CSS - Left-aligned Text, Centered In A Div?
hi, i'm wondering whether anyone here knows something that i don't about this...
here's some code: Code: <div style="position:absolute; left:30px; top:90px; width:380px; height:80px; border: 3px double #000000; padding:10px; padding-top:5px; line-height:150%"> <table width="380" height="80" border=0 cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0> <tr> <td valign="middle"> <div align="center" style="width:380px;"> <span style="font-size:11px; text-align:left;"> aligned to the left.<BR> but is it centered?<BR> i think not.<BR> </span> </div> </td> </tr> </table> </div> i'm able to achieve vertically centered text in the table cell, and i can center it or align it to the left, but so far in my experimenting i haven't found a way to have text that is aligned to the left, centered in the div. i could always just add a bunch of padding-left on the div so that the text is pushed over and looks nicer although it is not centered, but i'm wondering whether there's a way to do it the way i originally planned to.. thanks very much for looking at this. Similar TutorialsI'm helping these fine folks fix a few little issues with their site but this one I can't seem to quite figure out. If you roll over the main menu you will see the sub menu slide down on the left. For the life of me I can't get it to line up under the main nav. I've tried many, many things. Can anyone provide a few hints, tips, suggestions? I've picked through each element but I can't see any reason for it to do that. Am I missing something? Hello folks, I've made a page where the user can change the style sheets by simply enabling/disabling them with a javascript. The page also contains 4 layers which are stacked on top of one another. I've came up against a problem that has me stumped! Basically if the user switches style sheets to a sheet that contains a smaller font-size, the currently visible Layer changes size which causes some of the text in the layer to be cut out of view. It also re-aligns the DIV contents to the left of the DIV instead of centered as it is set. I have tried playing around with overflow:visible and giving the layer a width to accomodate all text sizes, but I couldn't get it to work. Any ideas how I could get it to work? The only other idea I had was to reload the page but that isn't very elegant is it?! Any CSS experts know how it should be done? Best regards. How can i accomplish this with CSS? See image he hxxp://g.imagehost.org/0398/css.png (replace x with t) Hi guys. I am building a website where some pages are long (and the slidebar appears) and others are short (so the slidebar doesnt appear) The problem is that the page is centered and when the slidebar appears, the page moves a bit to the left. I could set the left-margin to X pixels but then it wont work as expected with different resolutions. Is there anyway to solve this problem? My site is here... css here... I have two .gif files I want to use in the header... the main one (header.gif) should be centered (as it is now)... while the other (header_spread.gif) should repeat on the left and right sides of the centered header.gif... The .gif files are transparent, so I can't use the spread as the entire background... I'd also like to refrain from making header.gif (don't care about header_spread.gif) a background or making the background of header.gif white, and have it in an <img> tag instead so I can dynamically change my header with the seasons... (though if background is the only way, I could have a header class for each season and have my script change it, so that solution would technically work too, but create a larger css file.) I need help formatting this properly... I can get the spread to work as a background for the entire div header, but that messes up the look of the center gif... Thanks Bryan hello genius people... please help this designer move more toward css after years of tables and images... I have a prob with ie 5 and 6 [not sure on 7] showing the content of a scrolling div outside of a containing frame. http://jodihelmer.com/portfolio.html and http://jodihelmer.com/journal.html the content in the scrolling frame shows up outside of the centered content. one possible fix I came up with is to increase the size of the divs at the edge and give them a background color. this seems to work. but, I also need to hide the content to thetop and left of the frame as well. is there a way to keep these divs within the centered wrapper while allowing them to expand to go to the edge of the browser window's relative size? or is there a better way to do this altogether? thanks so much. s How to get a text aligned vertically in a css button? Is there any way to make some text vertically aligned inside a DIV? Just like you would do inside