CSS - Ie Problems Displaying Css Links
Hi All,
I've created the below style sheet for links on my site, but MS IE won't display the classes properly! In the first class "navlink" it displays ok except for the last cell in a table of 5 columns where no styling is applied! The second class "sidelink" is used to style side navigation links within div tags on a page, but the links appear as hyperlinks with no styling except color and the background highlight on hover does not expand to 100% of the containing div! only around the text. link to page: Click here Does anyone know what's up with this? as it all displays fine in Mozilla but not Ms IE. Thanks PHP Addict Code: A.sidenav:LINK { color:#FFFFFF; font-variant: small-caps; font-size: 85%; text-decoration: none; display: block; width: 100%; height: 100%; } A.sidenav:VISITED { color: #FFFFFF; } A.sidenav:HOVER { color: #FFF6BF; background-color:#00158C; text-decoration: none; } A.sidenav:ACTIVE { color: #FFF6BF; } Similar TutorialsHi there! I'm having troubles with link formatting on my website. They sidebar links display fine until the user clicks on one of them. After that, when returning to the original page, the links display "too short" as if they are no longer displaying as block elements. Here's some of the relevant HMTL: Code: <ul class="sidelinks"> <li><a href="http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/" title="Firefox download page">Firefox Browser</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp" title="ZoneAlarm download page">ZoneAlarm Firewall</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.safer-networking.org/" title="Spybot download page">Spybot Search and Destroy</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php">Adaware</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html" title="Avast download page">Avast Antivirus</a></li> </ul> And here is the CSS: Code: .sidelinks li a { color:#f90; border-bottom:1px dotted #666; display:block; text-decoration:none; width:80%; padding:8px 6px; margin:0; } .sidelinks a:visited { color:#f90; border-bottom:1px dotted #666; display:block; text-decoration:none; width:15%; padding:8px 6px; margin:0; } .sidelinks a:hover { color:#fff; background:#f90; } .sidelinks li { font:110% Arial; margin:0; } ul { margin:0; } #sidebar ul, #bestofdthek ul { list-style-type:none; } Can anyone help? Thanks so much for looking! Gary I give up. *falls over* So.. I'm dabbling in CSS. I have a general idea of how it's used and all that good stuff... I'm just having some massive issues with some of the coding. Issues that I should not be having. I'm attempting to change the color of links, visited, active, hover and otherwise. But here's where it gets strange. I get the links to change color. But... they won't all change. My code was initially more complex, but with this problem I've hacked it down to this incase there was some non working bit of text somewhere that was making something not parse properly... Code: A:link { color:#2A2C8B; } A:visited { color:#1D1D2D; } A:active { color:white; } A:hover { color:#7A7CBB; } In this example, visited, active and hover work beautifully. Link, on the other hand, is the same old boring color as usual. So in a fit of desperation, i alter my coding as follows: Code: A:visited { color:#1D1D2D; } A:link { color:#2A2C8B; } A:active { color:white; } A:hover { color:#7A7CBB; } now the visited link does not work, and the bottom three do. Why? why? *cry* here's the entierity of my style sheet, if anybody wants it. Code: <style type="text/css"> A:link { color:#2A2C8B; } A:active { color:white; } A:visited { color:#1D1D2D; } A:hover { color:#7A7CBB; } body { Font-variant: Arial; color: #111128; font-size: small; background: #6C5165; background-image: url(swirlstar2.jpg); background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: fixed; margin-left: 10%; margin-right: 10%; h1 { margin-left: -8%; } h2,h3,h4,h5,h6 { margin-left: -4%; } } </style> I am aware that there may well be an error or five in the body section... but I honestly havn't done alot of work there yet. my main concern is getting the links to work properly. And yes, I've tried snipping out the body tags and like leaving the link stuff there and it doesn't work. I've checked this in both Firefox and IE. My editor is notepad. Help? It's really appreciated... thank you. I have a really weird problem with links and CSS. I have develop a design that can stretch in order to make room for content. Then i pull some text, and, at the bottom, there is a footer nav bar. Now, if the content i put on the page is not too long (i mean, the main content area is not stretching itself below