CSS - Cell Responding To Dynamic Width Of Row-partners.
Here's the code:
Code: <table class="tab_thin_table"> <tr> <td class="tab_start_off" rowspan="2"></td><td class="tab_bg_off" rowspan="2">Example 1</td><td class="tab_end_off" rowspan="2"></td> <td class="tab_start_on" rowspan="2"></td><td class="tab_bg_on" rowspan="2">Example 1 ON</td><td class="tab_end_on" rowspan="2"></td> <td class="tab_start_off" rowspan="2"></td><td class="tab_bg_off" rowspan="2">Example 3</td><td class="tab_end_off" rowspan="2"></td> <td class="tab_thin_spacer"></td> </tr> <tr> <td class="tab_thin_top"></td> </tr> </table> Here's the CSS: Code: tab_thin_table { width: 578px; vertical-align: top; } .tab_thin_top { height: 1px; background-color: #6E7073; } .tab_thin_spacer { height: 19px; } .tab_start_on { width: 6px; height: 20px; background: url(../container/tab_start_on.gif); background-repeat: no-repeat; } .tab_bg_on { background: url(../container/tab_bg_on.gif); } .tab_end_on { width: 10px; height: 20px; background: url(../container/tab_end_on.gif); background-repeat: no-repeat; } NOTE: tabs with "off" are same as tabs with "on" just different image Here's the problems As you can see the tab_thin_spacer and tab_thin_top sit on top of each other. The cells with are using the tab ons and offs are of dynamic widh determined by each page. However, the tab_thin_table is a set width. I need tab_spacer and tab_top to always stretch the rest of the existing width of the table; whatever width is not taken up by the tab ons and offs Thanks Similar TutorialsI have set my table cell #3 to 246px and have placed an image (called keyboard.jpg) with a width of 246px in it as a background image (the only cell in the table with an image), yet the table cell has expanded beyond that 246px width. I need to set the cellpadding to 5px because for legibility for all the other cells (with just text) in the table. Can I turn off the cellpadding for just this one cell #3 that has an image in it? Why does a background image in a table cell react to the table's cellpadding? Should I remove the keyboard.jpg as a background image and make it an in-table image? <em>Whatever the case, how can I make the image fit nicely without any extra space in the cell?</em> Here's my code and my stylesheet: <div id="table"> <table width="725" border="0" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="0" class="table"> <tr> <td width="1"> </td> <td class="cell1" width="130"><p><strong>Yada</strong></p> <p>Bla bla bla</p> <p>Bla bla bla</p></td> <td class="cell2" width="124"><p><strong>Yada</strong></p> <p>Bla bla bla</p> </td> <td class="cell3" width="246"></td> <td class="cell4" width="174"><p><strong>Yada</strong></p> <p>Bla bla bla<br /> <br /> Bla bla bla</p></td> </tr> <tr> <td class="tdblue"> </td> <td class="cell5"><p><strong>Yada</strong></p> <p>Bla bla bla</p></td> <td class="cell6"><p><strong>Yada</strong></p> <p>Bla bla bla</p></td> <td class="cell7"><p><strong>Yada</strong></p> <p>Bla bla bla Bla bla bla Bla bla bla Bla bla bla Bla bla bla Bla bla bla</p></td> <td class="cell8"><p><strong>Yada</strong></p> <p>Bla bla bla</p></td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> <td class="cell9"><p><strong>Yada</strong></p> <p>Bla bla bla Bla bla bla Bla bla bla</p></td> <td class="cell10"><p><strong>Yada</strong></p> <p>Bla bla bla Bla bla bla.</p></td> <td class="cell11"><p><strong>Yada</strong></p> <p>Bla bla bla Bla bla bla Bla bla bla Bla bla bla </p></td> <td class="cell12" width="174"><p><strong>Yada</strong></p> <p>Bla bla bla Bla bla bla Bla bla bla </p></td> </tr> </table> Here's my stylesheet: table { width: 760px; margin: auto; font-family: verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; font-weight: 400; line-height: 150%; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; letter-spacing: .5px; } table td { vertical-align: top; } td.cell1 { background: white; padding: 5; width: 130px; } td.cell2 { background: #F7F4EE; padding: 5; width: 124px; } td.cell3 { background: #ffffff; background-image: url(../images/keyboard.jpg); background-repeat: no-repeat; spacing: 0; padding: 0; width: 246px; } td.cell4 { background: #F7F4EE; padding: 5; width: 174px; } td.cell5 { background: #DFE5F0; padding: 5; width: 130px; } td.cell6 { background: white; padding: 5; width: 124px; } td.cell7 { background: #DFE5F0; padding: 5; width: 246px; } td.cell8 { background: white; padding: 5; width: 174px; } td.cell9 { background: white; padding: 5; width: 