CSS - Fixing Web Page Width
Hi
I don't know if this is a CSS issue, but how do you allow limit the movement of web pages when you drag IE window. So if its fixed it can be structured so that it can be seen by users who have a resolution of 800 X 600. And if its not fixed, then the page is stretched when you enlarge the window. Cheers Similar TutorialsHi guys, I have a query, im trying to create the effect, that this site has. I have tried using the following code in my style sheet. h3 { position:absolute; bottom:330px; top:670px; } but the link still moves around when you minimise the browser on the site. Bear in mind I have a think black border as well which runs all around the screen. Any help would be much appreciated. Hi all I am using a style sheet with the print media type to controll how my site looks when it is printed out. It works very well the only problem being that I have <div>s which make boxes for the content and I would like for the boxes to not get split upon diffrent pages. Idealy I would like to make it so that if the the <div> is going to split over two pages it just gets put at the start of the next page. This probaly isn't possiable but you never know. Any Ideas would be helpfull Nick Carlevaris Howcome: html, body { color: #06F; background-color: #000; font-size: 16px; text-align: center; width: 768px; } Doesn't center the page in the browser? I'm new to web development and I'm trying to figure out how to make my page a set width, if the view size is less than a certain amount I want the width scroll bar to appear as opposed to the default which rearranges everything? Some examples of what I'm talking about: youtube stackoverflow darkroastedblend (can't post urls) Can anyone point me in the right direction or show me how this is done please? I am trying to build a website and am having problems limiting the width. I need it to go a little something like this ....I need the page width to be limited to 800 pixels so the contents stops on that ?boundary On http://www.h****inson.co.uk/h****inson5.4 (I guess you can work out the name of the site...I've used a tiny-url in the link though) a horizontal scrollbar is displayed even though there is not content (as far as I can see) that is pushing the sides out this far. Although it is not detremental to the website, can anyone please suggest what is wrong. The main css code is at http://www.h****inson.co.uk/h****inson5.4/files/css.css Thanks for any help. I am trying to update an old site with lots of pages, I am trying to create a printing stylesheet (first time as you may guess) I have managed to exclude what I do not want to print but some text is still running off the RHS of the page. I have tried playing with page widths and margins but to no effect, any suggestions? this is what I currently have: TBODY { position: static; width: 700px; margin: 0 auto; } Greetings, I am writing a page that uses CSS to currently place three columns, left, center, and right. I have written the graphics and remainder of the page to fit 1024 x 768. However, when I execute the page, my columns fill the entire resolution (for instance 1280 x 1024) rather than fitting into a 1024 width. What I would like to do is constrain my three columns to a total width of 1024px. The three columns in my CSS look something like this: Code: #leftcol { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; font-weight: bolder; border: thin none #EF4138; margin: 4px; padding: 4px; width: 220px; position: absolute; height: 280px; left: 1px; top: 354px; background-color: #FFFFFF; } #centercol { border: thin none #EF4138; margin: 4px 240px; padding: 4px; } #rightcol { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; font-weight: normal; border: thin none #EF4138; margin: 4px; padding: 4px; position: absolute; height: 280px; width: 220px; top: 354px; right: 1px; } Is there a CSS command that can constrain these three columns to be only 1024, or must I use an HTML table? Thanks, Korky I'm using this html: Code: <div id="titlebox"> <div id="title"> <img src="images/title.png" alt="Garden Pub & Grille" />. </div> </div> with this css: Code: html, body { font-family: Century Gothic; text-align: center; background-color: #DEF9FA; height: 100%; min-width: 100%; margin: 0; padding: 0; top: 0px; position: relative; } body > #container { height: auto; min-height: 100%; min-width: 100%; } #titlebox div { background-color: black; position: absolute; min-width: 100%; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; left: 0px; top: 0px; height: 64px; z-index: 1000; } #title div { width: 1000px; background-color: black; } Trying to get a black bar across the top with an image centered in it. Problem is, when the page is smaller than the content and there is a horizontal scrollbar, the black bar only goes to the edge of the window, but when you scroll right, it dissapears and is cut off. I have a similar setup on the bottom of the page that works correctly (a table with links is inside that one). Why is this not working? Thanks. URL Image doesn't seem to be showing up, link: http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/5697/29946518.png is it possible? its the banner... the content spans around 1000 pixels wide so with 100% width i miss a piece when i scroll to right of page just making the body around 1000 pixels seems to get a horizontal scrollbar when its not needed for the content....either that or its just missing some pixels... cant a div be 100% of the page? I have a layout that has text in a left div and the form input in the right. I want the form input to be 100% width of DIV.standard_field_right not 100% width of the entire page. Can someone give me a hint please. CSS and XHTML below: PHP Code: DIV.standard_field_container { width: 98%; padding: 0.4em; border: 1px solid #8B8B8B; background-color: #E2E2E2; overflow: hidden; } DIV.standard_field_left { width: 10em; float: left; margin-right: 5em; font: bold 0.8em Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; } DIV.standard_field_right { font: normal 0.8em Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; } SPAN.standard_field_type_info { font-weight: normal; color: #ff0000; border-bottom: 1px dashed #ff0000; cursor: help; } INPUT.input_text_field { width: 30em; } XHTML: PHP Code: <div class="standard_field_container"> <div class="standard_field_left"> <span class="standard_field_name"><?php echo $field_definition[1]; ?></span> <span class="standard_field_type_info" title="<?php echo $field_definition[7]; ?>">Information</span> </div> <div class="standard_field_right"> <span class="standard_field_input_area"><input name="<?php echo $field_definition[0]; ?>" type="text" id="<?php echo $field_definition[0]; ?>" maxlength="<?php echo $field_definition[10]; ?>"<?php if ($value_applies == '1') { ?> value="<?php echo $row["$field_definition[0]"]; ?