CSS - Why Is Image Overlapping Text
I have a problem, completed a simple website for a client but now they tell me that the image on the page is overlapping text on right, for some reason I cannot see that I see it working, can someone please have a look at http://www.woodenitbenicecfw.com and tell me if you see the overlapping and why it might be happening.
Thanks Tim Similar TutorialsCan't figure this one out... I'm building my personal site. On one of the pages, I'm making a "timeline" of my life, if you will. It's the page I'm having trouble with and is located here. If you look at the 3rd entry (December 12, 1978), you can see in both FF and IE where the text is overlapping. It seems that is the entry is short enough everything is fine, but if it's too long, it does what you see. CSS file is here I'd post the part I thought was relevant here, but since I don't think the obvious spot is the problem (my suspicion is that the problem is elsewhere in the file), you might need the whole thing. I'd appreciate any help, folks. Thanks! Chris I'm a little new to the use of css for layouts and had a few little problems on the way. The major problem I haven't been able to solve can be seen in the following 2 pictures. From what I have read before IE misinterrupts the box idea a bit so it might be the fact that IE is just showing it up wrong giving me false hope. IE - URL Netscape - URL I want to have the div have a minimum height as I state in the stylesheet, and then the div will stretch to the height of the text if that is higher than the minimum height. The code I have comes out the way I wish it to in IE but in Netscape and Firefox, the background color stays to the div height given, but the text overflows. I have tried playing with the overflow options but this did not seem to work. I have a feeling it is just a simple solution but I may be far off with the way it is designed with the blocks and inline, etc. I looked at a few examples and tutorials on the web and this is what I have come up with. The actual website of this has lots more content but I am trying to not make it too complicated and then I will apply it to the site. Any help would be greatly appreciated. How do I make 'plus.gif' to be left or right to the text? Hey New to the site, I thought it would be a good place to ask a question or two... I am trying to have a repeating background as well as an overlapping body image at the top. I keep failing, I can only get one or the other working. Here is the only part I know works 100% Code: <style type="text/css"> body { margin:0px; 0px; 0px; 0px; background: url(images/topbg1.png) no-repeat 50% 0%; min-height:106px; position:relative; } </style> Any help you can give I would greatly appreciate, thanks... Hi all, I'm working on a header which I'm having trouble with. Here's a crude diagram of what I'm looking to accomplish: Code: ____________ _______________________| |___ | _____________________| Logo |_ | | | |___________| | | | | Banner | | | |___________________________________| | | | | | <-- container div Uhhh, hopefully you can see what I'm getting at! I want a logo to be positioned on top of the banner image, but offset above and to the right, outside the container div holding the banner. Note also that the container div is centered in the page, so that the relative amount of space on either side of the container div increases and decreases with the browser window. Approaches I've tried: (1) Use position:absolute for the logo. The problem here is the horizontal position. Regardless of what I've tried, the logo moves horizontally with the size of the window. I want the logo fixed relative to the container div. (2) I've tried to use negative margins and place the logo inside the container div, but this doesn't seem to work either. How should I do this? All suggestions welcome. Thanks! Hi Everyone, I'm having a problem with IE rendering correctly. I'm experimenting with using all div's in my pages now, and I'm not very familiar with the quirks of IE. I have created a sample page, and I'm really confused as to what is going on in IE. FF renders the page exactly as I expect. IE renders the page with everything in the correct location, but it seems to double the background image for a sub-div section that is moved up using a negative margin (#menu { ... margin-top: -200px; ... }). Also, this "duplicate background" seems to "flicker" on and off in certain areas, but part of it is always there. (I think there may be more than one duplicate?) To view what's happening, check it out in FF, and then in IE: example.com/HTML example.com/CSS I have very little code, and I'm not sure what is the relevant part: CSS: Code: .logo_banner { background-image:url(../images/new/logo_web1.png); background-repeat:no-repeat; background-position:left top; height:188px; } .spacer { height:10px; } .spacer_10px { height:10px; } .spacer_40px { height:40px; } .spacer_50px { height:50px; } .spacer_separator { height:1px; background-image:url(../images/bg_separator.png); background-repeat:repeat-x; background-position:center top; } #menu { height:50px; margin-left:200px; margin-top:-80px; } #home_btn { background-image:url(../images/new/home_btn_web.png); background-repeat:no-repeat; background-position:left; height:50px; } #home1_btn { background-image:url(../images/new/home_btn_web.png); background-repeat:no-repeat; background-position:left; height:50px; margin-left:120px; margin-top:-50px; } #home2_btn { background-image:url(../images/new/home_btn_web.png); background-repeat:no-repeat; background-position:left; height:50px; margin-left:240px; margin-top:-50px; } #home3_btn { background-image:url(../images/new/home_btn_web.png); background-repeat:no-repeat; background-position:left; height:50px; margin-left:360px; margin-top:-50px; } #home4_btn { background-image:url(../images/new/home_btn_web.png); background-repeat:no-repeat; background-position:left; height:50px; margin-left:480px; margin-top:-50px; } .spacer_dotted_line { background-image:url(../images/new/dotted_line.png); background-repeat:repeat-x; width:860px; height:2px; margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto; } .div_body_top { background-image:url(../images/backgrounds/bg_dark_body_top1.png); width:900px; height:20px; background-repeat:no-repeat; } .div_body_middle { background-image:url(../images/backgrounds/bg_dark_body_middle1.png); height:auto; background-repeat:repeat-y; padding-left:20px; padding-right:20px; } .div_body_bottom { background-image:url(../images/backgrounds/bg_dark_body_bottom1.png); width:900px; height:20px; background-repeat:no-repeat; } .footer_bar { background-color:#2B2D20; height:60px; text-align:center; } .footer_text { font-family:Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:10px; color:#FFFFFF; line-height:60px;} .text_style_body { text-align:left; font-family:Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color:#CECECE; font-size:10px; } .content_body { height:auto; width:900px; margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto; } .text_area { padding-top:10px; padding-left:20px; padding-right:20px; padding-bottom:20px; width:860px; margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto; } And here is the HTML: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Test Page 1</title> <link href="styles/style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> </head> <body> <div id="container"> <div class="content_body"> <div class="div_body_top"></div> <div class="div_body_middle"> <div class="logo_banner"></div> <div id="menu"> <div id="home_btn"></div> <div id="home1_btn"></div> <div id="home2_btn"></div> <div id="home3_btn"></div> <div id="home4_btn"></div> </div> <div class="spacer_10px"></div> <div class="spacer_dotted_line"></div> <div class="spacer_40px"></div> <div class="text_style_body"> Here is some content. This will probably make more sense if you try the code below with an appropriate image. I can get around this problem by using table formatting, but I am trying to learn a CSS alternative. Here is the code. Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" > <head> <title>Untitled Page</title> </head> <body> <p>Hello</p> <ul> <li>List 1</li> <li>List 2</li> <li>List 3</li> </ul> <img src="http://www.selestial.com/resources/image2.jpg" alt="any old image" style="float:left;"/> <p>Hello</p> <ul> <li>List 1</li> <li>List 2</li> <li>List 3</li> </ul> <p>Hello</p> <ul> <li>List 1</li> <li>List 2</li> <li>List 3</li> </ul> </body> </html> Good Morning All, Been having a slight problem with the visual in the screenshot below. The blue line is our H2, and the purple one is our H3, however, as you can see, the underline spans the entire width of the column, not just underneith the text, which is our requirement. ***As i am not allowed to upload a url as a new user, the underline is as follows. With the text centre aligned. text ----------------------------------------------------------- rather than text ------ and obviously by the css, the underline on the headers is a small image, repeated - x. Please see relevant css information. * (line 23) { margin-top: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-left: 0pt; padding-top: 0pt; padding-right: 0pt; padding-bottom: 0pt; padding-left: 0pt; } h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 (line 101) { font-size: 1.2em; font-weight: normal; padding-bottom: 4px; margin-top: 0.6em; margin-right: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0.8em; margin-left: 0pt; text-align: center; } .contentArea h2, #secondaryNavigation h2 (line 114) { background-color: transparent; background-image: url("../images/h2_gradient_bg.gif"); background-repeat: repeat-x; background-attachment: scroll; background-position: left bottom; color: #0066cc; } Many Thanks in advance. Marc. Hi. See code below. Why does the outer SPAN in TABLE not grow with the image height. If the text is longer so it is forced below image then it looks as it should. Please also read some comments in the code. Code: <html><body><center><br><br> Why does image not force the outermost span to be at least as high as image?<br> If the text are long enough and gets below the bottom border of image it look good though.<br><br> NOTE: I need to put Image and text either within separate span or in same span as the examples below.<br> In my real application I'm using an <a href=" ...> around the outer span in examples below.