130px; } td.cell10 { background: #F7F4EE; padding: 5; width: 124px; } td.cell11 { background: white; padding: 5; width: 246px; } td.cell12 { background: #F7F4EE; padding: 5; width: 174px; } .tdblue { background: #DFE5F0; } .tdtan { background: #F7F4EE; } I have a table with two rows. It has some very basic CSS - borders, padding, etc. In FF and Chrome it works exactly like I expect, but, big surprise, IE7 is causing me some problems. I haven't tested with any other IE versions. The first table row is a header with a CSS background image and some text. The second row is a basic content row. If I put just one text character in the cell everything is fine. If I put enough text in the cell that it wraps to the second line that makes the second row display about 4-6 pixels WIDER than the top row. Any ideas? I can send the source if you like, but it's a lot to take in. Thanks! Hello, i am creating a dynamic content php page. I start with a photoshop image and create slices and have it output the HTML and CSS table. The problem i am having is that the center cell where the content should go does not expand when the the text goes out of its bound. Is there a way i can do this? Here is the code and a link to the example output. Code: <STYLE TYPE="text/css"> <!-- #index-01 { position:absolute; left:0px; top:0px; width:923px; height:103px; } #index-02 { position:auto; left:923px; top:0px; width:100%; height:103px; background-image:url(images/headerbkgdlg.gif) } #index-03 { position:absolute; left:0px; top:103px; width:240px; height:35px; } #index-04 { position:absolute; left:240px; top:103px; width:487px; height:40px; } #index-05 { position:absolute; left:727px; top:103px; width:196px; height:35px; } #index-06 { position:absolute; left:923px; top:103px; width:32px; height:452px; } #index-07 { position:absolute; left:0px; top:138px; width:36px; height:417px; } #index-08 { position:absolute; left:36px; top:138px; width:182px; height:312px; } #index-09 { position:absolute; left:218px; top:138px; width:22px; height:417px; } #index-10 { position:absolute; left:727px; top:138px; width:196px; height:398px; } #index-11 { position:absolute; left:240px; top:138px; width:683px; height:397px; } #index-12 { position:absolute; left:36px; top:450px; width:182px; height:105px; } #index-13 { position:absolute; left:240px; top:536px; width:683px; height:19px; } #index-14 { position:absolute; left:0px; top:555px; width:923px; height:22px; } #index-15 { position:absolute; left:923px; top:555px; width:100%; height:21px; background-color:#DCCC00; } #index-16 { position: absolute; left: 923px; width: 100%; height: 451; top:103px; } --> </STYLE> http://67.86.83.106:81/homeline/index.php I would like the bottom portion along with the menu cell to resize vertically based on the amount of data but always atleast have the given size it is now. Thanks for the help Hey guys, I'm having trouble with the cellpadding on a "tab" on my page. I've got a div that has a table with a single cell inside it. The table is left justified in the div and has a black background. I can't give the table cell a fixed width because a word of variable length will appear inside it. The text in the cell appears aligned center and valigned middle, with 10 pixels of padding on the left and right sides. This appears exactly right in every browser but IE 6 on Windows, where the left and right padding is lost, and the word is bumped right up to the edge of the black table cell. How can I fix this? Thanks a lot. Here's the page: http://aoi2.keysandwings.com/about.php Here's the HTML: Code: <div class="relativetitle""> <table class="titletable"> <tr> <td align="center" valign="middle">About</td> </tr> </table> </div> And here's the CSS: Code: .relativetitle { position: relative; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; z-index: 1; width: 682px; height: 30px; color: white; background: transparent; font-size: larger; text-align: left } .titletable { height: 100%; padding-left: 10px; padding-right: 10px; background: black } Hi all, I've got a problem with CSS, and while I usually can fix them myself, I can't seem to find a solution to this one. I want to create a centered block with a dynamic width using almost nothing but CSS (except for the div in the HTML code). Not specified by percentages, but instead specified by the distance from both the left and the right border of the block to the body. So what I want is to specify the left and right properties of the DIV, so my