CSS - Design Breaks In Ie7 And Links Don't Work In Firefox
Hi. I am thinking my two problems are related!
Here are my two problems: My top nav bar links don't work in Firefox and the design breaks in IE7. Any help would be much appreciated! I have validated it, and I know the slider and video don't validate, but I still have these problems even when I take those out. Thanks so much for any help you can provide! christthesavior.org Thank you!!! Similar TutorialsHi For some reason my links won't align centrally on a mac or netscape. Here's the classes in a style sheet I'm linking to. It works on a PC though. I want the links to only become underlined when you roll over. The problem is the links are long sentences and in a thin table so they go over on to two lines. And when this happens, the second line is not aligned centrally with the first. It's slightly scew. .copy { font-family: "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 13px; color: #000000; text-align: center; padding-right: 20px; padding-left: 20px; text-decoration: none} a.copy:hover { font-family: "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 13px; color: #000000; padding-right: 20px; padding-left: 20px; text-decoration: underline; text-align: center;} I have a problem separating css for different links throughout my site. For example, my navigation tab links and links inside the text have the same design. I just started learning css so I would appreciate any help. Thanks I have been pulling my hair out on this one because for the life of me I cannot make it work. Here is my page: www.nova-dataonline.com Notice that in IE, the "Featured Products" section displays nicely and when you mouseover "Cisco Systems" the filler text displays well within the grey box. The entire "Featured Products" section apart from the manufacturer logos, is one image and the mouseover text is padded to appear correctly within the grey box which is part of the image. Now notice in firefox that the entire layout breaks. The div displays much larger than I intended and the padded text does not display correctly. I have found that if I remove the padding from the div containing the background image, the div displays fine, but this leaves me without a way to style the content of the div in the correct place. So it appears that firefox is expanding the div based on the padding here is the relevant markup: PHP Code: <div class="featured" id="feat_1" onmouseover="toggleDiv('feat_1',1)" onmouseout="toggleDiv('feat_1',0)"> Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Duis ligula lorem, consequat eget, tristique nec, auctor quis, purus. Vivamus ut sem. Fusce aliquam nunc vitae purus. Aenean viverra malesuada libero. Mauris laoreet posuere odio. Nam ipsum ligula, ullamcorper eu, fringilla at, lacinia ut, augue. Nullam nunc. </div> and css: Code: .featured{ visibility:visible; width:410px; height:350px; position:absolute; top:250px; left:340px; border:1px solid #999999; border-left:none; background-repeat:no-repeat; background-position:center; background-image:url(images/message/feat.jpg); font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:10px; font-style:normal; padding:102px 27px 29px 29px; } #feat_1{visibility:hidden;} and javascript (if it is even relevant to the problem): PHP Code: <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> <!-- function toggleDiv(id,flag) { if (flag == "1") { if (document.layers) document.layers[''+id+''].visibility = "show" else if (document.all) document.all[''+id+''].style.visibility = "visible" else if (document.getElementById) document.getElementById(''+id+'').style.visibility = "visible" } if (flag == "0") { if (document.layers) document.layers[''+id+''].visibility = "hide" else if (document.all) document.all[''+id+''].style.visibility = "hidden" else if (document.getElementById) document.getElementById(''+id+'').style.visibility = "hidden" } } --> </script> any idea? Can anyone fix this problem? The site looks weird in Firefox but when you refresh the browser, it looks okay. why is this http://www.spunlogic.net/Gmaac/index.htm It's totally messed up on Mac IE, but I gave up trying to fix that problem Hello everyone. I have been working on a redesign of my current website for a while. Early on, I realized that the design was flawed for I.E. (I use Firefox on a regular basis for testing). I went ahead and just finished the design anyway, using Firefox to test. Now that it's done, I'm hoping that there's some stupid error in my CSS that's causing the problems, and hoping that someone can find the problem. If it's a big problem and alot of work to fix, I'm willing to pay someone to help me correct the issue. The main problem is my navigation bar at the top, which