the viewable area of the screen), then the links work as a charm, but, as soon as you put some more content, then the links stop working. I would be glad to share the source code with anyone (i am not posting it here to avoid boring), but you can take a first glimpse at http://partyingout.net/dev_zone/ I have tested it on almost any mac os x and suse linux browser and the glitch is there (in some cases, like OmniWeb. the links are not working at all). I know it is something i have done wrong, but i can spot it, and, i googling it for most than two days (and once again, i know it is me not knowing how to search). Can someone give me a hand? Best regards. Hi, I'm trying to create a menu bar using CSS (I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it. Maybe I should be using frames for this menu bar so I'm not constantly copying and pasting code from page to page?) Anyway, my problem is that everything appears fine when I view the page in the browser using F12 (this creates a temporary file). But when I try to view index.htm by double clicking on it, the CSS style hasn't been applied to the text at all. I have spent hours on this to no avail. Can someone please please help? thanks, Jean The site in question... http://cbo4edu.org/newSite/index.html I know this is probably a very simple fix but I've tried everything I could think of so I now have to rely on the Dev Shed community. Can someone please tell me why theh3 tag in the center column is underlined? I only want this heading to be underlined when someone hovers over it. C I have been trying in vain to get div elements on a page to behave how i want them to. I have a list of items, in the middle of which i need to display some tablular information witha picture along side it. This i have managed to acieve fine, but i can't get the next <li> to start below these 2, it starts alongside and the wraps underneath. I have tried everything. Can anyone help? <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> <style type="text/css"> <!-- #wrapper{ font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; margin-left: 20px; width: 550px; font-size: 12px; line-height: 22px; letter-spacing: 0.5px; color: #666666; } #topimg { margin: 20px 0; padding-bottom: 20px; border-bottom: 1px dotted #CCCCCC; text-align:left; display:block; } #secondimg { margin: 0 0 0 20px; text-align:left; display:block; } #bodyimg{ padding: 20px 0px 20px 20px; float:left; display:block; } #listtable{ padding-top: 20px; padding-bottom: 20px; float:left; font-size: 10px; letter-spacing: 0.5px; color: #891C46; list-style-type: none; line-height:18px; } #listtable li{ margin: 1px; padding: 1px; } #listtable div { margin: 1px; padding: 1px; background-color: #F7F7F7; } --> </style> <title>Carlton</title> </head> <body> <div id="wrapper"> <div id="topimg"> <img src="/carlton-newsite/img/planandbuy/planandbuy.gif" width="173" height="33"> </div> <div id="secondimg"> <img src="/carlton-newsite/img/planandbuy/thebasics.gif" width="133" height="23"> </div> <ul> <li>Cinema Advertising is available in weekly blocks starting on Fridays.</li> <li>It is possible to buy <em> guaranteed admissions</em> by TV region, <em> follow specific films</em> or <em> nominate individual screens</em>. </li> <li>The minimum time unit available is 5 seconds. It looks fine in Firefox and Safari, but in IE none of the CSS is used, it looks like a regular html document. I've run the Validations for both files and they pass (aside from the html file throwing errors about the css styles). Can someone please help me out here. Thanks I'm working on a site (here) that has a two column style layout. Everything works fine in almost any browser OTHER than IE... In IE, the main (right) column shifts so that it is below the content length of the left (floated) column. I want them to be side by side... Hi, I have CSS document like so: Code: div.menu A:link { definitions } div.menu A:visited { definitions } div.menu A:active { definitions } div.menu A:hover { definitions } And in my HTML document Code: <div class="menu"> Links are then put in here </div> But only the first Link effect works, how come? I tried Google, got few results I were looking for, I know that the Link effects has to be in certain order, and in these websites I found they were in different order tried both but no luck Thanks alot! I have set up a CSS file for a website I am building, however, when I click on the links which work correctly (at first) it goes to the desired place, if I go "back" the link turns to a larger italic font. Look here for example. http://www.burrellprolabs.com/newsite.htm if you click on one of the body copy links