CSS - Css And Tables Issue
Hi! I'm working on a layout that involves a couple of different CSS files as well as tables... unfortunately if you view here, you can see that the tables are wanting to overlap and I'm not quite sure why:
redstringproductions.org/store/?p=1&slug=index.php The CSS files can be found here and he redstringproductions.org/store/wp-content/plugins/WP-online-store-additional-packs/stylesheet/stylesheet.css redstringproductions.org/store/wp-content/themes/writing/style.css Any advice would be greatly appreciated... thank you very much. Similar TutorialsHi everyone. Im facing a problem. Basically I have one large table, with 4 rows. In each row it has two tables, the tables are floating left to each other, with some margin properties inside the <td> tags. If you would please look here. http://www.thehundreds.com/ideaforum/betahelp.htm ... As you can see, im using a pattern. A new row, each new row has two tables that float too each other. everything is aligned correct until I get to my 4th row. for some reason it wont float left anymore to the procedding row. Anyone know why it does this? I added a new class for the fourth set of tables, and made it clear both on the float, and this happends. http://www.thehundreds.com/ideaforum/beta1.htm ... See now the 4th table on the left works, but the right does not. If anyone can help me out here I would really appreciate it. Thanks a ton. So I am using tables for a specific part of a website and I'm running into a problem with how IE vs Everything else is treating the CSS for it. I have the padding and margins set to 0 for the table/cells/rows etc and this works perfectly in everything BUT.......wait for it...........wait for it........ IE where it is putting what I believe to be a 2px cellpadding which wouldn't matter except that the background color and border are different colors so it looks bad. Now the only way I've been able to solve this is by adding a 'cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" in the HTML of the table...but this then messes things up for every OTHER browser..... Anyway around this seeing as how apparently css has no 'cellpadding or cellspacing' attribute? I'd appreciate any help with this, thanks in advance. So, I purchased a Wordpress template, installed it, works fine. In some of the posts I'm creating for the site, I want to include simple tables.... problem is, somewhere, somehow, the CSS file for the template I purchased is setting certain style rules for the tables I create. Including a background image. So, it's messing up my tables. I tried setting new table rules this basic way: .argh td { my styles here } then for my tables in my posts: <table class="argh"> It seems to be taking the text formatting that I included that way ... but the dang background image from some style somewhere else keeps showing up no matter what I do. :| Any help would be much appreciated. I have a table that is populated using Spry. For some of the users, the table is showing its' borders in white when there is no data in the cell and for other users (like me) it's showing its' borders in black like expected. This is occurring in IE8 for the user. I have IE8 as well. Here is a setup of my table Code: <div id="Content"> <p class='instructions'>Click a column header to sort the table.</p> <div spry:region="jdmba"> <div spry:state="loading" class="loading">Please wait while alumni data loads…</div> <table class="spry" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tr> <th scope="col" width="108px" class="sortable" spry:sort="last" id="last">Last Name</th> <th scope="col" width="106px" class="sortable" spry:sort="first" id="first">First Name</th> <th scope="col" width="269px" class="sortable" spry:sort="account" id="account">Company</th> <th scope="col" width="66px" class="sortable" spry:sort="state" id="state">State</th> <th scope="col" width="82px" class="sortable" spry:sort="hls_year" id="hls_year">JD</th> <th scope="col" width="82px" class="sortable" spry:sort="hbs_year" id="hbs_year">MBA</th> </tr> </table> <div class="Overload"> <table class="spry" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tr spry:repeat="jdmba" spry:setrow="jdmba" spry:odd="odd" spry:even="even" spry:hover="hover" > <td width="108px">{last}</td> <td width="106px">{first}</td> <td width="269px">{account}</td> <td width="66px">{state}</td> <td width="82px">{hls_year}</td> <td width="82px">{hbs_year}</td> </tr> </table> </div> </div> Here is my CSS file Code: a:link { text-decoration: none; } a:visited { text-decoration: none; } a:hover { text-decoration: none; } a:active { text-decoration: none; } #News a:link { color: #00F; } #News a:hover { color: #00F; text-decoration: underline; } body { background: #000 repeat; } #wrap { background: #000; width: 900px; border: thick solid #9C0029; float: left; height: auto; padding: 0px 0px 1em; margin-top: 2%; margin-left: 10%; } #footer { font: bold small/50px Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #FFF; background: #9C0029; text-align: center; height: 50px; width: 850px; margin-left: 25px; } #Header { background: #8F001C url(../images/banner.jpg) no-repeat center center; width: 850px; height: 150px; margin-top: 20px; margin-right: 20px; margin-left: 25px; } h1 { font: normal 18px Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000; text-align: left; } h2 { font: small Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; color: #333; text-align: justify; } h3 { font: normal medium "Times New Roman", Times, serif; color: #FFF; } h4 { font-size: small; color: #333; text-align: left; } .banners { background: #FFF0B2; width: auto; height: auto; font: 18px Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; padding-top: .5em; padding-bottom: .5em; text-indent: 10px; } .Content { font: 14px/normal Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; text-align: justify; display: block; padding: 2em 3em 3em; } .Content a:link { color: #00F; } .Content a:hover { color: #00F; text-decoration: underline; } .Content a:visited { color: #00F; } #inner_body { background: #FFF; height: auto; width: 800px; margin-top: 0px; margin-left: 50px; padding-top: 0.5em; padding-bottom: .5em; } #inner_border { margin: 0em auto auto; border: thin solid #8E887C; width: 775px; padding: 1em 0em 0em; } #nav_bar { height: 3em; width: 100%; margin-left: 0%; text-align: center; } #Content { height: auto; width: 95%; padding: 0em 0% 5em; margin: 2.5% 2.55% 2%; text-align: left; font-family: Verdana; } #nav { height: auto; width: 20em; } #News { margin-left: 2px; height: 30%; background: #FFF0B2; padding: 3%; } #News a:visited { color: #00F; } .Overload { height: 208px; overflow: auto; } .odd { background-color: #E8E8E8; } .even { background-color: #E8E8E8;} .hover { background-color: #FFC;} table.spry { font-family: Verdana; font-size: 12px; line-height:20px; cursor: pointer; } .instructions { font-family: Verdana; font-weight:bold; font-size: 12px; line-height:20px; cursor: pointer; margin-bottom:8px; } .loading { font-family: Verdana; font-weight:bold; font-size: 12px; line-height:20px; cursor: pointer; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:8px; color:#900; } table.spry th { border-left: 1px solid #000000; border-bottom: 1px solid #000000; border-top: 1px solid #000000; font-family:Verdana; padding: 0px; margin: 0px; } table.spry td { border-left: 1px solid #000000; border-bottom: 1px solid #000000; font-family:Verdana; padding: 0px; margin: 0px; } table.spry th.sortable:hover { cursor: pointer; } table.spry th.sortable { text-align:left; color:#FFFFFF; background: #8F001C url(../SpryAssets/bg.gif) no-repeat 95% 6px; } table.spry th.ascending { background: #8F001C url(../SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarUpHover.gif) no-repeat 95% 8px; } table.spry th.descending { background: #8F001C url(../SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarDownHover.gif) no-repeat 95% 8px; } I'm only placing borders on the left and bottom so that in my detail cells the borders aren't doubled up. So for example when I have no data for the cell State, the left and bottom border of that cell is white rather than black. Any ideas? Thanks! I'm not confident enough with CSS to just use it, so I'm mixing it with some tables too. I want a layout with two tables next to each at the top and then another below. The two at the top are working fine, but the one below keeps jumping back up to the top. I've managed to get an ugly fix by putting in a load of <br> but this doesn't work in IE7 (unless I add a lot more, pushing the content way down in other browsers) and isn't much of a solution. The other problem I have is that I want to have the majority of my page with a white background, but to get a surrounding border I've set the body background to be a colour and then placed a div around all the content. I want this div to be the size of the page and so set it's height to 100%, but this makes it too small. Not sure why. Here is my code for my page and CSS. If anyone can help I'd be most grateful. Thanks for your help in advance.. Dan Hi everyone, For years I've been using tables solely to position elements on web pages but it's come to my attention that this is now "frowned" upon in the web community so I figured if I'm going to start doing things the more common way (with DIVs) I might as well start now. I'm not a professional website developer (C programmer here...eek! haha), but I do part time web work for some important clients of mine. So I have a very simple layout done with DIVs/CSS to start (code at the bottom). The problem is when you render it you'll see a large gap between the bottom of the layout and bottom of the page. My hypothesis is that this is due to where the "DIVs" would normally have been, except I moved them around. It sounds very similar to the problem encountered he http://forums.devshed.com/css-help-116/how-to-remove-blank-space-at-bottom-554773.html but I don't see what he did to solve it. Note that ultimately what I want is only the "header" and "footer" to have a fixed width/height. The leftcol and content should have fixed widths, but height grow with what ever is in them. And it should be centered in the page the way it is now. I tried various "text-wrap" and "height: 100%" and a few different codes but no luck. I really don't want to have to give up on DIV's but I am finding them a tad frustrating . I've altered the code from here (http://www.devarticles.com/c/a/Web-Style-Sheets/DIV-Based-Layout-with-CSS/3/). I tried "floating" them but that didn't seem to help either or is messes up my centering, plus I don't want it expanding to different resolutions. Thanks in advance if you can give a DIV newbie a heads up. Code: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head> <title>TWO-COLUM FIXED LAYOUT WITH FIXED BOXES</title> <style type="text/css"> <!