Hi there,
Can someone help me make a menu Im working on. The menu is make up of a few cells in a table, each cell has a Background image and an image which I would like to haved change when the mouse is over that cell in the table. How is this done? Owen, Similar TutorialsMy vertical CSS navigation menu buttons overflow when adding 10 or more buttons. The new buttons end up to the right side of the top buttons. If I change the html format for paragraph format it stops this, but in IE there becomes big space between the buttons. Here is the site: http:// bradleyrose . net / WaterStreetRestaurant Hey, I have a feeling that this will not be difficult to solve, but I've come to the point where I don't really know what to do any more. They say two heads are better than one; that's why working in a team is so great, because there are people from different walks of life. So, any help you can provide me from your experiences would be great! I have five buttons that do not show up on firefox, and the images are called into play through CSS using background. You will find the code below: This is the CSS: Code: .borderBelowNav { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 80px; width: 937px; height: 141px; z-index: 2; } img.borderBelowNav { display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; } .divNav { position: absolute; top: 55px; left: 175px; width: 785px; height: 61px; z-index: 3; } ul#mainNav, ul#mainNav li { margin: 0; padding: 0; } ul#mainNav li { display: inline; } ul#mainNav li a { width: 138px; height: 69px; } ul#mainNav li#quienesSomos a { width: 138px; background: url(../images/quienesSection.gif) no-repeat 0 0; top: 0; left: 0; } ul#mainNav li#quienesSomos a:hover { background-position: 0 -72.9px; top: 0; left: 0; } ul#mainNav li#campamentos a { width: 138px; background: url(../images/campamentosSection.gif) no-repeat 12px 0; top: 0; left: 0; } ul#mainNav li#campamentos a:hover { background-position: 12px -71.2px; top: 0; left: 0; } ul#mainNav li#noticias a { width: 150px; background: url(../images/noticiasSection.gif) no-repeat 14px 0; top: 0; left: 0; } ul#mainNav li#noticias a:hover { background-position: 14px -72.5px; top: 0; left: 0; } ul#mainNav li#aplicacion a { width: 150px; background: url(../images/aplicacionSection.gif) no-repeat 0px 0; top: 0; left: 0; } ul#mainNav li#aplicacion a:hover { background-position: 0px -76.1px; top: 0; left: 0; } ul#mainNav li#contactos a { width: 150px; background: url(../images/contactosSection.gif) no-repeat 0px 0; top: 0; left: 0; } ul#mainNav li#contactos a:hover { background-position: 0px -72.2px; top: 0; left: 0; } This is the HTML: Code:

Hi! I'm trying to implement an image drop-down menu. Everything seems to be working but there is an element that is pushing my second image button down and I can't seems to figure where it's coming from. It seems to be my link that is causing it but i'm stumpped. I've set up a test page so you can see what is happening. the site is at test .sylvaindelisle .com Thanks for taking the time to take a look. Can somebody tell me if this is possible? I have a horizontal menu and I'm using images. I'm using javascript for the drop down menu etc. The menu is an include so it looks the same on all the pages. What I want to do is when I'm on say "Contact" the rollover color (this is an image) displays the "Contact" hover image, and the same with the other pages. So what needs to happen is CSS needs to override the button with the hover image. Is it possible to put css in every page that tells it to display the needed hover image when on that page? Hi, I'm trying to set up my (very basic, horizontal, no dropdown) CSS menu so that when a user hovers over the menu link items, the formatting changes and they basically get an image on mouseover (nothing more than changing the text colour and adding a curve on the left hand side, so it just looks like a selected tab). It kind of works but instead of the whole image showing it only shows in the area where the menu link text is, so instead of covering the height of the menu bar and a length I specify, it's just covering the actual word e.g "Home" in each case on the menu. I can't seem to get it so that on rollover the whole image shows. I've tried setting it so that the links have a background image (just a plain block from the nav bar) but that doesn't work. My CSS is: /* this is the bar where the menu is located */ .menuholder { width:1001px; height:2.19em; background-color:#0f2763; } /*holder for the menu */ div.navigation { margin-left:30px; padding-top:10px; } .navigation ul { list-style-type: none; position: relative; float: left; } .navigation ul li { display: block; padding: 0px 20px 0px 10px; display: inline; height:2.19em; } .navigation ul li a { font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color:#FFF; font-size:14px; font-weight:bold; line-height:18px; width:100px; height:2.19em; text-decoration:none; } .navigation ul li a:hover { color:#0f2763; background-image:url(/images/menutab.gif); width:100px; height:2.19em; } I've tried setting display:block; and float:left; on the .navigation ul li, but this makes the menu become vertical and throws the whole page out of sync. I tried this altrnative code, to no avail: .menuholder { width:1001px; height:2.19em; background-color:#0f2763; } div.navigation { margin-left:30px; padding-top:10px; height:2.19em; } .navigation ul { list-style-type: none; position: relative; float: left; } .navigation ul li { padding: 0px 20px 0px 10px; display: block; float:left; height:2.19em; } .navigation ul li:hover { color:#0f2763; background-image:url(/images/menutab.gif); width:100px; height:2.19em; background-repeat:no-repeat; } .navigation ul li a { font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color:#FFF; font-size:14px; font-weight:bold; line-height:18px; width:100px; height:2.19em; text-decoration:none; display: inline; } Any ideas or pointers gratefully received! If you take at the link below I'm having trouble with the top menu. http://departments.brooklands.ac.uk/ifp/test/ I'm trying to use background images as buttons with normal xhtml text links. But I can't seem to get the text in the middle of the buttons. I think I may be going about this in the wrong way, so if anyone could take a look that would be great. Thanks Jemes Code: #topbar{ padding-top:18px; border: 0px solid #000000; background-image:url(../images/top.gif); background-repeat:no-repeat; height:120px; margin-left:16px; } #topmenu{ margin:32px 0px 0px 30px; font-size: 10pt; font-weight:bold; height:30px; } #topmenu ul{ margin:0px; padding:0px; list-style-type: none; } #topmenu ul li{ padding-right:4px; } .home{ float:left; display:inline; background-image: url(../images/home.gif); background-repeat: no-repeat; height:33px; width:45px; } .active{ float:left; display:inline; background-image: url(../images/top_active.gif); background-repeat: no-repeat; height:33px; width:106px; } .norm{ float:left; display:inline; background-image: url(../images/top_norm.gif); background-repeat: no-repeat; height:33px; width:106px; } #topmenu li a{ text-decoration: none; color: #AC5BA0; padding-right: 0.7em; height:30px; } I have a fairly simple page that is composes of a header and two cols. The left hand col is the menu which I would like to use with background images but these seem not to work. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks for the help. I am having issues with a horizontal menu bar. The menu is supposed to be created with 4 images seamlessly aligned, but I find that there is a 3px space between each when I load the page. This causes the width of the 4 images to exceed the specified width specified for that id and a wraparound occurs. Thanks for the help! Best, Andrew test link: users.tpg.com.au/tetsuo/CSS_help/index.html Hi guys, Im really new to CSS, and doing a bit of crammed-study on it. I finally found a fix that worked on css list navigation that i could use that'll work in IE but i cant seem to center each menu item to each respective rollover image (the BG gifs). Some help on this would be greatly appreciated, i cant seem to find anything to fix this. I've tried several solutions (which is probably why my css might look like a huge mess). the css file is he users.tpg.com.au/tetsuo/CSS_help/awis.html Hi ! Me again :P So this is a simple test i made to try this out. But I ran into a problem. Take a look for yourself: (view-source for xhtml and css) http://fotoz.hit.bg/test/menu.html The problem is that annoying flickering that happens when you roll over. Any ideas how to fix it ? And most importantly why does it occur? Thanks! p.s I should explain what i wanted to do here. Basicly 1 big background image to the