under "latestNEWS" then go back you will see what I mean. here is my css style for that particular part: .bodycopy { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10px; color: #575757; text-decoration: none; line-height: 13px; } .bodycopy a:link { color: #BF0000; text-decoration: none; } .bodycopy a:active { color: #BF0000; text-decoration: none; } .bodycopy a:visited { color: #BF0000; text-decoration: none; } .bodycopy a:hover { color: #969696; text-decoration: underline; My first post Website:www.freewebs.com/weareamazing I can't figure out how to move the links that are at the top of my page (Home, Graphics, Icons, Linking Back, Credits) to the side of my table. I also want to get rid of that line that is under the links. Thank you for your help! I have what seemed to be a simple idea but is turning out to bother me. In my style sheet i want to put a base url followed by a user id Link looks like this Code: http://mywebsite.com/this_folder/remote/html_server.php?xw_controller=hitlist&xw_action=set&target_id= Now in my html i have this Code: <table><tr><td >My name<td >Job position<td >606959150</tr> The last td that has the number in it i want to add to the end of the url posted above i cannot figure our what to put in the css to use as the main link and i want to add another td behind the last one with the number in it with the entirelink which should look like this Code: <a target="_blank" href="http://mywebsite.com/this_folder/remote/html_server.php?xw_controller=hitlist&xw_action=set&target_id=606959150">Link</a> I have to use this for multiple people each one using a unique ID# is there a simple way to do this, the reasoning behind this is that the main link changes once every few months, instead of changing all links i would like to be able to just change the one in the css file and be done with it. i hope i am explaining it correctly. Thanks ahead of time for any help u can provide question is about CSS and links. I can get underline effect, background change, etc by using .a but i need to have more than one sort of link in my page, e.g. menu links cannot have the same effect as links in the main text. How do i set up more than two link effects? I was messing around with <ul><li> type nav links, and had some issues with the bullet images I made were too large, so I made it as a background image for the <li> but <li> backgrounds didn't seem to work so well on IE. My question is this, why does everyone use <ul><li> to make their nav links when you can use less code just using <a>'s within a <div>? Here's my code example (bullet.jpg not included, it's just a 30px square I made in photoshop) Code: <html> <head> <style type="text/css"> #links li { text-indent:40px; list-style-type:none; } #links a { display:block; line-height:30px; height:30px; width:150px; background:#EEE url('bullet.jpg') no-repeat; } #links a:hover { background:#FFF url('bullet.jpg') no-repeat; } #links2 a { text-indent:40px; display:block; line-height:30px; height:30px; width:150px; background:#EEE url('bullet.jpg') no-repeat; } #links2 a:hover { background:#FFF url('bullet.jpg') no-repeat; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="links"> <ul> <li><a href="#">links</a></li> <li><a href="#">link 2</a></li> <li><a href="#">three</a></li> </ul> </div> <div id="links2"> <a href="#">links</a> <a href="#">link 2</a> <a href="#">three</a> </div> </div> </body> </html> I'm currently working on a website for college, but I've run into an issue I can't work out. I can't seem to get rid of the default purple box that appears around my links. The HTML: Code: <div id="homelink"><a href="index.html"></a></div> The CSS: Code: #homelink{ position:absolute; width:53px; height:17px; margin-top:25px; margin-left:70px; z-index:10; } #homelink a{ display:block; background-image:url(images/links/home.png); background-repeat:no-repeat; width:53px; height:17px; } #homelink a:hover{ display:block; background-image:url(images/links/homehover.png); width:53px; height:17px; } As you can see, I use a background image for the div and no text for the link. Clicking the background image works fine and takes me to the homepage, however I get the default visited and active link border around it. Is there any way to solve this so that no border appears? Hi, If I have the following CSS: body { margin: 0px; padding: 0px; } a:link, a:visited { color: #F36706; text-decoration: none; } a:hover, a:active { color: #F36706; text-decoration: underline overline; } #siteDimention { width: 758px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding: 0px; } How come the links in my page aren't changing from the normal blue/purple ones? |