-- #header { background: #0f0; position: relative; z-index: 1; top: 0px; left: 0px; width: 800px; height: 100px; } #leftcol { background: #f00; position: relative; z-index: 2; top: 0px; left: -325px; width: 150px; height: 600px; } #content { background: #ff0; position: relative; z-index: 3; top: -600px; left: 75px; width: 650px; height: 600px; } #footer { background: #0f0; position: relative; z-index: 4; top: -600px; left: 0px; width: 800px; height: 100px; } --> </style> </head> <body style="margin: 0pt;"> <div align="center"> <div id="header">Header Section</div> <div id="leftcol">Left Section <p align="left"> Test </p> </div> <div id="content">Content Section</div> <div id="footer">Footer Section</div> </div> </body> </html> Hello I am having difficulties with a site I am working on. First, if you look at it in IE and roll your mouse to the right of the site the whole thing shifts to the left. No idea why it does this. Second: In Firefox it looks like a disaster! Help! http://www.tombraiders.net/katie/shelly/index.html User: letme Pass: in Thank you! I'm having trouble pinning down an issue with just one part of a page. I can't seem to figure out if the issue is a css issue or an HTML issue. I have a tab that is under a picture that has a floating height and fixed width. Under the picture when the page first loads a div element that is supposed to be a css tab seems to float over it until I reload the page. When the page is reloaded the tab moves back to its static position. This only happens in IE7 by the way. Hey Guys, Hope you are all OK! I've been away abroad for a bit and now its back the the manic life here Has anyone got any good examples of creating pretty tables using CSS? I am ideally looking to to something that maybe has alternate colors on Columns and rows and changing colors where they cross?>!? or something equally as good for looking at data! Any links to examples would be great! Charlie Hi, how can I draw these borders to a table using css? Thank you! I am curious how important it is to use CSS for tables these days? I am a more of a PHP developer but have been using HTML tables for my applications since I don't do anything fancy on the front-end. I am asking because I am planning to start work on an open source project. While the project itself is intended to be used inhouse for companies and not on the Internet, it would still be nice to know if CSS or HTML tables could affect it in positive or negative ways. Thanks. Hello everybody, I am new to the forum and also a newbie to webdesign! I am hoping that somebody wants to help me out as I am trying to put the design of a table and the font used in CSS. I am trying to create a new table class out of: <table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" width="100%" class="tekst6" bgcolor="#E6373D"> (tekst6 = FONT-WEIGHT: bold; FONT-SIZE: 13px; COLOR: #ffffff; ) How do I do this? Many many thanks in advance for your help! Regards Buzzman Hello all, I have a site which I am working on right now and there is going to be text on the right side, and 3 rows on the right which on the top there will be a page banner, on bottom, just a picture, and i want to repeat the background colors on the other side. Kind of confusing to explain but he brandyn.garlic.com/headstart/aboutus.html Thats a page on the site, as you can see, there is a blank spot where I want a background to repeat but the size will obviously vary by the size of the content on the right. If someone could assist me with that, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Brandyn I am looking for advice on replacing a table layout (for form layout) with a CSS design. The purpose is to put together a PHP class that auto-generates forms so that the structure of the forms, is under control of an admin interface though an API. The problem is, that many of the clients that I do work for are very particular about the layout. In other words city, state and zip code must all be on one line, but phone number must have a row to itself, etc., etc.. The form must look exactly like the paper version. Generating a good looking form through an API using a table layout where i have to worry about column spans and so forth, is not something I am looking forward to. I would like to use a CSS layout instead. What is the best way to coax divs to work in the same way table cells and rows do and still deal with any goofy IE CSS quirks? Hi I would like to replace the tables that make up my page with CSS. I have a header, footer, left column and the main body. Do you know of a link to a tutorial that can help. Or perhaps you know the CSS code. Any pointers gratefully received.. Hi, I always used tables for my layout but want to change that to CSS. Problem is, I don't know how to get started thinking of the layout in css. I mostly make my pages centered with tables, can I do this with CSS? Does CSS use absolute position ? I was making a site with tables, but want to change that to CSS Know of any good tutorials (for people who used tables before) greets Hello. I'm currently tweaking the layout of one of the websites I run. Every page on the site consists of a series of side boxes on the left and main content on the right and currently this divide is created though tables. I'm trying to replace the old tablular layout with a series of divs which are positioned with CSS. Below the header of my page is a content div, which contains two other divs, left and right. The rest of the site content resides in seperate divs in either the left or right div. I've managed to position the left div on the left hand side of the page and the right div on the right. However, the text in the right div is longer than the content in the left div and I'm finding that once the content on the left has finished, the content on the right is filling the whole of the page beneath it, when I actually want it to stay on the right and just leave the remainder of the left hand side blank. I've been trying to fix this for a while now and haven't managed to do so yet so I'm hoping someone here might be able to offer some suggestions. I've put up a sample page of the layout at http://www.mybb-emods.com/new/index.htm. Similarly, the CSS code I'm using is located at http://www.mybb-emods.com/new/stylesheet.css. If anyone could help me, I would really appreciate some advice. I've a feeling there's a really simple solution here, but I certainly haven't managed to find it yet. After discovering Css and finally understand it...(still need to get better) I have to ask, when is it good to use a table? what are their main function ? is there things you can do with a table that cannot be done with css? thanks. |
