CSS - Help Design Navigation Bar Drop Down With Css And Fireworks
Can someone point me to a tutorial for designing a navigation bar. I liked the current navigation bar at www.sonystyle.com . I have the image rollover scripts for the menu, but need to know how to design the graphics. I know that they use some transparent gifs as well, but need to learn how the image rollovers are being created in either fireworks or photoshop. If someone knows a tutorial for similar menu bar design then please let me know.
Thanks Similar TutorialsHi I have used this drop down navigation as the main navigation on my website, it drops down perfectly in firefox but won't drop down in IE??? Is there something I am missing or could add to make it work?? My sites below and css byronyoga(dot)com byronyoga(dot)com(slash)templates(slash)css(slash)style.css (the style is down the bottom of the css) Thanks. I dont understand what I am missing, the menu is suppose to be a drop down menu (and suppose to be horizontal, but i havent got that far yet) but its not dropping, its displaying everything? I would appreciate any help on making it work correctly, thanks much! -Sean nav_style.css file: Code: body { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; } #nav { width: 200px; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Sans-serif; } #nav ul { list-style: none; margin: 0; padding: 0; } #nav li { border-bottom: 1px solid #ed9f9f; } #nav li a:link, #nav li a:visited { display: block; padding: 5px 5px 5px 0.5em; border-left: 12px solid #711515; border-right: 1px solid #711515; background-color: #b51031; color: #ffffff; text-decoration: none; } #nav li a:hover { background-color: #711515; color: #ffffff; } #nav ul ul { margin-left; 12px; } #nav ul ul li { border-bottom: 1px solid #711515; color: #ffffff; } #nav ul ul a:link, #nav ul ul a:visited { background-color: #ed9f9f; color: #711515; } #nav ul ul a:hover { background-color: #711515; color: #ffffff; } and here is the head_nav.php file: Code: <?php echo "<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"iso-8859-1\"?".">"; ?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>?</title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css_inc/nav_style.css" /> </head> <body> <div id="nav"> <ul> <li><a href="#">Services</a> <ul> <li><a href="#">Cinematography</a></li> <li><a href="#">Photography</a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="#">Video</a> <ul> <li><a href="#">Demo Reel</a></li> <li><a href="#">Music Video</a></li> <li><a href="#">Commercial</a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="#">Photo Gallery</a></li> <li><a href="#">About Valliant</a> <ul> <li><a href="#">Biography</a></li> <li><a href="#">Resume</a></li> <li><a href="#">Contact</a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="#">Links</a></li> <li><a href="#">Home</a></li> </ul> </div> </body> </html> I'm trying to get my horizontal navigation to work for a PTA page I'm creating. New to CSS and I think I've got a bit of the gist of it... but I'm really struggling with this. I've mostly "found" the coding I needed and then modified it to suit my needs. As a designer, though, I still want it to look the way I want it to and I'm not quite able to accomplish that. Basically, I would like a drop down menu added to the navigation I've created here - lwptsa . org/newsite/ This is the solution I found - lwptsa . org/newsite/dropdown . html But I am unable to get the dark blue to continue to the end of the container. ** ACK, not allowed to post images. You can find the image I'm referring to he lwptsa . org/newsite/images/navigation . jpg I'd like to fix the left margin spacing and it's coloring (A), making the lines between the buttons/blocks white (B) and having the blue flush with the white containers above and below (A). I'd also like to keep the top lines between the drop-down menu (C) but remove it from the main menu/navigation (B). Hopefully this makes sense. My style sheets a No drop-down menu, but working spacing and white separating lines (id - navigation): lwptsa . org/newsite/ Code: body { margin: 20px; padding: 0; font: 100%/1.3 arial; font-size: medium; I'm trying to redesign the look and information of the PTA's website. a. look at my site. it is very boxy and almost TOO structured. is there a design trick i can use to mix it up a little? specific examples would be greatly appreciated. Hi All, I am building a site that has the following structure for the navigation; Code: <div id="navigation"> <ul id="navlist"> <li class="home"><a href="../index.asp" title="home"><span>home</span></a></li> <li class="aboutus"><a href="../aboutus.htm" title="aboout us"><span>about us</span></a></li> <li class="ourservices"><a href="../ourservices.htm" title="our services"><span>our services</span></a> <ul> <li