CSS - Dashed Border Shows Black In Ie
On my website (www.tonecollector.com) I use CSS to get a dashed style to my header. The header also has a background image. Without the background image it works ok, but with the background image it doesn't.
The CSS: .headertabel { background-image: url(/img/headerbg.gif); background-color: #FF7B08; font-family: Tahoma, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; color: #FFF6DB; text-decoration: none; border-left: 6px dashed #FF7B08; border-right: 6px dashed #FF7B08; } The Problem: http://www.tonecollector.com/dev/what.gif Whats the solution? Similar TutorialsWhen viewed in IE my form's submit button shows up with a black border around it, and when clicked onto another blank space of the space, it goes to normal colors as applied in this css code. Code: font-family:verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size:12px; background-color: #FFFFFF; color : #000000; border: 1px solid #A5B4BC; What could fix this? Thank you. This problem just started happening, but frustratingly I can't remember what I was changing when it started happening. The problem is that (almost) all the images on the site seem to be "bumped" 1px out of place, with a black border showing on the top and left hand sides of the images. This is not showing up with ALL images, however. I've embedded an image and you can see the effect on the logo, on the graphics in the body text, and on the sub-menu items (with the 'empty' box icons). However the effect does not occur on the menu items with the 'full' box icons. OK, apparently, I CAN'T EMBED AN IMAGE. Or a link to an image. Or a link to the site in question. SO I have no idea how I am actually supposed to get help for this problem. If someone can PSYCHICALLY DEDUCE what the problem might be without being able to view the site or an image of the problem, that'd be ACE! GAAAAH Alright, let's see if we can do this with JUST the CSS & HTML. Here is the CSS: Code: html { margin: 0; padding: 0; min-height: 100%; height: auto; } body { margin: 0; padding: 0; background-color: #FFFFFF; background-image:url('background-index.gif'); font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #666666; min-width: 900px; min-height: 100%; } img { border:0; } a:link { text-decoration: none; color: #0096db; } a:hover { text-decoration: underline; } a:visited { color: #00abc7; text-decoration: none; } #header { width:900px; height:80px; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-color: #0096db; } #logo { float:left; width:140px; margin:0; padding:0; } #head_nav { width:760px; position:relative; float: right; background-color: #ebf9ff; height: 80px; margin:0; padding:0; } #clear_both { clear:both; } #sidenav { float:left; width:100px; padding-left:10px; padding-top:0; margin-top:0; } #content_wrap { float:right; width:760px; background-color: #ebf9ff; background-image:url('content-background.gif'); } #content { float:left; width:500px; } #content h1, h2, h3, ul { padding-top: 15px; padding-left: 15px; } #content p { padding-left: 15px; } #focus_box { width:260px; float: right; margin-top:0; padding-top:0; } #focus_box h1 { padding-top:15px; } #focus_box p, h1, ul { padding-left:15px; } table.blue_highlight { border-bottom-width:1px; border-bottom-style:solid; border-bottom-color:#0096db; margin-left:15px; margin-right:15px; padding-top:15px; padding:0; margin:0; } #menu2 { float: left; width: 200px; } #main { float: right; } p { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 9pt; color: #666666; } ul { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 9pt; color: #666666; } h1 { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: 700; color: #0096db; } h2 { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; color:#666666; font-weight: bold; } a:link { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-decoration: none; color: ; } /*!!!!!!!!!!! This would be a lot easier if I could show you a picture of what was going on. I have the following code which works fine in IE but not in firefox. <table width="100%" border="1" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" bordercolor="#FFFFFF"> <tr><td></td></tr> </table> IE displays just white space as intended, but firefox displays a black border line. I need a white border of 1 pixel around the table. It seems that whenever I create a dashed/dotted, verticle line in CSS and view it in IE6, and scroll, the line gets all blurred and messed up. Does anyone know about this and if there is a way to fix this? I have finished my transparency