consists of drop-down menus. There's also a problem with how the background lines up. If you want to see what I'm talking about, go look at the site both in Firefox and I.E. The URL is: http://www.favillephoto.com/new website/index.html I have 2 different css files. One for my index page, because it is designed differently and has a sidebar. And then a second one for the rest of my pages on the site. I'll attach the CSS for both, in case there's an issue there. Thanks in advance for your help. This is the css file for my index page: Code: body { padding: 0; background: #ffffff url('images/img01.jpg'); font-family: "Trebuchet MS", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; color: #333333; And as I was preparing to upload it and test it (looked/worked great in NVU), I found that half of my links do not work. And ... I am a new user, so I can't post links. Gah. To be more clear, I have a menu container and a "whiteboard" container I write most of my content in. All the links in the menu container work perfectly. However, in the whiteboard, it's hit and miss. Strip out the css, and they all work, so it is the css. Try as I might, I can't figure what the problem is. Part of My CSS follows: Code: #menutop { position: absolute; width: 247px; height: 74px; background: url("menutop.gif") top left; background-repeat: no-repeat; top: 269px; left: 46px; } div#menucontainer { position: absolute; width: 200px; height:1080; background: url("menucontainer.gif"); background-repeat: repeat-y; padding-left: 15px; padding-right: 50px; top: 340px; left: 46px; } #menubottom { position: absolute; width: 247px; height:26; background: url("menubottom.gif"); background-repeat: no-repeat; top: 1420px; left: 46px; } #contact { padding-left: 20px; } div#whiteboard { position: absolute; width: 530; background-color: white; left: 310px; top: 300px; padding-bottom: 20px; border-style: dashed; border-color: #4080CA; z-index=100; } p { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; padding-left: 20px; padding-right: 20px; align: left; color: #000000; } h1, h2, h3 { font-family:'Century Gothic',Futura,'URW Gothic L',sans-serif; color: #130139; padding-left: 20px; padding-right: 20px; align: center; z-index=100; } li { padding-bottom: 10px; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; width: 450px; } A:link { background: #E8E8E8; font-variant: small-caps; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-color: #061C5E; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; } On my page, it's basically: <div id="whiteboard"> <p><a href="http://www.resafantasyarts.com/wanderingstar/WS1.zip">BOOK ONE</a> </p></div> Any help would be greatly appreciated! edit: the sites @ www.tomaustin.dsl.pipex.com/webdev Ive been doing some googling and cant find out how it works how do i apply attributes like a:link, a: hover to an image I had some like Code: image a:hover, a:link, a:active, a:visited { border: etc.. } this does not work..it comes up with the horrid blue and purple backgrounds how do i do it? tom: ) In the html http://www.inspiration-company.nl/test40.html I have placed 4 links. In IE there is a normal small vertical distance between the lines of these links. In Firefox however there is more distance between the lines. Is there a way to get the distance in FireFox the same as in IE? Hello all. I have the following code: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <title>My Site</title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" /> <style type="text/css"> #base { border-top: 1px solid #ffffff; border-bottom: 1px solid #ffffff; background: #c0c0c0; } /* end #base */ #main_block { margin: auto; text-align: left; width: 955px; } /* end #main_block */ #main_content, #main_content_2c, #main_content_3c { background: #ffffff; border-left: 1px solid #575757; border-right: 1px solid #575757; } #top_main_content { padding-top: 1em; } #top_main_content ul { float: left; padding: 0; margin: 0; list-style-type: none; border-top: 1px solid #f1f1f1; } /* end #top_main_content ul */ #top_main_content ul li { text-align: right; border-bottom: 1px solid #f1f1f1; } /* end #top_main_content ul li */ #top_main_content ul li a { line-height: 26px; display: block; color: #686868; width: 266px; } /* end #top_main_content ul li a */ .indent { margin-right: 1.5em; } #top_main_content #rotating { z-index: 0; float: right; width: 687px; height: 242px; border-bottom: 1px solid #f1f1f1; border-top: 1px solid #f1f1f1; } /* end #top_main_content img */ #top_main_content #rotating p, #top_main_content #rotating h1 { margin: 2em 0 0 2em; } #sidemenu12, #sidemenu11, #sidemenu13, #sidemenu14, #sidemenu15, #sidemenu16, #sidemenu17, #sidemenu18, #sidemenu22 { width: 687px; height: 