first attempt was: Code: #block { position: absolute; top: 40px; right: 40px; left: 40px; height: 40px; } In Opera and FireFox it worked fine, but in Internet Explorer the block had no width. Does anyone know of a way to accomplish this? i want to fit in my 'Did you know?' panel beside my ad, but i'm having a lot of trouble... the ad is 468x60. here is the panel: Code: <div class='ocontentsection panelmargins floatleft' style='margin-left:8px; height:101px; width:167px;'> <h2 class='aligncenter' style='text-indent:0;'> Did you know? </h2> <div class='contenttext' style='font-size:9px;'> <p class='nomargins'> <?php $tips = array( "The formula generating your VIPortals Score is: <strong>Games Played * 2 + Votes Casted * 3 + Comments Added * 4 + (Games Played + Votes Casted + Comments Added) * 5</strong>", "The money awarded to the winners of every contest comes from the <strong>advertisers</strong> who are paying us to place their ads here." ); $rand_index = round(rand(0, count($tips) - 1)); echo $tips[$rand_index]; ?> </p> </div> </div> look here in the middle of the page i want the text to fit inside the box too :S is there a better way of doing this? as you can see, i had to set a bunch of widths and stuff... thanks. I've run into a problem with a 3-column layout I'm making. The problem is to get the columns equally high. Previously I've just made the "illusion" of equally high columns by making a background image and repeating it in the y-direction (like this). This works fine as long as the page has a fixed with - in this case the left and right column have a fixed width but the center column is dynamic. So, how can I make all the columns look equally high? (without using tables, obviously) Btw, I can't show you an example of the page, but hopefully you'll get the picture and could point me to an article or something about the subject. EDIT: Never mind! I found an example and it worked! http://www.pixy.cz/blogg/clanky/css-3col-layout/ <-- thats the one. Solved. Thanks anyhow. Ok, I've read over and over my CSS and everything seems perfect. In my HTML editor, the CSS is working, but when it gets the the internet, the content goes berserk. Here are the parts of the code that are not responding: CSS #content { width:610px; margin-left:0px; position:absolute; left:128px; top:156px; padding:25px; height: 838px; } HTML <div id="content"> (too long for post, please veiw source at website) </div> And the link to the website EDIT: Border problem solved by adding a border-style. I have some (table)border and (cell)padding commands that are not responding in any significant way. Let me first explain what you should see. Then show you the code. It should appear is a black rectangle. Inside this are cells which all have an area of 3px around them. The cells are colored but the area around them should be white (set default color if possible). This white padding should also be right inside the black border, as well as between all cells equally. I may be trying to achieve this the wrong way; I am new to using padding/spacing/border at all, let alone the changes in CSS. Here's the code: CSS: Code: .results_main_table { width: 536px; height: 101px; border: 1px; border-color: #000000; border-style: solid; #just added to fix borders } .results_main_cell { width: 534px; height: 101px; } .results_content_table { width: 534px; height: 99px; } .results_pic_bg { height: 93px; width: 93px; background-color: #F2F2F2; padding: 3px; } .results_infobar_short { width: 214px; height: 21px; background-color: #F6F6F6; padding: 3px; } .results_infobar_medium { width: 215px; height: 21px; background-color: #CCCCCC; padding: 3px; } .results_infobar_long { width: 350px; height: 21px; background-color: #F6F6F6; padding: 3px; } .results_infobar_fav { width: 79px; height: 21px; background-color: #F6F6F6; padding: 3px; } HTML: Code: <table class="results_main_table"> <tr> <td class="results_main_cell"> <table class="results_content_table"> <tr> <td class="results_pic_bg" rowspan="3"></td> <td class="results_infobar_short"> [username]</td> <td class="results_infobar_medium"> [age] years old</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="results_infobar_short"> [sex_stat]</td> <td class="results_infobar_medium"> Body Type: [body]</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="results_infobar_long"> Location: [city], [state/province], [CC]</td> <td class="results_infobar_fav"><center>ADD to FAV</center></td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> Any