a cell? Code: <table><td valign="middle" height="100">This text is vertically aligned</td></table> Apparently, the vertically-align CSS property only works if it is relative to other DIVs. What I want is some vertically aligned text inside a DIV. Thanks for the help. Wow I REALLY hate CSS. For hours I have been trying to figure this out: Here is some HTML Code: <td> <div class="linksbar"> <div class="linkstext"> link - link - link - link <img src="imagelink.jpg"> <img src="imagelink2.jpg"> </div> </div> </td> [CODE] the CSS [CODE] .linksbar { height: 28px; background-image: url(bg.jpg); } .linkstext { vertical-align: middle; line-height: 28px; font-weight: bold; color: white; } First problem: in Chrome, the text rests at the bottom of the div. I want it in the middle. Second problem: in IE it looks like a mess. The text is sort of in the middle (more towards the bottom). the image links are at the very top. The image link height is like 20 or something. Hi, I am making a site and it is important the text is always positioned over the background image in the same place. I have managed to do this. When I zoom out the text stays in the correct position however when I zoom in (as if I am looking on a smaller screen) the text re positions to the edge of the browser. How can I keep the text in the same position on all monitors? Here is what I have so far (I am very new to css): #content { text-align: left; width: 1060px; padding: 0px 30px 0px 30px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; } Thanks Cameron Sounds weird, but you know us designers are always looking for fresh ways to present content. I've not actually managed to make this work, even though it seems ridiculously simple; in effect it would just be full justification except any orphaned lines would be right-justified, not left. Any ideas? Not sure if this should go in HTML forum or here, but there is CSS involved, so... Anyways, have a page here with 3 images aligned right. (Currently they are floated right, but problem originally was seen with aligned right, changed to css float and problem is the same). http://www.4for4.com/draft_board/to...r_id=HOTSTOVE13 I only see the issue in Chrome, but in Chrome if I refresh the browser, about every third or forth time the text will not wrap around one of the bottom 2 images in the main content area (Hancock & Theron). The text will just lay over the top of the image. If I refresh it will work again, but randomly will not render correctly over one of the two images that is aligned right. Is this just a weird Chrome rendering issue? Or is there some property I can add to the image that will force this to not happen? Thanks a lot. Hi, I wonder if you can help me, In FF, this site has it's rows messed up. If you scroll down towards the bottom the colours become out-of-sync with the text. Can anyone help? (It works fine in IE and Opera) Thanks CSS Code (scroll down): http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/...&usermedium=all Thanks again I'm trying to resize links on hover but doing so they change their vertical alignment during hover. Is there a way to prevent this ? Basically I just want the text to be bottom aligned and stay that way on hover. "text-align: top" works, but thats not what I want. simple example: CSS: Code: a:link, a:visited, a:active { font-size: 1em; } a:hover { font-size: 1.5em; } HTML: Code: <div> <a href="#">Text</a> </div> This is my rendition of Claire Campbell's "Vertical Buttons". Why is my text "Quick Links" not centered in IE? All the other text is centered? Thanks in advance. For example: Code: Fig. 13. Scatter diagram comparing two subspecies of Nyctimene albiventer. One individual of specimens thought to be intergrades is as large as specimens of Nyctimene a. bougainville, whereas the other three intergrades are about the same size as specimens of N. a. minor. CSS seems to only offer one or the other text-align:justify; or text-align:center; Thanks. Hi, Okay my boss wants me to do this: Have a rectangualr div that has another div in it that is smaller and is in the (vertically and horizontally) center. No probs, but the one in the middle has to have text floating around it, thats above left right and bottom. Me thinks this is impossible! Does anyone have any idea??? Cheers, Confused yet? What's the best way to accomplish this? page testimonials.css Main.CSS If you look at the page, you will see that I have the "signature" of the testimonial giver aligned right, but I would like the two p elements to be aligned along their left edge as well (but on the right side of the page, with everything flowing around any images)... I tried floating them right, which and clearing the floats, but then the testimonials don't flow around the images... can this be done without getting divitis? |
