CSS - Footer Issues In Firefox
Similar TutorialsOkay I've gotten to a point in my design where I'm a bit stumped. I have been working on a three column layout with a fixed header and footer. The entire idea behind the fixed footer is so that my entire promotional press kit and social networks will be available and in view in the footer above the fold at all times for easy access. After a few little tweaks the layout looks good and turned out nicely. However, now I am adding content and navigation and I am having some issues with regards to how it is reacting when my browser window is re-sized and the layout of the far left navigation. Okay so when I shrink the browser window two things happen, I get a horizontal scroll, which isn't too bad, I mean that is normal in a lot of sites but because the footer and header are fixed it looks a little weird. Is there a way to stop this without going fluid? The other thing it does when it is shrunk, the background image in the footer shifts to the right along with the navigation which should not happen if it is fixed right? What is could be causing that? If I have nested div inside the footer div does it need to be declared fixed too or can it be relative because it is a child of the footer? The biggest problem is that my navigation menu on the left will have four links. I would like two links above and two links below. I would like the top left and bottom left to align to the left with space between those two links and the top right and bottom right, which will also align left. How would I accomplish this using the least amount of mark up in the xhtml and the least amount of code in css? Right now they aren't links, I'm just trying to lay it first. What I was thinking, was using a div to hold a footer ul and li class? Would I just apply the class to each link or would I apply the class to two, one div class above holding two links and one div class below or do I even need an extra footer div anyway if I'll be assigning separate classes? I'm confused as to the best way to fix all this, your help would be appreciated, the xhtml validates and so does the css. Here is the link to the testing site: http://www.lonniebruhn.com/sitelab/ I am quite new to css and have stumbled my way through making a page. My issue is the footer. My footer contains a background image that repeats across the page. In order to make the footer stick to the bottom I have placed it in a container. My issue is, when the page is minimized and you scroll over the right of the page, the menu that is on the bottom is on the right but the background image does not extend behind it. Within this centre column, I am trying to place a header and footer. The CSS is working quite well with the exception that the header and footer seem to be shorter than the width of the main column. In other words, there seems to be a margin on the right and left side between the end of the footer/header and main column. I am not sure what is going on as I have made the widths the same. I am sure I am over-seeing something small. I was following the example found http://www.pmob.co.uk/temp/1colcentred.htm Code: html{height:100%;} body { padding:0; margin:0; height:100%; background-color: #98AFC7; color: #000000; } #outer{ min-height:100%; width:800px; background:pink; color: #000000; margin:auto; text-align:left; position:relative; } * html #outer{height:100%} #header { border-top:1px solid #000; border-bottom:1px solid #000; background:blue; left:-1px; width:800px; height:40px; overflow:hidden; color: #000000; z-index:100; //margin-left:6px; //margin-right:6px; } #footer { position:absolute; bottom:0; left:0; background:green; height:40px; border-top:1px solid #000; width:800px; //margin-left:1%; //margin-right:1%; } #clearfooter{clear:both;height:40px;}/*needed to make room for footer*/ <body> <div id="outer"> <div id="header">Header</div> <p>middle</p> <p>middle</p> <div id="clearfooter"></div> <div id="footer">Footer</div> </div> </body> </html> Hi all, Been playing about with some CSS for a simple e-comm site. Mockup here. There seems to be a few issues though between IE/FF. Thats all I've been able to test on so far though. The site validates properly as far as I can tell so that doesn't seem to be a problem. In Firefox, the left hand bottom sidebox overflows the page (the footer doesn't go below it). In IE it seems to be fine. In IE, the padding on the right hand side of the main content header box is not the same as the left side. Also, the main left bullet list is royally arsed up. At the moment, I can't spot any more issues than that. As I continue development and start to add more features, then I will probably crop up with more issues. The HTML for the site is here. The CSS for the site is here. Suggestions on how to fix it would be much appreciated. Cheers, Computer Hey, I have just about finished this website here except for the footer issue in Internet Explorer. My main issue is that I'm limited to a Macbook Pro right now, I have VM Fusion but haven't been able to use my external harddrive with my virtual machine on it and have no other way to test in IE. Browsershots has it's limitations, haha. Anyway, it displays fine in WebKit and Firefox, but internet explorer is being real finnicky. If I have to I can resort to calling in a modified footer strictly for IE, but then I have to go design a footer for it down at the library so i can use on of their computers to test it. Thought I'd try posting a question