<br> <br><br> <table border=1 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 width=200px><tr><td> <span style="display:block; background-color:#ffa827; padding-top:10px; padding-left:10px; padding-right:10px;"> <span style="display:block; float:left"> <img src="landscape.jpg" height="40px" width="40px" alt="" border="0"> </span> <span style="display: block; color: white;"> Text here. </span> </span> </td></tr></table> <br><br> <table border=1 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 width=200px><tr><td> <span style="display:block; background-color:#ffa827; padding-top:10px; padding-left:10px; padding-right:10px; color: white;"> <img src="landscape.jpg" height="40px" width="40px" alt="" border="0" style="float:left"> Text here. </span> </td></tr></table> </center></body></html> Hi. Really hoping someone can help me with this... I'll try and explain this as best I can(!) Basically I've got a page containing a block of 9 images, with each linking to a video clip. At the moment I've got the CSS coded so that whenever the mouse is hovered over the 'infobar' (at the bottom of each image) it goes from having a transparent background with black text to having a grey background with white text. What I'm trying to achieve is that same effect whenever the mouse is hovered over any part of the image and infobar. The live online link can be found at: www.markmcm.co.uk/test/test.html The CSS is as as follows: Code: /* * Page Stylesheet */ body { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; background-color: #eaeaea; border:0; margin:0; padding:0; height: 100%; } a:link { text-decoration: none; } a:visited { text-decoration: none; } a:hover { text-decoration: none; } a:active { text-decoration: none; } #container { margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; min-height: 100%; width: 936px; } * html #container { height: 100%; } #content { float:left; position: relative; height: 528px; width: 936px; z-index: 0; } .miniscreen1, .miniscreen2, .miniscreen3, .miniscreen4, .miniscreen5, .miniscreen6, .miniscreen7, .miniscreen8, .miniscreen9 { position: absolute; float: left; display: block; width: 312px; height: 176px; } .miniscreen1 { top: 0; left: 0; } .miniscreen2 { top:0; left: 312px; } .miniscreen3 { top: 0; left: 624px; } .miniscreen4 { left: 0; top:176px; } .miniscreen5 { left: 312px; top:176px; } .miniscreen6 { left: 624px; top:176px; } .miniscreen7 { left: 0; top:352px; } .miniscreen8 { left: 312px; top:352px; } .miniscreen9 { left: 624px; top:352px; } .info { height: 30px; top:3px; left: 40px; width: 265px; float: left; position: absolute; } .infobar { left:0px; position: absolute; top: 140px; width: 312px; height: 36px; outline: none; color:#000; background: url("data/infobar.png") no-repeat 0 0; z-index: 650; } .infobar:hover { background-position: 0 -36px; outline: none; color:#fff; } #infobar span { display: none; outline: none; } .clip_title { outline: none; font-size: 85%; font-weight: 700; vertical-align: top; text-align: left; } .clip_sub { outline: none; height: 13px; font-size: 80%; line-height: 13px; font-weight: 700; vertical-align: top; text-align: left; } And the HTML is: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Test Page</title> <meta name="description" content=" " /> <meta name="keywords" content=" " /> <meta name="generator" content=" " /> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="page.css" media="screen" /> </head> <body> <div id="container"> <div id="content"> <span class="miniscreen1"> <a href="#"> <img src="img/clip1.jpg" width="312" height="176" border="0"> <span class="infobar"><span class="info clip_title">Test Clip 1<br><span class="clip_sub">123 Productions</span></span></span></a> </span></span> <span class="miniscreen2"> <a href="#"><img src="img/clip2.jpg" width="312" height="176" border="0"> <span class="infobar"><span class="info clip_title">Test Clip 2<br><span class="clip_sub">123 Productions</span></span></span></a> </span></span> <span class="miniscreen3"> <a href="#"><img src="img/clip3.jpg" width="312" height="176" border="0"> <span class="infobar"><span class="info clip_title">Test Clip 3<br><span class="clip_sub">123 Productions</span></span></span></a> </span></span> <span class="miniscreen4"> <a href="#"><img src="img/clip4.jpg" width="312" height="176" border="0"> <span class="infobar"><span class="info clip_title">Test Clip 4<br><span class="clip_sub">123 Productions</span></span></span></a> </span></span> <span class="miniscreen5"> <a href="#"><img src="img/clip5.jpg" width="312" height="176" border="0"> <span class="infobar"><span class="info clip_title">Test Clip 5<br><span class="clip_sub">123 Productions</span></span></span></a> </span></span> <span class="miniscreen6"> <a href="#"><img src="img/clip6.jpg" width="312" height="176" border="0"> <span class="infobar"><span class="info clip_title">Test Clip 6<br><span class="clip_sub">123 Productions</span></span></span></a> </span></span> <span class="miniscreen7"> <a href="#"><img src="img/clip7.jpg" width="312" height="176" border="0"> <span class="infobar"><span class="info clip_title">Test Clip 7<br><span class="clip_sub">123 Productions</span></span></span></a> </span></span> <span