CSS - Issue With Safari For #header
Hi,
www.personaldevelopment.ca looks great in firefox and IE, but in konqeror/safari (i test in konq because it uses the same html rendering engine) the top left is stretched a tad further than it should. Anyone have any suggestions to fix this? I am out of ideas. http://www.uberwald.com/images/pdtop.jpg (Thanks zAlanm) Thanks. tdela Similar TutorialsSo, here's what I've got: http://www.anthonycarboni.com The header is supposed to appear 50 pixels high, flush with the top (no margins), with the header text middle aligned inside of it. This is working in IE 6 and 7, but is not working well in FF (mac/pc) or in Safari. Here is all code that pertains to that section. It is sure to be woefully poor, as I'm just getting into CSS: Code: body { color: #FFFFFF; background-color: #000000; font-family: 'ArialMT', 'Arial', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: 0; line-height: 19px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; opacity: 1.00; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; min-width: 800px; } .main{ background-color: #202020; width: 800px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: left; } .header{ height: 50px; background-image: url('images/header.jpg'); background-repeat: repeat; } p.headline { font-size: 32px; font-weight: bold; text-transform: uppercase; text-align: center; letter-spacing: 0.8em; vertical-align: middle; } And there you have it. I'm tearing my hair out over what I'm sure is some small thing that anyone with experience would notice immediately. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! My site displays correctly in Firefox and IE (which was hassle enough) but when I view it in Safari on my Macbook, the last nav menu item is pushed down below the rest of the menu instead of in line with the rest of the menu. I just got my macbook, and I'm not very in touch with al of Safari's quirks yet, but I was under the impression that it was more reliable than FF or IE. Does anyone have any idea what's causing this, and how I can fix it? http://www.wwu.edu/~swing This main navigation does not display properly in Safari and I was hoping somone might be able to tell me why http://hometown.tmhdesign.com Hello. I just created my first web layout using DWCS4 with CSS. On desktop browsers, it view great. However, when I view it on my iphone, the divs are not connected and a line is shown. The line goes away when I pinch in to view but reappears when I zoom back out. How can I fix this? My header div and content div contains an image and are set to no borders. Hi All, I was wondering if someone could help and take a look at this. I have a site that is not displaying correctly in chrome and also Safari (at least on the iPhone). The rest of the page is fine, but these images appear stretched vertically (the horizontal width appears OK). The CSS for the element is: CSS Code: Original - CSS Code .keybox{float:left;margin:1px;width:100%;text-align:justify;padding:0px;padding:5px;line-height:100%;} .keybox img{float:left;width:35%;padding:0px;margin:0px;} .keybox div{float:right;width:60%;padding:1%;} .keybox div ul{text-align:left;margin:0px;padding:0px;} .keybox{float:left;margin:1px;width:100%;text-align:justify;padding:0px;padding:5px;line-height:100%;} The html for the element is: html Code: Original - html Code <div class='keybox'> <img class='products_images' src='/images/powerparts.gif' alt='Perkins Generator Parts Basket' /> <div> <h2><a href='/diesel_generator_ranges/www_support_spares/'>Perkins and Volvo Spares </a></h2> <p> ".COMPANY_SHORTNAME." spares for <strong>Perkins Engines</strong> and <strong>Volvo Penta engines</strong>. <strong>Mecc Alte AVR</strong>, <strong>Newage Stamford AVR</strong> and many other makes. </p> <ul> <li><a href='/parts/perkins/'>Perkins Spare Parts</a></li> <li><a href='/parts/volvo/'>Volvo Spare Parts</a></li> <li><a href='/parts/mecc-alte/'>Mecc Alte Spare Parts</a></li> <li><a href='/parts/newage-stamford/'>Newage Stamford Spare Parts</a></li> </ul> </div> </div> <div class='keybox'> <img class='products_images' src='/images/powerparts.gif' alt='Perkins Generator Parts Basket' /> <div> <h2><a href='/diesel_generator_ranges/www_support_spares/'>Perkins and Volvo Spares </a></h2> <p> ".COMPANY_SHORTNAME." spares for <strong>Perkins Engines</strong> and <strong>Volvo Penta engines</strong>. <strong>Mecc Alte AVR</strong>, <strong>Newage Stamford AVR</strong> and many other makes. </p> <ul> <li><a href='/parts/perkins/'>Perkins Spare Parts</a></li> <li><a href='/parts/volvo/'>Volvo Spare Parts</a></li> <li><a href='/parts/mecc-alte/'>Mecc Alte Spare Parts</a></li> <li><a href='/parts/newage-stamford/'>Newage Stamford Spare Parts</a></li> </ul> </div> </div> The image stretches - it works fine on firefox and IE8. The web address is www.wellandpower.net There are 3 of these html elements on the left hand side of the page. TIA Regards Charlie Hi, I am trying to use rounded corners for the top left and right of a