CSS - Css Slide Right Panel Under Left Sidebar
If you have a second.....
Doing a design for my brother and I have this idea that seems so simple but I can't figure it out. I attached a image that explains it better than I could in an a post. Here is the site: anthemcompanies.com/index2.html Here is the image to explain it (can't insert an image so it is a link) anthemcompanies.com/screen.png I would like to use just CSS to accomplish it but I have no idea how. I have searched everywhere online. I have tried adapting some jquery scripts and some js stuff but nothing has worked for me. Advice, links, completely explained solution, or I have no idea, would be most appreciated. Similar TutorialsHello, I have two columns, one is on the left and another in the middle (center). Left column is where I want it to be, central column is also aligned properly, however, it is below left column. I want it to be on the same level as left. See here see how it got below ? It is XHTML validated and CSS is fine too (some background color warnings). Plz help me to make central column go up. Thanks. I've been unable to replicate this issue in IE, but it's plaguing all other "free" browsers I use (Firefox, Galeon, etc.). Take a look at http://www.skudd.com/blog/view/1370 for example. The bar on the left is floated left, as are the label elements in my comment form. In the li of each form item, I have a br with the clear property set to "left". What I'm trying to accomplish is I want to clear the previous label, so as to prevent the "stair step" effect. Why would "clear: left;" in this case cause the element to clear everything that has been floated left? What should I try in place of it? OK, so I have this nice clean form that I wanted to style up like the table-forms of old. I did it by floating the labels and form elements left, then clearing the labels left so they use their own lines. This works beautifully in Firefox and Safari, but IE (Win, at least) seems to think everything not cleared left should go on the same line! Is this a known IE bug/discrepancy? If so, is there a way to combat it without introducing meaningless elements to the markup (such as encasing each label/element pair in a div)? Here's some example HTML: html4strict Code: Original - html4strict Code <?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" lang="en" xml:lang="en"> <head> <title>Test</title> <style type="text/css"> @import url("style.css"); </style> </head> <body> <form name="form" action="test.php" method="post"> <label for="name">Name:</label> <input type="text" name="name" /> <label for="thoughts">Your Thoughts:</label> <textarea name="thoughts"></textarea> <label for="fun">Having fun?</label> <input type="checkbox" name="fun" value="yes" /> </form> </body> </html>
And the CSS: css Code: Original - css Code label { display: block; float: left; clear: left; width: 8em; margin-right: .5em; text-align: right; } input, textarea { display: block; float: left; }
I always seem to run into this problem and somehow get it fixed but this time I am stuck. I have a main wrapper and 2 footers that line up together and are all floated to the left. I'm trying to put in a column to their right that runs vertical called "right", to be spaced out about 110 px from the top of the page so it sits vertically below the banner and the navs. I tried giving it a left margin to clear the floated DIV's but to no avail. You can see the page he http://yourthreshold.com/playground/ It seems to clear in Firefox but not in IE .. The main CSS: Code: * { margin: 0; padding: 0; } body { margin:0; padding:0; background-color:#e5e5e5; } #wrapper { width: 640px; height: 720px; margin-left:0; margin-top:0; border: 2px solid gray; border-bottom: 0px solid gray; background-image:url(../images/banner.jpg); background-repeat:no-repeat; background-color:#c0c0c0; float:left; } #navigation { width: 640px; height: 22px; background-color:#c9c9c9; margin-top: 88px; } #insidewrapper { height:auto; width:99%; margin: 6px 1px 4px 1px; } /* Begin Left Side Info Boxes */ #sidebar { width:150px; height:600px; margin-left:2px; float:left; border:1px solid #666666; border-bottom:0px; font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:9px; color:#666666; background-color:#ffffff; } .infobox { height:123px; font:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:9px; padding:3px; border-top:0px; border-left:0px; border-right:0px; } .infopic { margin-top:9px; } .infobutton { height:20px; border-bottom:1px solid #666666; padding-left:3px; } /* Begin Main Content */ #maincontent { width:465px; height:593px; margin-left:158px; border:1px solid; border-color:#666666; font:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; color:#333333; padding:3px; background-image:url(../images/background_trans2.gif); background-repeat:no-repeat; background-position:center; background-color:#ffffff; } /* Main Content for pages with textual content */ #content { width:97%; height:auto; padding:5px; } /* Main Content for pages with products */ #productWrapper { height:auto; width:100%; margin-top:10px; } #productLeft { height:auto; width:115px; float:left; } #productMiddle { height:auto; width:200px; margin-left:1px; float:left; } #productRight { height:auto; width:auto; } /* Begin Footer */ #footerlinks, #footer { width:640px; height:auto; text-align:center; float:left; } #footerlinks { border-right: 2px solid gray; border-bottom: 1px