box backgrounds.. and, thanks to some help here.. have them working in multiple browsers.. Now, I have received a call.. that one person sees "black lines" through the boxes on the transparent boxes on the attractions and info pages.. (user is using IE and 1024x768) -I cannot recreate this problem on any machine.. is there some little strange bug that causes this on certain browsers? http://www.tkwebbiz.com/Gina2 Thanks so much.. *again*.. *Smiles* I want to make a css "div-popup", and when it pops up the whole page behind the popup should be covered in 50% transparent black. I suppose this has been done before, but I failed to google it, I don't know what to search for Any ideas? hi. i created a menubar that has different properties when you hover, visited, etc in css. it's pretty much your standard menubar with different colors you see on the net. it works fine on my pages who's background colors are white, off-white, blue... everythinb BUT BLACK. for some reason, on the black ground, it goes to the standard purple/blue/text-underline schemes. is there a way to get around that? also, in css, do you treat a "mailto" the same as a normal "href"? Hi, I am trying to make a link's text black with a blue underline. Is this possible? Here is my code, which produces black text with a black underline: Code: .link{ text-align:left; color:#000000; font-size:14.5pt; font-family:times new roman, serif; font-weight:normal; text-decoration:underline color:#09328a; } Hi everyone, I am using nivo slider for a website that I'm building. I have created a gradient png for the background of the captions that will go over the slider images. Everything is working perfectly in ie9 and FF, however in ie8 and 7 all I get is a big black block where the gradient should be. The strange thing is that if I set a background color, then the gradient shows through. I have tried to make the background transparent with no luck at all. I have tried to set the background-color to transparent, and made it !important. I've also tried to use filters, nothing seems to work. The URL of the site is http://www.backupstorage.co.za/new/ . If anyone out there can help, I really would be incredibly grateful! Hi. Have created some simple tabs using table cells. Active tab should have bottom-border color equal to page background-color. Non-active tabs should have bottom-border=black. Works fine in IE, but does not work very well in Firefox. If I remove the border-collapse:collapse on the table, then firefox also work... but I would like to be able to keep the 1px border between each table cell. So is there a way to make this work in both IE and Firefox... and hopefully most other browsers... See code below: Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/loose.dtd"> <html> <head> <style type="text/css"> a.menu_top:link {color: #000000; text-decoration: none;} a.menu_top:visited {color: #000000; text-decoration: none;} a.menu_top:hover {color: #000000; text-decoration: none;} a.menu_top:active {color: #000000; text-decoration: none;} td.menu_top_passive { background-color: #777; border-left: 1px #000000 solid; border-right: 1px #000000 solid; border-top: 1px #000000 solid; border-bottom: 1px #000000 solid; text-align: center; cursor:pointer; font-weight: bold; padding: 5px 20px 5px 20px; margin: 0; } td.menu_top_active { background-color: #bbb; border-left: 1px #000000 solid; border-right: 1px #000000 solid; border-top: 1px #000000 solid; border-bottom: 1px #bbb solid; text-align: center; cursor:pointer; font-weight: bold; padding: 5px 20px 5px 20px; margin: 0; } </style> <script language="JavaScript"> function change(id, url) { for (i=1; i<6; i++){ eval("document.getElementById("+i+").className='menu_top_passive'"); } eval("document.getElementById("+id+").className='menu_top_active'"); } </script> </head> <body style="margin:0; padding:0; background-color:#bbb;"> <br><br> <center> 1. So, thought anyone of you would know what I'm missing.. The problem here is that it showed up just fine on the webpage but not in Print Preview or Print-Out for IE. Code: <style type="text/css"> divBlackBox1 { margin: 50px auto; padding: 0px; width: 400px; height: 4px; display: block; /* for IE stupidity (to make height work correctly with the correct pixels)... */ font-size: 1pt; /* for IE stupidity (to make the smaller height work due to default font-size)... */ overflow: hidden; /* Problem is that it doesn't work for print preview or print-out in IE... */ background-color: #000000; } </style> <div class="divBlackBox1"></div> Thanks, FletchSOD