CSS - Text-align Doesnt Work....
is text align restricted to div tags only? and/or block level elements?
and if so, how could i get the program names (ICQ, MSN, Yahoo!) to text-align:left..... and the contact info to align right.... do i HAVE to use a float for this? http://defunctgames.com/contactinfo.htm Similar TutorialsHi, The text in my navigation bar is slightly off-centre, even though I have applied the text-align:centre property in my style sheet. Is there anything obvious that would be throwing it off? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Basically I need to know how to center two divs on a page which themselves have float:left attribute. When I set text-align:center on the body a couple of other divs aligned perfectly so I did not have to worry about different res's. But I need these two divs (leftnav and content) next to each other and acheived this by setting the float:left attribute. The CSS code is below, I hope you can help, i have tried but these two divs in one outer div (without any float set) but didn't work. Code: body { font-family: "Lucida Sans"; font-size: 12px; margin: 0px 0px 10px; border-top: 0px none #000000; border-right: 0px none #000000; border-bottom: 5px none #000000; border-left: 0px none #000000; scrollbar-arrow-color: #D20000; scrollbar-3dlight-color: #4F4F82; scrollbar-darkshadow-color: #4F4F82; scrollbar-face-color: #f4f4f0; scrollbar-highlight-color: #FFFFFF; scrollbar-shadow-color: #d0d0d0; scrollbar-track-color: #ffffff; text-align: center; display: block; } .leftnav { float: left; color: #000000; font-size: 12px; font-family: "Trebuchet MS"; border-top: 1px solid #000000; border-right: 1px none #000000; border-bottom: 1px none #000000; border-left: 1px none #000000; padding: 0px; white-space: nowrap; width: 220px; margin: 10px 0px 0px 10px; clear: both; text-align: left; } .content { background-color: #FFFFFF; border-top-width: 1px; border-right-width: 1px; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-left-width: 1px; border-top-style: solid; border-right-style: solid; border-bottom-style: solid; border-left-style: solid; border-top-color: #000000; border-right-color: #000000; border-bottom-color: #000000; border-left-color: #000000; float: left; white-space: normal; margin-top: 10px; margin-left: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; font-family: "Trebuchet MS"; font-size: 13px; padding-right: 10px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 10px; width: 1000px; margin-right: 0%; list-style-type: none; text-align: left; } Thanks very much. My CSS doesnt work in firefox. But the site looks perfect in ie; does anyone know why this could happen. Thanks. I use font-family: etc...... color and bgcolor. Thanks. i want to make a word Stretch across a givin width... when ever i set it to expanded, wider, or any of the others... nothing happens to the text.. does anyonw know how this works? Hey guys, When i apply a stylesheet to this page. http://jessup.oraclestudio.com.au/i...p?page=coporate the link on the left hand side 'Forensic Accounting' doesnt appear to work in IE but work fine with no style sheet. By not work i mean it gets styled but doesnt function as a link. any ideas ??? Code: a:link { color: #333333; font-size: 11px; } a:hover { color: #333333; font-size: 11px; } a:visited { color: #333333; font-size: 11px; } ok so I have a menu done via CSS and initially I set up a left border on it so it shows up like this: | menu 1 | menu 2 | menu 3 Now with the help of JQuery I am trying to get rid of the | on the menu 1.. Jquery is applying the class to the correct a selector but the border is not being removed? if I change the css to "border: 1px solid black" it applies the border to the whole of menu 1 but the left border still stays WHITE? the css class is: .removeBorder { border:0; } the menu CSS is: Code: ul.navigation-1 li a, ul.navigation-1 li a:link, ul.navigation-1 li a:visited { padding:4px 10px; display:block;text-decoration:none; border-left:1px solid #ffffff;color:#ffffff; width:100%; height:13px; } If i remove the border-left attribute from here, the border goes away.. and via Jquery I am targetting the A.. so what is the problem? Just a FYI: html code: Code: <div id="left-menu"> <ul class="navigation-1"> <li><a class="removeBorder" href="">Products</a><ul class="navigation-2"><li><a href="">A-Z List</a></li><li><a href=""> I have added a percentage padding to some cells of my website (I'm really obliged to use tables and cells for that part of my website, so please do not suggest replacing the cells to DIVs as a solution). For some odd reason, the percentage padding shows just fine with Opera or Internet Explorer, but does not work at all in Firefox. Here is my CSS (and in dark red bold, the percentage padding concerned): Quote: html, body { margin: 0px; padding: 0px; background-color: #ffffff; font-family: verdana, tahoma, serif; font-size: 11px; color: #000000; } a:link, a:visited { text-decoration: none; color: #ff0000; } a:active, a:hover { text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; } form { margin: 0px; } img { border: 0px; } table { border-collapse: collapse; } #top { background: url(../images/top.jpg); height: 100px; } #bar { background: url(../images/bar.jpg); font-weight: bold; color: #ffffff; height: 26px; width: 100%; } #bar1 { position: absolute; top: 100px; left: 0px; background: url(../images/bar1.jpg); height: 26px; width: 4px; } #bar2 { position: absolute; top: 100px; right: 0px; background: url(../images/bar2.jpg); height: 26px; width: 4px; } .bar4 { font-family: verdana, tahoma, serif; font-weight: normal; font-size: 10px; width: 200px; } .bar5 { font-family: verdana, tahoma, serif; font-weight: normal; font-size: 10px; height: 18px; } a.nav:link, a.nav:visited { text-decoration: none; color: #ffffff; } a.nav:active, a.nav:hover { text-decoration: underline; color: #ffffff; } img.top { height: 100px; width: 395px; } td.bar1 { padding-left: 6%; } td.bar2 { padding-right: 6%; } td.bar3 { padding-left: 1.4%; } And here is the HTML (in bold again the place concerned): Quote: <?