here and see if anyone could spot something in my CSS that may not be working with IE. Thanks in advance, really appreciated. The link is http://www.laserbodysculpting.ca/beta/ The screenshots in IE are MSIE7.0 and IE6.0 . I'm using the following DIV structure. (http://pastebin.com/meef27b4) Code: <div id="footer"> <div id="fcont"> <div id="f1" class="fwrap"><h2>Newsletter</h2> ... </div> <div id="f2" class="fwrap"><h2>Map</h2> ... </div> <div id="f3" class="fwrap"><h2>Contact</h2> ... </div> </div> <div id="minifooter"> ... </div> </body> </html> Here is the CSS Code: #footer { width: 100%; height: 270px; position: static; clear:both; text-align: center; border-top:solid 1px #414243; background:#9a9a9a; letter-spacing: 0.2em; filter:alpha(opacity=90); -moz-opacity:0.9; -khtml-opacity: 0.9; opacity: 0.9; } #footer h2{ font-size: 15px; color: #414243; padding:0 0 .5em .1em; } .info { color:#fff; } .map { border: 1px #414242 solid; margin: 2px; } #footer h3{ font-size:10px; padding:0 0 .5em 0; letter-spacing:5px; color:#414243; font-weight:bold; } #fcont { width:100%; margin-left:200px; overflow:auto; } #minifooter { clear:both; width: 100%; height: 15px; padding-bottom:10px; border-top:solid 1px #000; background:#414243; color: #fff; letter-spacing: 0.2em; } #minifooter a:hover { color:#fff; } #f1 { display: inline; float:left; text-align: left; position: relative; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-top: 10px; width: 300px; } #f2 { display: inline; text-align: left; float:left; position: relative; margin-top: 10px; width: 300px; } #f3 { display: inline; text-align: left; float:left; position: relative; width: 300px; margin-top: 10px; } I have a css file which looks good enough in internet explorer 6 but when i check it in firefox the footer box goes to the top of the page and the footer links go to the right column box. Where am I going wrong with this? Can anyone please point me in teh right direction please? Here is the css:- Code: body { background-color: #4A4237; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: center; background-image:url(../../../My Pictures/page_background.gif); } * { margin: 0px; padding: 0px; } html {height:100%; margin-bottom:1px;} #wrapper { width: 700px; margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; background-repeat: repeat-y; text-align: left; background-color: #FFFFFF; } #nav { background-color: #775d42; padding-top: 10px; padding-bottom: 5px; padding-left: 15px; } #navlist li { display: inline; list-style-type: none; padding-right: 20px; text-transform: capitalize; } #navlist a { text-decoration: none; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 15px; font-weight: bolder; } #navlist a:hover { color: #AF9981; } #col1 { float: left; width: 500px; } #col2 { float: left; width: 200px; } #col1content p { margin-bottom: 10px; color: #666666; font-size: 12px; line-height: 140%; text-align: justify; } #col1content { padding: 0px 15px 15px; } .footer { BORDER-TOP: #a4d0ed 2px solid; FONT-SIZE: 10px; PADDING-BOTTOM: 20px; WIDTH: 700px; COLOR: #707070; PADDING-TOP: 10px; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #333333; TEXT-ALIGN: center; height: 60px; } .footer A:link { COLOR: #9ebd18; TEXT-DECORATION: none } .footer A:visited { COLOR: #9ebd18; TEXT-DECORATION: none } .footer A:hover { COLOR: #a5cfeb; TEXT-DECORATION: underline } .footer A:hover { COLOR: #a5cfeb; TEXT-DECORATION: underline } #col2content { padding: 15px; text-align: center; } .imageborder { padding: 5px; border: 1px solid #3A4A14; background-color: #F2F3F4; } .subhead { font-size: 11px; color: #78442C; margin-top: 5px; margin-bottom: 5px; } .sidebar { margin-bottom: 10px; color: #666666; font-size: 10px; line-height: 140%; } h1 { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 36px; color: #DAD6CF; padding-top: 10px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 15px; } h2 { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px; color: #B4AA9E; padding-top: 10px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 15px; } h3 { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px; color: #B4AA9E; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-top: 5px; } #footer p { color: #EEEBE8; font-size: 9px; padding-top: 2px; padding-bottom: 3px; padding-left: 15px; } a:link { color:#0059b4; text-decoration: none; } a:visited { color:#0059b4; text-decoration: none; } a:hover { color:#0059b4; text-decoration: underline; } a:active { color:#0059b4;} If anyone can help me it would be very much appreciated as i am absolutely puzzled. I am not sure if i have put something wrong in the footer or if it is the wrapper. Thanks in advance On the front page of my site, I have a footer that seems to slide into the left column if there is not enough content (In FireFox). I've tried to use style="clear:both" just before the footer begins, but to no avail. Any idea what is going on here? http://www.hawaiipca.net/ (the aren't affected, just the front page) Hello everyone I have a problem with keeping a footer at the bottom of a page. It hovers over other elements in Firefox 3.6.6 Also I'd like to have the footer at the right side and not centered. If I define "right" however, part of it disappears in IE. The style sheet is no from me. I would appreciate, if someone were kind enough to have a look and help me. } http://www.pearl.ru/isdunyasi/vnewsall.asp Everything appears right with Firefox and Safari. Footer floats right with IE. Can anyone tell why. Thanks. Using