:relative; height:100%; min-height:100%; } #contentleft { clear:left; float:left; padding:0px; width:155px; padding-bottom:270px; } #contentleftbottom{ width:155px; height:270px; /*clear:left; float:left;*/ padding:0px; position:absolute; bottom:0; background-image: url(images/layout_07.gif); background-repeat:no-repeat; } #contentcenter { width:486px; padding:0px; clear:left; float:left; text-align:center; min-height:100%; height:100%; padding-bottom:53px; } #rightframe { float:left; position:relative; height:100%; min-height:100%; width:159px; } #centerframe { float:left; position:relative; height:100%; width:486px; } #contentrighttop { width:159px; height:282px; padding:0px; clear:left; float:left; background-image:url(images/layout_03.gif); background-repeat:no-repeat; background-position:top; } #contentright { clear:left; float:left; width:159px; padding:0px; height:100%; padding-bottom:270px; } #contentrightbottom{ width:159px; height:270px; /*clear:left; float:left;*/ position:absolute; bottom:0; padding:0px; background-image: url(images/layout_08.gif); background-repeat:no-repeat; background-position:bottom; } #contentheader { width:486px; height:135px; float:left; background-image: url(images/layout_02.gif); background-repeat:no-repeat; } #contentfooter { /*clear:left; float:left;*/ width:486px; height:53px; background-image: url(images/layout_09.gif); background-repeat:no-repeat; position:absolute; bottom:0; } #sitemessage { margin-left:17px; margin-right:31px; height:90px; text-align:center; font-size:12px; } #wisemanquote { margin-left:22px; margin-right:24px; height:85px; text-align:center; font-size:12px; } p,h1,pre { margin:0px 10px 10px 10px; } h1 { font-size:14px; padding-top:10px; } #contentheader h1 { font-size:14px; padding:10px; margin:0px; } #contentright p { font-size:10px} </style> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> </head> <body bgcolor="#FFFFFF"> <div id="frame"> <div id="leftframe"> <div id="contentlefttop"> <div id="sitemessage"></div> </div> <div id="contentleft">Left</div> <div id="contentleftbottom"></div> </div> <div id="centerframe"> <div id="contentheader"></div> <div id="contentcenter"> <p>Center</p> </div> <div id="contentfooter"></div> </div> <div id="rightframe"> <div id="contentrighttop"> <div id="wisemanquote"></div> </div> <div id="contentright">Right</div> <div id="contentrightbottom"></div> </div> </div> Hi, I'm working on a website for a church and we're near completion, but I'm having trouble getting the site to display properly in IE7 on Windows XP and a few other browsers according to browsershots.org. CSS and XHTML both validate at w3c.org. I've ripped this thing apart and put it back together with no luck. The really weird thing is the Home page looks fine, but in the rest of the pages the body content gets pushed below the left and right navigation bars. Is it a CSS float problem? Margins or paddings??? Home page: Looks OK in IE7, at least on my machine - http://www.stlukeslutheran.com/index_temp.php Ministry page: Content is pushed to bottom of page - http://www.stlukeslutheran.com/mini...ns_ministry.php The CSS files are at http://www.stlukeslutheran.com/css/main.css and http://www.stlukeslutheran.com/css/common.css. Would anyone be willing to take a look? Thanks in advance. This is probably the dumbest question ever, but I hardly ever work on GUI stuff anymore so here it goes... I have some buttons that have their size (height and width) controlled by CSS. The text I'm putting on them is sometimes too long to fit unless it would wrap, but it doesn't want to wrap, it wants to disappear off the side of the button. Is there a way to explicity tell it to wrap if it needs to, or even insert a "new line" character? Thanks! Hi all, hope someone can help with this. Page with problem: html Code: http://central12.com/hovv.htm CSS Code: http://central12.com/hov.css Basically I used Eric Meyer image pop up tuturial, got it working ok in firefox, but in IE when I hover over the link the text jigs down a bit. I know I can stop this by removing the line-height attribute on the p tag, but wanted this to remain as it is a style I want across the site in general. Any way to keep the line height and remove the IE text jog. Thanks for any help. hey guys i'm having a problem with CSS line spacing. firefox is displaying