advice ? PHP Code: _results.setAttribute("style", "visibility : hidden;height : 1%;"); node.Height = int isnt working either. Thanks in advance. currently i have links defined as a certain color and changes to a certain color when i hover over them.. i have a table which has these links inside the cells and when i hover over the cell, the background of the cell changes color but the link wont change color until i hover over the link.. is there anyway so that when i hover over the cell i can make the link change color too? the problem is i have some padding for the cells, so once i go inside the cell but dont hover exactly over the link, the background will change but the link won't until i hover over it thanks I have a table that is populated using Spry. So for example when I have no data for the cell State, the left and bottom border of that cell is white rather than black. Any ideas? Thanks! I'm having some problems with CSS. If you look at the pictures below, the first is a screenshot of what it is supposed to look like. It's how it looks in most browsers. The second one, however, is how it looks in IE 6 on Windows and IE 5 on the Mac. It is wrong. Correct look Incorrect look I want to know how to fix this. The little colored boxes are supposed to be squares and have solid borders on them. The shape is off and the borders are missing on the IE version. Also, on the progress bar, there is not supposed to be space between the cells but there is. There is also space between every cell on the page and there is not supposed to be any. Here is my main CSS: Code: body { background-color: #FFFFFF; } a { text-decoration: none; font-weight: bold; } a:link { color: #003366; background-color: transparent; } a:visited { color: #003300; background-color: transparent; } a:active { color: #339933; background-color: transparent; } a:hover { text-decoration: underline; } table { border: 1px solid black; border-collapse: separate; border-spacing: 0px;} td, th { border: 0px solid black; padding: 5px; text-align: center; white-space: nowrap; } tr.one { background-color: #FFFFFF; } tr.two { background-color: #DDDDDD; } table.squares { border: 0px; border-spacing: 1px; width: 50px; height: 10px; } td.square { border: 1px solid grey; padding: 4px; } td.nopadding { padding: 0px; } .default { font-family: Verdana, Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10px; color: #000000; } .h1 { font-size: 200%; font-weight: bold; text-align: center;} .h2 { font-size: 120%; font-weight: bold; } .h3 { font-weight: bold; } .step { font-size: 150%; font-weight: bold; color: #999999; } Here is one of the sets of squares: Code: <table class="squares"> <tr> <td class="square" style="background-color: #CCCC66"></td> <td class="square" style="background-color: #CC9966"></td> <td class="square" style="background-color: #990000; border: black"><td> <td class="square" style="background-color: #669966"></td> <td class="square" style="background-color: #669999"></td> </tr> </table> And finally, here is one of my progress bars: Code: <table style="color: white; width: 100px"> <tr> <td style="padding:0px; text-align: right; padding-right: 5px; background-color:#222244; width:41px"></td> <td style="padding:0px; text-align: left; padding-left: 5px; background-color:#666666; width:59px">40.7%</td> </tr> </table> And in case that code is not enough, here is a link to the full HTML. According to this CSS test my CSS is not wrong. So does IE just suck? Is there something I can do to make it work in all browsers? My last question is, should I be using div tags for my boxes and progress bars instead of tables? I couldn't figure out how to make them work with divs so I just went with what I knew. Could someone give me an example of each using divs so I can learn how to make it work? Hi there! This might seem really basic but I don't seem to be able to remove the default border from a cell I created. The code looks like this: "<p> </p> <table align="center" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;"> <tbody> <tr> <td> <div style="overflow: auto; height: 475px; width: 700px; border-style: hidden;"> <p align="center"> <img height="457" width="600" src="images/stories/vlkommen3.jpg" alt="vlkommen3" style="margin: 0px; vertical-align: middle;" /> </p> <p align="center"> </p> <p> </p> </div> </td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <p> </p> How shall I do to hide the border? Thanks in advance! /Kristoffer Hi, I