div in safari, but i cannot work it out. This is my code: PHP Code: -moz-border-radius: 5px 5px 0px 0px; -webkit-border-radius: 5px 5px 0px 0px; -khtml-border-radius: 5px 5px 0px 0px; border-radius: 5px 5px 0px 0px; the corners are fine in other browsers, but they appear square in safari. If I change this line to: -webkit-border-radius: 5px; then the corners are rounded. But how can I get just the top left and top right corners to be rounded? Any ideas would be great. Thanks Hi All, I am new to this forum and to CSS and Web Development as a whole. I am a notch up from "total n00b". I can't post links so the website is www (dot) authenticimpressions (dot) com I built this site for my wife using Wordpress, some plugins, and some themes I bought. The Galleries all look great in Chrome and Firefox on PC, and in Firefox and Safari on Mac. But in IE7 on PC, I get a 4 or 5px white border on the bottom and the left in each of the galleries. I've played and played with the stylesheets and cannot figure this one out. What other information should I post or provide to get some help? Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it. Hi all. I'm having a problem with the header of my web page. I want it to extend across the entire page but can't seem to get it to do so. When I change the width, the header extends to the right only. the url is spatterblog, can view using firebug the css is: #header { background: #e75c14 url('images/img02.gif') repeat-x center center; } #headerimg { margin: 7px 9px 0; height: 192px; width: 100%; #headerimg .description { font-size: 1.2em; text-align: center; } #header { background-color: #e75c14; margin: 0 0 0 1px; padding: 0; height: 200px; } Hello everybody, For my home page at http://www.nextcraft.com I'm using the following syntax in the HTML: Code: <body> <a name="top"></a> <div align="center"> <div id="container"> <!-- =================================================================== --> <div id="header"> <a href="http://www.nextcraft.com"><img src="media/00_primary/menugraphics/nextcraft_banner.gif" title="Click here for the home page." height="68" width="395" alt="nextcraft logo" align="left" /></a> <div id="search_box"> </div> </div> <!-- =================================================================== --> <div id="col_left"> <ul id="navlist"> </ul> </div> <!-- =================================================================== --> <div id="content"> <!-- =================================================================== --> <div id="subnav"> <ul id="subnav"> </ul> </div> <!-- =================================================================== --> <div id="sidebar"> <div class="box" id="black"> </div> </div> <!-- =================================================================== --> <!-- TEXT AND OTHER CONTENT GOES HERE --> <!-- =================================================================== --> <div id="footer"> </div> <!-- =================================================================== --> </div><!-- END CONTENT DIV --> <!-- =================================================================== --> </div><!--END CONTAINER DIV--> </div><!--END DIV CENTERING--> </body> (On the stylesheet code, the "header" DIV has no positioning defaults, and the "search_box" code has a Code: float:right; attribute. Note two things: 1. If you resize the browser window, the search box and other elements wrap around in a logical way. 2. The logo is a link to the home page, with the "title" attribute used so that a link description pops up on a mouseover. I like that. But... I change the appearance of my site from time to time, by alternating between several stylesheets. This sometimes calls for a different header graphic. Problem: If I put the header graphic in the stylesheet as a background image, the site will appear the same, but then the header's link and title attribute cannot be used, and the search box will now pass right through the header when the browser window is resized. My goal would be to place the header graphic (including the link information) in the style sheet, and still keep the visible "title" attribute and proper wraparound behavior. Any suggestions? Thank you! Hi Guys I am struggling to resolve a small issue i am having. I am using a mac, and am working on a contact form for a website. I am using the latest mac OS and latest versions of all browsers. The following link is fine in firefox, however, in Safari and google chrome, the 'Message' text area has a big gap above it and I do not know how to get rid of this. Here is the code for the form... <form id="form" name="frmQuote" class="contactForm" method="post" action="process.php" onsubmit="return validate_form(this);" > <ul> <li> <label for="name">Name:</label> <input name="name" id="name" type="text" class="required" /> </li> <li> <label for="email">E-mail:</label> <input name="email" id="email" type="text" class="required email" /> </il> <li> <label for="subject">Subject:</label> <input name="subject" id="subject" type="text" class="required" /> </li> <li> <label