solid gray; border-left: 2px solid gray; background-color:#c0c0c0; font:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:9px; letter-spacing:1px; color:#555555; padding-bottom:4px; } #footer { margin-left:0; margin-top:0; margin-bottom:15px; padding-top:8px; border-top: 0px; border-right: 2px solid gray; border-bottom: 2px solid gray; border-left: 2px solid gray; font:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:9px; color:#555555; background-color:#a9a9a9; } /* Begin Rightside Column */ #right { border: 1px solid orange; width:195px; margin-left:650px; padding-top:111px; } Hi, I have this page: Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"> <title>New Page 1</title> <style type="text/css"> * { padding: 0; margin: 0; } p {padding: 0; margin: 0; } html {padding:0; margin:0;} .leftDiv { height: 100px; width: 30px; background-color: teal; float: left; } .mainDiv { padding: 5px 0 10px 0px; width: 200px; height: 20px; background-color: blue; } .mainPara { padding-left: 5px; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="contentDiv" style="width: 700px; height: 700px;"> <div class="leftDiv"> </div> <div class="mainDiv"> <p class="mainPara"> First Para </p> </div> <div class="mainDiv"> <p class="mainPara"> Second Para </p> </div> </div> </body> </html> And have two questions. First, why the gap between the left div and mainDiv in IE? I thought 3px bug was only for block elements with no dimensions? Second, why does padding left not take effect in FF untill I have overcome the width of the float? Even padding-left in the para does not take effect, which should be based off of its parent. Any help is appriciated, CJB Hello! I hope someone can help me! Im trying to adapt a bigcartel css style sheet to make it a 4 row product column rather than 3. I just cant seem to get it correct when playing with the wrap, content and main content. The width seems to jump only from 3 to about 8! Im not actually hosting the theme myself to edit but just simply copied and pasted the css from a link provided straight into the basic design section in big cartel. It seems to be doing the trick but i cant get the spacing perfect to make it 4 columns wide!? Does anyone know if its because i need to actually host the template and images on my own server to be able to get it perfect? Any help to perfect this would be very much appreciated! Thanks so much in advance, Weesy Hi im new to using css and iv come across a problem. Im trying to create a css tab panel and I came across a site which had a template ready to use! Iv modified the css and html slightly to suit the style of the site im designing, however the css tab panel renders incorrectly in IE Here is what iv managed to create: http://starrbuckk.googlepages.com/tab.html http://starrbuckk.googlepages.com/tabs.css Now I have no idea how to fix the problem for IE! As you can see its the 1 pixel just below the introduction tab. The problem is that the bottom border for the tab is white and it extends all the way to the edge. Im wondering if there is there anyway to get the left border to 'override' the bottom border so that it show up ontop on the bottom border? Thanks! Hi All. I am just trying to figure out how to make the bottom border of the active tab disappear so it looks like the active tab is part of the active panel. For example: http://wiki.modxcms.com/images/a/aa/Tabs3.png THE CSS Code: <style> #tabs { padding: 10px; } #tabs #nav { margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 8px; } #tabs ul { list-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; } #tabs #nav ul li { display: inline; padding: 3px 7px; cursor: default; background-color: #eeeeee; border: 1px solid #cccccc; border-bottom: none; margin-right: 2px; } #tabs #nav ul li.active { border: 1px solid #000066; border-bottom: 1px solid white; background-color: #ffffff; } #tabs #nav ul li:hover { background-color: #ffffff; } #tabs #data { margin-top: 3px; } #tabs #data div { display: none; border: 1px solid #000066; padding: 10px; } #tabs #data div.active { display: block; } </style> THE javascript: Code: <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> function navAllInactive() { oNav = document.getElementById('nav'); oLis = oNav.getElementsByTagName('LI'); for (i = 0; i < oLis.length; i++) { oLis[i].className = ''; } } function hideAllData() { oData = document.getElementById('data'); oDivs = oData.getElementsByTagName('DIV'); for (i = 0; i < oDivs.length; i++) { oDivs[i].style.display = 'none'; } } function doShow(o, pageId) { hideAllData(); navAllInactive(); o.className = 'active'; oData = document.getElementById(pageId); oData.style.display = 'block'; return false; } </script> THE HTML: Code: <div id="tabs"> <div id="nav"> <ul> <li onclick="javascript:doShow(this, 'relevance');" class="active">Relevance</li> <li onclick="javascript:doShow(this, 'added');">Date Added</li> <li onclick="javascript:doShow(this, 'recorded');">Date Recorded</li> <li onclick="javascript:doShow(this, 'rating');">Rating</li> </ul> </div> <div id="data"> <div id="relevance" class="active">Relevance</div> <div id="added">Date Added</div> <div id="recorded">Date Recorded</div> <div id="rating">Rating</div> </div> </div> This topic may have been covered before, but I have searched and can't find anything. I think it is a unique topic. My boyfriend and I have a php site, http://biggt.mybesthost.com, we are having trouble that only shows