CSS - Css: Vertical Align Middle Wonkiness
hmmm, i can't make this work...the text goes to the top, not the middle...
#mrtop { height: 33px; width: auto; vertical-align: middle; } both "title" and "subtitle" are just text attributes, nothing more... <div id="mrtop"><span class="title"><? echo $a ?></span> <span class="subtitle"><? echo $q ?></span></div> i would use padding at the top and bottom but i'm concerned about text zooming...if people were to use text zoom and it needed more space for the "mrtop" div it would screw up some other stuff on the page (so i need to make "middle" work if it's possible)... thanks for any advice...v Similar TutorialsI've got an image that is 75px high. Right beside it, I have a H1. I want to vertically align the H1 in the middle of the image. Vertical align doesn't work, and for some reason, setting the line height to the height of the image doesn't work either. Thanks for taking the time to read my question. I have an image that I want to place in the middle of a contaier. I have <center></center> around the <img /> tag, but I can't get it to center vertically with the css below. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Brad CSS: Code: img.contentimg { vertical-align: middle; } HTML: Code: <div class="textbox1"><center><img class="contentimg" src="images/house1.jpg" /></center></div> Hi there, I'm trying to display paragraph with a table embedded in there inline. I hope the table can behave like a big letter in the paragraph, with the line aligned in the center of the table. For example, if I want to make "1/2" to a vertical "1 <hr/> 2", I would put it in a table and change the "display" property as follows: Code: <p> This is a long paragraph. This is a long paragraph. This is a long paragraph. This is a long paragraph. This is a long paragraph. This is a long paragraph. I HAVE <table style="display:inline;vertical-align:middle"> <tr> <td> 1 <hr /> 2 </td> </tr> </table> PIZZA. This is a long paragraph. This is a long paragraph. This is a long paragraph. This is a long paragraph. This works perfectly for me on IE, but on Firefox only the "inline" property works, and the "vertical-align" property doesn't (i.e., the table and the line text are aligned at the bottom still). Did I do something wrong? Or is this a Firefox bug? Thanks I have an image and to the right of it I have text. I want the text to be aligned veritcally to the middle of the image. I can do the following and it works: Code: .icon {vertical-align: middle;} <a href="index.php"><img src="images/icon.png" class="icon" border="0" /></a> Header Goes Here However, if I wrap H1 tags around "Header Goes Here" the text drops below the image. Any ideas on how to use header tags and have it aligned? I know I could make the icon as a background with H1 but I want it to be clickable. Is there any way to make it so the H1 Hi, Does anyone know how to veritcally align text using CSS? like <tr valign='middle'> when using tables. My page is on: http://www.3003online.com/demos/ecoceylon/v2/ You can see a difference in the "Home - About Us - Products - Contact Us" links when viewing from IE and Mozilla Firefox. Basically, I would like the text to be centered vertically in the bar... but CSS by default puts it on top. I tried adding padding, which helped in IE... but Firefox still shows the links a bit higher than they should be.,... any ideas how to fix this? Also, a different problem in case anyone knows how to fix it... you can see a small brown bar on the top bar. It is 50px in height. But I have no idea how to make its width as wide as the remainder of the page (this would change with different resolutions). The main content of the page is 760px wide. I would like a brown box next to that, which is 50px in height and the remainder width. Any ideas? "width: auto;" doesn't work unfortunately [ this is a follow up to my previous thread http://forums.devshed.com/showthread.php?t=270438 Any help would be greatly appreciated. However is there a way to do it using CSS? What I'm wanting is for the links to be in the middle of the div vertically. Currently it's at the top. How do I get around this? I thought something like the following would work but it doesn't. <div style="line-height: 60px; vertical-align: middle;"> <span style="line-height: normal;">line1<br />line 2</span></div> Hi everyone! i have this mockup in fireworks for my personal site.. problem is... i cant put it together the way i like it using CSS here is my mockup and the slices ive made... http://www[dot]phpugph[dot]com/talk/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=8005.0;attach=1720;image im sorry for the link... i cant seem to post a proper one do u guys know how i should go about it? the middle column should be fixed width but the right and left column should be fluid thanx ok. Ive been trying to use CSS to style my page instead of tables. but I cant get stuff to line up right. basically I have a div spanning the whole width of a css box. inside that div I have 3 sections, one for left-aligned text, one for center aligned text and one for right aligned text. what I want is to display on the far left a left arrow image (for use as a button) and the word 'Previous'. then in the middle of the div, center aligned, I want to display the words 'select a different draw' and on the right hand side, right aligned I want the word 'Next' followed by my right arrow. EASY PEASY I thought. Well it has taken me an hour to realise that I have to set my parent element to position: relative for the left middle and right elements to use absolute without going to the very top of the page. so at least I now have them along in a line. What I have found is that the the text on the left and right is vertically aligned to the BOTTOM edge of the image and the text in the middle has been vertically aligned to the TOP of the image despite all 4 css classes being defined as vertical-align: middle; please tell me where I am going wrong, I'm