have hit the "wall" in my knowledge of CSS while trying to implement a "flex-width-equal-height-sidebar-layout" style of layout as a skin/theme for a message board system and need some help. My trouble occurs when a direct link to the post is used (instead of following the menu navigation system) where the top menu information/links area (the area between the banner and the post) is chopped off... The relevant portion of the CSS seems to be the .col_wrap {margin-top: 10px; border: 0; overflow: hidden; float: left; width: 100%; position: relative; z-index: 10; clear: both;} portion of my CSS because if I take out the overflow:hidden declaration then the menu portion of the skin/theme/layout shows correctly but the sidebar the shows the part which should be hidden at the bottom and the footer completely vanishes from view! My apologies but this is the best I can do without having the ability to post pics or urls which could better explain what is wrong and frankly speaking I don't know how anyone here can help given my inability to show the problem but hopefully someone knows or has run into this problem before or can offer some resources that may be of assistance.... i ve been playing with my page and been trying to modify the width of the page (divs) according to the browswer's width. The problem is i want the navigation menu on left to be fixed width (say 200px) and the center div and the right column to be variable width. Also, i want to set a minimum width , so that the floating divs dont roll below the navigation menu. here s the link to the page. try reducing ur browser windows size . the content div rolls down under theleft nav menu. http://ccc.1asphost.com/pacemakerpr...r/cicuitlab.htm Also , i get wierd result in netscape navigator. please help I have an absolutely positioned <div> containing a block of text. I have not specified a width for this <div>. This <div> is nested within another <div> for which I have specified a width of 200px. So something like: html4strict Code: Original - html4strict Code <div style="position: relative; width: 200px;"> <div style="position: absolute; top: 10px; left: 20px; z-index: 100;"> Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Curabitur eu purus a tellus mollis consequat. Phasellus aliquam sapien quis mauris. </div> </div> <div style="position: relative; width: 200px;"> Since the absolutely positioned <div> is not part of the page's normal flow, I would expect that its width would expand according to its contents (and the browser window's boundries). Instead, in Firefox only, the width of the absolutely positioned <div> expands only to the width of its parent - in this case 200px. Am I doing something wrong? or is there a workaround for this? I have seen a design which I find pretty interesting where in the main site is aligned left and fixed width at say 700px wide. Yet the footer seems to span the entire screen. The header also seems to use the entire screen width but that is beign accomplished with the background image, but this footer goes all the way to end of the screen and naturally adjusts itself under all the content. Is there a way to get this effect? Ok. Here's the problem: I have a asp.net 1.x datagrid inside a floated div and I want the datagrid to stretch the width of the div. This div is in the center of two other floated divs. Is there a way to make a table go 100% the width of its container div? Css code: Code: /* left bar: */ #navBar{ width: 185px; float: left; } /* right bar: */ #rightModulesContainer { width: 130px; margin: 0; padding: 0px 0px 0px 10px; float: right; } /* center content: */ #content{ padding: 0px 5px 0px 0px; margin-top:0; margin-bottom:0; margin-left:4px; margin-right:0px; float: left; text-align:left; /*display: inline;*/ } /* contained in #container: */ #dataGridContainer{ margin: 0; padding-bottom: 10px; min-width:360px; } .categoryGridStyle { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10px; font-style: normal; color: #000000; width:100%; } and here is the layout of the divs: Code: <div id="navBar">left navigation bar here (tree view)</div> <div id="rightModulesContainer">right side bar here</div> <div id="content"><div id="dataGridContainer">datagrid here</div></div> Thanks for your help in advance. I've been messing with this for a while - trying to get it to work cross browser is driving me nuts. I've tried placing the divs in containers and floating the containers, I've tried everything I can think of... |