up in the administrator part. For example, when a topics post is made, the font is different like the comment.link _DATESTRING The chatters is different. Any help to solve this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Hey Everyone! I'm having issues with a custom sliding panel showing correctly in IE. It works EXACTLY as I'd like in Firefox, but breaks in Internet Explorer. I tried different positioning items, and tweaking everything I could think of, but it would appear that I'm stumped. knockoutsadvertising[dot]com/gaptest/ In the right hand sidebar, clicking 'Learn More' will open the panel. There's a link within the panel to close it again. Any help on how to get this thing positioned correctly in IE would be awesome. Brad Ive got a couple navigation blocks on the left hand side of the page, now when i use: <form> <div> A couple menu links go here </div> </form> then in Mozilla no gap is displayed, yet in IE a gap at the top and bottom appear outside the div tags, as it is written in the code. if i place the form tags within the div tags then the gap is at the top and bottom of the menu links, (for IE). Yet for Mozilla only a gap appears below the links when the form tags are within the div tags. Is there any way to get rid of these gaps? you can check the site he http://wiganyac.hellrazer.net/ I have three questions. 1. I saw some site which cut if there is a wide picture on side bars, like it just show the part which is on the sidebar box if its wider it cuts the extra part like this site if you see the first picture on the side bar its bigger but it cuts the extra part (-http://dot21.blogspot.com/-) , i want to know how to do it. 2. When some people add backgrounds they write background-repeat:no-repeat whats the function of that code??? and what can i write instead of no-repeat?? 3. whats the function of this code (background-position:bottom left) ??? If you couldnt answer some i hope you answer the ones you know. I am working on a site in CSS (first time! Yay!) I am having one problem: there is a sidebar, and I have used spacer images to make the coloring go to the very bottom of the page (the links stop above that). HOWEVER: this is for my screen size, and I am worried that when people view it with a different screen/window size, they will have scroll bars, even though there is no content at the bottom. Is there any attribute that will make it just go right to the bottom? Thanx. I'm trying to have a sidebar to the right of my page content that extends the entire height of the container it is in. Code: .sidebar { padding: 0px; margin: 0px; width: 150px; height: 100%; color: #999999; background: #ffffff; float: right; border-top: none; border-left: 1px solid #cccccc; border-bottom: none; border-right: none; } This is the code I am currently using, but it is only as tall as the contents of the div. I need the border on the left to extend the length of the container it is in. Any ideas? Thanks, Scott i have created a new model for a 3 column layout, (left sidebar, main content, right sidebar) i used yui 3.0 index.php page as an example to float the main column right. this is designed to put the main column to static so that it is liquid, with a min width. im not working with a liquid layout however, so some adjustments are needing to be made. my site is 950 pixels wide. my sidebars are about 175 pixels each, when used. i have 2 classes that i append to the main column style depending on wether a left sidebar will be used or not. so when i set the #mainColumn for class .marginForLeftNav then it will accomodate for the left nav bar to pop up into place. if no left sidebar, then i use #mainColumn . marginForNoLeftNav class. The problem i am having is trying to accomodate the right sidebar, which will always be used. my requirements a 1) that the side bar html code falls below the main column code on the html page. so essentially i need to leave room in teh mainColumn for these columns to pop up into place. 2) that the styles used to float the left sidebar, and the main column are left in tact if possible. heres some code Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Untitled Document</title> <style type="text/css"> <!-- #wrapper{ /* Wraps everything. Glues header, centralContainer, and footer together */ margin: auto; width: 950px; text-align: left; } #header { margin: 0; position: relative; background-color: #666; } #centralContainer { /* Glues left and right columns, and main area together */ zoom: 1; } #mainColumnWrapper { margin-left: -195px; overflow: hidden; float: right; } #mainColumn { margin-left: 195px; background-color: #999; position: relative; width: 560px; } #mainColumn .marginForLeftNav { } #mainColumn .marginForNoLeftNav { left: 0px; width: 755px; margin-right: 195px; } #leftColumn { float: left; width: 175px; position: relative; margin: 0; padding: 0; background-color: #CCC; } #rightColumn { width: 175px; margin-left: 775px; background-color: #CCC; position: relative; } #footer { color: #666666; font-size: 80%; border-top: 1px solid #333333; clear: both; padding-top: 10px; background-color: #FFF; } body { background-color: #333; } --> </style> </head> <body> <div id="wrapper"> <div id="header">header</div><!-- end header --> <div id="centralContainer"> <div id="mainColumnWrapper"> <div class="marginForLeftNav" id="mainColumn" > <p>main column, with class narginForLeftNav</p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p>test</p> </div><!