CSS - Text Overlapping In My Headlines. Why?
Can't figure this one out...
I'm building my personal site. On one of the pages, I'm making a "timeline" of my life, if you will. It's the page I'm having trouble with and is located here. If you look at the 3rd entry (December 12, 1978), you can see in both FF and IE where the text is overlapping. It seems that is the entry is short enough everything is fine, but if it's too long, it does what you see. CSS file is here I'd post the part I thought was relevant here, but since I don't think the obvious spot is the problem (my suspicion is that the problem is elsewhere in the file), you might need the whole thing. I'd appreciate any help, folks. Thanks! Chris Similar TutorialsI have a problem, completed a simple website for a client but now they tell me that the image on the page is overlapping text on right, for some reason I cannot see that I see it working, can someone please have a look at http://www.woodenitbenicecfw.com and tell me if you see the overlapping and why it might be happening. Thanks Tim I'm a little new to the use of css for layouts and had a few little problems on the way. The major problem I haven't been able to solve can be seen in the following 2 pictures. From what I have read before IE misinterrupts the box idea a bit so it might be the fact that IE is just showing it up wrong giving me false hope. IE - URL Netscape - URL I want to have the div have a minimum height as I state in the stylesheet, and then the div will stretch to the height of the text if that is higher than the minimum height. The code I have comes out the way I wish it to in IE but in Netscape and Firefox, the background color stays to the div height given, but the text overflows. I have tried playing with the overflow options but this did not seem to work. I have a feeling it is just a simple solution but I may be far off with the way it is designed with the blocks and inline, etc. I looked at a few examples and tutorials on the web and this is what I have come up with. The actual website of this has lots more content but I am trying to not make it too complicated and then I will apply it to the site. Any help would be greatly appreciated. URL is URL Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/REC-html401-19991224/loose.dtd"> <html> <head> <title>Untitled Document</title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> <link href="style1.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"> </head> <body> <div id="wrapper"> <div id="header"> <div id="logo"> <p>logo</p> </div> <div id="headerPic"> <p>headerpic</p> </div> </div> <div id="menu"> menu </div> <div id="middle"> <div id="contentPic"> <p>d</p> </div> <div id="content"> <p> overflowing text is here </p> </div> </div> <div id="footer"> <div id="footerLeft"> <p>left footer</p> </div> <div id="footerCenter"> <p>center footer</p> </div> <div id="footerRight"> <p>right footer</p> </div> </div> </div> </body> </html> ********************************************* Code: #wrapper { background-color: #000000; width: 750px; text-align: left; margin: auto; } body { background-color: #CCCCCC; margin: 0px; text-align:center; } #header { background-color: #FFFF00; display: block; height: 100px; } #menu{ background-color: #00FF00; display: block; width: 750px; height: 50px; } #middle{ background-color: #CC0099; display: block; height: 320px; } #footer { background-color: #6699CC; display: block; height: 30px; } #logo{ display: inline; width: 200px; height: 100px; float: left; } #headerPic { display: inline; width: 550px; height: 100px; float: left; } #contentPic { display: inline; width: 200px; height: 320px; float: left; } #content { display: inline; width: 550px; height: 320px; float: left; } #footerLeft { display: inline; width: 100px; float: left; } #footerCenter { display: inline; width: 450px; float: left; } #footerRight { display: inline; width: 200px; float: left; } http://www.mrossana.com/eesdvr/ The main thing that I am worried about here is in the header. The header looks exactly the way I want it to in Firefox (Mac and PC) and Safari (Mac), but, in Internet Explorer, the "headerborder" div overlaps the ul menu in the "header" div. The "header" ul comes before the "headerborder" div in the code, so, with the negative top marging, the "headerborder" div should be behind the ul menu. Any ideas on how to fix this in IE? Do I have to add some z-index values? Or is there a better way to do this layout? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Regards Rupam New construction of a website. I've had no issue with any css. As soon as I started to put in my blog (Wordpress), I realized that changing a would effect other tags that were no encased in this . I dismissed as a flaw in my code that wasn't working correctly with the Wordpress theme. However, now I'm have the same issue with an RSS reader. The code works perfectly in IE9 and Chrome v7. But, it doesn't work in Firefox. http://www.imzac.com/truf.php http://www.imzac.com/common/master.css In the recent post section, you see my heading is larger and has a different weight. This is the only tag that code has allotted for these properties. However, it effects the "Continue Reading" and the link at the footer of my page. Again, no issues in IE9 and Chrome v7. Here's the RSS feed script. What's you're looking for is about halfway down and then near the end. It's the <title> lines. EDIT: Fixed this problem with a "position:absolute", but I'm not sure if this was the best way to solve it or not, or if I'll run into this problem again soon The problem I'm referring to can be seen he http://www.bertelsen.ca/microeconomics/micro-class-2 If you scroll down to the bottom it seems as though there is a white border overlapping some of the text. I really don't know how to explain it past that. Any suggestions? I am having two problems: Both involve this page http://oharenoise.org/new/ 1. The Contact Us, found on the left-hand side of the page (in grey column) butts up right against the navy blue box above it. This does not occur in all browsers, ie Firefox. 