class="internationalmail"><a href="ourservices_internationalmail.htm" title="international mail"><span>international mail</span></a></li> <li class="worldwidecourier"><a href="ourservices_worldwidecourier.htm" title="worldwide courier"><span>worldwide courier</span></a></li> <li class="worldwidefreight"><a href="ourservices_worldwidefreight.htm" title="worldwide freight"><span>worldwide freight</span></a></li> <li class="storage"><a href="ourservices_storage.htm" title="storage"><span>storage</span></a></li> <li class="publishingservices"><a href="ourservices_publishingservices.htm" title="publishing services"><span>publishing services</span></a></li> </ul> </li> <li class="requestquote"><a href="../requestquote.htm" title="request a quote"><span>request a quote</span></a></li> <li class="contactus"><a href="../contactus.htm" title="contact us"><span>contact us</span></a></li> </ul> </div> The main LI is horizontal, and the containing UL, LI is a vertical dropdown. The seperate CSS file does the image replacements on the <a> and hides the text within the <span>, usual stuff. The nav works great, with the graphic rollovers etc. The rollover, again, standard way of doing it, background: url(<FILE>) no-repeat top left; and the a:hover rollover is a background: bottom left;. Edit: Just noticed that I can't link to the full site that I have uploaded for preview. What I want to do, is when the user roll's over any of the items within the sub-navigation, it keeps the main Services navigation link rolled over also. The only way I could think of doing this, and relatively simply, would be to use JavaScript, but wanted to explore any other CSS ways of doing this. For example, is it possible to change a style of another class, from another? Your help would be much appreciated! Hi sorry if this is the wrong place for this thread, I have been given a project to take a fully flash website and convert it into xhtml and css. There are roughly 30 pages or so but Im am really unsure of how much I should be asking as a fixed price for the work. What does everyone else usually do? It looks alright in IE, but looks really messed up in Mozilla, Firefox and Netscape. I wanted vertical UL tabs down the left side. http://www.members.shaw.ca/welcomehere/test.htm please help. I'm designing a company website. I'm relatively new to CSS and I'm having trouble creating what seems to me a very simple design:
body background: fixed full page image
banner: fixed, 100 pixels high, full-width, transparent background
nav bar: fixed, 200 px wide, auto-height, opaque nav icons, semi-transparent tiled image background
content box: scrolling, auto height, auto width, opaque text, semi-transparent tiled image background
footer: fixed, 30 px high, full width, transparent background
mockup: Here is as far as I could get in the actual design: web page attemp Hey guys , I am looking to convert my css3 vertical nav bar , from the order of "DROP DOWN" to "DROP UP" . I originally had it so it was reading the javascript but after adjusting it quite a bit, it spans the whole parent nav bar and is completely in css. I don't mind that it's in css but I want visitors to be able to see it in ie because ie own's a good 75% of the browser population. Here is my site, i still have the javascript file in there but it doesn't do anything anymore. Any clues on how to get it so it goes straight down and is viewable in ie? Site I am new to this forum and need some help! I am creating a page and the sidebar has links. I have a graphic link that I DO NOT want highlighted. I have tried everything I can think of, but I don't think I am able to apply the link styling as an inline style, or am I wrong. Any help would be appreciated! http://annesweb.com/abramoff/ On the right side of this page the border is messed up but, in the css the mathematics are all correct. I dont know whats wrong??? Have a look at the output of this code he Code: <html> <head> <title>Template</title> <style type="text/css"> <!-- #header { border-top: #000000 thin solid; border-left: #000000 thin solid; border-right: #000000 thin solid; position:absolute; left:5%; top:30px; width:90%; height:178px; } #nav { border-left: #000000 thin solid; border-bottom: #000000 thin solid; position:absolute; left:5%; top:208px; width:18%; height:512px; } #content { border-right: #000000 thin solid; border-bottom: #000000 thin solid; position:absolute; left:23%; top:208px; width:72%; height:512px; } --> </style> </head> <body> <div id='header'> </div> <div id='nav'> </div> <div id='content'> </div> </body> </html> Whats wrong??? Daniel Hi everyone I'm very new to CSS and I'm having some trouble getting a layout to work as I want it to. I have attached the file as a .txt as HTML files are not allowed. Just change the extension to .html. The problem, in Opera, none