. It will be holding the "over" state of all the buttons. At the same time the elements will be holding images of the "normal" state buttons, and when you hover over them they will disappear and you will see the "hover" state below. It works but I get the flickering with visibility:hidden and even if i just move the img out of the way Hi, I am hoping someone can help me please. I am looking for some code (CSS, PHP or otherwise) to be able to create a drop down menu (with flyout) on mouseover of some pre-existing pictures. I have tried to take some codes which "sort of" do what I need but I'm unable to modify them to do what I need them to. It seems like the varying widths of the PNGs is a sticking point. At the minute I have a navigation bar consisting of 5 PNGs of same height but different widths. I had intended it to work so that when you click on these top links you are given a page for that section, and along the top of that page are "sub links". However, I have changed my mind and would like to keep the current images, but on rollover have a drop down menu appear with the different "sub links" instead of having them on the top of each page. For example I have a PNG which says "About Clan Wars". I would like a mouseover to show a Dropdown with flyout like: >What Is Clan Wars? >What are the rules ----> D Class Rules ----> C Class Rules >Clan Wars 1 ----> Fight Card ----> Pictures ----> Videos >Clan Wars 2 ----> Fight Card ----> Pictures ----> Videos I hope that makes sense to whoever is reading. Thank you Sean I am trying to create a Horizontal Multilevel Drop Down Navigation Menu, but instead of the css creating text i would like them to be images and when you hover over the links they rollover into a new image. I would really like your help on this been trying to do it for weeks now!! Cheers Following sample is from http://www.code-couch.com/jeff/snippets/general/tektips-navigation-example.html is what I am trying to reference to create a template. But how do I how keep the state of Menu on each requested page any help is appreciated. The following menu is saved in a separate jsp file i.e. navs.jsp. I include this navigation jsp file in all of my files. Initially the drop down looks like: Code: . Ask.Jeeves . [+] Google.com . [+] Yahoo.com Now clicking [+] in front of Google.com will look like. Code: . Ask.Jeeves . [-] Google.com . Google.co.ie . Google.co.ie . [+] Google.co.nz . [+] Yahoo.com Lets's say now if I click on Google.co.ie it takes me to sample.jsp and on this requested page (sample.jsp) how can I show the following menu hierarchy with Google.co.ie bold/underlined/colorchanged showing what menu content I clicked and am viewing the appropriate content i.e. Code: . Ask.Jeeves . [-] Google.com . Google.co.ie . Google.co.ie . [+] Google.co.nz . [+] Yahoo.com Same way clicking Google.com or Yahoo.com or Ask.Jeeves shows you the following hierarchy on the requested page with higlight/bold/colored the link we just selected. i.e. Code: . Ask.Jeeves . [+] Google.com . [+] Yahoo.com Any time clicking on the menu takes me to some page but on that page I want to show th hierarchy of the menu all the way to which is recently clicked with different color setting. In IE it's almost there, except that the submenus will only appear one level deep. The menu is created with nested lists. The :hover functionality is simulated via JavaScript for IE 6. The IE developer toolbar shows the 3rd level menu is correctly being changed to display: block when its parent is hovered, and the border the dev toolbar draws even puts it in the correct place, it just doesn't actually appear. You can find the page he http://www.perceptes.com/topdog/ The CSS and JS (uses jQuery) can be found he http://www.perceptes.com/topdog/css/screen.css http://www.perceptes.com/topdog/css/ie.css (loaded with a conditional comment) http://www.perceptes.com/topdog/js/tdps.js http://www.perceptes.com/topdog/js/ie.js (loaded with a conditonal comment) For a specific example of what I'm talking about, try hovering over the second item, Filters & Parts. This will give you another level with four choices. Each of those also has child elements, but when hovered over, the next level doesn't appear. Try it in something other than IE 6 or 7 to see how it's supposed to look. Thanks very much in advance! I am a photographer for a website and I know very little about anything other than basic html. With the website lady gone on a trip around the world for a year, I ended up being the person to attempt to modify our side menu to show an additional column of subcategories. I tinkered around with the code we had and I managed to get this to work in Firefox, however in IE7 the contents of the menu shift down a few pixels when you hover over a category. To view my problem, go to scannerparts.biz I've messed around with this for a few days and everything has become a big confusing mess so I have no choice but give in and ask for help. I thank anyone in advance for any assistance you can offer. -Emerson Here is the code: hover.css Code: <!-- body { behavior: url(/images/csshover2.htc); } div#categorynav ul {margin: 0px; padding: 0px;} .submenu { position: relative; If you roll over the main menu you will see the sub menu slide down on the left. For the life of me I can't get it to line up under the main nav. I've tried many, many things. Can anyone provide a few hints, tips, suggestions?
