CSS - Why Doesn't My Container Cover The Two Div's Inside It?
I am trying to get the blue box (which is the content container) to be big enough to cover both divs "cbox1" and "cbox2". Right now it only covers the <h1> title and neither of the cboxs. I also need these two cbox's to be side by side instead of on top of or below each other. I can achieve one of these at a time but not both when I play around with the float values of the cbox's.
I would appreciate any help at getting the results I desire. Thanks. Here is the basic html I am working with. Code: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <style media="screen" type="text/css"> #content { margin:0px; padding:0px; background-color:#90C0FF; } #cbox1 { border-radius:15px; border: 2px solid #000000; width:250px; background-color:#FFFFFF; padding:20px; float:left; } #cbox2 { border-radius:15px; border: 2px solid #000000; width:200px; background-color:#FFFFFF; padding:20px; margin-left:10px; float:left; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="content"> <h2>LOREM IPSUM:</h2> <div id="cbox1"> "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. I have 2 containers, one inside the other. If the inside container grows I want the outside container to grow with it. Is that possible? Here is what I have so far... datacontainer is not growing when piccontainer grows. HTML: Code: <body> <div id="datacontainer"> <div id="piccontainer"><img src="../../My Pictures/Copy of PiercedDesktop51024x768.jpg" alt="" /></div> Data</div> </body> CSS: Code: body { background-color: #000000; margin-top: 0px; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; background-position: top left; background-repeat: repeat-y; background-image: url('VSADImages/Border.jpg'); } #datacontainer { margin: 0; padding: 0px; border-style: solid; border-color: yellow; background-color: #00FFFF; border-width: 2px; height: auto; } #piccontainer { float: left; width:700px; margin: 0; border-style: solid; border-color: green; background-color: #FF6600; border-width: 2px; } Hi, I have 3 div boxes in a container, they sit side by side (i.e. 3 in a row) with different amounts of text in each div. The dilemma is that I need all the div's to be the same height as the tallest div. can someone tell me how to do this? thanks Iv got my boxes sorted!!! but im quite newbie to CSS layout and stuff... so i want to put two boxes in side my container box side by side. i decided to use float... but they float outside my container box, which i suppose is what they are supposed to do. This is what im trying to achieve. Code: ---------------------------------------------------- | --------------------- --------------------- | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Float Left | | Float right | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | --------------------- --------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- Hi, the new Drupal site I've developed is artemis2taste (dot) gr for an ice cream shop in Greece - The site loads fine in Firefox, Chrome and Opera but not in Internet Explorer (versions 6,7,8). I would appreciate it if you could visit my website and take a look at my css. The main content area is divided in two columns by the "composite layout" module. The "last" column (the one on the right) contains collections of images for each one of the site's pages. I've used a jQuery script to make a slideshow with simple next/previous buttons for the photos that appear there. The problem is I tried so many combinations of floats, padding, margins, inline etc for the right column and the photos keep stacking one below the other (you can only see a small part of the second image, as I have a fixed height for the container div), also hiding the slideshow navigation links. I can't find a way to make these images appear on the same horizontal direction... I would really appreciate suggestions on how to solve this issue... Thanx in advance I'm pretty new to using CSS so please be gentle I'm trying to hack (develop is to lofty a word at this point) this tableless page and get the bg image to stick to the right/top corner of the "content" div. IE6 renders it pretty well but Firefox (my preferred browser) is horrendous. The image size is 400x392. Any thoughts or a good reference on this would be greaty appreciated. <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta name="generator" content="http://www.inknoise.com/experimental/layoutomatic.php" /> <style type="text/css"> #container { width: 760px; width: 780px; width: 760px; border: 1px solid gray; margin: 10px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding: 10px; } #banner { padding: 5px; margin-bottom: 5px; background-color: rgb(213, 219, 225); } #content { padding: 5px; margin-left: 215px; background-color: gray; background-attachment: fixed; background-image: url(images/bg_run.jpg); background-repeat: no-repeat; height: 400px; background-position: right top; } #sidebar-a { float: left; width: 200px; \width: 210px; w\idth: 200px; margin: 0; margin-right: 5px; padding: 5px; background-color: rgb(235, 235, 235); } #footer { clear: both; padding: 5px; margin-top: 5px; background-color: rgb(213, 219, 225); } </style> </head> <body> <div id="container"> <div id="banner">Banner</div> <div id="sidebar-a">Sidebar</div> <div id="content">Content</div> <div id="footer">Footer</div> </div> </body> </html> Well I'm running into just a few difficulties trying to enclose a object inside of another container. The problem is that the container does not repeat the background when I lengthen the boxes within it. Can someone with a excellent CSS eye take a look at this and let me know what I'm doing wrong. I've played with overflow:auto; but the problem is that I need to set the width of the container at 990px, and it doesn't seem to work if I statically set the