$page='';?><?include'body/head.txt';?> <div id="top"> <img src="images/top1.jpg" class="top" alt=""/></div><div id="bar1"></div><div id="bar2"></div> <table id="bar"> <tr> <td class="bar1"> <a href="index.php" class="nav">Index</a> | <a href="forums.php" class="nav">Forums</a> </td><td align="right" class="bar2"><form method="get" action="http://www.google.com/custom"> <table> <tr> <td><input type="hidden" name="domains" value="xander6669.com"/></td> <td><input type="radio" name="sitesearch" value="" checked="checked"/></td><td>Le Web</td> <td class="bar3"><input type="radio" name="sitesearch" value="xander6669.com"/></td><td>A Labrie.com</td> <td class="bar3"><input type="text" class="bar4" name="q" maxlength="200"/></td> <td class="bar3"><input type="submit" class="bar5" value="Rechercher"/></td> </tr> </table> </form></td> </tr> </table> </body></html> So, anyone knows what the problem is? If you want to view how this thing looks like in Opera/IE/Firefox, just go the http://xander6669.com/. Thanks for any help. http://www.lockheed-martin.co.uk/css/full_layout_test.html ok if you go there, you will see a text resize functionality, if you decrease the browser size, this text will fall out of the border.. any way to fix that? also I was trying to align the menu to middle but margin:auto isnt working like it did for the body? finally I want to style forms without using floats or br but they are not playing ball.. (well the code I have, I think is poor but it works for them but not for submit button which I would like to be on its own) Code: form { width:30%; } fieldset, input { color:green; border:1px solid green; } legend { margin-left:0.5em; } label{ white-space:pre; margin:0 1em 0em 1em; } input { width:50%; margin-bottom:1em; } input[type="submit"] { padding:2px; margin-left:1em; width:auto; } form: Code: <form action="" method="post"> <fieldset> <legend>Example of a form</legend> <label>First Name</label> <input type="text" name="firstName" size="10"/> <label>Last Name</label> <input type="text" name="lastName" size="10"/> <label>Some options</label> <input type="checkbox" name=""/> Some <input type="checkbox" name=""/> other <input type="submit" name="submit" value="submit"/> </form> PS> if you go to the link and view source, you will see that I have used very few ids and instead used CSS selectors.. any comment on code would also be appreciated.. The reason for this is mainly for me to learn these selectors & work with them.. and this is the reason I have not used float property.. which I am amazed that you could replicate using overflow:hidden and top & left to align elements.. Hi there, ahhhh I have just decided to start using Firefox and now am rreworking my site. All new set up issues to try and fix and i don't even know where to start. Here is my site: www.kohlrbaby.com The issues: 1) nav bars are no longer positioned correctly vertically, nor can I get the text to center in FF 2) the white box extends longer then it should in FF vs IE 3) the text is extending off the white box in the catalogue area in FF please please offer me some css insight here is my .css code: BODY { PADDING-RIGHT: 0px; top: -26px; } OK I have a layer that is described here : div#footer { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height:14; background-color: #EED; font: 10px Verdana, sans-serif;} In this layer I wish to have some text in the left of the bar and at the far right (align-right) some text also ... how would i achieve this ??? -Thanks- I have both Chinese characters and English characters in one paragraph, but they don't align to the bottom with the English characters appearing like . I have used 'vertical-align' to align the text, but not successful. Pls help. I have the following CSS: Code: span.title { {color:#c38ec7;text-decoration: underline;font-family: forte;font-variant:small-caps;font-weight:bold;font-size:165%} } ... it works fine but when I try and put 'text-align:center;' that attribute does not seem to work. Is there any way of doing this??? Thanks I'm creating a dynamic calendar and I can't get the numbers in the cells of my calendar table to align top-right! Here is my unformatted table... Code: <tr height="75"> <td><div align="right">12</div></td> <td><div style="vertical-align:top; text-align:right">13</div></td> <td>14</td> <td>15</td> <td>16</td> <td>17</td> <td>18</td> </tr> I want the numbers to be aligned top right, but if I put other data in there(currently there is none, but there will be), I'd like it to be aligned left. I tried using the vertical-align property in a div tag, but that didn't do anything... I can get it to align right with a div tag... sorry if it's such a stupid quesiton... Also, a side note... I thought that span allows you to align text as well using the style property, but that doesn't work at all (not even just to the right) OK, I have a few links stacked vertically and I'm trying to get them to align to the right. You can see the links here Please look at the sub navigation to the left of the big image. My CSS looks like this: Code: a.subnav{ font-family:arial,helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:11pt; color:#FFFFFF; line-height:24px; text-decoration:none; text-align:right; } what am I doing wrong? How can I get the text to align to the right? - thanks How do I align the text in my navbar vertically? I'm trying to do this. edit.... I can't post the link by adding vertical-align:middle; to my navbar tag and its not working. Do you see where i'm going wrong? Hi all if you look here -> http://www.prxa.info/gol2/community.php to the right where it has status updates i wish the update itself to align to the top of the avatar images to the left of it? currently i have the following CSS Code: ul#key { list-style-type: none; padding: 10px; } ul#key li { display: inline; } however, some of the list items are small 50x50 images accompanied by text but the text is getting aligned to the bottom of the image rather than half way up. Ive tried using text-align: middle but that doesnt work? |