242px; font-weight: bold; overflow: hidden; position: absolute; visibility: visible; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="base"> <div id="main_block"> <div id="main_content"> <div id="top_main_content"> <ul> <li><a id="sidemenu11_link" href="#"><span class="indent">Link 1</span></a></li> <li><a id="sidemenu22_link" href="#"><span class="indent">Link 2</span></a></li> <li><a id="sidemenu12_link" href="#"><span class="indent">Link 3</span></a></li> <li><a id="sidemenu13_link" href="#"><span class="indent">Link 4</span></a></li> <li><a id="sidemenu14_link" href="#"><span class="indent">Link 5</span></a></li> <li><a id="sidemenu15_link" href="#"><span class="indent">Link 6</span></a></li> <li><a id="sidemenu16_link" href="#"><span class="indent">Link 7</span></a></li> <li><a id="sidemenu18_link" href="#"><span class="indent">Link 8</span></a></li> <li><a id="sidemenu17_link" href="#"><span class="indent">Link 9</span></a></li> </ul> <div id="rotating"> <div id="default_div"><p>Default</p></div> <div id="sidemenu11"><p>Section 1</p></div> <div id="sidemenu12"><p>Section 2</p></div> <div id="sidemenu13"><p>Section 3</p></div> <div id="sidemenu14"><p>Section 4</p></div> <div id="sidemenu15"><p>Section 5</p></div> <div id="sidemenu16"><p>Section 6</p></div> <div id="sidemenu17"> <p>Section 7 - A<br /> <a href="#">Link 1</a></p> <p><a href="#">Link 2</a></p> <p>Section 7 - B<br /> <a href="#">Link 1</a><br /> <a href="#">Link 2</a><br /> <a href="#">Link 3</a></p> </div> <div id="sidemenu18"><p>Section 8</p></div> <div id="sidemenu22"><p>Section 9</p></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </body> </html> Which if you look at it in a browser looks rather messy but I have javascript that hides and shows things. But my question is why aren't the links clickable in Firefox. They are in IE7, IE6, and Opera but not Firefox or Safari. I know that if I remove position: absolute from the last set of styles that it will work but then everything isn't stacked on top of each other. on this page http://tampabay-online.org/cetr/artists.php I am getting lines under the images and text that are links (I do not want the line under the images). This happens in Firefox. It displays how I want it to in IE and Opera. I usually design my sites for Firefox but I really trust Opera's compliance. my css includes : Code: a img { border: none; } Any ideas where the lines are coming from? Thanks! Hey, Just making a site for a friend and I have run into a block with the Hover tag. It works fine in IE but for some reason other browsers aren't working properly... Any ideas? I have put my source underneath, sorry its squashed up. I have also loaded the site to the domain but won't put the link - not sure if I'm allowed. Oh, to say I'm gutted is under-rated, I thought I had mastered what is CSS design for one of my sites, that was until I decided to test it at work on FireFox, Netscape and Mozilla. For a start the content isn't in the center of the page, and some of the div's seem to be constrained into the right hand column, not sure why. The page looks perfect in IE. But messed up in the others, I am kicking myself I have left it so late to check. If any very nice person/people can help me sort this out I would be sooo happy, especially if I can understand why it is so messed up. I'm not really that technical, I'm a graphic designer so if you can help, keep it fairly simple please. The link is: http://www.gladiatorszone.co.uk/main_new1.shtml I think it might be a position element wrong or a float? I added a new template to my vbulletin forums. Unfortunately, the nav bar (uses css) is not displaying the proper anchor text color in IE6 (should be white). url: forums*jwsuretybonds*com Here is the header code: Code: <STYLE TYPE="text/css"> <!-- .nav_box { border-top:solid 1px #677281; border-right:solid 1px #677281; height: 24px; vertical-align: middle; text-align: left; background-color: #214E77; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight: bold; color: #000000; padding-left: 5px; } .nav_box_over { border-top:solid 1px #677281; border-right:solid 1px #677281; height: 24px; vertical-align: middle; text-align: left; background-image:url('images/bg_roll.jpg'); font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight: bold; color: #000000; padding-left: 5px; cursor: hand; } .nav_box A{font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; text-decoration:none; color:#ffffff;} .nav_box_over A{font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; text-decoration:none; color:#606060; } //--> </STYLE> <table width="741" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" style="border-top:solid 1px #F1F2F2; border-left:solid 1px #F1F2F2; border-right:solid 