loosing my marbles here! --html: Code: <div id="width-100"> <div id="third-left"> <img src="images/arrowleft.png" alt="foo"/> Previous </div> <div id="third-middle"> Select a different draw </div> <div id="third-right"> Next <img src="images/arrowright.png" alt="foo"/> </div> </div> --css: Code: #third-left { width: 30%; text-align: left; vertical-align: middle; } #third-middle { position: absolute; top: 0px; margin: 0 35% 0 35%; width: 30%; vertical-align: middle; text-align: center; } #third-right { position: absolute; top: 0px; right: 0px; width: 30%; text-align: right; vertical-align: middle; } #width-100 { width: 100%; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; background: white; } any thoughts? Thanks, Ben Hey, Here is an example of code for one of my links where I attempted to align the link "Entry Form" to the middle of the image, what am I doing wrong? Code: <p class="NavigationOption" id="Nav_Entry" line-height=32px text-align=middle><img src="../links/entryform.jpg" border=0></img> <a class="NavigationLink" id="NavLink_Entry" href="<?= ptpr; ?>members/index.php"><font color= #555555>Entry Form</a></p> Hi, I am trying to use the vertical-align property to make some text appear in the middle of a div (set float:left). However it is not working. Following is some sample code I have done for testing: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html> <head> <title>ccc</title> <style> div{ width:16.7em; height:6.8em; border:1px solid black; vertical-align:middle; float:left; } </style> </head> <body> <div>hello</div> </body> </html> Is this possible? Thanks and Regards, Sim085 What I'm trying to do... I have some navigation links, a few pictures, and someone's name on the left hand side of the page. I want everything except for the name to be at the top.... the name is to be at the bottom. Is there a specific way to accomplish this? The content area will generally extend as high as 600 or so px, so would like the name to appear at the very bottom lined up with the content box. Thanks. Not sure exactly what code you need to see, but here's the left hand column: CSS: Code: body {width:770px; height:100%; } .nav_links {vertical-align:top; width:150px; } .nav_links a{display:block; border-top:1px solid black; text-decoration:none;} HTML: Code: <!-- Left Nav Menu --> <div class="nav_links"> Link 1 Link 2 Link 3 Link 4 Link 5 </div> <!-- End Left Nav Menu --> <!-- Misc. Pictures (Left Column)--> <div> <div style="float:right;"> <img src="images/left_pic_1.jpg" alt="Pic1" style="width:50px; margin-bottom:10px;" /><br /> <img src="images/left_pic_2.jpg" alt="Pic2" style="width:50px;" /> </div> </div> <div style="clear:both;"> <div style="float:right;"> <img src="images/left_pic_3.jpg" alt="Pic3" style=" width:50px; margin-bottom:10px;" /><br /> <img src="images/left_pic_4.jpg" alt="Pic4" style="width:50px;" /> </div> </div> <!-- End Misc. Pictures (Left Column) --> <!-- Name --> <div class="name" style="vertical-align:bottom;"> First M. Last </div> <!-- End Name --> Is not working for me, or I'm not using it right. Here is my problem: http://www.kingtoad.net/development/kingtoad.net/ I want the "navigation" to align to the top even with the "content". I can't seem to get it up there though. Any suggestions would be nice. Hello to all of you, I am doing my first steps in respect to CSS programming and wonder if I can get some hint here. I have created a table, with two different line colors, and a changing line background color with hover. Basically everything works as expected - just the vertical-align command does not respond at all. Am I doing something wrong? What could be the reason, and how can I continue investigating? I am using the CSS stylesheet, in connection with a Joomla 1.5 CMS. Please see the code below: Code: table.general { text-align: left; vertical-align: top; width: 100%; border-collapse: collapse; } table.general th { text-align: center; font-size: 15px; color: white; font-style:bold; height: 30px; background-color:#95B3D7; border: 3px solid #FFFFFF; } table.general tr.row1 { background-color: #f1f1f1; } table.general tr.row2 { background-color: #e0e0e0; } table.general tr.row1:hover { background-color: #CCCCCC; } table.general tr.row2:hover { background-color: #CCCCCC; } table.general td { border: 3px solid #FFFFFF; padding: 4px; } The classes are being used in the following form: Code: <table style="width: 320px;" class="general"> <col span="4" width="80"></col> <tbody> <tr> <th>head A</th> <th>head B</th> <th>head C</th> <th>Alface</th> </tr> <tr class="row1"> <td>Topic A</td> <td>65</td> <td>215</td> <td>35</td> </tr> <tr class="row2"> <td>Topic B</td> <td>2</td> <td>2,3</td> <td>1,2</td> </tr> <tr class="row1"> <td>Topic C</td> <td>68</td> <td>55</td> <td>13</td> </tr> <tr class="row2"> <td>Topic D</td> <td>44</td> <td>50</td> <td>33</td> </tr> <tr class="row1"> <td>etc.</td> <td>494</td> <td>611</td> <td>238</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> Thank you in advance for your kindness! for example if there is a container div which holds an inner div, if i want the content of the inner div to appear exactly at the bottom edge of the inner div i have used the following code, #outer{ position: relative; float: left; width: 900px; height: 200px; } #outer .inner{ position: relative; float: left; width: 500px; height: 200px; vertical-align: bottom; } however the content of the inner div is starting at its default location which is top left of the inner div instead of using margin-top or padding-top, or positioning methods for the inner div to position the content at the bottom edge can the vertical-align: bottom; be used as this will be very accurate placed at the bottom edge even if the content increases the content will always appear at the bottom edge, unlike other methods where the margin-top, padding-top, and positioning, these values will have to be changed whenever content increases or decreases. please advice. thanks. |