at all. Firefox doesn't display it properly. IE does to an extent but it has horizontal scrolling. Being new to CSS, I have absolutely no idea what needs changing. If anyone could tell me where I'm going wrong, preferably with an explanation why it has gone wrong, it'd be much appreciated. Thanks very much Help? I have designed a look for one of my buddies companies. However, it is quite complicated. I have attached the .GIF file for you to reference. The design needs to be cross-browser friendly. The navigation is going to be dynamically built using a backend application built in PHP. The nav_links will be text not images, as well as the text next to the "did you know" items. I imagine that the placement of some of the "did you know" items can be arranged to ease the slicing process. Also, the left main image (the guy) needs to be dynamic in that it rotates through images on refresh or a revisit (probably some javascript). On top of all that, I need the "featured" or "did you know" items i.e. the round images and text to dynamically change also. These will be likes into specific sections of the site. My major concern is getting the main header pieced together correctly while meeting cross-browser compatibility. I have some CSS knowledge but as i mentioned the design is quite advanced. Any ideas on how to correctly structure it to work? TIA BA Well, many of you have seen me floundering around this CSS stuff. I developed 2 demos for a team of people to review and damn if they didn't want functionality combined into one site... I have words that discribe my reaction!!.. Anyway I'm building this site using a new 3 column example I found at Skidoo or something like that. Seems to be working well so far with my columns staying the same height. As I go I'm trying to maintain the functionality in both IE and FF and frankly having a bit of trouble. Seems that the code and changes looks fine in IE but there are 3 primary areas I cannot seem to fix in FF. *The white line between 'the header' and 'the horizontal nav' blocks. *The background color for the left and right content areas is not coming through. *And in the Left content area there are a lot of links with the UL set to none and a reduced margin for alignment purposes. In FF they are not over to the Left like I'd like If you look at this example in IE it is as I'd like it to appear. In FF the above are an issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated even if its a link to read this..... sort of thing. Thanks for the help. The site The CSS Also, em is fairly new to me in this style, it seems to be very good especially when adjusting the font size. Is this the better to use standard than px? Does anyone know where I can find a chart comparing the two? I have been using px for sometime and have to fiddle with em to make it all work. Thanks again for any assistance. http://www.hicksdesign.co.uk/ Please notice on the right hand side the border that streams down the bottom, I've tried to analyze his css but it just doesn't seem to make exact sense. The picture actually stays the same regardless of the user's resolution and this is an optimal solution to fight the screen rez blues. Any thoughts? I was told in the html forum that I should design my layout with CSS instead of tables... I'm using FireworksMX and Dreamweaver MX. Any help figuring out how to do that with the layout on this page would be great - I don't know very much about CSS. I know dreamweaver makes new ones every time I type, and it keeps changing my text when I don't want it to. I understand that you can make ones for text, html tags, and other more complicated stuff that I don't understand - is it possible for me to figure this out without spending a month studying it? Here's the non-css layout page http://www.thecurrencyofthefuture.com OK - this may sound a bit cheeky but I have been looking everywhere for a table-less design which will work in the 3 major browsers (Opera, Firefox, IE) I am looking for a 2 column layout (left column about 130 px wide) and with a header and footer - I can't find anything that works for me in all browers (I know M$ haven't made IE fully compatible ) but if anyone knows where I can get this popular and simple structure I would be most grateful, thanks, j Hey everyone, I'm new to CSS, but now web design. I could find a way to build this design in tables, but thought I might try the CSS thing. I've been reading a bunch and have a general plan, but any advice on where my plan could be improved or if I should stick with tables would be great. hutec-inc. com/personal/css.gif Hi, I have a table, which contains div. The Div contains "ul" and "li" elements. Currently my page looks awkward without any css designs. Could somebody help me with some css designs, so that page looks good. Thank you. |
