CSS - Re-arrange Divs To Place Content Before 'top Bar'
Hey all, I have the following site: http://www.trshady.com
All works fine but for SEO reasons along with my own desire to learn, I'm wanting to know how to change the code so that the layout stays the same, but the content of the page comes first in the code. So I have a 'topbar' div and a 'content' div. Without using absolute posistioning, how can I go about having the content div before the topbar div but still have it display the same as it currently does? Thanks for any help Similar TutorialsHey! Its my first time on this forum, hope your all kind =] Right, ive been trying to make a website using CSS and Div tags, all was going well, i had created my header, placed the banner as a background with no repeat ect, I wanted my menu on the left hand side, so i got that done with rollover images too, and now i want to make two collums next to the menu, one for main content which will go straight down the centre taking most of the page up, and another to the right* of it which will include a 240x400 self made advertisment. But my problem is that i cannot get the content div box to go on the right hand side of the menu insted of underneath it, and dont even ask about the advertisment div box, i cant get it anywhere near, but if you think you could help me here is my HTML: Code: <head> <title>Cupid Stunts Official Website</title> <link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- function MM_swapImgRestore() { //v3.0 var i,x,a=document.MM_sr; for(i=0;a&&i<a.length&&(x=a[i])&&x.oSrc;i++) x.src=x.oSrc; } function MM_preloadImages() { //v3.0 var d=document; if(d.images){ if(!d.MM_p) d.MM_p=new Array(); var i,j=d.MM_p.length,a=MM_preloadImages.arguments; for(i=0; i<a.length; i++) if (a[i].indexOf("#")!=0){ d.MM_p[j]=new Image; d.MM_p[j++].src=a[i];}} } function MM_findObj(n, d) { //v4.01 var p,i,x; if(!d) d=document; if((p=n.indexOf("?"))>0&&parent.frames.length) { d=parent.frames[n.substring(p+1)].document; n=n.substring(0,p);} if(!(x=d[n])&&d.all) x=d.all[n]; for (i=0;!x&&i<d.forms.length;i++) x=d.forms[i][n]; for(i=0;!x&&d.layers&&i<d.layers.length;i++) x=MM_findObj(n,d.layers[i].document); if(!x && d.getElementById) x=d.getElementById(n); return x; } function MM_swapImage() { //v3.0 var i,j=0,x,a=MM_swapImage.arguments; document.MM_sr=new Array; for(i=0;i<(a.length-2);i+=3) if ((x=MM_findObj(a[i]))!=null){document.MM_sr[j++]=x; if(!x.oSrc) x.oSrc=x.src; x.src=a[i+2];} } //--> </script> </head> <body onload="MM_preloadImages('imgs for webite/videos2.gif','imgs for webite/hotspots2.gif','imgs for webite/Showtimes2.gif','imgs for webite/home2.gif','imgs for webite/contestants2.gif')"> <div id="header"> </div> <div id="content_wrap"> <div id="menu"> <ul> <li><a href="#" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('Home','','imgs for webite/home2.gif',1)"><img src="imgs for webite/Home1.gif" alt="Home" name="Home" width="150" height="46" border="0" id="Home" /></a></li> <li><a href="#" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('Contestants','','imgs for webite/contestants2.gif',1)"><img src="imgs for webite/contestants1.gif" alt="Contestants" name="Contestants" width="150" height="46" border="0" id="Contestants" /></a></li> <li><a href="#" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('Videos','','imgs for webite/videos2.gif',1)"><img src="imgs for webite/Videos1.gif" alt="Videos" name="Videos" width="150" height="46" border="0" id="Videos" /></a></li> <li><a href="#" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('Hotspots','','imgs for webite/hotspots2.gif',1)"><img src="imgs for webite/hotspots1.gif" alt="Hot Spots" name="Hotspots" width="150" height="46" border="0" id="Hotspots" /></a></li> <li><a href="#" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('Show Times','','imgs for webite/Showtimes2.gif',1)"><img src="imgs for webite/Showtimes1.gif" alt="Show Times" name="Show Times" width="150" height="46" border="0" id="Show Times" /></a></li> </ul> <div id="main_content"> </div> </div> </div> </body> </html> AND THE CSS: [css] body {background-color: #000;} #header { width:100%; height:149px; background:url(imgs%20for%20webite/banner.gif) center no-repeat; } #content_wrap { clear:both; width:100%; height:100%; } #menu li { display:block; width:150px; margin:0 0 0 5%; } #main_content { height:100%; width:40%; float:right; [/css] I have tried everything i know But its not enough ='[ Hi! I've got a problem thats driving me mad. i got two divs inside my Content-div. The Text-div and the Box-div at the moment they are arranged like this: data.fuskbugg.se/dipdip/thisishowitis.jpg In the Box-div i've inserted two pictures that i want vertical aligned and the Box-div should be to the right i want it to look like this data.fuskbugg.se/dipdip/howitshouldbe.jpg with the Text-div and the Box-div next to each other. NOT on top of each other PLEASE help me out / Dippah Ok, so I've learned to stay away from tables when you don't need them, and I have an instance where this is the case. I have a container div that has a header, content and a footer. On my home page, I have to divs next to each other with the same height and a div below them towards the right. To simplify my problem, look at this example. Code: <html> <body> <div style="float:right"> Hello there! </div> <hr> </body> </html> If there's a "float:right" on that div, the hr tag below doesn't get pushed down. But if I use relative positioning and don't use the floats, I can't put the two top divs next to each other. The other option is to use absolute positioning, but again content below doesn't get pushed down correctly. It seems that using "clear:both" works, but it seems weird that this has to be done. For example if I have floating divs in a container, I can get them to stretch out the container like so: Code: <html> <body> <div style="border: 1px solid #000; "> <div style="float:right"> Hello there!<br /> Hello there!<br /> Hello there!<br /> Hello there!<br /> Hello there!<br /> Hello there!<br /> Hello there!<br /> </div> <div style="clear: both"></div> </div> <hr> </body> </html> Am I missing something fundamental here? Is there a better solution? Thanks in advance. i have a site that if the page isn't cached, some of the content starts like, at the top of the page and then shifts in to it's positioned place. why does this happen? how can i stop it? I hate to make this a forum post, as I am sure this issue comes up all the time. I've found a few blogs on this matter, but their fixes are not working for me. I am building a template @ http://curt.homelinux.com/campaign I have one main wrapper div called 'frame' that is supposed to wrap around all of the divs inside of it. All the while I had it set to a fixed height and just now realized that I need to attack this issue. Since the content will be dynamic, the 'frame' should be able to shrink and grow with the child divs. If any of you know how I can accomplish this, your help is greatly appreciated. hey all just new to layouts with CSS and having a few problems i managed to get divs to go side by side (not sure if it the best way to do it). now my content area divs are going crazy the bottom one appears on top and cuts into the navigation etc. Here is the HTML : Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; Cheers Lance Hi, I'm racking my brain here and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. First of all, I have a "sidebar" div that is being pushed outside of the page, even though there is plenty of room for it in the content. http://65.175.116.253/design/demo.html I have included the CSS below, followed by the HTML and you can get the rar file for the entire layout at the following link http://65.175.116.253/design/design.rar I've been racking my head! All I want is the side bar, the two boxes way off to the right, to be floated to the right hand side of the screen, contained within the page. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Mari-Anne in Montana Hi everyone I have a 3 column layout with a footer. If the content ends up being too wide for the middle column (ie a large data table) I can't get the middle column to push the right hand column beyond the width of the screen. If the right column is absolutely positioned, the middle column just continues underneath the right column (overlaps). If the right column is floated right, it just drops down below the middle column. What I want it to do is bring up a horizontal scroll bar in the browser and let people scroll across for the right column. Based on the code below, if anyone has any ideas I would be unbelievably greatful. I've been pulling my hair out all day... My HTML is as follows: Code: <div