width. http://www.obelix.ca/templates/index.html Hi all, The easiest way to see the problem is to look at this demo in firefox. (I haven't patched it to work in IE yet.) The menu items in the 1st 2 menu's don't expand to fill the available area. Any ideas? I need to know what attributes to give to my container div in order for this to work correctly. I have a div and within it are many floating divs, each that contain an image thumbnail and caption. I do it this way so the images fit on the page dynamically and it works great. Unfortunately the container div does not wrap around the height of the images. This causes content that should appear below the images to show up behind them. How do I make the container div actually stretch around all the child divs? here is a code sample Code: <div style="border: 1px solid blue; width: 100%; display : inline;"> <div style="float: left; margin: 2px; Hi folks, I hope this is achieveable ... Hope you don't mind. So I'm trying to make myself a new portfolio site, but there's this 'error' I can't seem to fix... (Can't post a link in my first post, so just copy/paste "hellspike.thanez.org/newsite" in the addybar.) Basically that 150*300 infobar is supposed to be right next to the image, but it always ends up above or below the container. <!--AK47--> <div id="imgcont0"> <div id="imgcont1"><img src="images/ak47/1.jpg"></div> <div id="imgcont2"><img src="images/ak47/info.jpg"></div> </div> <!--/AK47--> imgcont0 is a 825*300 container, in which imcont1 (render) and 2 (infobar) are supposed to be. Stylesheet: #imgcont0 { width: 825px; height: 300px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; } #imgcont1 { width: 650px; } #imgcont2 { margin-left: 675px; width: 150px; } As you see the code is simple, yet I can't seem to fix this problem. Ideas? Exactly that question. I got this menu from a website. The CSS in it has nothing to do with the image. Here is the CSS in the <link> tag. Code: #showcase {background:#6f9c6f;} dl.menus_list dt {background:#6f9c6f; font-size:1.5em; margin:3px 0;} #foot {background:#8fbc8f;} dl.menus_list dd.nil {padding:0; margin:0;} I hate to say it but I'm baffled! Goal: Get all the CSS into the same file as the rest of my code. Edit: Gah kravvitz I've been watching your move through your profile and you signed off!! Gay. Well I hope someone else here can help me solve this issue I'm having... here's my site for reference. http://www.tobaccosmokeshop.com/temp.htm here's some code PHP Code: #breakfootercontainer{ clear:both; border:solid 1px red; background:url(images/navback.gif); background-repeat: repeat-y; padding:0px 0px 0px 189px; width:100%; } #footer{ border:solid 1px green; float:left; width:562px; text-align:center; } breakfootercontainer is a div that spans the whole width of my site, but pads over for my navigation bar. The problem is, In IE the container holds the footer, but in Mozilla (PC) and on my mac in safari and Mozilla the container is only like 0 px height and the footer div pops over the bottom border on the container. Here's my code I'm using. PHP Code: <div id='breakfootercontainer'> <div id='footer'> <a href='' class="mainnav">duplicate nav</a><br> <a href='' class="mainnav">duplicate nav</a><br> <a href='' class="mainnav">duplicate nav</a><br> <a href='' class="mainnav">duplicate nav</a><br> </div> </div> What is causing the container to not fill around the info inside the footer? Also, I have 2 columns(red border around field picture and welcome column and the nav with the blue border) with a container around them (big white border around both), one shorter than the other (the red border column), but I want the shorter one to go the full length of the container (white border) so my column backgrounds line up and part of the page isn't longer than the other. I want to use my footer as a cap all the way across the page. Is there any way to do this without putting <br>'s in the smaller container to fill it out? I have the following: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> <title>My page </title> <style type="text/css"> #content { width: 100%; float: left; margin-right: -1px } .content_container { clear: both; } .content_header_even, .content_header_odd { width: 100%; background-color: #69bfde; color: #595441; padding: 0.5em 0; text-indent: 1em; } .content_header_odd { background-color: #b4e8fb; } .content_graph_container { padding: 1em; } .content_graph_container_even { background: #ff0000; } .content_graph_container_odd { background: #00ff00; } .content_info { width: 20em; float: left; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="content"> <div class="content_container"> <p class="content_header_even">Header</p> <div class="content_graph_container content_graph_container_even"> <div class="content_info"> <p>This is column a. I thought that by enclosing it in the div, the background would be applied to the entire text. What am I doing incorrectly? I am a new user to the board and apparently cannot make posts containing URL's. Examples illustrating my issues described below are at ...lilinks.com /gp/css_prob/kickboxing.html I want to get the vertical scrolling images to consistently display from the top of the page and terminate at the top of the black footer. Similar image scrollers will appear on other pages that will be of varying depth (follow the 'Brazilian Jiu Jitsu' link for an example) Right now I have one 'container' that would be used for all the pages. I could create separate 'containers' for each scroller and set the height in pixels, but of course I cannot control browser settings, OS, etc. So my basic question is how can I contain the 'container' to 100% of the main content area without exceeding it. I want it to look like this: /gp/css_prob/kb.jpg The style sheet is he /gp/css_prob/css/test.css Thank you in advance for your assistance. |