1px #F1F2F2"> <tr> <td><img src="http://www.jwsuretybonds.com/images/jw_logo2.jpg" alt="JW Surety Bonds - Logo" width="281" height="167" /><img src="http://www.jwsuretybonds.com/images/bannertop.jpg" alt="Bond"width="458" height="167" /></td> </tr> </table> <table width="741" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" background="http://www.jwsuretybonds.com/images/bg_pattern.jpg" style="border-right:solid 1px #F1F2F2; border-left:solid 1px #F1F2F2"> <tr> <td width="741" valign="top"> <table width="741" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"> <tr> <td width="185" bgcolor="#F9FFFF" class="nav_box" onclick="javascript:parent.top.location.href='http://www.jwsuretybonds.com/index.htm'" onmouseover="this.className='nav_box_over';" onmouseout="this.className='nav_box';"> <center><a href='http://www.jwsuretybonds.com/'>Home - JW Surety Bond</a></center> </td> <td width="184" bgcolor="#F9FFFF" class="nav_box" onclick="javascript:parent.top.location.href='http://www.jwsuretybonds.com/apps.htm'" onmouseover="this.className='nav_box_over';" onmouseout="this.className='nav_box';"> <center><a href='http://www.jwsuretybonds.com/apps.htm'>APPLICATIONS</a></center> </td> <td width="185" bgcolor="#F9FFFF" class="nav_box" onclick="javascript:parent.top.location.href='http://www.jwsuretybonds.com/bond_information.htm'" onmouseover="this.className='nav_box_over';" onmouseout="this.className='nav_box';"> <center><a href='http://www.jwsuretybonds.com/bond_information.htm'>Learn About Bonding</a></center> </td> <td width="185" bgcolor="#F9FFFF" class="nav_box" onclick="javascript:parent.top.location.href='http://www.jwsuretybonds.com/coprof.htm'" onmouseover="this.className='nav_box_over';" onmouseout="this.className='nav_box';"> <center><a href='http://www.jwsuretybonds.com/coprof.htm'>Company Profile</a></center> </td> </tr> </table> </tr> <tr> <td> <table style="float: right;" border="0" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="0" background="http://www.jwsuretybonds.com/images/bg_pattern.jpg"> <tr> <td align="center"> <a href="https://srv0.velaro.com/visitor/requestchat.aspx?siteid=1151&showwhen=inqueue&secure=yes" target="VelaroChat" onClick="this.newWindow = window.open('https://srv0.velaro.com/visitor/requestchat.aspx?siteid=1151&showwhen=inqueue&secure=yes', 'VelaroChat', 'toolbar=no,location=no,directories=no,menubar=no,status=no,scrollbars=no,resizable=yes, replace=no') ; this.newWindow.focus();this.newWindow.opener=window;return false;"><img alt="Velaro Live Help" src="https://srv0.velaro.com/visitor/check.aspx?siteid=1151&showwhen=inqueue" border="0"></a> </td> </tr> </table> <BR> <H1 style="margin-left: 20px; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px; color:#103465;">Surety Bond Forums</h1> Anyone have any ideas? Hi, link to wesbite why doesn't the drop down menu, that works in IE6 not work in Firefox 0.8? It is pure CSS, no Javascript. OK, I know it doesn't validate and don't care too much about that. I know putting tables inside an anchor tag is frowned on but hey, it works and I didn't think it up. I thought IE was the worst when it came to CSS compliance? Any ideas how I can fix it? Thanks, John Hi, I'm completely new to this but I've been trying to implement CSS tabs on my webpage in a computer science class. They work correctly in IE (the browser at my school that I've been testing on) but not in Firefox (there is a space between the bottom of the tab and the line). Below is the CSS, what do I need to change to make it compatible with both browsers? Thanks for the help. body { font: 100% "Century Gothic", verdana, arial, sans-serif; background-color: #fff; margin: 50px; } ul#tabnav { font: bold 11px "Century Gothic", verdana, arial, sans-serif; list-style-type: none; padding-bottom: 26px; border-bottom: 1px solid #03A; margin: 0; } ul#tabnav li { float: left; height: 21px; background-color: #38E; margin: 2px 2px 0 2px; border: 1px solid #03A; } body#tab1 li.tab1, body#tab2 li.tab2, body#tab3 li.tab3, body#tab4 li.tab4 { border-bottom: 1px solid #fff; background-color: #fff; } body#tab1 li.tab1 a, body#tab2 li.tab2 a, body#tab3 li.tab3 a, body#tab4 li.tab4 a { color: #000; } #tabnav a { float: left; display: block; color: #000; text-decoration: none; padding: 4px; } #tabnav a:hover { background: #fff; } the url is: http:// jhlmc.com/JHLMC/FreshDemoFiles/CoverTToLayers_JHLMCArt.html In IE8 beta it works perfectly. In firefox the entire bottom section (the part under the slide show) is messed up. In Opera there's a gap under the play controls. If I close the gap, it messes up IE. Getting this slide show to work was quite the task, but I'm close to having it work on the big three! Should I just un-nest everything? |