class="miniscreen8"> <a href="#"><img src="img/clip8.jpg" width="312" height="176" border="0"> <span class="infobar"><span class="info clip_title">Test Clip 8<br><span class="clip_sub">123 Productions</span></span></span></a> </span></span> <span class="miniscreen9"> <a href="#"><img src="img/clip9.jpg" width="312" height="176" border="0"> <span class="infobar"><span class="info clip_title">Test Clip 9<br><span class="clip_sub">123 Productions</span></span></span></a> </span></span> </div> </div> </body> </html> There must be a better (and easier?) way to do this. Any help would be very-much appreciated - and save an old bloke from tearing too much of his hair out(!) Hi I am redesigning my blog and took it down completely. I want to place the day's text post on the day's photo post on top of the latter, while graying out the photo. Is that possible without using flash? Figured this was simple, but I can't seem to figure it out. Using CSS, I want to put an image on the left with text to the right aligned to the bottom. I could easily do this with a table, but I'd like to find a CSS way. With CSS like: .imginfo {float:none;clear:both;margin-top:1em;} .imginfo img {float:left;margin-right:1em;} and code like: Code: <div class="imginfo"> <img src="..." /> Line of Text<br /> Line of Text<br /> Line of Text<br /> </div> I get the image on the left and the text on the right, but, the text starts at the top of the image. I want it to end up aligned to the bottom of the image. Attempting to use vertical-align: bottom doesn't do anything with the text. The effect I am looking for is like below. If you assume the XXX are the image... Code: XXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXX Line of Text XXXXXXXXXXXX Line of Text XXXXXXXXXXXX Line of Text I am trying to put labels below images on my new site design. See: www.jwsuretybonds*com/jw09 I figured out how to get them vertically aligned, but I am having problems with the horizontal, as when I change the browser size, they move. Here is one of the examples: Code: #homepage-bar h2.construction { position:fixed; top:225px; left:505px; } I tried changing to position: absolute; I also tried to use percentages on the left: I know this is easy, but I can't find the fix after googling for 30 minutes. Help! Hello. So I have this situation (on the right): h t t p : / / img339.imageshack.us/img339/6958/1stb.png and when I change my browser resolution, I get this (on the right): h t t p : / / img35.imageshack.us/img35/3892/2ndhw.png Is it possible to do that the image wouldn't change the place on a screen even you when change the resolution of the browser? And yes, the image must be behind the text. Thanks in advance for any suggestions and tips. New construction of a website. I've had no issue with any css. As soon as I started to put in my blog (Wordpress), I realized that changing a would effect other tags that were no encased in this . I dismissed as a flaw in my code that wasn't working correctly with the Wordpress theme. However, now I'm have the same issue with an RSS reader. The code works perfectly in IE9 and Chrome v7. But, it doesn't work in Firefox. http://www.imzac.com/truf.php http://www.imzac.com/common/master.css In the recent post section, you see my heading is larger and has a different weight. This is the only tag that code has allotted for these properties. However, it effects the "Continue Reading" and the link at the footer of my page. Again, no issues in IE9 and Chrome v7. Here's the RSS feed script. What's you're looking for is about halfway down and then near the end. It's the <title> lines. CSS Code: #imgmenu {position:relative; top:0px; left:0px; width: auto; background-color: #FFFFFF; border:solid 1px #FFFFFF} #imgmenu .p1 {display:block; width: auto; height: auto; text-decoration:none; background: #FFFFFF; top:0; left:0; border:0;} #imgmenu .p1:hover {text-decoration:none; background-color: #FFFFFF; color:#000;} #imgmenu .large { display:block; position:absolute; width:0; height:0; border:0; top:0; left:0; z-index: 601; visibility: visible; } #imgmenu .p1:hover .large {display:block; position:absolute; top:-85px; left:50px; width: auto; height: auto; border:3px solid #FFFFFF;} #info {z-index:500; height:22em;} HTML Code: <td><div id="imgmenu"> <a class="p1" href="#nogo" title="thumbnail image"><img src="/emma/photography/babies/Ralph3.jpg" alt="Thumbnail image" border="0" title="Thumbnail image" / ><img src="babies/big/Ralph3.jpg" alt="Enlarged view of image" name="info" class="large" id="info" title="Enlarged view of image" /></a> </div> </td> Please Help http://www.mrossana.com/eesdvr/ The main thing that I am worried about here is in the header. The header looks exactly the way I want it to in Firefox (Mac and PC) and Safari (Mac), but, in Internet Explorer, the "headerborder" div overlaps the ul menu in the "header" div. The "header" ul comes before the "headerborder" div in the code, so, with the negative top marging, the "headerborder" div should be behind the ul menu. Any ideas on how to fix this in IE? Do I have to add some z-index values? Or is there a better way to do this layout? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. |