for="detail">Message:</label> <textarea name="detail" id="detail" rows="6" cols="60" class="required"></textarea> </li> <li> <input type="submit" name="submit" id="submit" value="Submit" tabindex="100" class="submitBtn" /> </li></ul> </form> Here is the css for that page... #content_about { color: #666666; } /*************************************************** CONTACT ***************************************************/ #form { margin: 0px; position: relative; padding-top: 20px; padding-right: 20px; padding-bottom: 20px; padding-left: 15px; float: left; } #form div { width: 510px; position: relative; float: left; padding-bottom: 9px; } #form div label { width: 400px; } #form div label.error { color: #a80000; position: absolute; top: 0px; right: 0px; text-align: right; font-size: 11px; } #form div.message_sent { background-color: #31B8DA; width: 890px; float: left; padding: 10px; margin-bottom: 15px; color: #FFFFFF; } #form input { width: 499px; padding: 8px; font-size: 13px; color: #999999; background-color: #FFFFFF; float: right; border-top-width: 1px; border-right-width: 1px; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-left-width: 1px; border-top-style: solid; border-right-style: solid; border-bottom-style: solid; border-left-style: solid; border-top-color: #C3C3C3; border-right-color: #E8E8E8; border-bottom-color: #E8E8E8; border-left-color: #C3C3C3; } #form input:focus, #form textarea:focus { background-color: #F4F4F4; } #form textarea { width: 500px; padding: 8px; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; background-color: #FFFFFF; color: #aaaaaa; border-top-width: 1px; border-right-width: 1px; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-left-width: 1px; border-top-style: solid; border-right-style: solid; border-bottom-style: solid; border-left-style: solid; border-top-color: #C3C3C3; border-right-color: #E8E8E8; border-bottom-color: #E8E8E8; border-left-color: #C3C3C3; float: right; margin: 0px; } #form .submitBtn { background-color: #31b8da; width: 95px; color: #FFFFFF; border-top-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-bottom-style: none; border-left-style: none; padding: 0px; font-size: 16px; height: 35px; display: block; margin-top: 20px; } #form .submitBtn:hover { background-color: #1F93B4; color: #FFFFFF; } #form .submitBtn:focus { background-color: #4FC1E1; } #form strong { font-size: 24px; color: #FFFFFF; font-weight: normal; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 5px; padding-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-color: #6a6a6a; display: block; } #form .font-11 { font-size: 11px; color: #CCCCCC; display: inline; } #content_about #form li label { margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 35px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; line-height: 30px; } #content_about #form li { padding-top: 10px; padding-right: 15px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; } Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards Jay I'm having two issues with IE on my site. 1. IE is displaying the body background image (bg.jpg) throughout the entire page. 2. IE is pushing the sidebar way down. Neither of these issues exist in Firefox. I think the second issue may have something to do with the first issue. Here is the relevant code. Code: html, body * { padding:0px; margin:0px; } body { background-image:url(images/bg.jpg); background-repeat:repeat-x; background-color:#fb7d21; margin:0 auto; height:100%; } div#container { width:792px; margin:0 auto; background-image:url(images/filler.jpg); background-repeat:repeat-y; } div#header { width:792px; height:109px; background-image:url(images/header.jpg); background-repeat:no-repeat; margin-top:20px; } div#content { float:left; width:570px; padding:0 0 0 10px; margin-top:-40px; } div#sidebar { float:right; width:212px; margin-top:-95px; } div#footer { clear:both; width:792px; height:84px; background-image:url(images/footer.jpg); background-repeat:no-repeat; } You can see the issues on my site here. Any idea what is causing this? Thanks in advance. Background info: - I have validated the page and CSS, no problems there - Site is working properly in Firefox and IE, seems to be a margin issue in Safari -This margin issue is not the common Safari bug with a negative margin being applied to a floated element -I am using Safari in a windows environment, I do not have a Mac The problem: -in Safari the top margin on the content either is either not being applied at all or is being interpreted differently -it may be of note that I was having the same issue with IE, but was able to specify an IE specific style sheet for it, I don't believe this is possible in Safari? I have implemented a fixed header on my site, but certain content is scrolling above the header while other is scrolling behind. I would like it all to scroll behind the fixed div's. WHAT IS THE TYPICAL CSS PROBLEM FOR THIS ISSUE? w w w. jaywayproductions . c o m/portfolio/work_history.html