>" <?php } ?> class="input_text_field" /></span> </div> </div> Hello, I am having a problem getting the section that says WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS HAVE TO SAY to span the entire right side of the page. I would like to set it up so that no matter what screen resolution the page is viewed in, that section will stretch all the way to the right side. Any suggestions? http://www.discinsights.com/cyber/Scripts/default.asp Thanks ahead of time! can it be done? ideally in IE5-6 and Netscape6+ cheers I'm trying to set a background image that spans from edge to edge in my browser window. Currently, I have everything set up and positioned as I'd like, but the image stops just short of reaching the very edges of the browser window on the left and right sides. The image itself is 2000px wide, so that various browser widths show the continuation of the image. You can see the problem I have at URL Notice the blue lines on either side aren't quite making it to the edge of the browser. The relevant CSS is located at URL The .main div at the bottom is the one with the background image code. Thank you for any help offered. I don't mind telling yall, I'm a bit hesitant to post here, only because I'm very new to html and css, just learning. Folks here are far above my ability, I've got many of the pages on site bookmarked for reference. I'm taking this plunge because I'm ready to rip hairs one by one on a problem. I have a friend who originally made a site in a builder program *shudders* and he has asked me to convert it to more conventional pages (he's determined to keep this theme and I'm not good enough to remake the entire site by hand yet). This program created every thing on the pages as a Div with css styling embedded in the document. Ive got everything working perfectly except that I can not for the life of me get the Div.banner to stretch the width of pages in order for it to span the width of any resolution. What I'm trying to do is simply (or should be) make a 93px by 3 or 4 px bar repeat the length of the div. Here is the code its using at this time. Code: <STYLE TYPE="text/css"> DIV.banner { position:absolute; top:0px; left:0px; z-index:0; } ....</STYLE> <DIV class="banner"><IMG SRC="images/vbar.PNG" WIDTH=900 HEIGHT=93 BORDER=0></DIV> The above works but its a fixed width and I would like it to be full width no matter what resolution ones using. I have tried making the Div class="banner" use a width=100%. This causes the image to be shown at top=0 and left=0 once only. I tried adding background-repeat repeat-x to the css code. Any other changes I make like removing the Width from the Div class all together causes it to just go away. I've been able to manipulate everything else from this horrible theme fine except this. I'm sure there is something simple I'm missing and if you need to see more of the index page code just let me know (its not online at this time). I didn't want to put in too much stuff and being such a n00b at all this, I'm learning so be gentle with me.. Thanks in Advance Me I'm having a serious brain fart here...I must have come across this issue a million times before but I guess I haven't thought about it for so long, that I'm at a loss.... Very simply, I want to have a horizontal menu using text (ie not images) that will fill to fit the width of the page. Now I'd want to make there be a min-width and I can do that, but there's got to be a way to have the padding between the items adjust depending on how wide the browser is, right? And I should be able to do this with CSS and not have to use tables right? In other words, the width of the individual menu items will remain the same, but in a browser that's say 800px wide the space between the first item will be very near the left side of the page, and the last item will be very near the right side of the page and the items will be spaced evenly between them. But if the page is 1200px wide, the first and last items will still be very left and very right, but the spacing in between the rest of them will be bigger so that it fills the page width. ?????????/ Hi, I have hit the "wall" in my knowledge of CSS while trying to implement a "flex-width-equal-height-sidebar-layout" style of layout as a skin/theme for a message board system and need some help. My trouble occurs when a direct link to the post is used (instead of following the menu navigation system) where the top menu information/links area (the area between the banner and the post) is chopped off... The relevant portion of the CSS seems to be the .col_wrap {margin-top: 10px; border: 0; overflow: hidden; float: left; width: 100%; position: relative; z-index: 10; clear: both;} portion of my CSS because if I take out the overflow:hidden declaration then the menu portion of the skin/theme/layout shows correctly but the sidebar the shows the part which should be hidden at the bottom and the footer completely vanishes from view! My apologies but this is the best I can do without having the ability to post pics or urls which could better explain what is wrong and frankly speaking I don't know how anyone here can help given my inability to show the problem but hopefully someone knows or has run into this problem before or can offer some resources that may be of assistance.... i ve been playing with my page and been trying to modify the width of the page (divs) according to the browswer's width. The problem is i want the navigation menu on left to be fixed width (say 200px) and the center div and the right column to be variable width. Also, i want to set a minimum width , so that the floating divs dont roll below the navigation menu. here s the link to the page. try reducing ur browser windows size . the content div rolls down under theleft nav menu. http://ccc.1asphost.com/pacemakerpr...r/cicuitlab.htm Also , i get wierd result in netscape navigator. please help I have an absolutely positioned <div> containing a block of text. I have not specified a width for this <div>. This <div> is nested within another <div> for which I have specified a width of 200px. So something like: html4strict Code: Original - html4strict Code <div style="position: relative; width: 200px;"> <div style="position: absolute; top: 10px; left: 20px; z-index: 100;"> Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Curabitur eu purus a tellus mollis consequat. Phasellus aliquam sapien quis mauris. </div> </div> <div style="position: relative; width: 200px;"> Since the absolutely positioned <div> is not part of the page's normal flow, I would expect that its width would expand according to its contents (and the browser window's boundries). Instead, in Firefox only, the width of the absolutely positioned <div> expands only to the width of its parent - in this case 200px. Am I doing something wrong? or is there a workaround for this? |