id="content_container"> <div id="lft"> ... </div> <div id="mainbody"> .... </div> <div id="rght"> ... </div> <div id="footer"> ... </div> </div> My relevant CSS is as follows: Code: #content_container { position: relative; min-height: 100%; top: 0; left: 0; width: auto; height: auto; border: 1px solid red; } #lft { float: left; left: 0; top: 0; width: 24%; visibility: visible; } #mainbody { position: relative; left: 0; top: 0; width: 50%; height: auto; visibility: visible; } #rght { position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; width: 22%; visibility: visible; padding-right: 10px; } #footer { float: left; bottom: 0; left: 0; top: 0; clear: both; width: 100%; margin-top: 40px; padding-top: 15px; padding-bottom: 15px; visibility: visible; } Hi everyone. I have a header with a menu div inside of it with the following settings: position: absolute margin-left: 250px margin-right: auto and height... Now, below that menu, I have a sub menu - it uses the same settings, with a bigger height of course, but it is styled completely different. The idea is, I want the sub menu to be different for every page the user is on. The main menu may change, I.e., have an extra menu item in it for specific pages. So, this is what I am trying to achieve... If MAIN MENU is a longer length then SUB MENU, I would like the sub menu to be the same width. Keeping in mind that the main menu is fluid and width is not set. Now, alternatively, if the SUB MENU is longer than the main menu, I would like the main menu to be the same length as the sub menu, again, keeping in mind that the sub menu is also fluid and will change width depending on the number of menu items. I mean, I know I could just set some arbitrary width for both, something I am sure will be wide enough despite what is inside of each menu, but I'd really rather avoid doing that, I don't want them both to always be X width, rather, I want the width to be able to change, but both at the same time, not one or the other. I hope that explains what I'm trying to accomplish here, if not, please feel free to ask any questions that would help you understand what I mean better. Thank you much. Here's the site in Question: http://www.winchps.vic.edu.au It's a standard fixed width floated DIV columns with a wrapper. One thing it does have is a second DIV inside both columns to display the Gradient background over the top of the repeated background. It works perfect in Firefox & IE7 (with a tweak) but IE6 mkes the sidebar nested div drop below the original sidebar DIV click here for a screenshot for those lucky enough not to have IE6. Here's the CSS code for the basic layout: Code: body { font-family: 'Lucida Grande', Verdana, Arial, Sans-Serif; font-size: 12px; text-align: center; margin: 0px 0px 60px 0px; padding:0px; border: 0; line-height: 2; } #header { width: 802px; } #wrapper { width: 802px; margin:0px; padding: 0px; text-align: left; margin: 0 auto; background: url(images/bodybg.jpg) center repeat-y; } #content { padding: 0px; margin: 0px; } #maingrad { background: url(images/winchcontentgrad.jpg) top left repeat-x; padding: 10px; } #main { width: 589px; float: right; background: url(images/winchcontentbg.jpg) repeat; border-left: solid 1px #000; border-right: solid 1px #000; } #mainstop { width: 589px; float: right; background: url(images/winchcontentbg.jpg) repeat; border-left: solid 1px #000; border-right: solid 1px #000; border-bottom: solid 1px #000; font-size: 10px; } #sidebargrad { background: url(images/winchsidebargrad.jpg) top left repeat-x; padding: 10px 5px 0px 10px; } #sidebar { width: 200px; float: left; background: url(images/winchsidebg.jpg) repeat; line-height: 2; font-size: 14px; border-left: solid 1px #000; border-right: solid 1px #000; } I obviously need to put a conditional comment in there, same for what I did for the minor IE7 tweak, but I'm struggling to suss out what's causing it, I haven't found the specific issue on any of the regular sites (PIE etc). Anyone got any ideas? Centering DIVs inside other DIVs in Firefox? Can it be done in a straight forward way? Setting the inner DIVs float to none seemed to work for IE but not FF. The Example I've read a bunch about how div's won't stretch to accomidate div's inside of them if they overrun the height/min-height set for the container div. How do I get around this? You can see the