I'm a little puzzled by this weird display bug by IE7, this bug doesn't occur in IE6. It had to do with the DIV's CSS's border-style. If you set it to double then you notice some random bugs with it. Some of the time, the border is displayed without a problem. Some of the time, it is displayed with some gaps in the line as if it is not being drawn upon. Some of the other time, it is not displayed at all. I noticed if I switch from one tab to another then back, the border appeared as if nothing had happened. I also noticed that if I open the view source that overlapp the web browser then closed it, the border appeared as if nothing had happened. How do you fix that problem? Thanks... Hi, This used to be my solution: Code: <table border=1 bordercolorlight='#CCCCCC' Bordercolordark='#FFFFFF'> But this only works well on IE - not Mozilla Now I want to use CSS: Code: .results { border: 1px solid #CCCCCC ; } Code: <table class='results'> --------------- The problem is, with CSS, only the TABLE acquires the border property. The cells within it don't. If I specify Code: <td class='results'> for all the cells in the table, this also won't work, because the cell borders overlap each other and some border lines seem thicker than others (because of overlapping). Is there any simple way I can specify the border property for the table - in ONE declaration? I want the table and td borders all to be a simple 1px width ...is that possible in one declaration? Thanks a lot! I would like to set up a table with a different border than the cells inside it. Here's my code: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Untitled Document</title> <style type="text/css"> TABLE {border: 1px solid black; border-collapse: collapse; width: 200px} TD {border: 1px solid #ccc} </style> </head> <body> <table> <tr> <td> </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> </table> </body> </html> That's all hunky dory in (gasp!) IE, but good browsers...they only show the lighter gray color. How do I get the table border to be different? Hi, Here is the page I am having trouble with: http://mccalebconstruction.anchorwave.com/slices/index2.php If you view source, the CSS should be in the file as well. It is very basic because I have stripped out everything else on the page to make it simpler to identify the problem. But I don't know what the problem is! In Firefox it looks fine. In IE there is a line on the left of the content area. The line is caused by the background-image of #content. I don't understand why it's showing up, though, since the images are supposed to be floating left (thus, covering the background image)... but it appears they aren't floating ALL THE WAY to the left, there is a gap. I made sure all the padding and stuff was 0 but that doesn't help. Thanks in advance, ~wz Hey Guys, Im kinda stuck, my site here -beta.thenpcs.com just displays the backround in IE6. The CSS validates so im not sure what im doing wrong :/ Thanks! Hey guys, I'm new to web design, and I've begun putting together a template for the basic aspects of my page. Everything works fine in FireFox but nothing but the background shows up in IE. It's very frustrating because I have a feeling it's something small but I don't know what that thing is. Here is the link to the template I'm working on : thehempdaddy.com/unfinished/newdesign.html Any help pointing me in the right direction will earn you a friend for life. a site im working on .. (apparently I cant post URLs....) it's the normal stuff at teh beginning with porservices.formapixel and the normal web ending stuff at the end. works fine in Firefox. I validated with transitional. In IE7 the background images for the main divs show up but the entire content and header do not. I thought for some reason it had to do with the z-index. So I removed it from the CSS and changed the .gifs to .pngs that are transparent in the center. It still doesnt work. I'm lost. Quote: #bg { position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; background: #fff url('images/bg.png') no-repeat; width: 747px; height: 264px; } #wrapper { position: relative; width: 747px; margin: 0 auto; background: #fff url('images/abg.png') repeat-y; } that is the css relating to the two images that seem to be blocking everything (that's the only thing I can figure is that those two bg images are just sitting on top of everything.) any suggestions? I can provide the entire css file if necessary just didnt want to post all of that here if i didnt need to. thanks in advance. |