It suppose to look the way it looks in IE. It is a little off in Firefox. I have been try'n several things to solve this particular issue but cannot. It seems as if the bottom and top row stretches and makes the effect I was trying to accomplish look off in FF. You can understand what I'm sayin' when you view both. Does anyone know why it is doing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in Advance Hi there, I used to use tables to format my websites. I want to use css now for formatting my site but I have a small problem... When I am on my Windows XP computer with IE6 My Site looks just fine. But when I turn on my Mac and I open the page in Safari it ****s up a little bit. And of course I want my site viewable to al users with al browsers on any platform. This is some of the code I used: Code: body { background-color: #fff; margin: 100px 0px 0px 0px; } .leftside { width: 500px; float: left; border-right: 1px dashed #999; padding: 0px 0px 0px 100px; } .rightside { width: 150; padding: 10px } this is the url of my testpage: www.headradio.net/template/index.php Just take a look how it looks in safari (or firefox) and how it looks in IE6 Thanks Daan Hi, so far I have my website look the same on IE7, (maybe IE6), FireFox, and Opera. Now there is another browser called Safari for Mac! How can I test my website on Safari if I only have a PC? also should I worry on this!? or if my website works on FireFox then it means it will work on Safari as well? regards, Sim085 I have my webpage coded in HTML 4 and CSS, and everything is valid. It displays perfectly in all browsers, with one exception. In Safari 1.2, the menu background positioning is screwed up. It is supposed to display the b&w image first, then rollover to the color image. Instead, it is displaying the color image, and not repositioning the image so it displays correctly. It works fine in other browsers. any suggestions?? (PS) i'm judging the Safari support by BrowserCam.com, I don't actually have a Mac to test with. And yes, I do need it to work in Safari since this is a class website and we are provided with apple laptops to use. I am making a Mac help site for a friend, and want the site to be compatible with as many browsers as possible. I am aware that IE doesn't follow the rules with css, which is why I have made a plain version of the site as well. Basically, the site is composed of two tables, the top one is the banner with buttons, and the bottom one has text. The background is fixed, as is the top table (so the only thing that moves when you scroll is the table with the text). My problem is that the top table can be centered either for Safari, or Firefox, but I have not found a way to center both of them. EDIT: The site is at www.ihelpnyc.com/dave/index1.html . It will probably change, but it's a good reference to see what I'm doing When I do this, it is centered on Firefox: Code: <style type="text/css"> <!-- body { background-image: url(background.gif); background-repeat: repeat-x; background-attachment:fixed; background-color: #000000; } #toptable { position: fixed; top: 0; height: 140px; bottom: auto; z-index: 2; text-align: center; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; } #encapsule { margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; } #centered { text-align: center; } #centered table { margin: 0 auto; text-align: auto; } #bottable { position: relative; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; top: 140px; z-index:1; } --> </style></head> <body leftmargin="0" topmargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0"> <div align="centered" id="encapsule"> <table width="720" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" id="encase"> <tr> <td><table width="200" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" bordercolor="#2C2C2C" id="toptable"> <tr> <td><table width="720" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" id="Table_01"> <tr> <td colspan="5"><img src="images/index_01.gif" width="360" height="109" alt=""></td> <td colspan="2"><img src="images/index_02.gif" width="360" height="109" alt=""></td> </tr> <tr> <td><img src="images/index_03.gif" width="47" height="31" alt=""></td> <td><a href="index1.html"><img src="images/index_04.gif" alt="" width="102" height="31" border="0"></a></td> <td><a href="about.html"><img src="images/index_05.gif" alt="" width="92" height="31" border="0"></a></td> <td><a href="contact.html"><img src="images/index_06.gif" alt="" width="104" height="31" border="0"></a></td> <td colspan="2"><a href="help.html"><img src="images/index_07.gif" alt="" width="145" height="31" border="0"></a></td> <td><img src="images/index_08.gif" width="230" height="31" alt=""></td> </tr> <tr> <td><img src="images/spacer.gif" width="47" height="1" alt=""></td> <td><img src="images/spacer.gif" width="102" height="1" alt=""></td> <td><img src="images/spacer.gif" width="92" height="1" alt=""></td> <td><img src="images/spacer.gif" width="104" height="1" alt=""></td> <td><img src="images/spacer.gif" width="15" height="1" alt=""></td> <td><img src="images/spacer.gif" width="130" height="1" alt=""></td> <td><img src="images/spacer.gif" width="230" height="1" alt=""></td> </tr> </table></td> </tr> </table></td> </tr> </table> </div> When I do the following, it centers it on Safari: Code: <style type="text/css"> <!