--end <div id="mainColumn" class="marginForLeftNav"> --> </div><!--end <div id="mainColumnWrapper"> --> <div id="leftColumn">left column area</div> <div id="rightColumn">right column area</div><!-- end rightColumn div --> </div><!-- end centralContainer --> <div id="footer">footer</div><!-- end footer --> </div><!-- end wrapper --> </body> </html> ive adjsuted the background colors to help see what is going on this is as close as i have gotten it so far. NOTICE, how the main column overflows behind the right sidebar, which makes the content in the right sidebar begin AFTER the bottom of the main column. this is obviously the main problem. I need the main column to obey the right sidebar, depending on wether theres a left sidebar or not. Hello, this is my first time posting here. I am having a problem with a CSS sidebar. You can view the page at this URL: http://approg.msu.edu/david/ccsac/index2.htm. For the life of me, I cannot get the sidebar to automatically extend to the length of the page. Obviously, it's not much of an issue at the URL I listed, but it makes a bigger difference when there is a lot of content on the page. I'm sure the solution is simple, I just need to be pointed in the right direction. Thanks. Here's the main site: http: // anomalyrecords . net / index . html Here's the sto http: // anomalyrecords . net / catalog I am using a Zencart embedded template to wrap the main site design around Zencart.. This is working perfectly with a small remaining issue.. I am trying to synchronize the content placement of the sidebar items between Zen Cart and the rest of the site pages.. There is an ever so slight "shift" of the sidebar elements when you toggle bewteen the site pages and the store.. I've done a lot of tweaking and I'm fairly close, but I am at a COMPLETE loss how to put this to bed once and for all. I am hoping one of the CSS gurus here will see what I am clearly missing and guide me back to the light.. Hello everyone. I am working in wordpress trying to make a web site. I am pretty new to wordpress and i have basic CSS and HTML knowledge so i need some help with this. The website: Code: http://sitesuperhostdemo.com/m2/ 1. The #sidebar-1-wrap. The problem i am having is the sidebar. As you can see on the page the sidebar (#sidebar-1-wrap) is positioned under the content but i would want it to stand beside the content (#home-content). 2.The #content-sidebar-wrap. I didnt add this container it is built into wordpress but the problem is that anything i add in wordpress -> pages -> Home page is for some reason placed inside the #content-sidebar-wrap but i have no idea why. The #content-sidebar-wrap is streching my page down because it contains the sidebar but starts at the top of the default wordpress content and i am clueless as to how i can change it so it doesent include all the content i place on the page. I would like it to only contain #sidebar-1-wrap and if i am correct i assume i can then place the sidebar next to the content and stop the div from extending my page. 3. The sidebar position. I can for example set the following code to the #sidebar-1-wrap: Code: .home_page #sidebar-1-wrap { position: relative; top: -615px; left: 40px; } but there must be a better way. Also doing this doesent change the #content-sidebar-wrap. It still extends the page down as if the sidebar is still under the content. This would maybe work if i knew how to change the content so it isnt inside #content-sidebar-wrap but i see no way of doing it. Someone help please before i blow my brains out. If anyone needs clarification on anything lmk and ill clarify. Hi all, At http://www.bartlett-family.net/chrisbartlett/blog2/ I have recently changed the entire layout and replaced it all with new images, BG, etc. In IE... On the right, the sidebar and BLOG searchform are all a little too far to the right. I've been playing with it all for a while, but can't seem to move it to the left. I basically just need to shift the entire righthand contents about 10 or 20 px to the left, but I need to avoid that also changing the righthanded content on all the other pages. Actually, in FF it is correct, except that the BLOG searchform bar needs to com over about 10-20px to the left. Other than that, it's perfect. I need to make IE look like that! CSS file is at http://www.bartlett-family.net/chrisbartlett/main.css I'd appreciate any help. Thank you! Chris I'm a bit of a CSS newbie but I try. How do you get the sidebars' height to synchronize with the height of your content? I tried height=100% but it doesn't seem to work. If I put a lot of text in my content, it stretches down but the sidebars remain the same height, making the layout looking ugly. I don't want to have to press enter in my sidebars to match the content's height all the time! Here's my code: <style type="text/css"> #container { width: 100%; border: 1px solid gray; margin: 0px auto; } #banner { padding: 0px; background-color: #CDC8F1; } #content { padding: 5px; background-color: #FFFFFF; } #sidebar-a { float: left; margin: 0; padding: 0px; background-color: rgb(235, 235, 235); height: 100%; } #sidebar-b { float: right; margin: 0; padding: 0px; background-color: rgb(235, 235, 235); height: 100%; } #footer { clear: both; padding: 5px; background-color: rgb(213, 219, 225); } body { margin-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; } </style> |