skeleton of the site above. It's fine unless you resize the window smaller than the content. Hi, after having the problem with the div's in IE I got a new problem. I got a clock placed in my sidebar and under it there is some text. In FF it's placed right but in IE not again :S How can I fix this? For what I mean go he celticblues dot com/test/test.html I could do the same thing via photoshop, but I want to do it with CSS as I have several to do and I am not sure of the relative sizes yet and don't want to keep redoing the photoshop thing. Ed Hi Everyone, I've been trying for weeks now to get my footer to sit at the bottom of my screen. I've read all of the how-to articles regarding footers and tried what seems like everything! After some investigation with Firebug I've determined that my problem seems to be some of my "wrapper" divs. My container and pagewrapper divs should be encompassing everything on the screen but they are not. If you wouldn't mind taking a look for me, I would REALLY appreciate it. Right now I have the grey footer just chillin' in the middle of the page as you can see. www.RoundtopRiders.com/v2/ THANK YOU!!! Jason Hi there, I have a content glider script, but I have added it to a wrapper with a background image. The css is using a white background colour so when a new layer is glided up, it covers the one underneath it. However, I want the background to be transparent to show the background image underneath.... If I remove the white background, they layers become transparent and overlay each other, so you can see all text in the layers on top of each other making it impossible to read. Is there anyway I can make it so it has a transparent background, but so it will not show the content under the new slide? This is my CSS: PHP Code: .glidecontentwrapper{ position: relative; /* Do not change this value */ height: 230px; /* Set height to be able to contain height of largest content shown*/ overflow: hidden; } /* Total wrapper width: 350px+5px+5px=360px Or width of wrapper div itself plus any left and right CSS border and padding Adjust related containers below according to comments */ .glidecontent{ /*style for each glide content DIV within wrapper.*/ position: absolute; /* Do not change this value */ background: white; visibility: hidden; width: 330px; } /* Total glidecontent width: 330px+10px+10px=350px Or width of wrapper div itself (not counting wrapper border/padding) */ .glidecontenttoggler{ /*style for DIV used to contain toggler links. */ width: 360px; margin-top: 6px; text-align: center; /*How to align pagination links: "left", "center", or "right" background: white; /*always declare an explicit background color for fade effect to properly render in IE*/ } Any help would be great! Thanks. Hello. This is the first time I've tried a complete CSS layout, and I just have one bothersome problem. I have everything inside a #container div. I have a min-height set for the container, since in Firefox if I don't have that it just wraps the border around the background image. No matter where I put the footer div, it hangs over the min-height border. However, if I put footer inside another tag called content ( #content #footer { ) it does stay in. But I don't even have a content div in the css! I'm so confused. *lol* Furthermore, by using Float for the navigation div instead of absolute positioning, it shows up with several pixels difference between IE and Firefox. If anyone could help me with this, I would be much obliged. The page is he http://frenziedsilence.com/nygiml/index.php And the CSS: http://frenziedsilence.dom/nygiml/nygiml.css thanks in advance.. -kathryn Hi, I have a problem with creating a CSS banner div. I can't seem to get the .centeredbox to the absolute top of the page, while keeping it centered with auto margin: Code: <html> <head> <title>Untitled Document</title> <style> .wrapperbox {text-align: center; } .centeredbox {width: 682px; margin: 0 auto 0 auto; text-align:left; background-color: #000000;BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP: #000000 11px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid;} </style> <div class="wrapperbox"></div> <div class="centeredbox"></div> </head> <body> </body> </html> With this code it keeps a little space between the div and the top of the page. I don't want that space . Does anyone have a solution? |