2. The buttons on to the right of the flash animation overlaps the navigation. Any help with these are much appreciated. Hi All, Still working on a site for a friend. www dot helenstow-cpsychol.co.uk/faqs dot html On this page, I want the scrolling '#content1' box to be about 200-250 pixels longer, but in making it longer it overlaps vertically with other elements on the page ('#nav1' etc) and displaces them. The way elements are placed relative to each other was designed by someone very kind on another forum. I find it quite confusing to be honest (Im a total newb.) and was wondering if this is the best way to do this or if there is a way of aligning elements by just specifying where on the page they should be without necessarily affecting the position of other elements? (Is this possible using z-index?) If this is possible, how might I go about it and is it a good or bad idea? (the guy who helped me previously appeared to be pretty smart, so I'm guessing there's a reason he laid things out the way he did) Here is my CSS: Code: * { padding:0; margin:0; list-style-type:none; I would be incredibly grateful for any and all help. My very best wishes, Tom Hi... I am not a coder, Im new at this. Im not even really sure how to explain my problem either, so bear with me, please. I am working on a theme for a site that allows you to edit the css style applied to the page, like myspace.com. Unfortunately there are limitations to this, like how many section IDs there are and such. In order to make a custom page, I am using ordered lists in BBcode. In forefox, I was able to move the ordered lists outside of their section by using positioning, but unfortunately in IE, it would not allow this. Basically the lists would be hidden/invisible outside of the section element parameters. So, again in order to work around this, I made the section the ordered lists were in cover the entire page. Firefox handled this fine, and the elements on the page worked together so long as text was not right on top of links etc. IE, no such luck. The links in another section do not activate even though they are not visually overlapping. This creates a problem for me, as I will now need to make another ordered list to create links which will activate. Is there a way I can get around this? Because I have a section which covers the entire page in IE, and overlaps onto other sections, I'm looking for code which will allow the sections in IE to overlap without causing one section or the other to behave incorectly. Anyway, here is the link to my page so you can see what I mean. The links in question are the little glowy circles. They work in firefox, but they only appear in IE and will not act as links. Any help would be appreciated. I dont mind re-doing the code and the lists in order to avoid adding more code to create links which work. http://www.gaiaonline.com/profile/index.php?view=profile.ShowProfile&item=305091 Thanks Kim I'm new with CSS and have been trying to find an answer to an issue with overlapping divs in my layout. It's a two-column type layout -- the left side should stay static width and the right should resize with the window. Right now, if you close the window enough, the two divs overlap. What am I doing wrong here? I prefer that they not overlap and that the right side (#maincontent) just resize vertically/scroll. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here's some of the CSS: Code: #content { margin-top: 24px; position: relative; width: 100%; overflow: auto } #maincontent { position: relative; right: 8%; width: 56%; float: right } #sidebar { position: absolute; width: 404px; float: left } whats is wrong with my code???? why is css-drop-down overlapping my category text??? can u figure it out???? Code:- http://aquaciti.com/tools/index.htm thnx for your help I'm attempting to create three layers, each containing a selection list form item, only one of which will be visible at any one time, based on the selection of another selection list (not shown in the code below). The layers must be centered within a Table cell: Code: <table style="width:90%"> <tr> <td style="text-align:center;"> <div id="layer1" style="width:100%;"> <select id="select1"> <option selected>Option 1</option> <option>Option 2</option> </select> </div> <div id="layer2" style="width:100%;"> <select id="select2"> <option selected>Option A</option> <option>Option B</option> </select> </div> <div id="layer3" style="width:100%;"> <select id="select3"> <option selected>Option 1A</option> <option>Option 2B</option> </select> </div> </td> </tr> </table> . . This alone renders each layer sequentially, one on top of the other, vertically on the page, which is not what I want. I have tried using z-index values, but I think the problem stems more from the position value. I have tried using: Code: position:relative; left:0px; top:0px; on each layer, but nothing changes. I then tried using: Code: position:absolute; left:0px; top:0px; on each layer, and the layers *did* overlap each other, but were placed at the top of the page. So before I tear out all of my hair, does anyone have a suggestion for how to place these layers within a table cell so that they are a) centered horizontally within the cell, and b) overlap each other? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! - coredumped. hi there trying to create a overlapping div but this wouldn't work Code: #overlapBar { position:absolute; width: 250px; height: 270px; z-index: 2; top: 10px; left: 600px; } but with a layer it does work Code: <div id="overlapBar" style="position:absolute; left:600px; top:5px; width:250px; height:270px; z-index:1 "> I like to have all my css in one file, so how can I overlap and position with <div> thnks in advance I'm trying to overlap two divs -- currently works fine in FF, but not IE 6 or 7. I'm having some trouble with IE and getting images to overlap two <div>'s. If you look at this page using Firefox: http://209.123.229.141/hatz/index.html User: hatz Pword: hatz Then you can see the correct layout. If you view it in IE, then you will see that the images are in the top <div> only and will not overlap. CSS He http://209.123.229.141/hatz/css/ (Images used are only examples found on the Internet. Client will be providing images of their actual hats.) |