my http://www.thatspotonline.com as an example I'll explain my problem. I'm trying to use a 3 column fluid layout with a header and a footer. I've gotten past the browser problem with IE and now face a new problem with proper display in firefox. With the included css and attached xhtml layout I end up with a rather large gap on the bottom of the design without adding quite a bit of content to make the page length grow. I've tested with about everything else and this problem doesn't show up. I would gladly take some advise if anyone has any thanks. The menu on the left is most of the times longer then the right content part. Is there a way to fix that when this occurs I can make the right part move along without editing every page and hitting enter 20 times? Thnx Hi CSS gurus, I am a bit stuck with the presentation issues I currently have with my website, http://www.tophatweddings.co.uk. Compare the site layout in IE (6 not 7) and look at it in Firefox. In Firefox you'll notice the borders and backgrounds are not displaying correctly. This is what I want to fix. Has anyone got any suggestions for how I can adjust my CSS to make it display properly in Firefox? Please help I have a div in my header that contains an image. The height of the image is 82px. For some reason in firefox (and chrome too) if I don't set the div height to 125px it gets cut off. It looks OK in IE6 without the height set, but with it set as needed for firefox it then creates a space in IE. My header file has: Code: <div id= "logo" ><img src = "images/logo_LWV.gif"></div> <div id = "topNav"> <div id = "topNavMenu"> <a class = "top" href="index.php">Home</a> <a class = "top" href="about.php">About Us</a> <a class = "top" href="join.php">Join</a> <a class = "top" href="funds.php">Special Funds</a> <a class = "top" href="contact.php">Contact</a> </div> <!-- end topNavMenu --> </div> <!-- end topNav --> </div> <!-- end topBar --> <div id = "imagebar"><img src = "images/lwvCorvallis.jpg"></div> <div id = "greenbar"> <div id = "pagetitle"> <p>Title</p> </div><!-- end pagetitle --> </div> <!-- end greebar --> and the css is: Code: #topbar { dispaly:block; width: 800px; } #logo { float:left; } #topNav { float:right; width: 612px; height: 65px; background-color:#cc0033; } #topNavMenu { position:relative; top:40px; text-align:left; color: white; } #imagebar { display:block; width: 800px; height:125px; } #greenbar { display:block; width: 800px; height: 90px; background: url(images/greenbar.jpg); background-repeat: no-repeat; z-index: 0; } #pagetitle { position:relative; left: 200px;top:25px; width: 600px; color: white; z-index: 1; } The site is he http://www.lwv.corvallis.or.us/ What's going on? Screw it. Why do the margin-top values on these layers DO NOTHING in firefox, but act as expected in IE? Which way is actually correct? Also, if I add a float:left to the blue layer, firefox adds a margin-top to the blue and green layers only? This seems very wrong.. How can I get the expected margin-top on each layer? Code: <BODY style="background-color:yellow;"> <div id='blue' style="width:250px; height:250px; display:block; margin-left:1px; margin-top:10px; background-color:blue; position:relative;"> <div id='green' style='width:220px; height:200px; margin-top:10px; background-color:green; display:block; position:relative;'> <!--- prod selector box ---> <div id='gray' style='width:200px; height:150px; overflow:auto; margin-top:10px; margin-left:4px; display:block; background-color:gray; position:relative;'> asdf </div> </div> </div> </BODY> First Issue In this site the Left Navigation top and bottom spacing is somewhat off. First head over to this page: http://www.pricedigital.com/ejs//ad...weight-loss.htm In firefox the navigation ends up being a tad too low, but the way it looks in ie6 and ie7 is how I want it to look in firefox. Any suggestions? This all takes place in sidebar1 Next Issue How do I center an image using just css? Final Issue In IE6 the floated right photos on a few of these pages do not show up correctly. Here is one for example: http://www.pricedigital.com/ejs//ad...lds-pallant.htm How can I go about fixing this? http://www.beckin.com http://www.bestdropshipper.net I just recently updated my firefox to the most available version. This firefox version absolutely sux. I don't know why all these browsers have to keep causing trouble for designers. You will notice that my css style for Beckin Designs no longer works. Code: <style type="text/css"> @font-face { font-family: English; font-weight: normal; src: url(fonts/English_.ttf); } </style> If you view this site in other browsers or the firefox version previous to the latest release you will notice it displays fine. However, not in the new firefox. Next, the best dropshipper menu doesn't display correctly either. How can I go about fixing these issues? Do I need to do some time of if statement. Please let me know exactly how to address these issues. Thanks!! sean.dynahosting.net/wordpress ^if you open this in firefox, It is almost exactly how I want, but when you open it in ie, all sorts of troubles arise. Most importantly, the meat of the page (everything except the header and footer) are not centered, and are not 60% of the page, like this: .basic{ font-family: courier new, courier, monotype; font-size: 11px; width: 60%; margin-left: 20%; } says. How much more simply can I put it? Is there anything I can do to fix this, or if not, is there anyway to get browser specific with css? |