-- body { background-image: url(background.gif); background-repeat: repeat-x; background-attachment:fixed; background-color: #000000; } #toptable { position: fixed; top: 0; height: 140px; bottom: auto; z-index: 2; } #encase { position: relative; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; } #bottable { position: relative; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; top: 140px; z-index:1; } --> </style></head> <body leftmargin="0" topmargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0"> <table width="720" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" id="encase"> <tr> <td><table width="200" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" bordercolor="#2C2C2C" id="toptable"> <tr> <td><table width="720" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" id="Table_01"> <tr> <td colspan="5"><img src="images/index_01.gif" width="360" height="109" alt=""></td> <td colspan="2"><img src="images/index_02.gif" width="360" height="109" alt=""></td> </tr> <tr> <td><img src="images/index_03.gif" width="47" height="31" alt=""></td> <td><a href="index1.html"><img src="images/index_04.gif" alt="" width="102" height="31" border="0"></a></td> <td><a href="about.html"><img src="images/index_05.gif" alt="" width="92" height="31" border="0"></a></td> <td><a href="contact.html"><img src="images/index_06.gif" alt="" width="104" height="31" border="0"></a></td> <td colspan="2"><a href="help.html"><img src="images/index_07.gif" alt="" width="145" height="31" border="0"></a></td> <td><img src="images/index_08.gif" width="230" height="31" alt=""></td> </tr> <tr> <td><img src="images/spacer.gif" width="47" height="1" alt=""></td> <td><img src="images/spacer.gif" width="102" height="1" alt=""></td> <td><img src="images/spacer.gif" width="92" height="1" alt=""></td> <td><img src="images/spacer.gif" width="104" height="1" alt=""></td> <td><img src="images/spacer.gif" width="15" height="1" alt=""></td> <td><img src="images/spacer.gif" width="130" height="1" alt=""></td> <td><img src="images/spacer.gif" width="230" height="1" alt=""></td> </tr> </table></td> </tr> </table></td> </tr> </table> Any help is appreciated, as I am totally stuck. I have been using http://theodorakis.net/tablecentertest.html to see which works on both Firefox and Safari, but none of them work for both. Thanks! EDIT: The site is at www.ihelpnyc.com/dave/index1.html . It will probably change, but it's a good reference to see what I'm doing I cannot see a margin when I test this page in safari from dreamweaver. Basically I am trying for a centered container which will hold all the content and have some space from the top margin and be centered. With the CSS I have the container shows up with a margin when I test it in the firefox browser and even when using live view, but not in Safari. The latest version of Safari. What do I need to change to get the top margin to show correctly in Safari? Is something overriding something else? Code @charset "UTF-8"; /* CSS Document */ body { color: #000000; /*This sets all text to Black*/ /*background-color: #FFFFFF; /*This sets the bacground to white*/ margin: 100px auto; /*This sets the margin to zero*/ padding:0; font-size:12px; font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align:center; } p { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; color: #000000; } h1 { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; color: #000099; } h2 { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; color: #000099; } h3 { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; color: #000099; } .redtext { color: #FF0000; } a { color: #009900; } a:link { color: #000099; text-decoration: underline; } a:visited { color: #666666; text-decoration: none; } a:hover { text-decoration: none; background-color: #CCCCCC; } a:active { text-decoration: none; } .menu { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; color: #000000; } .menu a:link { color: #336600; text-decoration: none; } .menu a:visited { color: #666666; text-decoration: none; } .menu a:hover { color: #990000; text-decoration: none; } .menu a:active { color: #666666; text-decoration: none; } div#container { width: 960px; height:760; /*margin-left:0 auto; /* the auto value on the sides, coupled with the width, centers the layout */ } div#outer { margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; width: 960px; } div#header { position:relative; text-align: center; width: auto; } div#nav { width: auto; padding: 10px; margin-top: 1px; position:relative; } div#main { position:relative; width: auto; } div#footer { position:relative; width:auto; padding: 15px; margin: 0px; }#nav { position: relative; padding:20px; width: auto; } |