correctly of course, and IE is scrunching the lines closer. here is an example (firefox on the right, IE on the left): here is the CSS: Code: #galleriesTextContainer { height: 130px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; margin-left: 8px; line-height: 8pt; } .galleriesText { margin: 0px; padding: 0px; color: white; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Sans Serif; font-size: 11px; } Code: <div id="galleriesTextContainer"> <span class="galleriesText">dolphy day 2005 (132 images)<br />dolphy day 2004 (101 images)<br />buffalo wild wings (47 images)<br />lemoyne 2005 (425 images)<br />lemoyne 2004 (28 images)<br />lemoyne 2003 (147 images)<br />syracuse nationals 2004 (43 images)<br />nyc / jersey 2005 (245 images)<br />minutes monte (29 images)<br />my truck (67 images)<br />phil's t-type (70 images) </span> </div> Hi all -- I've been messing w/ this for awhile and don't know why it isn't doing what I want. I have some headings, and the color, size, etc. all work but when the heading wraps to the next line, they are too close together... I've tried everything I can think of, like line-height normal, inherit, pixels, percent, you name it, doesn't change. here is a page example: http://www.keepsakequilting.com/landing/halloween2010.aspx they are the pinkish headings near the images.. here is the css I have: #lpage-titlel { font-family:century gothic, avant garde,arial,sans-serif; color:#AD4266; font-size: 110%; line-height:normal; font-weight: bold; padding: 0; margin: 8px 2px 5px 17px; text-align: left; } #lpage-titler { font-family:avant garde, century gothic,arial,sans-serif; color:#AD4266; font-size: 100%; line-height:normal; font-weight: bold; padding:10px; margin: 8px 2px 5px 5px; text-align: left; } #lpage-titler a {color:#AD4266;text-decoration:none;} #lpage-titler a:hover {color:#AD4266; text-decoration:underline;} #lpage-titlel a {color:#AD4266; text-decoration:none;} #lpage-titlel a:hover {color:#AD4266; text-decoration:underline;} What am I missing?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. THANKS Hello, I'm trying to make a autostrech page with CSS. I'm having a problem where a DIV jumps down a line instead of compressing. Here is a link to the problem page: http://www.nexpost.net/community/te...rall_header.htm Try resizeing it in your browser. Has anyone had a similar problem? Any fixes? Thanks for any help. I have an alignment issue that is driving me crazy. For whatever reason, the text that I have in a <span> field is dropping too far down for the last line. Here is a screenshot of the relevant text: Yada yada For whatever reason I can't keep the final "Yada" from dropping farther down. It is in the following <td> field: Code: <td style="height: 200px; width: 150px; vertical-align: top; padding-top: 10px"> And the class for the span has the following characteristics: Code: .announcement_body { color: black; font-size: x-small; } I can't see what would cause this. I've already tried adjusting the height of the <td> field without any luck. I did get consistent spacing when I added the characteristics "vertical-align: middle", but that made the distance between every line too large. Any idea what I'm missing here? Stephen HellO~! I'm current trying to code a website for someone, but I'm having some problems getting the menu to work properly in Firefox. It works great in Chrome and Safari but I have no idea how to make it work properly for firefox. So basically, I have a drop line menu, but instead the sub links all showing up in the same spot when I hover, I want the sub links to show up under the link I'm hovering over. Now, I managed to get this working great by just changing the position of the sub ul and il hover to relative. URL But in Firefox, when you hover over a link, that link expands to the width of the sub navigation and pushes the other links to the right. It just looks terrible and I don't know how to fix this. URL I've tried searching for a solution, but no luck! I'd really appreciate if someone could enlighten me on how this could be fixed? Or if it's even possible? I'm still new to working with drop downs and would love the help! Advance thanks for those who read this! Hopefully someone can help me out with this! EDIT: Looks like my images wont show up after all . Hopefully you will all know what I mean.
